The Way, The Truth, & The ThunderCats!
This week we invite Kris Kilduff to talk about his story and why it’s so hard to be kind. Oh, and of course, there will be fist-bumping and ThunderCats as well.
Brennon's Church Story
In this episode of Broken Chris, Nathan & Brennon drink some coffee, eat some donuts & talk about what led Brennon to leave the Christian faith & his general thoughts on the church as he sees it today.
I’m Going To Gang
How did the word “church” get hijacked?
“Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands, as the prophet says,”
Acts 7:48 ESV
Don’t Be A Dick
So just a bit of context for this episode, before this, we would come prepared with a specific topic and a certain time restriction that we had to shoehorn in. Nathan, Jacob, and I have been meeting in a donut shop every Wednesday morning for months, where we would just talk organically about issues of faith, church trauma, and maple bars. This is just one of those conversations.
The Kids Are Alright?
What is the biblical way to raise kids? I invite my family to the show to talk about children’s church, Sunday school, Awana, and youth group and how the church should always be fun for kids. Is there pressure from a Christian parent to raise the next generation in church? And we talk about swallowing fire!!!
Death and Suicide
It comes for us all and touches every one of us. Death. when someone close to us passes, Is it okay to not be okay? Often we are told to snap out of it or they are in a better place so we should rejoice. When a child's father passes from cancer he is told by many members of the church that now he needed to be saved in order to seem him again which pushed him further away. How do we handle the loss of a child or a loved one, do we blame God? Do people who commit suicide or unsaved babies go to hell? Being on staff I was told that I needed to snap out of it and there is a very real expectation of keeping up a happy appearance. This episode hurts, come and join the conversation.
Pro Life?
In this episode we approach the question of what it looks like to be pro-life. We have to ask ourselves if we as Christians are really and truly pro life or just pro issue. Is it okay to ever murder or take life or do some peoples lives have more value than others?
$$$$MONEY$$$$
How rich is rich? It always seems like it is just above the level that we have. We wrestle with the hard topic of money and why we love to keep it and store it away. Why would Jesus say sell all you have and give it to the poor? How much are we willing to give?
Episode sex
This episode we tackle the big one within Christianity, Homosexuality. We look at the damage this causes in families and relationships but we also talk about sexual repression within the church as a larger whole as well. We are also joined by Jennifer Burrows of a group called wonderfully made.
Hypocrisy in the Church.
This we week we tackle some tough questions about hypocrisy in the Church, but most importantly, our own hypocrisy. We also find out whether or not the Spokane Chiefs GM renewed his contract. Also, Mcrib is back. Theres an important message and call to arms for our Spokane listeners at the end of the cast.
Episode 4: A New Hope/Love Thy Neighbor
In this episode we explore how we went from Love thy Neighbor to Gods hates fags. Why do we hate, and how do we love? Where do we go from right now? Do we mistake Gods will for our own? Content warning: star wars references and junior hockey.
Servitude/Jesus is for losers
This week we tackle the idea of servitude. What it looks like in the midst of Covid, what it used to look like, what we hope we can do with it. Special guest this week, our good friend Dave Wilkinson. He stops by the show to provide some insight, and shares his background in servitude from pastoral roles, to his current journey in to spiritual counseling. I also get excited because the Spokane chiefs are getting ready for a new season. So sit down and hang out with the unconventional evangelicals as we dive in to servitude this week!
Patriotism
This week our invisible elephant is patriotism. We unpack a few different aspects of the idea and search for its scriptural roots. And Bryce complains about junior hockey not starting up.
Intro/Is the Church a building?
we introduce ourselves, and ask the question "Is the church a building?" We discuss the in and outs of acting out our faith outside the walls of the Church.
