Mike Abel (Fork + Ale House)

What do one of Louisville’s oldest breweries, Great Flood Brewing, and one of Carmel Indiana’s finest breweries have in common? They both have had the pleasure of this week's guest, Mike Abel, (Head Brewer, Fork + Ale House, Cellarman, Ash & Elm) gracing their taprooms. In this conversation we discuss current trends in beer and cider, how to plan a day trip in #Indy, and some interesting topics in health and music! It was an absolute pleasure having Mike on the show and we hope that you enjoy this conversation as much as we did.

Make sure to go and try all of Mike's great beers next time you are up Carmel way. (https://forkalehouse.com/)

Corey & Danielle Wood (Elixir Kombucha)

After drinking all the Louisville Beer during Louisville Beer Week, the guys were incredibly excited to take a “booch’ break” this episode with the incredible duo that is Corey and Danielle Wood, owners and founders of Elixir Kombucha.

We got the rundown on their recent growth into their new production home, the story of how Corey’s kombucha-loving aunt launched them on their journey, and got very up close and personal with a big chunk of actual SCOBY skin (stay tuned to the end for tasting notes…yeah), and even helped Elixir up its brand game with the selection of the new OFFICIAL Elixir mascot.

Featured Beverages:

  • Mad Elf, Grand Cru – TRÖEGS Independent Brewing
  • NKD LDY Non-Alcoholic Whiskey

Vince Cain (Great Flood Co-Founder, Right Mind Consulting)

This week we welcome a veteran of the Louisville beer scene, Vince Cain, co-founder and former co-owner of Great Flood Brewing, and Owner of Right Mind Consulting. We also welcome guest host Alex Vogt (owner, Awry Brewing).

Vince, with his other partners, opened Great Flood all the way back in 2013 and kicked off the second wave of growth in Louisville’s modern brewery scene. In his many years building the business of Great Flood, and in his current work as a consultant to non-profits and small businesses, Vince has truly seen it all. It was a truly great opportunity to get to sit down and get Vince’s perspective on how Louisville beer has grown and evolved over the last ten years.

We also put his business acumen to the test and let him invest David’s life savings in our Shark Tank spin-off: “Bright Tank.”

Katie Jo Glesing (Boo812)

Katie Jo Glesing (Boo812)

Have you felt it? That subtle shift in the air hinting at the first taste of fall? We have, and this week we are incredibly excited to embrace it by welcoming Katie Jo Glesing to the show. Katie is the Founder (and possible Physic Vampire) of Boo812: Paranormal Research and Edutainment.

Katie embraces her affinity for all things Woo to explore beyond the veil with fellow researchers and individuals all across Kentucky and Indiana. It was absolutely fascinating to hear her story, learn more about local lore, and the current state of paranormal research as it receives increasingly more mainstream acceptance.

We also hook each other up to Katie's spirit box and try some channeling of the spirits in the shop, as well as “Choose our own Adventure” with the help of a ghost in the machine.

Welcome to the fall, y'all.

David Castellon (Gravely Brewing)

This week the guys are joined by the one and only David Castellon. David has seen it all in his 15 years in and around craft beer: from pounding porters in the family restaurant to building craft beer in early 2000s SoCal, guiding tours through Anchor’s historic brewery, to his current role building brand and culture with Gravely Brewing.

This conversation was as fascinating as it was wide-ranging. Come for the beer talk, stay for the film analysis (and some questionably earned LAT accolades).

  • Oompah Oktoberfest (Gravely)

Jeff Faith (Fehr's Beer)

Jeff Faith (Fehr's Beer)

This week the guys are joined by the one and only Jeff Faith. Jeff is a fixture in Louisville for his laid-back and “dudely” presence, his skills on the bass, his fixing up of airplanes and old boats, and for resurrecting the classic Fehr’s Beer.

In Louisville’s pre-prohibition era, Fehr’s was among the biggest breweries in the country, with distribution nationwide. Over the 20th century, the brand declined and disappeared until Jeff’s passion for reviving cool, vintage things led him to acquire the lapsed trademark and set him on a mission to bring Fehr’s back in as historically accurate a way as possible.

Today you can find Fehr’s XL on draft and in cans to-go at Akasha Brewing Company.

We also put Jeff to the test on his favorite movie “The Big Lebowski,” discussed his growing obsession with bees and boats, and bid a fond farewell to Anchor Christmas Ale.

Featured Beers:

  • Cool Cricket (Horse & Dragon Brewing Company)
  • Fehrs XL
  • Anchor Christmas Ale
