Sessions by The H(e)rblife - Take the Reigns Ladies
This episode you’ll be hearing from sister duo Zia and Tamu Stolbie, who perfectly encapsulate the ‘hustle’ mentality we all hear about in the cannabis space. The Stolbie sisters, as their known in the local industry, have several businesses in operation,  all centred around the cannabis plant, which in their words ‘was the missing link’ in their professional careers until now. They have a thriving creative agency, GG Media Lab, which works with cannabis LP’s, brands and influencers. Their apparel line, Stolbie Brand, has a focus on sustainability planting one tree for every item sold, and their event company, High End Dinner, catering to the ever growing demand of infused cannabis experiences, with Red Seal chef Adam Barski, better known as the Budder Chef. At the very core of all their pursuits is collaboration, partnering with creatives and industry professionals from all disciplines to create robust and diverse services as part of their business offerings. Diversity is of course at the crux of this conversation, Tamu and Zia being two WOC working in what we know to be an industry in need of creating and maintaining a space where people from all walks of life have equal opportunity. They discuss their aspirations for themselves and this industry as a whole, having come from tech and film, and also their journey working together as sisters, which for anyone but these two would be challenging to say the least.

Small Town Alberta - Reefer MEDness

Canadian listeners will remember how the hamlet of Lac La Biche helped the citizens of Fort McMurry after the great fire of May 2016. During his visit to this beautiful lake side community, Kirk spoke with the owner of Equilibrium, Lac La Biche’s first independent retail cannabis store. Healing and Truth Were Foundational to Making Cannabis Legal
Today's Podcast is brought to you buy Sessions from The Herblife his episode we welcome two passionate cannabis advocates and industry professionals, Emerald Asuncion and Abi Sampson. Tune in to listen to Emerald and Abi as they discuss their experiences being women of colour in the cannabis space, intersectionality, the roots of cannabis legalisation, and the dedication of the industry pioneers who have paved the way for the legalisation of cannabis in Canada. Through their conversation they highlight some of the pitfalls of the legalised industry, which has all but forgotten minorities and indigenous peoples in the race to get to the top. Many view this industry as new and emerging, which is only true when we consider it in the mainstream context. Truthfully this road has been paved by a long list of activists and advocates for decades. While recreationally legal cannabis is just over a year old, Emerald has worked in the space for more than 7 years starting with the BC compassion club in 2013. She now works as the communications and culture coordinator as Pasha Brands, which is itself a prohibition era brand house. Abi Sampson, a slightly newer addition to space, has been working in cannabis since 2015. She is the Chair of the Dandelion Initiative, a grassroots not-for-profit organization providing support and advocating on behalf of survivors of sexual assault. She’s worked with NORML Canada, a cannabis advocacy group in Canada, is on the board for NICHE Canada, and is currently working as Client Care Specialist at Canopy Growth Corporation. She is also a determined representative of her Filipino roots, which you’ll hear more about in this session. Some advice for this episode, if you’re a foodie like us, you’ll want to take notes around the 35 minute mark when these two get into blazing and Filipino food for the ultimate munchie indulgence.

Sessions Podcast - We’ve Seen Regulation Create An Environmental Predator Out of the Cannabis Industry
Today's podcast is by The H(e)rblife :) This Session you’ll hear from Andrea and Jeremy of The Village Bloomery, in Vancouver BC. The Village opened its doors back in 2015, where they operated for four years as a grey market retail store. As of August of 2019, the Village was granted their cannabis retail license and now operate within the federally regulated cannabis market in Canada. The Village has long been known in Vancouver for being a quality cannabis retail store, one that typifies what it means to serve the community within which they operate. Every detail, from the flower they carry and the curation of products to the design of the store and the knowledgable staff, was meticulously crafted to ensure customers were at ease, whether they were new to the cannabis or long-time consumers. As the recreationally legal cannabis industry in Canada is still in its infancy, the evolving framework has left much to be desired, particularly around access to products, inflated prices, and sustainability. Join Andrea and Jeremy in this illuminating episode as they speak frankly about the challenges of operating in the new system, their experience transitioning into the legal framework, and how this has affected consumers, both new and old. All in all a very fascinating episode from two of Vancouver's most respected cannabis retailer owners, and one which sheds some light on just how much knowledge and effort goes into building a successful retail operation.

While cannabis is certainly a new and thriving industry, it is still an agricultural one. And we have of course been honing our agricultural skills for quite some time with foods we eat. Laura, having worked in large-scale commercial vegetable greenhouses for decades as well as other cannabis LP’s, joined Sundial as the Director of Integrated Crop Management (ICM) and built their ICM system from the ground up. Reefer MEDness - Sex And Pharmacy w Kieley Beaudry
Kieley Beaudry has so many facets to her cannabis knowledge, including Co-Founder of Parkland Flower Inc, President of the Alberta Cannabis Micro License Association, and parent of a child with Cystic Fibrosis (who uses cannabis). But Kieley agreed to enlighten Kirk and Trevor on a delicate and often overlooked topic. Kieley talks about cannabis as treatment for sexual dysfunction. Kieley is not a health care professional, but is extremely well read and knowledgeable. Kieley educates Trevor on topicals, suppositories and many other uses of cannabis especially as it pertains to female sexual health. This episode is in no way graphic but it does acknowledge the existence of sex, so if you are listening with people with sensitive ears be aware. Rahim Dhalla is a pharmacist and CEO of Hybrid Pharm in Ottawa. Trevor constantly whines how he can't bring cannabis into his pharmacy to help patients. Well Rahim has found a way. Come listen to how Rahim helps patients with medical cannabis and he even compounds things like cannabis suppositories. Rahim is dedicated to helping improve his patients' lives and he has found cannabis is an important tool in health care. Cannabiz Social Podcast - Int. with Kieley Beaudry of Parkland Flower
Today's podcast is by Cannabiz Social - Haze Podcast! This week on the Haze, Peter Pilarski speaks with Kieley Beaudry, co-founder of Parkland Flower. Kieley has been a consumer of cannabis for most of her life and cannabis use has become integrated positively into many aspects of her lifestyle. Sadly, Kieley had a family member who battled brain cancer and passed away from the sickness. During the treatment process, Kieley witnessed the power of medical cannabis and she saw firsthand how the plant helped her father-in-law manage his treatment and the illness.  Kieley started Parkland Flower with two other co-founders, and they are in the early stages of building their cannabis business. Their micro cultivation operation starts construction next month and they are currently in their licensing phase. In this podcast, Kieley and Peter discuss the important and difficult process of marketing in the restrictive cannabis industry, talk about the importance of building a personal brand and share about which tools and social media platforms have worked best in terms of building a cannabis brand.  “You build that personal brand and then talk about your company. Word of mouth is not going to go away, and social media is definitely very important. I think when you’re in a local environment all of those things play together, and people will come back for the value,”

Reefer MEDness Podcast - Pastors, Pot, And Prophets
Today's podcast is by the boys @ Reefer MEDness! First up we meet the founding member of Christian Cannabis, Craig Gross. Once known as the “Porn Pastor,” Gross has a new message for Christian leaders. We learn how cannabis facilitated his personal journey and how he came to a cross roads. Gross once focused on helping porn-addicted Christians kick their habit. Now he is focused on how Christians can be healed by this ancient plant. Next we explore the origins of cannabis. Researcher Chris Bennett connects cannabis to world religion and how it spread from one culture to another. He speaks to how biblical Prophets, Knights Templars, and the Messiah himself, were connected to cannabis by reframing our trusted biblical stories. Bennett says cannabis has been part of human history from the beginning. The legalization of cannabis demands philosophical discussions and these two guests bring a deep conversion to what may be our most controversial episode yet. Session Podcast by The Her(b)life - Some Meetings Would Be Better If I Were a Little Bit Stoned
If you’re into cannabis you’ve likely heard of BC Bud. Revered the world over, from the US to Australia, British Columbia is known as the birthplace of some of the worlds highest quality cannabis. So how do BC based producers live up to this gold standard? Join us for the season one finale of Sessions by Her(B) Life, a special episode which pays homage to the place where cannabis came to thrive. We welcome Dan Sutton, CEO of Tantalus Labs, a British Columbia based licensed producer of sun-grown, small batch, long flowered, slow dried cannabis - sounds delicious eh! A BC native, Dan brings into his work the essence of the West Coast, with a deep respect for the nature around us, and a desire to make use of the natural resources in all facets of the growing process. The Tantalus Labs facility is purpose built to aid in their sun grown cultivation methods, which combines the use of state-of-the-art technology and the latest in scientific advancements alongside traditional growing practices to produce high quality cultivars. Their use of technology to harness environmental resources is ushering in an era of sustainable cannabis for a sustainable future, and is one that will hopefully be replicated by many to come. Dan is joined by S. Siobhan McCarthy, Founder of blyssful ALCHEMY, a Vancouver based event space, which is home to a great number of infused workshops, from DIY cannabis topicals and edibles, to guided yoga and meditations, the mandate of Blyssful Alchemy is to provide a safe and comfortable space for people to engage with both the plant and the community around it. Utilising Siobhan's extensive experience in cannabis formulation, the workshops are designed with sustainability in mind, including locally sourced ingredients and often incorporating multiple uses of the plant through the cooking process - think left over, decarbed, cannabis infused chai! The cannabis industry, as we know it today, was built on a collective passion for a plant that has the potential to enrich both the physical and metaphysical facets of life. It’s an industry that has been nurtured by the plant’s devotees, who are often gifted with valuable insights by this incredible plant teacher. This session delves into this mosaic of cannabis science, plant devotion and intelligent curiosity with two of the cannabis plants most ardent supporters.

Reefer MEDness Podcast - Healing Communities Part 2
In Part 2 Kirk leaves Vancouver Island and visits Gimli, Manitoba. He discovers how a family doctor becomes a Cannabis consultant. Dr. Shelley Turner (@TheShelleyT) discusses how a deep interest in addictions directed her practice toward Cannabis. Her new clinic, Ekosi, will teach patients and professionals alike to discover the harm reduction benefit of Cannabis. Dr. Turner's journey with her Cree and Settler heritage, her progression from ambulance driver to nurse to doctor is fascinating enough on its own. But her passion for data, evidence and her patients in all things cannabis is something you'll want to hear. From Newleaf Outreach and Victoria Cannabis Buyers Club in Part 1 to Ekosi in Part 2, the common thread in these three stories is how healing communities are people caring for each other. Is Cannabis an exit drug? Should peers and individuals direct their own Health Care? How can western medicine help with creating healing communities? Kirk and Trevor discuss these questions and offer up some canna-curious opinions. Music by Chocolate Bunnies from Hell (@Chocbunnieshell)

Sessions Podcast - Cannabis is Going From Stigmatized to Sophisticated
Cannabis is one of the oldest plant medicines used by humankind, yet with the help of state-of-the-art technology we’re continuing to develop new ways of harnessing the plants many beneficial properties. This session we welcome Nicolle Hodges, founder of Girls Who Say Fuck, an online publishing platform and brand, alongside cannabis tech pioneer Lisa Harun, co founder of VAPIUM, a Toronto based company developing Vaporising devices. Girls Who Say Fuck is a platform that challenges the traditional ideals of femininity. It encourages girls and women to pursue their passions and create a life full of ‘fuck yes’ moments - which is exactly what Lisa Harun is doing. One of the most interesting aspects of the developing cannabis industry is the evolving relationship between technology and the plant itself. We’re only just beginning to appreciate the complexity of the cannabis plant as it interacts with the human body. It is this knowledge that underpins the drive to explore how contemporary technologies can enhance our cannabis experiences. For entrepreneurs of all industries, lived experiences, both personal and professional, inevitably play a role in the development of ideas. For Lisa, her passion for creating things began in her childhood alongside Lego blocks and Transformer toys, and the encouragement of her parents to pursue this spark. Having managed to combine two of the fastest growing and continuously evolving industries, cannabis and technology, Lisa is a shining example of what can be accomplished with a belief in oneself, a good support system and the courage to pursue your ideas. The result, of course is, VAPIUM, a way to integrate healthy cannabis consumption seamlessly into our lives. If you want to know more about this Sessions hosts you can find them via the below links. Reefer MEDness Podcast - Healing Communities Part 1
Travel with Kirk and Trevor beyond simple harm reduction strategies. Kirk brings us stories from Vancouver Island to Gimli, showing us how the Cannabis Culture helps people be well. In Part 1, we meet Kevin Donnelly from Newleaf Outreach (newleafoutreach.org/). This new autonomous peer driven harm reduction group in Nanaimo, British Columbia promotes that drug peoples’ rights are human rights. They also believe cannabis plays a role for people with substance use disorders. Then Kirk goes south to see Julia Veintrop from the Victoria Cannabis Buyers’ Club (vcbc.live/). The VCBC is an important historic advocacy agency. They've taken cannabis cases to the Supreme Court, but more importantly they have 23 years of experience assisting people with accessing affordable cannabis as their medicine. From new to established, Vancouver Island shows us the strength of peers helping peers. We have a My Cannabis Story from Char about a not so positive experience at a Guns N Roses concert. Come back for Part 2! Gimli has more to offer than Crown Royal and the Icelandic Festival.

Sessions Podcast - We Can’t Just Be Consumers to Get the Full Benefit of the Plant
On this episode of Sessions we discuss cannabis as a spiritual ally, an aspect of the plant that is often glossed over in the mainstream conversation. Spirituality is a concept that differs from from person to person, what is deemed spiritual for a person of one faith may not entirely align with someone of another, yet there are many similarities, which are almost always rooted in introspection. Our guests Elizabeth Bast and Scarlet Ravin discuss how to harness the plants full capabilities with the practice of mindful consumption. For the physical body cannabis can have powerful healing properties, however it’s also an incredible tool for emotional and spiritual reflection. The plant, when used with intention, can be an aid for creativity, self love, self awareness, a tool for healing traumas, and as a facilitator of spiritual connection. SCARLET RAVIN, visionary and founder of the White Fox cannabis company, is a lifetime entrepreneur who fell in love with cannabis at a young age. After experiencing an overdose, she found herself realigned. Her path was informed by many studies of healing arts, love, and natural medicine. White Fox has both full spectrum hemp CBD & THC lines on the market featuring Ayurvedically formulated and botanically enhanced organic MCT oil tinctures, massage oils, salves, and vape pens with the highest vibrational quality alchemical, spirited, magic medicine. White Fox is a woman owned and operated company that is held by ritual and ceremony. ELIZABETH BAST is the author of Heart Medicine: A True Love Story: One Couple’s Quest for the Sacred Iboga Medicine & the Cure for Addiction. Bast serves as a writer, yoga teacher, performance artist, and holistic coach specialising in entheogenic medicine integration, addiction recovery, and women’s empowerment. In 2014, she experienced the Missoko Bwiti initiation and rite of passage in Gabon (Africa), and has since returned to Africa multiple times for traditional shamanic studies. She is a 2018 recipient of a “Women of the Psychedelic Renaissance” grant through Cosmic Sister and their fiscal sponsor, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). The eco-feminist educational advocacy group Cosmic Sister promotes a balance of power between genders and promotes women’s voices in the field of psychedelic medicine. Together, Scarlet & Elizabeth are creating “The Bliss Nectar Experience,” a ceremonial journey into sacred embodiment featuring yoga, tantra, meditation, & plant spirit meditation with cacao, essential oils, & cannabis medicines from White Fox. This is a new/old devotional way of communing with cannabis, one of humanity’s oldest plant allies with whom we have co-evolved. There will be something for every tolerance level & all yoga levels!

Sessions Podcast - Featuring Barinder Rasode & Julie Domingo
"Sometimes You Have to Make Things Up, Be Super Creative and See What Sticks" Canada is on the world stage, and the future of the global cannabis industry relies on us getting legalisations right. Barinder Rasode and Julie Domingo host this weeks Session and discuss what is needed to create a better future for new and old business in the developing cannabis industry. Legalisation is, by all accounts, a step forward, yet it has produced a number of unintended consequences. The stifling of information for consumers, the exclusion of craft brands and restrictions on patients accessing their trusted sources legally, are just some of the issues that have arisen. Both women have strong track records in pioneering education systems in the cannabis industry and have also had a hand in building successful companies that cater to the developing industry. ulie Domingo is one half of Cannareps, the leading cannabis education service, educating front line workers on the science of the cannabis plant. She brings to the table an uncanny ability to create engaging pathways and experiences to educate cannabis industry workers and enthusiasts with the cannareps sommelier course. Barinder Rasode, is the founder of NICHE Canada and Co Founder of Grow Tech Labs, a cannabis focused incubator, with a mandate to support women and Indigenous led companies to launch their businesses. Canadian Cannabis Update Ep106 - Introducing Dana Larsen!
I can't deny that before this interview, I was a little nervous! What do you ask a guy who's been in the public eye for 3 decades? Cannabis & drug policy of course, but beyond that, I wanted to know who Dana is once the cameras are off & the people have gone home. It's a bit of a theme over the last few interviews but for this one, I just wanted to find out who Dana Larsen is. This one may not be what you expect, I hope you find it refreshing! Enjoy :)

Sessions Podcast - A Conversation with Dr Jenna Valleriani & Sarah Hanlon
Do you know what methods inform cannabis policy? Or who is making these decisions? How the factors which guide the regulation around distribution, price, access and education? These are just some of the questions highlighted in this weeks episode with Dr Jenna Valleriani, drug policy reform expert, cannabis advocate and recently appointed CEO of NICHE Canada, and Sarah Hanlon, popular media personality, cannabis advocate and winner of Big Brother Canada. Join them as they discuss the evolving distribution framework for legal cannabis in Ontario, alongside the impact of poor accessibility for medical patients, lack of education for consumers, and the contentious issue of what constitutes ‘public health’ when it comes to regulating legal cannabis. Cannabis is a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of medical patients and already we’ve seen the system undercutting patient supplies and increasing costs, pushing consumers towards the black market. Policy makers are yet to establish a viable alternative to diffuse this ongoing issue. Thus far, the attempts to integrate cannabis into a legal framework have fallen short of expectations. The failing of policy makers to accurately consider the impact of a functional system for consumers will inevitably be the greatest hurdle in a legalised landscape. That is of course, until we give people better access and education, at reasonable prices.

Sessions Podcast -There is No Such Thing As Your Own Lane, We Are Better Together
This Session features two wise women, Ashley Kingsley and Aliza Sherman, founders of Ellementa, the first global cannabis wellness network for women. They talk cannabis shop, the tech boom and how their shared experience of miscarriage planted the seed for a relationship that would eventually blossom into a shared goal of connecting women through cannabis. What we, as humans, need to be healthy and happy changes throughout the many stages of life. Addressing diversity among women happens to be what makes Ellementa successful at building a community of women over 30, using cannabis for their health and wellness. Both pioneers of the early tech industry, Ashley and Aliza discuss the similarities between the tech boom and the cannabis renaissance, and how they used their experience in one developing industry and applied to the other. The use of cannabis is still a stigma deeply entrenched in our culture so much so that many women continue to consume in private. While tides are changing, it takes more than a few insta-influencers to reverse the damage caused by prohibition. It takes a community, a shoulder to lean on, a group of like-minded individuals who stand together united as cannabis consumers.

Sessions Podcast by the HE(R)BLIFE - Ep01
Episode is called "We know so much & we know so little" What do we know about cannabis and it’s role in the treatment of cancer? A lot and a little at the same time apparently. For this session we are joined by Vancouver based holistic nutritionist, Margaret Sung and California’s psycho-oncologist, Dr Sadie Phillips, as they discuss the effects of cannabis in the mainstream medical arena. You’ll hear about the long standing relationship between cannabis as a cancer treatment, including its effectiveness, the need for more research and the increase in demand from patients and families. Medicinal cannabis has been available in both California and Canada for some time, yet the legalisation of recreational cannabis is facilitating another momentous shift in the general acceptance of the plant. Patients and physicians are increasingly searching for answers as to how best to combine cannabis with traditional treatments. The two discuss the use of cannabis among oncology professional and how many cancer queries are driven by patients and family members. Currently only 30% of doctors feel comfortable giving cannabis recommendations, and many feel there is a need for more support in this field.

Your body produces its own cannabinoids and has receptors that can accept external cannabinoids like THC and CBD. But just because cannabis is natural doesn't mean it shouldn't be used with caution. Dr. Laprairie also discusses interactions with prescription medications and other thing to watch for.
