The Magic of "What If?" | #51
How we've always thought about it: You can't teach an old dog new tricks, and your thoughts and beliefs are pretty static. But you CAN change your thoughts and believe in new possibilities. Reframing your thoughts is a practice, that requires practice! This episode first features a giant rant about the Supreme Court, and then we start talking about how to shift your self-belief from a self-sabotaging spiral to a more affirming thought that feels just as true and inspires you to take action. Using the phrase "What if" to help you examine the possibilities is a great tool to reframe a negative thought. Listen and learn!  You can get on my email list two ways! One, take the creative block quiz at bit.ly/CreativeBlockQuiz to receive tips on how to bust through your creative blocks. Or you can sign up to get a copy of my eBook, Achieve Your Dreams Without Burnout, at bit.ly/stopburnoutebook.  Remember to rate and review the show on iTunes/Apple podcast or leave a comment on CastBox! Rest: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly | #50
HAPPY 50TH EPISODE!!!!  Before we dive in I want to let you know that my dog, Gwendoline, was eating an envelope and is very loud toward the end of this episode. I edited out as much as I could! Please forgive her, she is new to podcasting.  OKAY Let's talk about rest! What we know about rest and why it's good: We need it to live! In this episode I offer tips and advice for setting yourself up for a restful bedtime and morning routine to help you de-stress and reduce anxiety as you're trying to wind down your brain for bed.  And then we talk about the fact that not everyone has the same access to rest and recovery, and this is what leads to burnout!  The ugliest part of rest? The fact that it's SO uncomfortable and often feels like a battle, and we try to rush it and get back to work thinking we rested long enough already. You probably need like 500x more rest than that.  Please make sure you are subscribed to my newsletter for a Monday morning motivational hug from my creative heart to yours. You can join the list two ways: Take the Creative Block Quiz at bit.ly/CreativeBlockQuiz or skip the quiz and get my free eBook chock full of brain-friendly goal setting and productivity tips to create a plan that's customized to your needs when it comes to getting shit done. You can get that eBook at bit.ly/stopburnoutebook.  Thanks to Leave Nelson B for music and Jen Hearn for photography!  See y'all next time!

There's No Deadline on Dreams | #49
How we've always thought about it: You need to go for your dreams "in your prime." When you're young and have the energy. Before you "settle down." Adults need to have serious careers. Or if you're creating something new and following a passion, you have to get it up and running FAST for it to be worthy.  But y'all. There's no deadline on your dreams and it takes as long as it takes to do without hustling. Pacing yourself means going as slow as you can while maintaining consistency, evaluating along the way, and being compassionate with yourself. All that stuff about getting it done fast is just thoughts.  The poem I read at the top of the episode can be found here: https://soulpassages.wordpress.com/2017/08/31/the-boat Don't miss my Monday newsletters! You'll receive a dose of Monday motivation and the occasional update about offers and events. Get on my list (and snag my free eBook) at bit.ly/stopburnoutebook. Hey y'all! This week we are talking about the non-negotiables in your life. And work, rest, and play. What are the MUSTS for your basic needs and boundaries? This could look like work hours, bedtime routines, limits around socializing, and more. Rest Before Productivity (GASP) | #47
Hey — you don't have to burn out in order to feel that you deserve to take it easy. (In fact, if you are burned out you probably feel guilty about it). In this episode I'm joined by my friend and client Abi, here to have a conversation about shifting her priorities from work work work to rest as a result of chronic illness. But even if you're not chronically ill, you need to rest way more than you already are.  My challenge to you in this episode: schedule rest and fun BEFORE productivity the next time you make your to-do list.  Catch Abi on Instagram @SkyeSimply or her blog SkyeSimply.com – or in the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Community on Facebook! How to Use Privilege to Disrupt the Patriarchy with Serena Hicks | #46
Y'all. Buckle up! We are talking privilege, power, and how to use yours to uplift others rather than hiding in it like boo hoo, I shouldn't tell my story. YES TELL YOUR STORY. AND ALSO PAVE THE WAY FOR OTHERS TO DO IT TOO. I'm here with my friend Serena Hicks, BIG Happy Money coach, to talk a little about money, a little about business, and a LOT about how to prove the possible and model empowerment and truth for everyone around you, in a love-led revolution.  You can find Serena at SerenaHicks.com, on instagram at instagram.com/xoxoserenahicks, and facebook at facebook.com/serenahicksaf  Check out the latest Run Like Hell Toward Happy offers to put what you're learning into action at runlikehelltowardhappy.com/offer and join the community at facebook.com/groups/runlikehelltowardhappy!  As always, thanks to Leave Nelson B for music and Jen Hearn for photography.

Less is Less, and That's Good | #44
We aren't learning how to stop hustling so we can be more productive in different ways or fit new things into the space left behind — we're doing it so we can actually, sustainably, do LESS. This episode is all about how to maintain the space you've created as you've unlearned the hustle, featuring a homework assignment to schedule yourself some rest and examine the thoughts that come up when you do so.  We also hear from Ash Powers, a client of mine who had to give up a really big goal — xer bachelor's degree — because of shifting priorities when COVID hit in 2020. Xe shares the story of deciding to quit school and allow the rest of life (being a parent, being creative, enjoying life) to take up the space it deserved. Also, Ash is a very colorful speaker and there are five bloopers at the end of this episode I hope you enjoy!  You can find Ash on Instagram @WitchyWatercolors, on TikTok @MassivePainInTheDeck, on Patreon @LovingSeaTarot (https://www.patreon.com/LovingSeaTarot) and SOON at ashesgrimoire.com.  As always thank you to Leave Nelson B for music and Jen Hearn for photography.  Take the Creative Block Quiz to discover your top block and get tips to break through it at bit.ly/CreativeBlockQuiz

Who Benefits From Your Doubts? | #43
The Belief: We must strive for perfection for our own self growth, so we burn out from trying to be and do everything that is expected of us. The Reality: Billionaires and industries profit off your doubts, fears, and insecurities and you can STOP giving in to their messaging and manipulations. It is an act of resistance to be your amazing self regardless of what other people think is normal or appropriate. In this episode we're tackling what it means to perform perfection and presentation in all aspects of life — home, work, even the grocery store.  This episode has a very special guest, my friend Sarah, who shares her story of anxiety and panic in the face of going back to the office. Not because of mask protocols or work stress, but because of her belief that she would need to spend hundreds of dollars on looking "professional" again (until she realized she didn't).  Check out Jodi-Ann Burey's TEDx Talk, "The myth of bringing your full, authentic self to work" here: https://www.ted.com/talks/jodi_ann_burey_the_myth_of_bringing_your_full_authentic_self_to_work/ Join the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Community on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/runlikehelltowardhappy Thank you to Leave Nelson B for music and Jen Hearn for photography!

Proud to Be a Quitter | #42
Quitting has a bad reputation, but it's a great skill to be able to walk away from things that no longer serve you. Whether it's quitting a job, quitting being a people pleaser, or simply unfollowing accounts on social media that make you feel bad, learning when to quit is an invaluable asset in your toolbox. This episode is all about why and how to call it quits — featuring an interview with JD Dharmasurya of the Our Front Porch podcast about her long and storied history of all the hobbies, projects, and businesses she's quit.  Check out JD's podcast group on Facebook to be notified when the season starts: https://www.facebook.com/groups/265620908999666 Join the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Community to win awesome prizes and join a community of creatives: facebook.com/groups/runlikehelltowardhappy Take the next step in your Run Like Hell Toward Happy journey with something awesome I made for you at runlikehelltowardhappy.com/offer  Thank you to Leave Nelson B for music and Jen Hearn for photography!

Why Do We Want to Be Normal? | #41
"Normal" is a red flag — it's code for the white, cis heteronormative, capitalist, ableist patriarchy in power. And this season of Run Like Hell Toward Happy is here to help you break up with normal and wake up to your wild, free, creative, freaky self in all your glorious magnificence. We are on a mission (you too, if you're listening!) to show the world what is possible when you let go of normal and breathe life into all the unique parts of yourself. Each time you step outside the box and put yourself first, it creates a ripple effect and models that possibility for every single person around you. The revolution begins now!  Please subscribe and review on iTunes or Castbox, and rate five stars on Spotify to help others find the show.  Join us in the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Community on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/runlikehelltowardhappy Thanks to Leave Nelson B for music and Jen Hearn for photography!

Season 4 Trailer!
Season four is coming soon!  Welcome to Run Like Hell Toward Happy SEASON FOUR, the podcast for overwhelmed creatives to stop hustling and finally create balance between work, life, play, and rest to work toward their dreams. This season is all about breaking the rules you’ve been taught about success, productivity, and your value to say NO THANKS to the status quo and finally design life on YOUR terms. I’m Caitlin Liz Fisher, a creativity coach, author, and creator of Passion Pacers, a program for creatives like you to learn how to STOP the hustle mentality and embrace their passions in a sustainable way. I’ve spent the last four years recovering from burnout, stepping fully into my power as a creator, and I have the absolute privilege to help others do the same. Each time in my life that I’ve felt the pull to walk away from something, it was because I finally heard the way my intuition was saying “NO.” Over time, I learned to listen to that voice in advance, when I could hear it say “Yes.” Now I’m teaching YOU how to do the same. In this season, you will learn how to work through all the bullshit you’ve learned from our hustle obsessed culture that stops you from going for your dreams. You know, deep down, what you want to do — so we’re going to find the confidence, boundaries, and balance to do it, without hustling and burning out. I am here to stop the status quo of “what we’re supposed to do” and fight back against hustle culture by embracing the power of creativity, rest, and what happens when people absolutely believe in themselves. This season will take you on a journey from unlearning the way it’s always been taught, teaching you to reframe your self-concept, and helping you embrace your inner creative. You’ll be hearing from real people just like you to see these shifts in action. If you’re ready to stop hustling and join this revolution against the status quo, make sure you hit that subscribe button to be the first to know when Season 4 starts! In the meantime, find me on Facebook in the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Community, where creative people just like you are already breaking the rules. F*ck Weight Loss Resolutions | #39
Hi there! You might think weight loss goals will help you be healthier — that is actually, factually false. This episode breaks down the silent, sneaky impact of diet culture and the lies we believe as pure fact. BMI is bullshit, diets never work, and "obesity" is not unhealthy. No matter what you think you know about weight and body goals, you'll learn something new in this one.  Catch up on all the F*ck New Years Resolution shows at runlikehelltowardhappy.com/fnyr! F*ck Money Resolutions | #38
Money is such a sticky subject! Our goals and resolutions around money tend to have morality lurking right behind them, suggesting that we're better people if we do XYZ with our funds. Not true!  This episode unpacks several New Years Resolutions around personal finance including paying off debt, getting a higher paying job, and cutting out "frivolous" spending. Just like we learned last week, it's important to examine the motivations behind the goal in order to create a sustainable action plan that's in line with your long term vision and isn't just an arbitrary New Year goal post.  Catch up on all the F*ck New Years Resolution shows at runlikehelltowardhappy.com/fnyr! Check out this episode and then come talk about it in the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Community on Facebook. Facebook.com/groups/runlikehelltowardhappy.  Also mentioned in the show: Episode 25, 7 Money Mindset Shifts — this episode helps unpack common money mindsets to shift your thinking into something way more inviting to that good good cash flow!  Thanks to Leave Nelson B for the use of his amazing music and to Jen Hearn for photography! F*ck Productivity Resolutions | #37
Are you a productivity resolution maker? Do you start each year with a fresh planner only to abandon it before the spring? Do you feel bad about yourself when your plan to bullet journal or learn the Pomodoro method goes awry?  This episode will help you say NO THANKS to the sneaky shame spiral of popular productivity resolutions and embrace a plan for truly achieving a goal that aligns with your long-term vision.  You'll learn four steps for setting a realistic goal: 1) Identify the REASON for the goal. 2) Set small 90 day goals. 3) Find an accountability method to check in. 4) Regularly assess and evaluate your progress.  This is only the beginning! This four part series on New Years Resolutions will allow you to reframe the most popular (and infamous) resolutions. Catch up on the entire series at runlikehelltowardhappy.com/fnyr. Are You Qualified? | #36
Are you qualified to do what you do? Whether you're an artist, writer, musician, or anything else, you likely have the belief that you need some type of official qualification that says you're good at what you do. But a lot of qualifications aren't necessary, they're just another way for us to feed the imposter syndrome lingering in our minds. You DON'T need a degree. You DON'T need to be a trained artist. You DON'T need 99% of the qualifications out there. Today's episode is about the mindset shift away from qualifications and toward experience and consistency.  Check out this episode and let me know what you think in the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Community on Facebook!  This is the last episode of Season 3, and I'll be back in January with a new season of Run Like Hell Toward Happy.  Thanks to Leave Nelson B for music and Jen Hearn for photography!

What Makes Us Worthy? | #35
Spoilers: You are worthy and deserving RIGHT NOW. Let's unpack the stories that came up in your head that make you want to argue with me when I say you're worthy and valuable today, just as you are, imperfections and all. Do we need to be perfect to be worthy? NO. Do we need to get everything right to be worthy? NO. This quick episode will help you rethink worthiness and start to consider that maybe you've got it deep down without needing to change a thing.  Music by Leave Nelson B. It's Not About the Money | #32
When are our money thoughts not really about the money? Perhaps more often than we think! In today's episode I'm talking about what's behind money goals: freedom, security, peace, lack of hustle, and more. I want you to get intentional about the WHY behind your income goals and also evaluate if you're using money goals to deny yourself having nice things now. You don't have to keep yourself in struggle mode! To wrap up, we're talking non-monetary currency and the ways we are rich in social support, time flexibility, and other ways that provide freedom and peace without cash.  PS. Passion Pacers enrollment for November is OPEN. We are an intentional community of creatives learning to balance work, life, play, and rest using a four part framework to work toward your passion without burnout. There's Never Any Time | #31
Do you believe that you've run out of time on your dreams, or that you don't have time to be creative or do things for yourself? This is the episode for you, because we are breaking down three major time mindsets: 1) It’s too late / you don’t have time to achieve a dream.  2) You must take the shortest time possible to reach a goal in order to be successful. 3) We all have "the same 24 hours in a day." AND as a special treat (because I needed more time, how appropriate), the Creativity Under Capitalism course now starts on November 8 so you can still sign up for three days of deep but digestible mindset work around your creativity and productivity. This episode is definitely more business focused but has gems of wisdom and new things to learn for everyone.  On the agenda:  What makes a business ethical? How can you shop ethically/sustainably? The Career vs. Self Care Dichotomy | #27
What is work life balance? Because if you're anything like me and my clients, you're doing about 3-4 times as many work tasks as you are doing things that prioritize YOU and your wellness. This episode dives right into the idea of work-life balance and how society tells us we need to choose between having a good career or having enough energy at the end of the day for self care. You can have both.  Remember to sign up for Creativity Under Capitalism, a free mini course going live in November! Capitalism is the Problem | #25
I'm back for season 3 of Run Like Hell Toward Happy, and this season is all about the ways capitalism has programmed us to think about money, self worth, the value of our labor (and which types of labor are valuable), and so much more.  In this intro episode I explore why we want to be liked by everyone and why it benefits us to be loud about our beliefs and attract those people who are weird and loud in our same ways. I also talk about what I got wrong in my book, The Gaslighting of the Millennial Generation, and I set the record straight about a few things.  Can't wait to dive in to the next season with you!  Important Links:  Find out more about the FREE Creativity Under Capitalism mini course at runlikehelltowardhappy.com/offer  Join the Facebook community where you can win prizes and get a daily dose of motivation at facebook.com/groups/runlikehelltowardhappy Music by Leave Nelson B, and photography by Jen Hearn

Level Up Your Creativity: Interview with Anne-Marie Lindsey | #24
Say hello to Anne-Marie Lindsey! She’s a talented artist and AWESOME stay at home mom, and she was our first giveaway winner. She’s on the show today to talk with me about the Level Up Framework and how taking the Level Up course has given her creative tools to work through mindset shifts as she processes her childhood trauma. A note, as always, I am not a licensed therapist or clinician and my teachings, memberships, and courses are not designed to diagnose or treat medical conditions. But most of us have trauma kicking around in our brains that stops us from going for our creative dreams because we think we’re not good enough, or it’s not a good use of our time, or some other thing that someone you trusted told you when you were young. Over the years, we lose touch with creativity. The Level Up course started as a trauma recovery course to approach trauma in a more creative way, with role playing game aspects to make your life more of a narrative you were in charge of, rather than something that just happened to you. Looking at life as a type of choose-your-own-adventure book can be very powerful! In its second iteration, Level Up incorporated more creative exercises, and now coming into its third version, it will focus more on creativity than trauma recovery. So Anne-Marie and I are talking about creativity, trauma recovery, and more! You can get on the waitlist for Level Up at criticalhitrecovery.com/course. ALSO: This is the last episode of Season 2! I will be back in October after a break and we'll get right back to balancing work, life, play, and rest.  Important Links: Passion Pacers: Visit PassionPacers.com for the scoop on this mentorship program if you're ready to put your learnings into action! We do talk a little about money in this interview, how charging Serious Prices gets you Serious Clients and more, but we're primarily focusing on the fact that it's possible to make decisions to follow your desire... before you have proof that it's going to work out.  There is so much power in our choices when we leave room for magic and miracles, as Serena says in the show.  You're going to LOVE this episode!  Find Serena online at SerenaHicks.com, on Instagram @xoxoSerenaHicks, and on Facebook at Facebook.com/SerenaHicksAF. Is That Your Responsibility? | #21
This episode builds on last week's show about comfort zones and the discomfort of growing beyond them. Sometimes that discomfort comes from outside influences rather than your own thoughts and beliefs. And when the doubts and fears are coming from outside you, it can be hard to know where your thoughts and beliefs end and those of the people around you begin. So this week we’re going to talk about how to tell the things that are your responsibility from the things that are other people’s responsibility. Also, excellent news! You can leave a NON-APPLE review for the show on the podcast app Castbox. Search for Run Like Hell Toward Happy and leave a comment on the show, screenshot your comment on Castbox, and enter your screenshot on the giveaway thread in the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Community on Facebook. How to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone | #20
What if your comfort zone wasn’t a big red circle that you pushed wider and wider? What if it was more like a cozy home where you did some DIY projects in one room at a time, made them livable, and then moved on and did something else in another area? This episode is all about expanding our comfort zones and what stops us from doing it in the first place. Facing the fear of failure, rejection, and shame keeps us hanging out in situations that are stagnant or even unhealthy, but I’ve got some tips to expand your comfort zone and try new things. Stepping outside your comfort zone is where GROWTH is. It’s where you learn how to cope with discomfort, which will help you in infinite life situations. But we don’t always have to be growing. It’s okay to stay cozy for a while so you can make your next move. But don’t let the fear stop you from ever growing! If fear of making a mistake keeps you from trying new things, revisit Episode 9: Perfectionism is the Enemy. Recovering from Gifted Kid Burnout | #19
How can you set boundaries with yourself (and others) so you don’t take on too much? Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you HAVE TO. In this episode, we’re unpacking what it means to be gifted and talented, from the selection process that identifies gifted students to the idea of your self concept as a gifted child through adulthood, and how to stop focusing so much on high achievement in order to feel valuable and good enough. You’re good enough! You don’t have to prove it or achieve it. You don’t have to achieve your dreams RIGHT NOW — it’s okay to pace yourself, make mistakes, and do things imperfectly. In this episode I talk about a great article from the Hechinger Report entitled, “Why decades of trying to end racial segregation in gifted education haven’t worked” and you can find that article here: https://hechingerreport.org/gifted-educations-race-problem/ I also refer back to Episode 11, How to Avoid Shiny Object Syndrome, which you can find here: https://anchor.fm/dashboard/episode/e10ccsc (or just scroll back and find it!) Balancing Illness with Business: Interview with Abi Nichols | #18
Today's episode is an interview with my Facebook community manager, coaching client, Passion Pacer, and long time friend Abi!  Abi is a fellow autistic, neurodiverse spoonie with fibromyalgia, ADHD, and a notebook for everything. So we're talking disability and chronic illness, self worth, and balancing productivity with rest and recovery.  She is a single mom of three... but also kind of five. She lives and co-parents with her roommate in an intentional platonic partnership, so we're talking about family, love, and feeling safe enough to ask for help in this episode too!  Catch Abi's updates on Instagram @SkyeSimply and @IntentionallyFamily.  Try the Harvest App, which Abi mentions in this episode, for time tracking, if that's useful for you! Estrangement: Can It Help You Reconnect with Yourself? Interview with Jess Reed | #17
Today's episode is a long one, but SO AMAZING! I have my sister Jess (they/them) on the show with me and we dig into our childhood experiences, what brought us to the choice of parental estrangement, and the ways we've reconnected with our intuitive, creative selves in the years since.  Trigger warnings: mentions of racism and homophobia, stories about emotional abuse and dissociation, sexual assault, death of a parent, and death of a pet. When the people in your closest relationships are telling you that your ideas aren’t good, or safe, or worth pursuing, that really puts a damper on your creative expression and your ability to try new things and push outside your comfort zone.  In this episode we talk about boundaries, childhood creativity, being adult children of abusive/toxic parents, and what estrangement MEANS for people who choose it. Spoilers: It's not a moral choice and isn't something you HAVE to do in order to heal.  Get last week's Anger workbook here! https://bit.ly/AccessAnger And I did make a blog post about books I recommend for trauma processing and healing childhood wounds, which are very helpful in the decision making process around estrangement. What’s Your Anger Language? | #16
What makes you angry? Sad? Scared?  We push "negative" feelings and thoughts away as a result of toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing. Learning to let these emotions happen as long as they need to happen takes getting used to but is so rewarding. You deserve to feel the full spectrum of your human emotions! This episode is all about how to let your anger have the space it needs to show you what's underneath so you can process deeper emotions like fear, grief, shame, and more. Anger often tries to protect us, but if we don't know how to express it in a healthy way we can push people away and hurt our relationships. I also made you a workbook about the 5 Anger Languages and journal prompts to help you work through anger and other negative emotions. Anger Doesn’t Lead to the Dark Side - Toxic Positivity Does | #15
First, a giveaway announcement! Congratulations to Anne-Marie, winner of our first review giveaway! Head over to the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Community to enter the giveaway and get the chance to win a signed book and free coaching session. The sooner you enter, the better your chances. What is Toxic Positivity? It’s when those good vibes and silver linings are forced upon you when you’re experiencing a tough situation. Rather than letting you feel your feelings and process your emotions on your own time, people tend to rush you along and gloss over the fact that life is hard sometimes. This episode helps you unpack toxic positivity and learn the power of feeling all those feelings instead of trying to positive-think them away. In this episode I make reference to Episode 4: The Law of Attraction Isn’t Always Right, for a deeper dive into spiritual bypassing in the Law of Attraction. Check it out if you haven’t listened yet! Forgiveness: Is It Necessary? | #14
"Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die." - The Buddha  But do we have to forgive in order to heal and move on from harm? I don't think we do.  This episode is all about CHOOSING from a place of EMPOWERMENT whether or not to forgive someone for harm done. Because that's up to you and it's not about them! You can heal and be happy with or without forgiving, and either option can be a valid choice in your process. If you do forgive, don't forget. Forgetting means you won't notice patterns of harm that continue over time.  What about when it comes to forgiving YOURSELF for not being your best self in the past? We're talking about that too! How can self-forgiveness help set you free from negative beliefs that you don't deserve your success or happiness because of a past mistake?  Important Links: Put your dream on your schedule without guilt in my mentorship group, Passion Pacers (PassionPacers.com) Get your copy of my free Ebook, "Achieve Your Dreams Without Burnout," at bit.ly/stopburnoutebook  Join the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Facebook Community to enter the giveaway for FREE COACHING and more!  Music by Leave Nelson B Photography by Jen Hearn Follow Caitlin Liz Fisher on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter

How to Hold Yourself Accountable | #13
We're back for season two of Run Like Hell Toward Happy! HUGE THANKS to everyone who has listened, subscribed, and left reviews. Remember that there's a giveaway for reviewers in my Facebook group. Join the group for the details!  In this episode we’re going to talk about accountability and followthrough… but also giving yourself grace and knowing when to dial back and work on reducing that hustle mentality. By the end of this episode you will understand how to balance self forgiveness with actual accountability to the goals you set. As you're learning to hold yourself accountable, there's a lot of trial and error. For the first ninety days working toward a new goal, give yourself grace to find the balance between work, life, play, and rest. And give yourself plenty of time and space to unpack the mindset blocks that are getting in the way of your success — like self sabotage, imposter syndrome, and hustle culture.  Listen to this episode to find out more about my three questions to ask yourself when deciding between grace and accountability:  How long have you been working on this goal? How do you feel in your body? Is this a pattern?  If you get distracted by your new ideas and abandon the things you're working on, listen to How to Avoid Shiny Object Syndrome.  For tips on busting imposter syndrome and more, grab my free eBook, Achieve Your Goals Without Burnout. How to Make Any Criticism Constructive | #12
Criticism sucks. But we can learn from it and learn to treat it as neutral or even positive with these three questions. One - is it true, and is your interpretation true? Two - is it something you need to change? Three - can you learn from it? Check out this bonus episode for some examples of how to apply these questions to make any criticism constructive. (And which criticism you can safely ignore).  Important Links: FREE Burnout Breakthrough Webinar: bit.ly/stopburnoutwebinar Join the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Facebook Community Music by Leave Nelson B Photography by Jen Hearn Follow Caitlin Liz Fisher on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter

How to Avoid Shiny Object Syndrome | #11
When you're working on your primary goal, project, or focus, it's inevitable that some new idea comes to mind and distracts you. You have a choice... follow the shiny object down a path of abandoned projects, or stay the course and ignore the promise of the shiny thing. What if there was a middle ground? Make a shiny object list! In this episode I teach you how to honor your brilliant new ideas without losing steam on your main goal.  Check out my Shiny Object List blog for screenshots of how I organize my Shiny Object List in Trello.  Important Links: FREE Burnout Breakthrough Webinar: bit.ly/stopburnoutwebinar Join the Run Like Hell Toward Happy Facebook Community Music by Leave Nelson B Photography by Jen Hearn Follow Caitlin Liz Fisher on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter

How to Kick Imposter Syndrome in the Face | #10
Imposter syndrome is the NUMBER ONE mindset shift I work on with my clients. I work with writers, business owners, and content creators who all worry that their work isn't worth the time and effort because they're never going to be truly good at their craft. Imposter syndrome is that thing that says "Who do you think you are? Why does YOUR voice matter here? Others are doing it better. You don't belong here. Just stop."  I want you to tell that Imposter to shut up and get out of your way. Here's how we're going to do that. 1) Look for the evidence of your success. How have you already succeeded at the thing you're going for? For example, when I feel like I'm not a real writer (whatever that means), I have to admit the fact that I have a book published and I've been paid for my writing and I got As on my papers in school and wrote for my college newspaper, and and and... What is YOUR evidence that you're good at YOUR thing?  2) Find the fear under the self doubt. There's always something deeper underneath the Imposter, usually based in fear. For me, it's a fear of being publicly criticized for my writing. This goes back to the perfectionism problem, the idea that if I write the perfect, non-offensive-to-everyone article, or book, or whatever, that everyone will love it because it's perfect and nothing bad will happen and no one will be mean to me on the internet. But I wrote an imperfect book, and there are bad reviews out there from people who didn't like it, and I have survived. What danger is your Imposter Syndrome trying to protect you from? How can you give that fear space and process it? 3) Find your people. Self-validation is extremely important, but having a supportive circle around you is also important and very affirming. There are people out there who will root for you and believe in your work, no matter how long it takes you to reach your goal. And you find these people not by being perfect and making yourself palatable for everyone but by being yourself turned up to 11 and running like hell toward YOUR happy. 4)Revisit your evidence frequently, because the Imposter will be back! But you will gain confidence the more you continue forward in your goals. Perfectionism is the Enemy | #9
Raise your hand (metaphorically) if you're the type of person who gives up when they don't get something done right on the first try — it's pretty common, and it's from a perfectionistic mindset. We WANT to be good at things, and we see a TON of talented, creative people's work online all day via social media, so we hold ourselves to these standards without realizing that we don't see the years of practice it took people to get as good as they are. But here's the thing: You have to START in order to improve. If you put your passion on pause in order to get it absolutely perfectly right, you will be waiting forever and never feel ready, so I challenge you to just get out there and publish your first bad video, launch your first bad podcast, write the first draft of your book that WILL need editing and revisions, and accept that if it's worth doing right, it's worth doing poorly at first while you learn. Perfectionism is actually your enemy and will keep you paralyzed with fear until you accept that done is better than perfect, and perfect isn't even real. Get started learning a new skill, and expect to not get it perfect the first time. Here are some resources I mentioned in this episode:  Lynda.com (now LinkedIn Learning) is often available for free through your library. How to Avoid and Recover from Burnout | #8
We are all more burned out than we even realize. Let's talk about that! From the mental load of household responsibilities to keeping up with a full time job that may or may not treat you more like a cog than a person, you have a lot going on. This episode will help you balance rest, creativity, and life's responsibilities.  Burnout happens when our outputs (responsibilities, work, kids, balancing the budget, etc) exceed our inputs (self care, rest, creativity, play) for an extended period of time. You need to REST - truly rest - in order to recover, and that is not always possible. As much as possible, build in time to give yourself those self care inputs, outsource whatever you can, and ask those in your circle to share the responsibility as evenly as possible. My first step with clients is to evaluate their schedule and their goals to make sure it all makes sense and won't burn them out — and then we have to work on the mindset that pacing yourself to work sustainably toward your goals is okay and that you don't have to do it all perfectly in order to succeed. In this episode I talk about the mental load of household labor, and here's a great comic about it that goes into deeper detail about the effects of this disparity (it's definitely heteronormative but very informational and relatable!) What We Get Wrong About SMART Goals | #7
We think setting goals is easy: they should be SMART! Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound. But we tend to just focus on time bound and think we're total failures if we don't achieve the goal in the allotted time. Goals are made up! You can adjust them as you go and get data about what you need to achieve them, including more time or changing the measure of your success. In this episode we talk about how to adjust your approach to goal setting so you can avoid negative beliefs about yourself when you miss the mark.  Important Links: FREE Burnout Breakthrough Webinar: bit.ly/stopburnoutwebinar. How to Connect With Your Inner Voice | #6
In this episode we talk about the best ways to access your inner voice or your intuition, including meditation, divination, journaling, and other mindfulness techniques. Often when we let the surface level thoughts on our mind drift away we can follow their threads toward deeper understanding of our needs and desires.  In this episode I talk about Apology Languages; you can find a quiz to find out your apology language here.  Try looking up guided meditations on YouTube, such as this 7 minute meditation for creativity by Bob Baker. Balancing Self Care and Self Improvement | #5
You know deep down what you want out of your life. You can hear the little voice saying "no, not this" even if you don't know what to do about it. My job as a coach is to help you find out what makes the little voice say "yes!" It may seem counterintuitive, but I'm not always pushing my clients to rack up achievements and cross things off their to-do list. First, we work on mindset and self care — because if you burn out, I'm not doing my job to help you balance your goals with your life.  In this episode I explain the pillars of my coaching practice: Self improvement (goal setting, confidence, productivity), self care (recovering from burnout, rest, mind-body-spirit), mental health (including neurodivergence), relationships (boundary setting, communication, and being willing to ask for help), and social justice (being aware of the structures and systems that pose challenges to your success). Here's an article about the study I referenced about the rates at which men and women apply to jobs — there's more to it!  Important Links: FREE Burnout Breakthrough Webinar: bit.ly/stopburnoutwebinar. The Law of Attraction Isn't Always Right | #4
I love the idea of the Law of Attraction, that you can manifest the things you truly believe are coming to you. It's a beautiful way to develop confidence in yourself and start believing that better things are coming and that you are capable of achieving more. What's NOT cool about the law of attraction is how some people use it to victim blame. Being "low vibe" or not believing in yourself is NOT a legitimate circumstance to place blame for poverty, illness, oppression, or abuse. The system is designed for us to be tired and broke. It is a revolution for us to believe that we deserve more than that.  Important Links: FREE Burnout Breakthrough Webinar: bit.ly/stopburnoutwebinar. Motivation is NOT Like a Muffin | #3
CW: Eating disorder, diet culture, weight loss  I love personal development books about business, confidence, motivation, everything — but one thing I hate about them is that they almost always end up making a reference to dieting when they're trying to make a point about consistent habits. When I started recovery from ED I started seeing how pervasive diet culture messages are everywhere. They're on TV, in books, even in self help books that have nothing to do with food or dieting or health. For this reason, I will never compare motivation or habit building to food, dieting, or exercise. Dieting and mindset work are NOT the same thing.  Check out Caroline Dooner's The Fuck It Diet, if you have a body and/or eat food.
