True Crime: Predators with Cathy Cassidy, Clinical/Forensic Therapist

This podcast describes my experience with polygraphs and sex offenders while working as a Sex Offender Therapist for the Department of Corrections. I was fortunate to work with 2 polygraph examiners who were a wealth of knowledge, professionalism and excellence; one was a young woman with her own polygraph business and the other was a retired FBI agent.

This podcast trailed in a few directions, but mostly it covers my preparation for an interview in a jail as a forensic therapist. As I was getting ready everything suddenly came back to me from the first corrections job I had. There was an array of things that I wished someone would have shared with me before my first interview in corrections and also for working in that setting. So, here we have it....a brief compilation of how I get ready and my tips for do's and don'ts of you want to work in a jail.

Sara was brave enough to share her story with us. She explains the tragic twist of events when she learned that her childhood best friend eventually became the sexual abuser of several of her children ranging in ages of newborn to age 11, and that includes her sister... and eventually herself. Follow along as Sara describes and unravels the events leading up to finding out what her best friend was doing and the steps she took to involve law-enforcement and child protective services. Sara takes us through her journey and how they were put in hiding for their safety. She describes the different court events, relationships, shocking discoveries, and outcomes. Gina Barnett is a Forensic Researcher and in this interview she explains what that means and how her field of work plays a huge role in determining the time of death, which ultimately assists with law enforcement and an array or other areas. Gina also describes her time working at The Body Farm in Tennessee. She explains the process of becoming a "donor" for your remains and what they do with the bodies/remains.

Gina does offer guidance on how to become a Forensic Researcher and/or Anthropologist.

This podcast contains graphic details of an interview with a convicted pedophile that I once worked with. He agreed to share the details of his sex crime against his two minor granddaughters. FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE. He describes his background prior to the abuse and how the sexual abuse developed, and the ways he molested them. The offender talks about how there were times when various family members were in the same room or house while he was molesting the children. He also disclosed that at one point, one of the victims did tell her parents and how was able to get around it by spinning the situation to the point that the child was again allowed to be around him and he was able to continue sexually abusing her. Additionally, his wife at the time had some level of knowledge and did nothing to protect these children. He discusses how he eventually got caught and the consequences that he faced.
