The Purpose Playbook is here to help companies better understand what it means to have a purpose-led organization, what makes a purpose worth having, and how to deliver on the promise of that purpose by focusing on shared value. Shared value, a business discipline where companies use their core business to drive societal change and enhance their competitiveness, is the most powerful practice to fulfill corporate purpose aspirations. This Playbook is designed to help you bring that practice to life. John O'Duinn - Author of "Distributed Teams: The Art and Practice of Working Together While Physically Apart"
Working in distributes teams has become the new normal during the Coronavirus and will likely be the way we work going forward. Today I talk to John O'Duinn. He is the author of "Distributed Teams: The Art and Practice of Working Together While Physically Apart. John loves growing a culture where diverse groups of humans work well together in a distributed global workforce. He has worked in distributed teams for 27 years, led distributed teams for 14 years and coached/mentored fast-growing distributed companies for 6 years. So far, he has lived and worked in 13 cities across four continents. As this way of working has become more mainstream, and even more now during the Coronovirus, he noticed a lack of practical material in this area, so in 2018, he published his book "Distributed Teams: The Art and Practice of Working Together While Physically Apart". This practical easy-to-read management book deals with immediate tactical issues, more complex human dynamics as well as wider social, diversity and environmental aspects. In 2018, he also helped write the State of Vermont's "Remote Worker" law - a very different approach to Economic Development which has been so wildly successful that I'm now helping draft bills and write policies for multiple other jurisdictions world-wide. John's website is https://oduinn.com and you can find him on Linkedin here https://www.linkedin.com/in/joduinn. This show is sponsored by Idea Storm – a leading exponential growth consultancy. The Amazing Flywheel Effect - the secret to Amazon's success
Amazon has used the Flywheel Effect to create the amazingly successful company that it is today. The concept of the Flywheel Effect was termed by Jim Collins in his book “Good to Great”. A flywheel is a massive metal disk, or wheel, that often weighs over 2,000 kgs. It takes a lot of effort to get started but once it starts to turn there are counter weights around the outside of the wheel but start to take effect and it starts to build momentum almost by itself.
