Learning The Strength of Vulnerability; a Raw & Real Interview with BU Sophomore Member; Kellee Cameron

Learning The Strength of Vulnerability; a Raw & Real Interview with BU Sophomore Member; Kellee Cameron

What does it mean to be 'strong'? If you asked Kellee Cameron this a few years ago the answer may have focused mainly on physical strength, perseverance, and moving forward at all costs - often to the point of burnout. This approach to life has led to many successes for Kellee. She is a successful small business owner, as well as a highly decorated and awarded athlete in the field of competitive bodybuilding.

However, sometimes achievement and happiness don't go hand in hand. Reaching a point of burnout, alongside mental health struggles within her family, led Kellee to connect with us at BU and to begin learning more about her mind and emotions. Now, Kellee is on a journey of changing her definition of what it means to be strong. She's learning to embrace vulnerability, she's developing the skills to manage her mind and emotions more effectively, and she's stepping up as a leader to spread this positive ripple effect to the people she leads as a PT and fitness industry professional.

If you're a bit of a high achiever who feels the pressure to always 'have your shit together' then this is a fantastic episode to listen to.

SPECIAL EPISODE: Explaining the Radio Silence + a Temporary Farewell

SPECIAL EPISODE: Explaining the Radio Silence + a Temporary Farewell

In this special episode of the show, I wanted to be raw, real and honest with you all. Despite having an amazing year with the show expanding into 13 countries and experiencing a 70% growth in listeners I've been feeling disconnected from the show for a few months now.

This is why there hasn't been a new episode for over a month and it's also why I've decided to let go of the show for the time being and take a step back. It takes a lot of effort, time and energy to make this show a reality and lately it's felt more like an obligation than a joy.

When I sat with this decision I realised it was a green light move (equally scary and exciting) for me to let go.

However, this isn't goodbye forever. My intention at this point in time is to take the next few months to reconnect with why I started a podcast in the first place. In that time I'll be exploring the key messages and themes I want to bring back to the show as well as lining up some incredible guests.

I'll also be developing a brand new show 'Working Well with Declan Edwards' to complement BU with Declan Edwards. Where BU with Declan Edwards will continue to focus on personal development and wellbeing, our new show 'Working Well with Declan Edwards' will focus on workplace wellbeing and what it takes to create a culture of thriving and happiness at work.

Season 4 of BU with Declan Edwards and Season 1 of Working Well with Declan Edwards are both going to be launch in late March 2021.

In the meantime please feel free to catch up on any episodes of the show that you've missed or to connect with me personally on Facebook and Instagram (@declanedwards_bu) as I'll be utilising these platforms to continue growing global wellbeing, one mind at a time.

Until next year, thank you for being a part of this journey and listening to the show.

Wizards of Wellbeing Season 3, Episode 1: Psychology Is Not a Dirty Word - with special guest; Dr Hayley Watson

This is, without a doubt, one of our favourite episodes of the BU with Declan Edwards podcast.

Where do we even start when it comes to the incredible Dr Hayley Watson:

Hayley is a TedX speaker, mental health expert and pioneer in making mental wellbeing proactive and relatable. Her work has seen her positively impact lives in multiple countries around the world and help shape the future of how schools approach the mental and emotional wellbeing of their students.

At a young age, Hayley and her family were the victims of a string of bombing attacks - a crime that still has not been solved to this day.

The subsequent trauma and recovery process led Hayley to become particularly passionate about trauma recovery, mental health and emotional wellbeing in children and teenagers.

Throughout this episode, Hayley speaks candidly about her past, opens up about her approach to psychology and shares some exciting visions for the future of mental health on a global scale.

Out of all the episodes we've done this is the one that Declan was most starstruck for!

In the final episode of Season 2 I had the honour and privilege to sit down with one of our Freshman Year members, Ayrton Lowther, and have an upfront and honest conversation about his Personal Development & Wellbeing journey.

Ayrton's story is a testament to what can happen when you commit to investing in yourself and commit to getting outside of your comfort zone. His achievements throughout the program thus far are a credit to his dedication and discipline.

As his Coach I couldn't be more proud to have Ayrton on the show for the final episode of Season 2.

Wizards of Wellbeing Season 2 Episode 2 - Following Your Intuition with Scott Bidmead

Wizards of Wellbeing Season 2 Episode 2 - Following Your Intuition with Scott Bidmead

Welcome back to the Wizards of Wellbeing mini-series on the BU with Declan Edwards Podcast. In this mini-series we interview and connect with experts who we feel are making magic in people's lives.

On this week's episode of the show we are joined by our good friend, Scott Bidmead.

Scott is an entrepreneur, a media personality and a passionate advocate for all things wellbeing and flourishing.

In his past, Scott has been the presenter on numerous TV programs, has interviewed celebrities such as Morgan Freeman and Jason Momoa, and has grown a successful PR and Media Company.

In this interview though we are stripping back the glitz and glamour to focus more on Scott's personal story. In this interview, we dive into some of the changes he has made over the past couple of years as a result of reconnecting with his vision and sense of purpose. We also discuss concepts such as:

  1. What it means to live a good life
  2. How to reconnect with yourself when the world is so loud
  3. Embracing the idea that you don't have to pigeon hole yourself and just be one thing.

If you're feeling a bit disconnected from what matters to you in life, if you've been told that you should chase your dreams but you're unsure what you should be dreaming about in the first place - this is the episode for you.

PS: It means the world to us if you SUBSCRIBE & REVIEW the show on any platform you're listening on.

Insider Scoop Season 1, Episode 3: Connecting with Ami Rankin, Head of Coaching & Development at BU

We cannot believe it's taken this long for us to finally have Ami Rankin on the show.

You may already know Ami from instagram (@ami_rankin), from her own podcast (Nourishing Ami) or from the fact that she is our incredible Head of Coaching & Development here at BU.

Ami writes and runs half of our Personal Development & Wellbeing Accelerator program and has been making such a profound positive impact on people's lives since she came on board with BU way back in 2017.

But what you may know is that; true to BU's vision of "making an impact, starting with self", Ami's Personal Development & Wellbeing journey started with her being a member of BU.

In this episode Ami opens up about:

- the tipping point that led her to start her Personal Development & Wellbeing journey

- how her habit of repression was just leading to more anxiety and overwhelm

- and how she navigated, and continues to navigate, identity shifts caused by huge changes in her life.

This is an episode not to be missed, I couldn't think of a better episode to finish Season 1 of 2020 on.

Don't forget that you can connect with Ami via:
