So It's Come To This: A Simpson's Family Podcast

By Bryan Budnik

Cori and Bryan started this podcast as an activity that they and their children could do together, but alas the children grew up so now their pal Patrick is along for the ride. Come join them, as well as some special guests along the way, for some perfectly cromulent discussion about everything Simpsons. Join them as they discuss a variety of topics, and episode breakdowns where they compare their thoughts of the show growing up and seeing if their outlook has changed, as adults and parents.

Episode 95: A Streetcar Named Marge or This Episode, All Awkward References

On this episode we look at how the sausage is made with Springfield Community Theatre's musical production of a Streetcar Named Desire. Join us as we also bring you:

- Cori's Oscar status report

- We actually do talk about X

- The realization that the opening credit scene is way too long, for today's audiences

- Meryl Streep talk

- What is objectivism anyways

- Patrick speaks of his experience directing musicals

- Bryan's thoughts on the A Streetcar Named Desire film and who could play Stanley in a modern rendition

- We recommend: Euphoria, WikiHole, The Program

Episode 94: Much Apu About Nothing or Discourse not Concourse

Episode 94: Much Apu About Nothing or Discourse not Concourse

We take a look at this episode which serves as a social commentary that unfortunately still rings true. Mayor Quimby finds a scapegoat to justify the cost of high taxes and sadly some of our favorites are right in the crosshairs.

We're here, we're queer, we don't want any more bears, but we do bring the following to the table:

- Taking a clear stance on how we feel about murder

- Could this be the fastest we've ever gotten to talking about an episode

- Animation goofs

- The shockingly low salary for Nuclear Safety Inspectors

- How a misunderstanding led to Bryan and Cori's love story

- The whirlwind Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman relationship

- Jokes that don't land

- Fits of laughter

- Patrick's US Citizenship test backfires

- Our thoughts on the Apu controversy

We hope you enjoy this one and thank you for your support!

Episode 92: Love Springfieldian Style or Two Wrongs Don't Make John Forsythe

Episode 92: Love Springfieldian Style or Two Wrongs Don't Make John Forsythe

Coming atcha with our 92nd Episode, this ones a Valentine's Themed episode where the Simpsons give their take on 3 "classic" love stories. We are slightly taken aback with some of the double entendres used in the second segment but they save it with a classic dig at their eventual overlords Disney. Listen in as we discuss this as well as our usual form of non-sensical ramblings such as:

- Learning which actors have died

- Does anyone even want an Eddie Furlong podcast?

- Listener emails

- A new nickname for Scandoval

- A brief history of the Sex Pistols

- The worst sibling from Succession

- Arguably too much Kieran Culkin talk

All this and so much more!

PLEASE NOTE: Patrick muted his mic for a portion of this recording and we did our best to fix the audio so you could hear him. It only lasts about 10 minutes but if you're annoyed it's fixed by the 1:15:50 mark, so feel free to fast forward if you'd like. Thank you for your understanding and our apologies!

Episode 87: The Bob Next Door or You Missed the Purple Crayon Wagon

Episode 87: The Bob Next Door or You Missed the Purple Crayon Wagon

Cori picked out this "newer" episode from season 21, and ask ourselves can an episode from 13 years ago still be considered "newer?" In this one, the Simpsons get a new neighbor and Sideshow Bob borrows an idea from a 90's movie, to get out of prison. We discuss this and so much more in this doozey of an episode. What more you ask, well this should give you some idea:

Episode 72: Radioactive Man or Generations from now no one will ever say I'm going to quote Fred Durst

Episode 72: Radioactive Man or Generations from now no one will ever say I'm going to quote Fred Durst

In this episode we welcome back Steve Lewis to take a deep dive into this episode that takes a look at Super Hero movie making before the boom of Super Hero movies. We were astonished at the very reasonable cost for making a film back then and compare that to the cost of some actual blockbusters from that time. So don't just sit there, up and atom and listen to this absolute fan favorite!

Episode 65: Treehouse of Horror IV or You Get It, I'm Wine, Checkmate Christians

It's spoopy season! It what better way to kick it off then with this classic Treehouse of Horror offering. It all starts off with Homer selling his soul for a donut, then shows Bart's run in with a gremlin and then finish it off with something thrown together about Vampires.

- Our connection to the Simpsons Family and their trip to, Pennsylvania

- Bryan and Cori confuse Brenden again, this time it has to do with Jerry Springer

- We discover a new word to describe elderly vampires, "Vampa"

This is by far one of the best Treehouse of Horror offerings there is so don't listen to that old War of the Worlds broadcast on NPR, join us for a ghoulishly good time!

Episode 64: Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind or How Many Cockles is Too Many Cockles?

Episode 64: Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind or How Many Cockles is Too Many Cockles?

So sorry for the delay but we're finally back! Some have said that this episode from Season 19 would have been the perfect way to end the show, I guess they didn't realize it would still be going strong 15 years later with no signs of stopping. The episode places Homer in a precarious position where he doesn't remember a seemingly traumatic experience from the night before. As he tries to put the pieces back together he realizes what a lucky man he truly is.

We were a bit torn over this one and go deep, not only in our thoughts of the episode as a whole, but how we would feel if this would have been the final episode of the show. Along the way Cori tells us about her chiropractor and the connection between Jack the Ripper and H.H. Holmes. Bryan fears that due to the time away that she might have developed a case of the yipps. He also announces some Season 34 news and Brenden is not happy about it. They then go on to debate the appeal of "newer" Simpsons episodes. Can an epiode that is over 10 years old be considered new? We increase our online impact with our first Instagram comment and reveal the results of the Ewan McGreggor mullet poll.

We also discuss our favorite donuts, Brenden learns what nighttime minutes are and searnades us with a song from his 4th grade musical. Lastly Cori and Bryan discuss their My Chemical Romance experience with Lu. This was a good one and we hope that it was worth the wait!

Ep. 63: Behind the Laughter or If You Cut This Out We're Through Professionally

In this episode we see the real story of everyone's favorite Northern Kentucky family, The Simpsons (warts and all) ala a parody of VH1's seminal hit Behind the Music. Bryan tells us about the origins of the episode as well as other places the Simpsons are reportedy from. Brenden learns about Tiger Beat and VH1, and tells us why they call him the Apple Meister. Cori is shocked to find out that VHS tapes still existed in the early 2000's and discusses a few more crushes. We also talk about big budget music videos, all the Tiger Beat worthy boys from back in the day and come up with some new prank show names. Even Dean makes a brief but memorable appearance, our apolgies if you can hear is collar during parts of the episode. We had a lot of fun with this one and for the first time ever all seem to agree on our thoughts about the episode. We hope you enjoy it!

Ep. 62 The Italian Bob or Donezo: The Longest Goodbye Ever

Ep. 62 The Italian Bob or Donezo: The Longest Goodbye Ever

This is the second of two Sideshow Bob episodes as we see what happened to Sideshow Bob after his last attempt to get Bart, when the family meets up with him unexpectedly in Italy. Brenden had to set this one out due to scheduling conflicts so Cori and Bryan take it over. Cori gets upset over the dumming down of the Italian language for this episode and she may have her own vendetta against Disney? Bryan tells the truth behind Veggie Tales and discusses the joys of the tv cart being rolled into your classroom. Lastly, Cori tells us that she had a shot to be on the Mickey Mouseclub, if only she lived in Orlandon in the 90s. This was another fun one and we hope that you can join us.

Ep. 61 The Great Louse Detective or They know that we know, that they know, that we know, ya know?

Ep. 61 The Great Louse Detective or They know that we know, that they know, that we know, ya know?

In this episode we have the first of two upcoming episodes featuring the the triumphant return of fan favorite Sideshow Bob. This episode shows us the importance of backdoor deals and Bob helps the Simpson family discover who is trying to kill Homer. He is actually an huge help and puts his hatred of Bart on the backburner, with a little persuasion from an electric zapper.

For the first time in a long time we do talk about Twitter, as it is brought up a few times in the Eye on Springfield segment. London makes a brief appearance to tell us all about Charley DiMillio. Brenden thinks that Frasier and Kramer are the same person and is told all about George Foreman and his famous grill. Bryan looks back fondly on RC Cola and has to set Brenden straight on the difference between it and Crown Royal. Is Milwaukee a state? We take a moment to discuss. Cori also tells us about a true to life experience inspired by Wayne's World and involving the band Reel Big Fish.

That trip to the Swordfish Museum can wait listen to this episode now on Spotify, Stitcher, Apple and Google Podcasts or wherever you find your podcasts.

Ep. 60 The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson

Ep. 60 The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson

On this episode we take a look at the Simpson family trip to New York City and discuss how this eisode had a lot of funny moments but realy doesn't offer much in the way of story. Brenden tells his story of getting his first speeding ticket while weighing in on Billie Ellish and is shocked to find out how long ago Ferris Bueller was released. Bryan pitches some new story ideas that might have improved the episode and discusses a joke from the episode that doesn't really hold up. Cori tells a story about having to pee during her sonogram and announces that she is retiring the News and Views segment. We also argue about the timing of the Trump/Simpsons connection and it's contribution to the Simpsons prediction phenomenon. So sit back, relax, pour yourself a tall glass of crab juice and enjoy the ride.

Ep. 59 New Kids on the Blecch or What if Loopey and Coughy Carry this Episode?

Ep. 59 New Kids on the Blecch or What if Loopey and Coughy Carry this Episode?

Do you like Boy Bands? Well if so have we got a doozey for you! In this episode we see a government conspiracy lead to the formation of Springfield's first boyband the Party Posse. And let's not forget about the special appearance by N'Sync. Cori has a lot to say about boy bands and sends us down an extensive boy band breakdown, as well as telling us which band she met at a local K-Mart in her youth. She also ranks her favorite members of N'Sync. Bryan tells us who the Simpson's creators originally wanted instead of N'Sync and the joke that they played on Justin Timberlake.  Brenden learns about VJs and asks if this episode ripped of the Josie and the Pusscats movie that came out around the same time. So come kick it with us old school, Word!

Just a quick disclaimer Cori was feeling better but was still not 100% so we did the best we could to edit out her coughing but a few may have still made it in.

Episode 58: The Itchy, Scratchy & Poochie Show or Who's Dons Cordoroy?

Episode 58: The Itchy, Scratchy & Poochie Show or Who's Dons Cordoroy?

Oh how we've missed you! Have you missed us? So sorry for the delay but with coflicting scedules and sickness that ran rampant through the house we had a tough time getting this one out for you but here it is in all of it's glory! In this episode we see Krusty try to pivot to stop the bad ratings of Itchy and Scratchy by introducing a new character, everyone's favorite half Joe Camel and a third Fonzarelli, kung fu hippie from Gangsta City, the rappin surfer whose fool he pities, everyone's favorite Poochie.

We were just coming back from a road trip to Pittsburgh so we were all a little bit punchy but think the episode turned pretty good, even if we went multiple days from watching the episode to recording the podcast. Cori sings some Nelly and has a question about Luther Vandross. Bryan tells us of the connection between Poochie and a certain character form Growing Pains, all while trying to discover the meaning of "debu." Brenden leads a discussion of fan boy culture and gets very upset over the concept of painting bricks. But through it all the family can at least agree on one thing, Roy's our boy! So join us for this deleriously delusional ride, you'll be glad you did!

Episode 57: Boy Meets Curl or A Dream Come True Maker

Hot off the 2022 Winter Olympics, we bring you this travel episode, where Homer and Marge compete for Olympic curling glory during the 2010 Winter Olympics, in Vancouver, Canada. Lisa also develops an addictive habit until Bart helps her kick it. Cori discusses the origin of the Romper Room Shout Out and reveals the shocking truth, that she was originally left handed. Brenden is alientated once again, this time it's about Tom Brokow and he helps us to discover that Alaska is further away then we thought. Bryan gets annoyed with the inconsistencies of animated curling and we end the episode talking about funeral potatoes. So get out your brooms and get ready to be swept up in a really fun episode.

Episode 56: I Love Lisa or Should Have Kept Pee Wee in the Playhouse

Episode 56: I Love Lisa or Should Have Kept Pee Wee in the Playhouse

We choo-choo-choose you to listen to this classic episode where we take a look at I Love Lisa. Ralph Wiggum falls for Lisa but his interest is not reciprocated. Brenden helps us look at this episode in a different light by not only looking at things through Ralph's eyes but rather through Lisa's eyes. We question Ralph's actions and think that Lisa may not be completely in the wrong. Cori has us play a game where we guess which breakup lines she has used from the show. We also answer listener emails and tell childhood Valentine's Day stories. You might not have asked for it but we also bring you some great nose picking content and make sure to stick around for Cori's bold Super Bowl predictions. This is an all time great episode of the Simpsons and we had a blast recording this one, we hope you enjoy it as well!

Episode 55: The Fear of Flying or Couches are for Louses

For this episode we decided to give Marge some love and go back to the hey day of the show as we look at the season 6 episode, The Fear of Flying. In the episode Marge reveals that she has a deeprooted fear of flying and gets some help to try to overcome it. Our hosts break it all down for you with a lot of fun along the way. Cori says hello to some ball playing boys and asks the age old question are you Team Dylan or Team Brandon. Brenden and Bryan also discuss the history of the couch gag and whether it should be changed. They all talk about the similarities between the songs, It's Raining Men and Bodies, as well as having a discussion about a real dog wedding. We hope that you will send your tots and pears for Dean, and hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 54: Frinkcoin or All I want for Christmas is you? There is no you.

Episode 54: Frinkcoin or All I want for Christmas is you? There is no you.

Well we admittedly made a mistake with this episode as there was some confusion between the episode that Brenden wanted and the episode that we took a look at. The episode shows Professor Frink develop his own cryptocurrency and becomes quite wealthy as well as finding some new friend. Not willing to become the second richest man in Springfield Mr. Burns decides to make his own and ultimately usurp Frink of his postion. This episode starts of with just Bryan and Brenden, as Cori was not feeling up to recording but she realizes that she couldn't stay away and shows up halfway through to defend Mariah Carey. Cailin also makes a brief appearance to give you a recommendation.

The episode was the most cryptocurrency episode that ever cryptocurrencied. Along the way the gang is rather critical of this modern episode, but they do find their way to some high points. Bryan loves the Jim Parsons cryptocurrency bit, while Brenden has the realization that this episode is rather similar to a Dhar Mann video. After having a heatfelt moment Cori has another Hello Therapist moment as well as professing her love for googly eyes. Brenden ends the episode with a rant on cryptocurrency and apologizes for the confusion in selected this episode. I guess that's what we get for selected a current one.

Episode 52: Who Shot Mr. Burns Part II

In this episode we reach the conclusion of the biggest mystery in Springfield's history, as we fond out who shot Mr. Burns. Everyone is a suspect and the Budnik/Scarupa family discusses their thoughts on the final reveal. Brenden comes up with a rather interesting proposal for 1995 Matt Groening. Cori and Bryan both look back on this episode and reveal that they have different impressions of this episode now that they had back in the day. We also reveal, which of our lucky listeners is the winner of the custom made Treehouse of Horror XVI poster. This one's a doozey and we hope you come along for the ride!

*Audio note, Brenden had his mic muted for a small portion of the episode, so our apologies for the any audio issues you may encounter.

Episode 50: Who Shot Mr. Burns Part 1 or Mr. Nether Regions

Episode 50: Who Shot Mr. Burns Part 1 or Mr. Nether Regions

In this episode the Budnik-Scarupa family sees Mr. Burns turn maniacal in his plot to block out the sun, in order to force the residents of Springfield into using more energy from his plant. Of course the residents don't take this lightly and someone takes matters into their own hands, but who was it? Along the way we discuss the popping collars trend, alienating Brenden, once again, with timely references and Cori has trouble pronouncing certain words. She also accuses Bryan of forcing her to record even though she is sick, so we'll let you be the judge of that. This is an episode that we think will really blow smoke up your dress! Please be advised if you don't know how the Mr. Burns saga ends there is a spoiler at the end that you may want to avoid. Thanks for listening!

Episode 49: Homerpalooza or Goth with Color

Episode 49: Homerpalooza or Goth with Color

Months ago our friend Jessica Alvarez mentioned that she was watching Homerpalooza and was having a tough time accepting the fact that the then current bands, shown in the episode, are now the "old people" bands. She requested we take a look at this episode which we not only did but but one better and invited her to join us to get her take on it. Like Homer in the episode, we struggle with accepting that the bands shown are no longer relevant and wonder if the same can be said about us? Cori reveals a musical secret that she has held on to for may years. Bryan reveals the one concert he regrets not going to. Jess even comes up with a fantastic description of Emo music that we are still laughing about! This episode was a long time coming but we think it was well worth the wait and hope you enjoy it!

Episode 48: The Mysterious Voyage of Homer Simpson or The Popes of Chilitown vs. the Chilitown Popes

Episode 48: The Mysterious Voyage of Homer Simpson or The Popes of Chilitown vs. the Chilitown Popes

In this episode Homer stumbles upon a Chili Cookoff where he eats some insanity peppers that cause him to hallucinate. During his trip he meets a spiritual guide voiced by the late great Johnny Cash and heads out on a quest to find his soulmate. Along the way the Budnik Scarupa family welcomes in friend of the family Don Johnson, no not that Don Johnson, Buffalo's own Don Johnson. They discuss Chris Pratt (again) and Brenden is obsessed with bringing up the newly announced Mario Bros. movie and needless to say he is not too happy about it. Cori lets us in on a little secret and Brenden shocks them all with the realization that there is a connection to oranges and smoking cigarettes. Don really helps to bring the laughs on this one and we hope that you enjoy it! So grab your chili eating spoon, put on that Time for Chili hat and strap yourself in for a wild ride!

Episode 47: How I Spent My Strummer Vacation or Just a Guy Who Works at a Place

In this episode we see Homer go on a wild ride from saying some rather upsetting things about his family to rocking out with a bunch of rock and roll legends, which ultimately ends in a riot. Would you expect anything less from the citizens of Springfield? The Budnik-Scarupa family also discusses their non existent Patreon levels and a HUGE announcement about everyone's favorite show, Manifest. They also debate whether or not Nick Jonas is a rock star and how to determine the difference between average and slightly above average. And who could forget yet another timely reference as Cori goes on a rant about Lancelot Link Secret Chimp. We bet you'll be singing the theme song when we're through. So did this episode really happen or is it all part of Homer's drunken hallucination? Either way, you should come along for the ride, because it may only be rock and roll but we like it!

Episode 46: Lisa's First Word or There Were a Lot of Bits and Moments

Episode 46: Lisa's First Word or There Were a Lot of Bits and Moments

In this episode we take you all the way back to 1984 and Brenden is totally alienated with all of the references as Bryan and Cori reminisce. The cookie butter ghost returns and the family gets confused over the difference between Rod and Todd. Brenden gets offended over one of Homer's lines which leads to a discussion on some of the problematic jokes in the episode. The family is split on their feelings on this episode but we still had a great time and we hope you will too!
