In this podcast, I am sharing my story of getting lost on the first day of arriving in the USA. I ended up looking for my apartment for more than 7 hours while carrying my entire savings inside my bra in the cold streets of Chicago. That night, I never found my apartment. However, on a brighter note, I didn't end up sleeping on the street!

...تا حالا شده با یک نفر باشید که خیلی آدم خوب و مهربونیه و خیلی هم با هم تفاهم دارید ولی وقتی پای ابراز احساسات وسط میاد شما اون حس کافی و رضایت بخشی که لازمه رو ازش نمیگیرید
بر عکس این شرایط هم وجود داره, مثلا بعضی رابطه‌ها بدون هیچ تلاشی با ثبات میشند. ممکنه با اینکه خیلی هم کم یکدیگرو می‌بینید ولی هر دفعه حس می‌کنید که سالها همدیگرو می‌شناسید، و وقتی بهاشون هستید از لحاظ احساسی حس کافی رو ازشون میگیرید
دلیل اینها می‌تونه بخاطر گویش‌های زبان عشق شما باشه. هر کس به یک گونه ابراز احساسات میکنه. آگاهی از گویش زبان خودتون و همچنین دوستان، خانواده، شریک زندگی، غیره... می‌تونه باعث جلوگیری از خیلی سؤ تفاهم‌ها بشه

E9: International Students and Covid-19
International students in the USA were among those who were hit the hardest by the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. The new restrictions on international students' visas by President Trump's administration forced many of them to return to their home-countries. Many of them came here and spent premiums to graduate with a degree from an American university which could potentially bring more career opportunities for them. However, they are now forced to let go of that goal and return to their own countries with the college credits that are not even transferrable!
Why should international students who enrich the fabric of our economy and culture be in such position to choose between education or their health?
In this week's episode, I have my former classmate and my friend, Meriyam Bizhanova. She was an international student from Kazakhstan and spent 3 years in Washington to study English and complete her Associate of Arts degree. She unpacked her experiences as an international student in WA and how those experiences have impacted her. Enjoy!
E8: Golden Friendships
I spent a good chunk of the first half of my 20s on building friendships that I hoped would last forever. Not all of them did, but very few made it up to this day which I am very grateful for.
In this week’s episode, I have one of my best friends who has been there through thin and thick. It should not be a surprise that she has such interesting stories to share with you all. She was born in Kenya and after graduating from high school moved to Malaysia to pursue a degree in engineering. That is where we met and became roommates and best friends. Since then, she's traveled the world, finished her master's in Lyon, France, and is currently living in France.
Our friendship has continued since 2009 despite the distance between us. Let’s face it, some friendships are golden. They do not require too much maintenance because they are genuine. They do not happen too often, but when they do, I'd love to cherish it and nurture it. In this episode, Libby & I unpacked the story of our friendship and her experience of living/working/ studying in Kenya, Malaysia, and France. Hope you enjoy it!

This week I chatted with Jessica Coup & Scott Bergstein, an American couple who sold their penthouse in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, got rid of their cars, ditched typical retirement plans, and moved to Italy with the dream of spending the rest of their retirements at an olive farm! Their plans did not go exactly as expected, but their adventurous personality and perseverance came to rescue! They now enjoy living splits time between Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Ubud, Bali. Jessica has been documenting their journey around the world with her camera and Scott has written two amazing books called Soul of the Heel & Mis(s)pellings: A Magical Comedy . In this episode, they shared how they ended up living in these three beautiful countries, what lessons they have learned from their experiences, and how being an expat impacted the person that they are today, and more. This week, my amazing roommate joined me on the show and we unpacked some serious topics with a dash of humor, of course!
Corinna talked about her experiences of living as an Asian-American in WA. We talked about how little the topic of race is being discussed in some cultures - that does not imply that racism doesn't exist in those cultures! It just means that we all have become so numb about racism that we sometime do not even notice it. It has become so ingrained in us in both ends (receiving it & being racist) that we think it is normal! We also touched on how to change that!!!
The title of this episode will be a reminder to myself, as well, to never stop talking about race and racism - even though I was taught & programmed to keep quiet and suck it up!

Hello guys, I am back!
Apologies for not being able to upload new episodes for almost two weeks!!! I was busy with school, finding a new apartment, and then moving!!!
