John is a Professor at the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University. His research is in the broad area of construction engineering and management, and more specifically related to safety, prevention through design, work zone safety, risk and reward, innovation, and sustainable and lean practices.

It has taken two decades to achieve cultural buy-in, shared best practices, and a collaborative forward approach to risk management in the AEC industry. Yet today, many still struggle with cultural and behavioral implications and proving the return on investment. This session will use lessons learned from prior disruptive initiatives in construction to forecast what we can expect for innovation, and then draw a roadmap for the future sustainability of the construction industry and beyond.
