Dealing With Imposter Syndrome During Covid19

Dealing With Imposter Syndrome During Covid19

It's been tough for me personally taking part in various projects during COVID19. I've never felt so much imposter syndrome until recently, but having been able to process it, I found the root of it, and I want to share with you what might be at the root of any personal barriers you might be facing right now.

A Lecture at Tumwater High School

A Lecture at Tumwater High School

I was given the distinguished honor of speaking at a local high school to a class of media students.

I wasn't completely sure what to share with them, since I am self taught, so I went in being real and with a heart for the next generation's success.

I shared all the best things I've learned about being a self-taught professional media guy.

Work Life Balance & Outsourcing - A Conversation with Tim Krause

Work Life Balance & Outsourcing - A Conversation with Tim Krause

This is a candid, honest conversation that has been very minimally edited. I sat down to talk with my friend AND competitor Tim Krause of Videos Crafted to discuss our differences in outsourcing and work-life balance.

It's very important to me that Tim gets his point across so that anyone can learn from him. I have learned a lot form him, and I am proud to compete with him in the same Tacoma area market. We get along because we are both passionate about our work and we also work out of the same building.

Conversation #1 - Tim Krause on First Time Making a Film

In this conversation Tim Krause, a good friend and frequent collaborator in video, received a message from a first time filmmaker trying to get some advice on distributing his first short film "hangman". Tim and I put our heads together to help a brotha out.

What Camera to Buy - What Kanye West Taught Me About Gear

What Camera to Buy - What Kanye West Taught Me About Gear

I'm pretty passionate about the subject of camera gear, but not in the way some of my colleagues are.

Having just purchased a new camera not too long ago, I was forced to shop around. During my search for the "perfect" camera, I was reminded of why I don't already have the newest and best, why I never have, and why I'm ok with that. It's a matter of knowing what your values are, and never forgetting what brought you to the dance. Today so many would-be artists get so caught up in the technology of the craft that they forget to make things that people want to see at all.

The lesson I'm passing on to a younger me in this episode is simply that, as Kanye West put it (roughly): "If your grandma was to surprise you with a cake on your birthday, would you question the batter?".

In other words, if your job is to create an emotional experience for your audience, why are you wasting your time pouring over numbers and specs?

Unemployed: If I Were a Drummer, I'd Be Drumming

This first episode is an ingtroduction onto the mindset that anyone building a career from scratch should have. No matter what is happening in you life, you have to think, "If I am who I say I am, I must do what I say I do".
