From being a 10 year old with thick glasses, curly hair, and no hand-eye coordination, to being the Canadian record holder in the 10k race walk, Evan has become the best at something he loves to do. Over time, he grasped onto the idea that the process and journey outweighs the rules, and that sport is a safe and unique environment to all.

Hayato Sato

Hayato Sato has been involved with the sport of curling for more than eight years beginning in his hometown of Coquitlam, BC. Growing up, he saw his brother curling and watched him play the sport at a high enough level to travel all across BC competing in various events. This got Hayato interested in curling and he decided to give it a try. He became a member of the Coquitlam Curling Club, where he was able to meet various athletes, coaches, and parents who all loved the sport.

Recently, Hayato skipped his team to a Gold Medal at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer. Listen as he discusses his experience at the Games and the development road that led him to this extraordinary result.

Celina Toth

Celina Toth

Celina Toth began diving at the age of 12 after retiring from gymnastics. Her transition from one sport to the next occurred in only a handful of days as she quickly found herself at the pool five days a week.

A national team member for the last decade, Celina won her first international medal in 2015 when she finished 3rd in the 10m at the FINA Grand Prix in Madrid. Since then, the Ontario native contributed to qualifying a second Rio 2016 Olympic berth for the Canada, and more recently, Celina won her first International event in Germany.

In this athlete interview, Celina opens up about her experience as an athlete in a judging sport: battling with body image, mental health issues, and seeking support from external sources as well as internal reflecting and self improvement techniques. Harry Jones

Harry Jones plays for the National Men's Rugby 7s team. Amongst his numerous accomplishments, he captained Canada’s team at the 2009 IRB Junior World Championship in Japan, competed for Canada at the Under-17 and Under-19 levels, all while also playing in the Canadian Rugby Championship for the BC Bears. Currently, Harry and the National Men's Rugby 7s team are currently training for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In this athlete interview, Harry discusses being in a leadership position on a high performance team, the balances of being an athlete while thinking about his future after sport, and what it’s like battling with injuries during season and overcoming not only the physical aspect of being injured but the mental battle too.

Riley Pickrell

Riley Pickrell

Riley Pickrell, a track and road cyclist based in Victoria BC, is a high school student in the CSI Pacific Canadian Sport School program.

Over the past four years, Riley has competed in five age group National Championships winning a total of 36 medals on the road and track. This past summer, Riley competed at the Tour De L'Abitibi, a Junior World Cup Stage Race and the Junior Track Cycling World Championships. At the Tour De L'Abitibi, Riley competed for Team Canada winning three stages and placing on two additional podiums. A month later at Junior Worlds, Riley finished the Scratch race in 4th place.

Riley shares his ideologies on school balance, the training and social benefits of the Canadian Sport School, an individual’s "happy place", and the personal gains found from selfless training.

Brittany Waters

One of the best ways to learn in sport is to hear the stories and lessons from the athletes that came before. Brittany Waters represented Canada over a ten year career on both the Women's National Rugby 15's and 7's teams, bringing home World Cup silver medals in each event.
