Housing First: Are we one step closer to ending homelessness?
Welcome to the latest episode of CT Brief, Honest Conversations. This episode complements our latest CT Brief, digital publication, focusing on health, care and support issues, which is now live on our website!
In this episode, CT Directors, Liz Zacharias, who leads on our Health, Care and Support work, and Catherine Little, whose work includes, governance, regulation and risk, here to discuss Housing First and CT’s work evaluating two of the national pilots.
Housing First is a policy that offers unconditional, permanent housing as quickly as possible to homeless people and rough sleepers with complex needs. It’s based on the view that a foundation of housing stability will better enable people to address their often-complex support needs.
In 2018 the Government launched three national pilots for Housing First in England, these are now being evaluated by the Government, with final reports due at the end of 2024.
Campbell Tickell was commissioned by two of the three national pilots to carry out local evaluations to see what lessons could be learned and applied to the pilots. We carried out the local evaluations for the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA).
In this podcast episode Catherine and Liz will discuss some of the key findings from our evaluations and what the main hurdles are to Housing First being adopted at a national level, plus their insights into Housing First as a model generally.
We hope you enjoy.
