The Power of Storytelling Through Photography | Te Rawhitiroa Bosch

The Power of Storytelling Through Photography | Te Rawhitiroa Bosch

Born and raised in Aotearoa New Zealand, Te Rawhitiroa Bosch's passion is grounded in capturing moments of connection. Through his work Te Rawhitiroa uses the power of storytelling to reclaim the narratives of Te Ao Maori, capturing not only the subjects, but also the deeper story and emotion behind each moment to share with others.

With an overarching kaupapa (purpose/vision) to capture the reality of te ao Maori, Te Rawhitiroa seeks to flood the world with positive and authentic images that represent this beautiful culture and people.

In this episode, Canon New Zealand host Ben Journee explores how Te Rawhitiroa began his journey as a self taught photographer, the advice he's received along the way, and how he portrays stories of connection and emotion through photography.

Why Aren’t You Using TikTok? ft. Jono Kraettli

Why Aren’t You Using TikTok? ft. Jono Kraettli

Our final episode of Season One of Canon Conversations!

As we begin to close the door on the whirlwind that has been 2020 and look ahead to 2021 I think it’s a perfect time to talk about something I’ve been meaning to on this podcast for a while, and that’s TikTok… Yes, TikTok. The platform you’ve definitely heard of but probably aren’t using to promote your work.

Today I’m joined by Jono Kraettli aka @focalphotographic to talk all about this frenetic, creative, and often confusing app and why as photographers, videographers and creatives we can and (dare I say) should be using this platform to grow our following and promote our work.

I’m a Big Fan ft. Si Moore

I’m a Big Fan ft. Si Moore

A successful photography business is more like a touring indie band than you realise…

On today’s show we’re chatting with Si Moore, one half of legendary wedding photography duo Bayly & Moore about the importance of making work that people can be fans of. Si is no stranger to podcasts and he certainly delivers the goods today, making my job as a host about as easy as it’s going to get!

If you’ve ever had a potential client email just asking “how much will this cost?” and it seems like they’ve sent the same email to 10 other photographers, this episode is for you. Si tells us why we should be aiming to “make fans always” because when someone is a fan of your work, they make decisions based on their heart, not their head…

The Business of Photography ft. Commercial Food Photographer Nick T

The Business of Photography ft. Commercial Food Photographer Nick T

Todays topic probably comes up the most when I ask photographers what they'd want to hear from a podcast episode, and that doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Running a business, knowing what to charge, thinking about contracts and formal processes are things that creative people naturally have blocks with and yet they are essential to turn our passion into a stable, lifelong career.

Today I'm talking with commercial food photographer Nick T and getting him to shed some light on these often neglected subjects.

Notepads at the ready fam, there's lots to learn!

The Power of Storytelling ft. Camilla Rutherford

The Power of Storytelling ft. Camilla Rutherford

Storytelling is a bit of a buzz word lately but as photographers we need to see through the hype and know that the craft of storytelling is as much a part of photography as knowing how to use your camera. What lens you use, how high or low you put your camera, what you include in your frame and what you leave out are all pieces in the puzzle that help communicate clearly to the viewer what you're trying to say.
