Back to Nigeria

The Brothers from the 818 are back with episode 26.  Tonight we had the pleasure of hosting our Nigerian brother and sister, Pius and Ade.  These two Scholars of the Diaspora entertained, enlightened, and educated us on the truth of this West African Nation, the largest grouping of black people in the world.  By the end of the podcast, the Brothers were prepared to get our Nigerian passports (Yes, Nigerian) and be on our way.  Hopefully, you will see it the way we did.  Join us this Thursday for this amazing, engaging conversation.  Only on the Brothers from the 818.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day

The Brothers from the 818 are back with our second annual Father's Day episode. Last year, we were able to speak with a Father, a Wife, and a Daughter as they discussed what Father's Day meant to them. This time, we are speaking with the children. We were blessed with three amazing guests (and two additional surprises) that shared their love for the fathers in their lives. With Father's Day around the corner, this is one that you'll want to share with that special man in your life. Be sure to stay tuned after the credits for our special guests as well as a mid-season wrap-up message from David and Caleb.

Happy Father's Day to all you amazing dads out there. We will return on July 8th. Stay safe, stay tuned, have fun!!

Black History Month

The Brothers from the 818 are back with Season 2, Episode 8. Tonight, in honor of Black History Month, we are speaking with Brother Augustus C. Stone, the one and only. A Contemporary African American Griot, Mr. Stone shared with the Brothers a lesson in Black culture like no other. He connected the dots of popular figures, dates, and events in African American history in a way that we weren’t taught in school. His story is a lesson for all men, but especially Black men in America. You don’t want to miss this episode “for the ages.”

The Brothers are back to share with you Season 2, Episode 5.  We had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Dr. Alan-Michael Graves, a public policy advocate for father's rights.  Dr. Graves took the time to share some insightful words with us regarding his own background, including being raised by a single mother, his pursuit of several graduate degrees, and his expansive work in the field of public policy.  The Brothers have been excited to get Dr. Graves on the podcast and he certainly did not disappoint.  Take a listen to and share your thoughts on the ... To Save/Spend or Not to Save/Spend

To Save/Spend or Not to Save/Spend

The Brothers are back for Episode 32 with the most in-depth public service announcement we've ever done.  Pay attention to how you spend your money.  We discuss the little items such as Hulu, Netflix, etc.; slightly larger items like pay per view fights (DId you see Nate Robinson get knocked out?); and big-ticket items like car and house repair.  What do you spend your money on?  Are you fiscally responsible and accountable?  How important is a good credit rating for you?  Our thoughts and opinions have changed on this topic through the years and in our 99 years of combined financial wisdom, this should be a good listen for you ... or, someone you know.  As the Christmas shopping season is upon us, there is no time like the present to make changes today for a better tomorrow.

The Second, and Final, Presidential Debate

The Brothers from the 818 are back on a THURSDAY night with Episode 27!! Tonight we are discussing the second, and final, Presidential Debate.  After a walk down memory lane regarding the 91331, we jump right into an engaging discussion regarding the performance of both candidates.  Tune in to hear our reaction to President Trump referring to himself as "the least racist person in this room."  Really?  Yes, he said that.  What stood out for you?

Question of the night:  Who is going to determine the outcome of the election?  Undecided voters? Typical non-voters who decide to vote? Or, devout party followers?  When will the victor be determined?  Drop us a comment and let us know.

Parenting, Football and Accountability

Parenting, Football and Accountability

The Brothers from the 818 are back with Episode 23.  Tonight we went off on a deep tangent based off of Caleb's check-in.  Wait until you hear this story.  As a parent, I have definitely been there.  For any of you parents out there, I know you have been there too.  What would you have done if you were in his shoes?  Leave us a comment and let us know.  Football is back and the first two weeks (with no fans in the stands) has been quite interesting.  What are your thoughts on the NFL and Covid-19? Should coaches have to wear masks on the sidelines?  Should they be fined six figures for not wearing a mask?  Are they making too much money if they are unfazed by the fine?  These questions and more are discussed in this episode.  Finally, what does accountability mean to you, and how far does it integrate into your public life? Your private life?  Are they one and the same?  Check out this week's episode for all of that and more.  Stick around to hear about "Caring Cars" and "Crabwalks".  You never know what we are going to bring up.

Fires, Breonna and the C-O-M-P-T-O-N

The Brothers from the 818 are back with some deep conversation on what's happening outside your windows today.  In episode 22, the Brothers discuss the fires that are affecting the west coast and how that impact is spreading across the nation.  We discuss the settlement reached between the family of Breonna Taylor and the city of Louisville and what it truly means to settle.  How do you place a monetary value on a life lost and what factors help you determine a number?  Lastly, we touched on the shooting of the two officers in Compton this weekend.  Our prayers go out to the officers for a speedy recovery.  As well to the city of Compton for peace and civil REST to flow through that city.  Tune in for an engaging discussion as only the Brothers from the 818 can do it.

This is a Public Service Announcement

This is a Public Service Announcement

** This episode was recorded on September 1, 2020.  In the middle of the upload, my laptop crashed and I lost everything (that wasn't backed up).  The tone you will hear in this podcast continued through-out the week as I fought hard to recover this podcast.  The Brothers from the 818 always keep it Raw and Real and this is one that you had to hear for yourself.  We present to you Episode 21. **

WAKE UP BLACK MAN!!  It's hunting season and you are the target.  Tonight the Brothers from the 818 are bringing you a Public Service Announcement that you need to take seriously.  Over the last year, there have been countless murders by so-called authority figures that appear to be on a mission to eradicate the black man.  They have been murdered in broad daylight, shot in the back, shot while sleeping, shot while running away, and shot by vigilante neighbors while jogging.    They've been handcuffed ... and shot.  Asked for identification ... and shot.  Placed in a jail cell ... and found hung.

What can you do to protect yourself?  Life has no guarantees, but tune in to hear the types of things that help you, vs. the types of things that hurt you.  Ask yourself, what do you have to live for?  Is your mission to live to fight the system or to allow your death to tell the story.  The Brothers from the 818 believe that we have lost too many already and the senseless violence against Black Men must stop!!

Feel free to share your thoughts.

Dem Brown Girls - Presented by Brothers from the 818

Welcome back to the Brothers from the 818!  This is episode 19!  Tonight we are excited to be the re-launch platform for Dem Brown Girls!  Two lovely ladies that have been best friends for the better of 13 years who, like the Brothers from the 818, have an opinion on everything and look forward to sharing their presence with you.  Tonight the Brothers swapped seats and offered a "no limits" Q&A opportunity for Dem Brown Girls to inquire and dig deep.  Manhood, Attraction, and the Ultimate Mic Drop moment.  Yes, you have to tune in to hear those responses.  After listening, check out Dem Brown Girls on YouTube for some historical context and then be prepared for their re-launch on September 30th.  Dem Brown Girls, a lifestyle blog and celebration of Brown women everywhere.
