Fun Fact: while unicorns are not real, narwhals are.

Heather identifies some key indicators on what it means to be engaged and shares them. Key questions cover: How can you find engagement? Episode 7: Money Is So Emotional

In this episode, Cate and Jen talk with Andrea Ferrero about Pockets Change, a finance education organization focused on creating spaces for building real-world skills and relationships through an understanding of ourselves, our community, and our world. Andrea help Cate and Jen determine their financial identities and shares how we can infuse our instruction with financial literacy via hip hop pedagogy as early as first grade! Three of the biggest opportunities that have arisen for her and her students while #quaranteaching include:

  1. Not Your Average Ice-Breaker, the two-word check-in for acknowledging emotions
  2. The Power of Art, finding your tendencies and ways to share creatively and stay grounded
  3. Values-Based Community, building spaces of shared values and support

She shares, “I've been teaching for 16 years and I believe in powerful and transformational learning that happens in small moments of conversation and connection. There's a lot that feels out of control right now but online conversations keep us connected and tap into everyday learning in a whole new way. I teach about money and that brings up all sorts of emotions on a normal day.” Get to know Andrea and have a giggle on us!
