In her career, Susan has performed over 60 thousand oral cancer screenings. Find a CODA accredited program
Understand all requirements and prerequisites
Complete prerequisites (approx 2 years)
Apply to dental hygiene program
Complete 2 year dental hygiene program
Pass NBDHE
Pass WREB or CRDTS or whichever exam is required in your state
Pass law and ethics exam
Apply for licensure

Every state and program is different. It is highly recommended to complete your own research on this topic for a clear understanding of requirements to become a RDH in your area.

Jeannette currently works as a dental liaison for the California Department of Developmental Services. As dental hygienists, there will be times in our career that we encounter grief in our personal lives. Do we know how to cope? How can we continue to provide high quality care while grieving? Am I equipped with tools to help me while grieving? These are all questions we should be asking ourselves as healthcare professionals.

In the episode @emmatalksteeth and I reveal the shocking truth about bacteria and virus transfer. We review the spread of herpes (cold sores), cavities, and periodontal disease. How often do we finding ourselves at events where family and friends want to kiss the baby and we find ourselves wanting to yell "NO! PLEASE DON'T KISS THE BABY!" but we don't know how to say it without being weird or awkward. Emma shares great tips for how to go about telling family and friends "No Kissing The Baby".
In addition to the spread of herpes, we cover the spread of bacteria that causes cavities and periodontal disease through saliva. Emma and I share the importance of a thorough oral hygiene routine to keep your mouth happy and healthy after coming in contact with these bacterias.
As healthcare providers, we review herpetic whitlow, the importance of keeping the patient and provider safe, and the protocol of treating a patient with a cold sore and how to discuss a herpetic lesion. This episode is full of great information for the patient and provider!
