Using data-driven measures to manage COVID-19

Using data-driven measures to manage COVID-19

As vaccines and effective treatment are continuously under development, governments, private organizations, and scientific institutions develop data-driven programs as an option to mitigate the impact of the pandemic. Is it possible to use mobile apps and data-measures to end the pandemic locally or by nation? What are the consequences in terms of privacy and legislation for citizens and companies? In this episode we will be joined by two scientists who recently researched the developments on these Data-driven-measures to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and digital vaccination passports: Dr. Oskar Gstrein, Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen, Campus Fryslân Data Research Centre and Taís Blauth, PHD candidate with focus on Artificial Intelligence and International Relations. Join us for another episode of GlobalCast

'CANCER PATIENT DURING COVID-19'

How did covid-19 affect our day to day life across the globe, across the population groups, and across the social strata?

We are Lina, Roel, Sophie and Anniek and we have created a podcast as a part of our Global Health course. The goal of our podcast was to create understanding and highlight the perspective of people that deal with cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic. We tried to get a sense of whether cancer patients are specifically affected by the corona crisis and to what extent the feeling of abandonment lives. Is there still enough attention for cancer patients during the ongoing crisis? In order to gain more insight into these topics, we conducted an interview with someone who has recently battled cancer and combined this with interesting discussions

'PREGNANCY DURING COVID-19'

How did covid-19 affect our day to day life across the globe, across the population groups, and across the social strata?

In honour of Mother’s Day, today's hosts Linde Lokin and Giovanni Bergamini talked about pregnancy, giving birth and the post-partum period during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands. In order to have a thorough picture of what it is like living and working with such vulnerable parts of our society Linde and Giovanni interviewed a new mother in our community - - Berfu, as well as new parents from other parts of the Netherlands - Stijn and Inge. They shared their unique, but at the same time similar experiences of becoming new parents, thoughts about motherhood in such uncertain times, and of course their new-found respect for the medical workers. Moreover, another guest was a local midwife, Martha, who talked about her experience as a medical professional and her work during COVID-19. She shared some interesting insights about pregnancy, loneliness and fears that might occur during these times.

Quarantine has a wide range of effects where the consequences are found in a variety of different dimensions. To shed more light on this situation we interviewed psychologist Lauren Gaspar from the State of Texas about mental health during quarantine. In this podcast we delve into topics ranging from the importance of keeping yourself hydrated to the role of social media as a community of normalcy, among a variety of other interesting topics.
