Confirmed monkeypox cases in Texas have climbed to 20. Meanwhile three local counties - Blanco, Lampasas and Milam - have risen to High risk status for COVID-19 spread according to the CDC. Local hospitalizations continue rising steadily, now up to 142 from 118 one week ago.


Gas prices continue dropping - the statewide average price is now down 16 cents over the last week, hitting $4.33 per gallon, which is still way higher than this time last year when it was $2.81. GasBuddy reports the cheapest gas in central Austin this morning is $4.19.

A city-commissioned consumer advocate team is warning that proposed utility price hikes from Austin Energy will present significant challenges to lower-income Austinites.


The downtown building housing Vince Young Steakhouse, dating back to 1912, is facing demolition.


The Harry Ransom Center at UT is creating a new endowment named for actor Robert De Niro, who is set to host a 65th anniversary gala for the Ransom Center in September.

John Nagle II, an Austin-based entrepreneur who founded several interactive gaming companies, died June 22 in a helicopter accident. 


Several board members of Mexic-Arte Museum, dedicated since 1983 to the presentation and promotion of traditional and contemporary Mexican and Latino art and culture, have resigned citing concerns about the museum’s management and leadership.
