CEO Paul Goranson to discuss the importance of a domestic uranium supply and the need to bolster American production for both fuel and non-fuel uses. With Russia being the only commercial supplier of high-assay low-enriched uranium and increased scrutiny over Russia's involvement in the global nuclear fuel cycle, Western Caucus Members have strongly advocated for increased domestic development of uranium. In April, Chairman Newhouse and Vice Chair Cheney led a letter to U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm expressing concerns about her delay in implementing a national uranium reserve. In this episode, Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) is joined by U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Touton, Kennewick Irrigation District Manager Chuck Freeman, and Greater Wenatchee Irrigation District Manager Craig Gyselinck to discuss the challenges and opportunities stemming from federal water infrastructure in Washington state and across the West. The Bureau of Reclamation oversees the majority of water infrastructure throughout the arid West, and much of it is in desperate need of repairs or maintenance. The group discusses the different tools available to local irrigation districts, such as title transfers, and how they are working together to meet the needs of water users throughout the region.
