#20 - F1 Drive to Survive Recap

#20 - F1 Drive to Survive Recap

The coffee machine team decided we'd like to cloud your quarantine reality with a little escapism! With racing at a standstill, all professional sports, and life as we know it, we wanted to hop back in our time pods and frolic around the fields of yesteryear... And that’s where you’ll find us — at the intersection of discussion intervention and brain soup - recapping the recent season of Formula 1 drive to survive.

We hand picked our favorite storylines, entangle ourselves in the very fabric that makes William Storey’s beard so mysterious, and poop out a product we think to be another apex that will soon be missed. Ride along BABY, take our hands, and away we go…

Lastly, IF you find yourself aimlessly scrolling one day on instagram, make the voyage over to @cafemachina. We're doing live shows every Friday, we're talking about thunks, and if you too have a thunk - THIS IS YOUR MOMENT.

#18 - Solutions for your earholes

Nestled inside our shoebox shelters, while most scurry off to the virtual ethers of a simulated racing scape made of mangled dreams off the shores of turn 1, we want to make sure we’re spending our time wisely. And as uncertainty flexes our unsightly fear muscles, as we witness the unraveling of our seasons, our jobs, and most of all the money that keeps these wheels a turnin’, we pause and reflect on a few pertinent questions.

From all of us at Cafe Machina, happy fu**in friday.

#17 - Patience is a Virtue

Hey guys —the coffee machine is back! We have a bunch of episodes releasing this week, so stay tuned. As we settle into these unprecedented times,  we find ourselves at a unique crossroads. Though we can no longer share spaces, we CAN share our minds, unique thunks, and commune with the racing world at large. It’s a chaotic time, so we hope this gives you a little somethin to nibble on.

In typical Machineer form, we tangentially explore many other racing thunks you might be curious to know, such as; a victory worth sneezing over, esport races worth hacking away at, and a secret limoncello recipe. It’s all there, everything you never asked for. And If you feel so compelled, leave a review on iTunes,

#13 - The 2nd cup

#13 - The 2nd cup

You know that feeling when you get too busy to think about something for 2 years? Sometimes when you look back at your life, you realize things. In our case, we forgot to do that until now. You see it's not so much as we stopped doing cafe machina, but something more along the lines of "we forgot to record a podcast for 2 years". The act of stopping would require outright ACTion.... which as I've eluded to, is not what we did.

We realize we've made a grave mistake. But 2020 C'MON it has a ring to it, something in the air full of possibility. It gave us clarity. Racing is our lives, this is our year. Maybe it was the beaming hope of a new decade- cuddling us with shiny new "partnership opportunities" and a group of resolutions to soon neglect. Or possibly the lasik blurs finally subsiding. Whatever it was, WE'RE BACK. And we promise we won't leave. This is our new home and it just so happens you live here too... because we're sleeping on your couch.

To make it all up to you, we're going to pretend like nothing ever happened. And continue on as if we're back at the counter mugging our denny's waiter down for a 2nd cup of joe. First loser, 2nd fastest, if you ain't first your last: however you deal with losing, consider this the start of our 2nd season. Our sophomore slump. A rookie year hardly worth mentioning has come to a close and somehow, that guy who was running midfield, the one posting about "his jubilation for cracking the top 10 tonight", well that guy is us and we somehow scrapped a ride together convincing some poor soul to give us another shot. And now you see us, we're just up the road ahead parking it at the apex to ruin your purple bedazzled flying lap. It's like a train wreck. It will be a disaster, but by golly, you can't look away.. because we're in your way. And unintentionally blocking now. And you certainly can't pass because you know the inevitable blind man's chop is coming. And so you wait and you listen, and THAT is Cafe Machina.

*We do talk about fun and helpful stuff so please give her a go. Indycar preview, driver development, overthrowing the hierarchy of traditional american motorsport marketing, it's all there. Rate it if you feel so compelled, rant at us PLEASE, we'll answer it on the show. We need the adversity in our lives. Subscribe on YouTube, follow us @cafemachina. Do all the things.

#12 - Suck Less, Think Better with Dr. Jacques Dallaire

#12 - Suck Less, Think Better with Dr. Jacques Dallaire

"Nobody in the history of performance based settings has ever said - I want to fail. I really want to suck at this, could you show me how to be worse than I already am?. The more we invest in understanding how we think, the more likely we are to control the way we think. And that has a huge impact on performance."
In this episode we were able to sit down with mental performance expert and author of Performance Thinking, Dr. Jacques Dallaire during the 12 hours of Sebring race event in Florida. Jacques has worked with drivers such as Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, and Helio Castroneves to name a few. If you are in a performance setting or better yet, a racing driver, looking to improve your mental game - this episode is for you. We were stoked to have the time with him. Highlighting a few topics, we covered:
* The Focus Paradox: “If you would just focus more!!”
* Your dominant thought shapes your reality. What’s yours?
* The crippling side effects of pursuing success: Fear of Failure
* Imagery, visualization, but better
We urge everyone to go check out Jacque’s website
www.performanceprime.com/ and buy his book. His strategies apply to many facets of life, even outside of racing, and I can’t say enough good things about his approach.
