Episode 9 - It's time to stop numbing!

Episode 9 - It's time to stop numbing!

Perhaps like me, as your emotional discomfort has  increased over the last few years, your coping mechanisms may not have. If you look back - I have no doubt that one day over the past couple years, you instinctively reached into your resilience bucket hoping to pull out your next best coping-mechanism, only to find that you'd reach the bottom of the bucket. Friend, it was likely then, that your scales tipped! What does one do when your emotional instability or your emotional distress is matched with a resilience bucket that has no coping mechanism left inside of it, to fulfill or meet your needs? You do what every person in the history of the world has learnt to do, you buy into the premise that if you simply don’t feel anything at all any longer well then surely you’ve tackled this dilemma. It’s your safest option, your quickest fix, your strongest Band-Aid. You embrace ‘numbing’.

I'm here today to share that NUMBING isn't just preventing pain, it's preventing JOY too. Hear me out :)

Episode 6 - It's time to get vulnerable!

Episode 6 - It's time to get vulnerable!

Today on Girl, it's Time, Caitlyn chats to Fran Steart. Fran is a local KZN dietician, wife and mom.
Frans heart wrenching story touched Caitlyn so deeply at a recent event where they were both speakers. In todays episode, Fran tells her story. She shares her story- raw and real. She shares of her beautiful, deep faith, she shares of learning to let go of dreams once real but too of what it looked like when those dreams were reignited in her heart. This episode will move you. We have no doubt. We have chosen to leave the episode unedited as we believe that Frans raw emotion is such a big part of her story of embracing vulnerability. No, the type we share after we've conquered a battle and come out on the other side. The real hard stuff. Sharing raw emotion, deep pain and utter despair, even while we're still in it.
May her story touch your heart as it has ours.

If anyone would like to get in touch with Fran for support or to invite her to share her story at an event/online platform, you are welcome to email her at fransteartdietitian@gmail.com.

Episode 5 - It's time to own your story!

Episode 5 - It's time to own your story!

There are moments that each of us know will stick with us for a long long time. Meeting Jodi Kroone was one of those for me.

Jodie is a beautiful 28 year old, who is wheelchair bound due to a car accident that happened 5 years ago. And yet despite her obvious discomfort and the challenges that each day holds for her, she embraces life like few I know.

In this episode, Caitlyn (me) and Jodie have an honest conversation about her journey in owning her story, tell it, and embracing it. It's an episode that I know that you'll love and want to share with everyone you know. She is one incredible girl and inspires us to live fully here in the now, despite discomfort or uncertainty. It's beautiful!!

Jodi - You are nothing short of inspirational. You challenge me to my core to live my life on purpose each day. Thank you for the gift that you are!

It's time to see with new eyes!

It's time to see with new eyes!

Caitlyn preaches regularly and for this episode, she decided to share one of her latest preaches with you. So bare with her, as live one was obviously live. Caitlyn speaks into the space of 'How one can starting noticing & acting on the opportunities that God presents us with everyday, to shine His light in this world.'

This episode is packed with truth, laughs, stories and depth. Here's a nugget from this episode to get you thinking... 'You cannot hide from the sun to escape darkness.. YET how many of us are doing just this? We're living busier lives in order to avoid the obvious darkness around us.'

Episode 3 - It's time to trust God, with Natasja Foster

Episode 3 - It's time to trust God, with Natasja Foster

This Interview with Natasja Foster will leave you inspired to your core. Tash's story begins with her sharing of her venturing into Africa and living with a poor Malawian family, on a mission trip.. but it was the head of this Malawian family's response to Tash's question "How can people back home help you?" that opened up the call God was stirring in her heart.

I have been deeply and profoundly challenged by Tash's sorry and the question as to what fruit God will produce in us, if only we'll TRUST HIM. I'm trusting that you will be too!!

Here is a direct link to Bibles Beyond Borders for those who's hearts were stirred and want to get involved in this incredible ministry.

S3: Episode 2 - Its time to zone in on what makes you come alive

S3: Episode 2 - Its time to zone in on what makes you come alive

Doctor Rosanne Symons is a mom of 5 teenagers and a medical doctor based in Durban, South Africa. I had the honour of hearing her story at a recent conference and it spoke to me so deeply that I couldn’t but ask her to share it with my audience.

Friends, this incredible woman felt the call of God to the Syrian nation, and her first trip to this land was during their war. She treated broken bodies and crushed spirits there 10 years ago, and has since been on a number of trips back to the surrounding countries (as the Syrian borders have since remained closed) to minister love to these war-stricken souls.

I encourage you to listen right until the end of this episode as her words not only inspire you but too minister to your heart about what it is that God is calling you to, and how to figure out what it is that makes YOU come alive, too.

And then, lastly, Rose is off to Syria-itself next month for the first time since her very first trip, as the borders have recently reopened due to their latest earthquake and the medical needs of its people. I know that she would NEVER ask this, and yet I too know that she self-funds these trips and that whilst many of us don’t feel called to the ‘mission field’ itself, we do feel called to financially contribute towards the lives and trips of those God is calling there. If this is you and you’d like to be a part of getting Rose to Syria, my account details are below for the Foundation I run.

S2: Episode 6 - Pray and then Walk out on the Water

S2: Episode 6 - Pray and then Walk out on the Water

To Walk out on the Water takes faith but many of us may be jumping too quickly to do those BIG things that we feel called to. When we look at the life of Jesus, we see that He priorities intimate times with the Lord far above what He places on the life He lives on earth. Today Caitlyn shares with you the sermon she just did at Olive Tree Church in Kloof, where she preached on the topic Pray, and then walk out on water.

S2: Episode 5 - Keep Hope Alive

S2: Episode 5 - Keep Hope Alive

Faith doesn't exclude us from suffering. Rather, it, along with time spent with our Father, equips us to face the storms that lie ahead of us. Hope on the other hand is so difficult to cling to when our circumstances don't speak to an end result that we long for. In today's episode, Caitlyn chats to Jaci Mun- Gavin, a local speaker, pastor and author. Jaci shares her heart-wrenching story and how God gave her a message of hope to cling to despite her circumstances. It is a beautiful episode that will no doubt have you in tears but too one that challenges each of us on a deep level, and reminds us of the eternal hope we have in Jesus.

S2: Episode 4 - Start somewhere

S2: Episode 4 - Start somewhere

Procrastination, the art of putting things off until a later date or even shelving ideas and dreams. I personally feel that the timing for this interview with pastor and speaker, Ang Keyter, couldn't be better. Many of us find ourselves exiting a world that was locked down and yet still we can't find it in ourselves to start new ventures, to dream new dreams, to un-shelf that which we've buried. Today Ang shares with us her personal experience with procrastination, what God has placed on her heart around why we park in a space of procrastination and how we can move out this space whilst still guarding our capacity.

Episode 2 - Where is my shield?

Episode 2 - Where is my shield?

We all have bad days, days when we doubt ourselves, our purpose and our worth. After reading a blog post by Laiela describing such a day, after which making the statement, 'I reminded myself that I have a shield that protects me from such darts… did I leave it behind somewhere?', I knew I had to get her onto this podcast channel. Today Laeila and I chat about the personal darts that have been fired at each of us recently, by the enemy, and how the need for a shield is every present. Laiela goes on to share with us some biblical background on shields and how this simple piece of scripture is in fact far more powerful than we may have previously realised.

S2: Episode 1 - Vague Goals & why that's okay

S2: Episode 1 - Vague Goals & why that's okay

Life can often feel like one long train ride. Over the mountain tops and through the valleys we go, sometimes off course and then back again but in the end in each season of life we live and we learn and we come out better. Mordecai urges Esther in Esther 4: 13 - 14 “… who knows, if it is for a time like this that you have become queen?”

Today I chat through this scripture and how time and time again I've felt like my life and career have been for such a time as this; only for the season to pass and a valley to follow. I go on to share 3 points on this topic of vague goals and how our lifelong journey matters more than we think.

Episode 61: Raising resilient kids

Episode 61: Raising resilient kids

Are we raising resilient kids or are we their resilience? This question hit me like a ton of bricks as I had a conversation with my daughter today around tough emotions. It's so much easier as parents, and well anyone really, to numb our emotions, to criticise emotional outbursts or to control in an attempt to feel okay...but is this really what we want to teach our kids?

I also share the launch of my book and a few discount codes for those who order during pre-orders which close mid November.

Episode 60 - Pain into Purpose

Episode 60 - Pain into Purpose

I recently watched a short film on Debbie Ivins' story and it had me sobbing. I always thought that we cling to hope as we believe that eventually things will work out the way we want them to. Debbie's story is one of turning pain into purpose. Of hoping despite no earthly answers to her longings. It is powerful and moving, and I have no doubt will challenge your faith and hope, as it has me, on a deep and beautiful level.
