130 | The Fundamental Conflict of the Soul and How Leaders Can Experience Jesus Really | Author and Founder of Wild at Heart John Eldredge

130 | The Fundamental Conflict of the Soul and How Leaders Can Experience Jesus Really | Author and Founder of Wild at Heart John Eldredge

John Eldredge is back for our third conversation together. We talk about his latest book, Experience Jesus Really, and how to find refuge in the summer and restore the strength of your leadership.

What I learned from John in our conversation:

  1. Why praying over your vacation is essential and how to invite others to pray with you in all seasons of life.
  2. God created us to enjoy life now, and how to pull away from being discipled by the internet.
  3. You cannot trust a vacation to restore of provide refuge for your soul.
  4. Your organization may flourish more with a four-day work week. Root your team in a "vine and branch" organization who have a real life in God.
  5. As the leader of a team, learn what triggers you and then invite Christ into those parts and receive his care and compassion.
  6. If you are facing a complex leadership decision, learn to invite Jesus into that place of fear or risk aversion and ask Jesus to heal your soul.
  7. The pressure of leadership will reveal the unhealthy places that Jesus wants more access to you in the journey of becoming a wholehearted leader.
  8. Leadership is lonely. Pay attention to addictions, even if the addiction is chocolate. God may be inviting you to find refuge in him from your leadership irritations.
  9. Learn to receive from God care, love, and leadership. Your position of receiving will open you back up to love. Receiving is about being loved. You are loved.

129 | Why Achievers and Pleasers are Often Wounded and the Path Towards Healing | Founder of The Table Group Patrick Lencioni

Patrick Lencioni Founder of The Table Group. TG focus is on leading a movement to make organizational health a reality in companies and organizations everywhere. That's because we are utterly convinced that a healthy organization achieves greater results, builds a more loyal customer base, and develops fulfilled employees.

What I learned in my conversation with Pat:

  1. How Pat and his wife Laura grow their marriage through long drives together.
  2. Be responsive to the voice of God and the Holy Spirit will lead you. Learning to respond in a way that is alignment with him and your gifting will lead you to flourish.
  3. How achievers and pleasers may not even be aware of their dark side because it gets rewarded in our organizations.
  4. The simple truths are the foundations of healthy organizations and a thriving life.
  5. The false narrative that exists when high performance is only measuring external outcomes.
  6. The addiction of high performers to please others is a dangerous path.
  7. Be excellent at your job and allow the joy of Jesus to be the overflow.
  8. Learn about yourself through assessments, coaching, and get curious about the behaviors that are not consistent with the gifts that God gives you.
  9. Pray regularly and pause throughout the day to delight in the one who created you.

128 | What is Success for Entrepreneurs and Building Mental Fitness | Co-Founder of Forte William Norvell

William Norvell Co-Founder of Forte. Forte is the proactive mental fitness service strengthening culture through human connection, interactive resources, and actionable data.

What I learned in my conversation with William.

  1. God is often a "yellow light" God, meaning that often times he gives us the freewill option to pursue our dreams and once we overcome our fears he gives us a green light.
  2. Traveling with meaningful partners in business ventures is essential.
  3. Every high-level leader needs a trusted guide who provides a space for mental safety.
  4. Build a red alert text chain of people who remind you of your true identity when life gets challenging. Build the list of your red alert people now.
  5. Therapy is great. However, oftentimes you simply need a mental fitness partner.
  6. Learn to spot the shadow mission of when life is only five degrees off.
  7. Contending for the Lord is good, but striving is a bridge to far.

127 | Live Fearless in Your True Identity and How to Finally Hear from God | CEO of Identity Exchange Donna Winship

127 | Live Fearless in Your True Identity and How to Finally Hear from God | CEO of Identity Exchange Donna Winship

Donna Winship left the American dream with her husband, Jamie and their three boys and spent 25 years raising their family in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. This was a journey that would forever change her life.
Living overseas in a predominantly Muslim country, Donna discovered the principles of the Kingdom of God as demonstrated by Jesus and learned to live fearlessly in her true identity. When put into daily practice, these principles result in peace that surpasses understanding and truth that results in genuine freedom, even in an atmosphere of war, terrorism and death.

Donna Winship is the CEO of Identity Exchange and the wife of Jamie Winship, who is the author of Living Fearlessly.

What I learned from Donna in our conversation:

  1. It is not about the severity of the trauma or life event, it is the response to it. The response often triggers a deep lie and belief that takes root.
  2. There is no power in the lie unless you come into agreement with the lie.
  3. Listening Prayer is asking God questions that point you back to your true identity.
  4. People worship their theology and fear changing because of what would happen if Jesus really transformed me. People are stuck in false identities and get their identities from their various "right" beliefs.
  5. Start here, ask God: Who do you say I am? What do you want me to know? What do you want me to do?
  6. Try this in your organization: Truth Tell about what you are afraid of right now? Mind Change what is true? Form Change, what will you do?

Start here to get a foundation of what living in your true identity could do for you, your family, and your organization.

126 | Overcoming Alcohol as an Idol and Leaving a Corporate Job | Founder of Dadvoted Kevin Goodnight

Kevin Goodnight is a testimony of faithful obedience to God and pursuing the dream hidden in your heart.

What I learned from my conversation with Kevin:

  1. Walking and praying with your wife is one of the best ways to stay connected and flourish.
  2. The path to freedom is found in confession.
  3. It may not be an addiction as much as it is an idol.
  4. Running in your true identity is God's design for you to prosper.
  5. Closing the authenticity gap of truth is what will take your life to the next level.

Building Champions is an executive coaching and leadership development firm focused on helping leaders achieve success in business and life. SetPath is a community benefit nonprofit that helps young adults discover their true potential through life planning and mentoring.

What I learned from my conversation with Daniel:

  1. When they see you as husband or wife, do they see the Divininess of God? Treating your bride to be more radiant because she has felt the reality of Christ in you.
  2. Planning your life with the mindset of a steward based on your unique role will help you be less anxious.
  3. When hiring a coach, you need to find one who listens well, who has the gift of exhortation, who has a toolkit, self-leadership, and why your coach does not need to know your industry to serve you.
  4. Surround yourself with many smart people who bring ou the best in you and those around you. You need a thinking partner who is not biased in your organization.
  5. The more time in the coach's chair the more valuable you become to businesses and organizations because you begin to have a front seat into the nuances of various industries.
  6. The pursuit of becoming a man, a leader, a husband is the journey of becoming more like Christ.
  7. It is good to ask for help. It is good to acknowledge that you have fears and insecurities.

From Raising Resilient Daughters...

"Your daughters need you...When you have a daughter, something different happens in your heart. A new kind of resolve rises that you didn’t know was possible. A resolve to love her, protect her, prepare her to thrive in the world. But that resolve is getting harder to live out in the craziness of our modern world. There is a serious challenge in our current cultural moment." Jon Tyson

If you win at work, but lose at home, you still lose.
When you think of success, what comes to mind? Career, public achievements, diplomas, degrees, bank account balance? We work hard to find a job, gain promotions, and develop skills to become a peak performer. If you’re like most people, we’re continually striving to win at work.
Winning Begins At Home, the new book from Randy Gravitt, explores what it takes to win where it matters most—at home. Part story, part assessment and workbook, this book will lead you through exercises, writing prompts, and action steps that will help you create a blueprint for the family you want. Just as you've crafted a plan for professional growth, it's time to prioritize winning at home.

Learning to Be Human Halfway Through Life | Author Chris Field

Learning to Be Human Halfway Through Life | Author Chris Field

Warning authentic conversation follows. Be prepared to talk to your kids about sex if they are listening.

Meaning Making is for those who have laughed and cried and loved and lost and are now staring down the decades that remain, wondering how to ensure they don’t miss out on the exquisite chaos of the here and now.

No one is broken, everyone is worthy of being known, and we’re all a collection of complex, beautiful messes. These are the core truths that drive this gritty and authentic book forward. It’s about becoming fully human, one moment at a time—no matter what age you are.

This is not memoir or self-help. Chris acknowledges he doesn’t have all the answers (or many at all). He doesn’t offer five-step action plans, earth-shattering advice, or a promise to change your life.

Instead, he shares seemingly ordinary anecdotes, mundane moments that become formative life lessons—but only if we choose to make meaning from them. Vulnerable, heartfelt, and relatable, Meaning Making is about Chris’s commitment to embracing the second half of life—and inviting you to do the same.

Chris Field is an award-winning author and two-time TEDx speaker. He is the founder of Mercy Project, an innovative nonprofit that combats child trafficking in Ghana’s fishing industry. Mercy Project has rescued, rehabilitated, and reintegrated nearly three hundred formerly enslaved children back into their families.

Chris has broken multiple Guinness world records, run dozens of marathons, and taught hundreds of business students at Texas A&M University. His previous books include Disrupting for Good and A Billion Hours of Good. He lives in College Station, Texas, with his wife, Stacey, and their four children.

While all of this sounds really important and impressive (which he understands is the point of this section), he’s also just a regular guy who loses his temper, forgets his wallet, messes up a lot, and has a whole host of shortcomings equally as unimpressive as the two paragraphs above. In other words, he’s a beggar on a journey for bread, just like everyone else in the world.
