Dale Majors started a business in his teens, and on returning from a two-year stint as a missionary for his church, at 21 he decided to go full steam ahead. He took his passion and knowledge about biking with him to form Bikewagon.com, running it out of his garage and even partnered with his father in his new business. What a great son!

Dale built his bikewagon.com ecommerce business to over $10 million in annual revenue with a staff of 28. They had over 16,000 unique items stocked in their warehouse in Salt Lake City.

Dale’s love of spending time with his family and biking haven’t changed. He and his wife Brittany have taken their 5 children on extended bicycle tours throughout the US and abroad, including spending 2 months riding 1,000 miles across France and Germany.

Dale sold  Bikewagon.com in 2016, allowing him to retire in his early 30’s! Dale sends his time now coaching entrepreneurs and helping them gain more freedom from their businesses to pass on his own successes. He’s created a 4 month long mastermind group Ventureanyway.com to guide entrepreneurs through the process. He’s also acquired and runs a new business; it sure is hard for entrepreneurs to retire!

Between the Mastermind group, a travel products company Grand Trunk, a podcast, his YouTube channel directed towards entrepreneurs, and investments in several physical product companies, Dale does a lot and gives back even more. Don't miss listening and learning from Dale's incredible journey!

My guest, Micah Hollingworth, is the CEO and Co-founder of the New York, NY-based startup, Broadw.ai. His company, which is already post-funding, is the leading AI platform solution for Broadway shows and other audience-based venues, which improves the visitor experience and provides a more seamless ticket purchasing process for its guests.

Micah Hollingworth comes to his startup with a quarter of a century experience in Broadway, understanding the big picture, but also the specifics and nuances to make an AI company working principally with Broadway successful. His brilliant co-founder, Jon Scott, brings the technical side of the equation, which as you know is a potent formula for success.

Micah shared with me how he deals with the challenges brought by COVID-19, from the strategies going forward, the day-to-day company management, the remote work experience and how he keeps his team going.

Great interview, and great advice for startup entrepreneurs navigating today’s waters!

Interview with Ken Suzan and Rolf Claessen: Ken and Rolf are the dynamic duo of IP podcasting.

They're both outstanding IP lawyers in their own right. Ken practices at Barnes & Thornberg, where his focus is in trademarks, copyrights, social media and drone law. Rolf practices at Freischem & Partner, and bringing a PhD in chemistry he focuses in patent and trademark prosecution and litigation.

But these longtime friends in May of 2014 started the IPFridays podcast (ipfridays.com), and they haven't looked back. They've grown their IPFridays podcast to a must listen for professionals in the IP field, and, full disclosure, I've been honored to appear as a guest of theirs in 2019.

Since they conduct their interviews separately, I was really excited to interview both of them together, to get a candid, interactive listen about how they work together, how their podcast came into being, what challenges they've faced and overcome, how they've kept their popcast going, how they've picked their guests, how to keep focus on their listeners with guests to make sure it's not just a marketing platform, and lots more!

This is really terrific advice for any entrepreneur who wants to start a podcast -- especially if they're going for a niche market. Great going guys!

Interview with Shaker Gilbert: For many years, David Shaker Gilbert has worked as a senior-level professional in the tech industry, working in roles such as tech architect, VP of technology, consultant, senior engineer, enterprise architect and cloud solutions architect in some of the leading firms, including Exodus Communications, Sybase, Nfire, 3PAR, Docker, HP and Red Hat.

Shaker approached me about an invention he had in 2018, which is a device that holds a cell phone on any mode of transportation, and I thought it had huge potential. We’ve now got Shaker patent-pending, and he’s developed a company VuWing around his invention.

What I love about David is how strategic and systematic he is in developing his product and exploring the required skillets for his company, including manufacturing, operations, investment and marketing.

This was a great talk, because there was genuine advice. We discussed the pluses and frankly many huge minuses of funding platforms (such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo), the value of using search engine or social media advertising, and, hint hint, we both agreed that Facebook was the most focused and value-added of the lot, and found the rest to complicated plus too expensive for startups. We also discussed the effect of COVID-19 on business.

Shaker’s walking the walk, and he’s being incredibly generous in sharing what works and what doesn’t with new entrepreneurs. Delightful time!

Richard Friesen is the definition of a Renaissance Man. We talk about his early roots developing his own business to working as a trader following college (a philosophy major), where he worked at the Chicago Board of Trade, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Pacific Exchange, where he’s on the board of directors.

Then Rich founded his own trading firm, where he had an epiphany, and discovered that he was locked into his current earnings by his own internal beliefs. And conquering his own psyche allowed him to make a ton of more money.

But that wasn’t enough for him. With his new discovery, he went onto found a financial software company, which allowed enormous financial growth for himself. He’s the inventor of 10 significant trading interface patents.

But even that wasn’t enough for him. Rich wanted to share his discovery and his own success with others. He then combined a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology with certification in Neurolinguistic Programming. And he founded Mind Muscles, which uses neuroscience to help traders break through their internal barriers to achieve enormous financial success.

I promise you will love my conversation with Rich Friesen.

Interview with Monick Halm:   I really enjoyed my talk with Monick.

Monick (pronounced “Monique”) is a multi-faceted entrepreneur. After an Ivy League law school education placed her in a leading firm, she found herself having done all the right things but still truly unhappy. And after some real challenges -- and it’s hard not to be motivated once you hear her story of overcoming them -- she pivoted to entrepreneurship in real estate. And as the saying goes, she never looked back.

She’s currently an investor with a 14-year track record, as well as syndicator and developer, in numerous ventures, such as multi-family, mobile home parks, RV parks, flipping, commercial, vacation rentals, syndication, and ground-up development. Together with her husband Peter Halm and her investors, Monick owns over 1300 rental units across 6 states! Truly an amazing accomplishment.

Monick is also an educator and advocate for women to create real wealth through real estate. She founded Real Estate Investor Goddesses with just that vision. And she’s the best-selling author of The Real Estate Investor Goddess Handbook and Wealth for Women: Conversations with the Team That Creates the Dream. When she’s not doing all of that, she’s a mentor, contributing author for Huffington Post and keynote speaker.

A truly inspiring story, and Monick makes it all look easy!

Danielle Roberts is an entrepreneur who in 2005 founded Boomer Benefits, a national agency specializing in Medicare-related insurance products.

She's got a remarkable story!

Her company is nationally prominent, serving thousands of Medigap policyholders in 48 states. As she discussed with me, she found a market with enormous future growth and without any previous experience in this field, she made it all happen.

Key to her strategy has been educating the public about Medicare through an enormous social media presence, which she continues to grow. With all that free education and positive energy, when folks are looking to cover their gap in coverage, guess who they turn to? Danielle also brought her brother David onboard early-on, who's got his own impressive expertise in finance and accentuates growth.

I got the feeling from speaking with Danielle that the two of them complement each other incredibly well. Bring in talent (you can't do it all yourself), work with people you know and trust,  and complement your own expertise - listen up future business owners!

Another great interview with a self-made entrepreneur makes for valuable lessons for all of us!

COVID 19 is the new foe, and it’s particularly impactful of those of us with more years in the workplace. Employers will be hard-pressed to keep on people over aged 45. But is entrepreneurship a viable option for the $100 million Americans in this age group?

Enter Rick Terrien. A lifelong entrepreneur, Rick has written Ageless Startup: Start a Business at Any Age. You see, 1/2 of startups today are founded by people aged 45 – 64, and the biggest growth is for 55 – 64-year-olds.

Having achieved many of his own successes, Rick is looking to transition the over 45 to start their own businesses. This is especially timely with COVID 19 pressures for this age group.

And Rick has enormous credibility as a lifelong entrepreneur. In fact, before personal computers were widespread, Rick’s startup hacked ink chemistry to produce custom banners. Talk about successful. His customers included 75% of the Fortune 500 in the U.S., most colleges and universities, United Way and all the major non-profits!

Possessing subject matter expertise in regional food systems, today Rick leads startup activities in the food space.

Rick’s also very excited about his recent incubation activities for the over-45. At  - Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, the Sustainable Enterprise Accelerator is starting a Center for Ageless Entrepreneurs, and Rick is leading the charge. Let’s wish Rick well in this incredibly important new venture, and help if we can!

What a great way to connect and help new entrepreneurs starting as their second career, and say bye-bye to ageism!

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to grow up and prosper among people and in a country built on entrepreneurism. I have to add that I also wanted resources available to my clients. Especially folks who are doing new ventures, startups & going out on their own for the first time. When they come to me, I know with all immodesty that they’re getting great legal services. But we all need more. I want to make sure that they’re also getting the business advice and networking to get them there, to be on their way."
