EPISODE 1413: Producer/Director, Bonnie Bruderer INFLUENCER

Binge Network CEO Bonnie Bruderer director of the documentary film Influencer joins JUST TALKING to discuss how millennials made millions of dollars with an iPhone. Social media has created a platform where just about anyone can fashion themselves as an influencer—BUT what does a millennial really know? Are they just a cheaper mouthpiece? Advertising is everything! Without advertising a product can die with the snap of a finger. 24-7 constant branding on social media means also being vulnerable to negative criticism, hurtful insults, lack of privacy and the worst of all trending fates—getting fizzled. Having a huge following is great for the brand but can humans process all these opinions? Influencers VS celebrities. Who do you go with? Who do you trust? Have tech companies created a virtual gladiator stadium and we the audience demand drama on the high court—WAIT are we the problem? Feelings not facts. Can an influencer push a brand for the money and simultaneously be guided by their moral compass? Weaponizing social media as a spying tool has been a hot topic this year. TikTok has been in the spotlight over accusations and potentially could be banned in the USA. Maybe TT needs to hire an influencer? Is social media the new cigarette? The government is proposing bills about child safety, addiction, mental health, screen time, etc.. WARNING: the surgeon general has determined that social media is dangerous to your health—BUT what isn’t these days? With syndication on 300+ smart TV’s there’s more than enough content to binge on.  Watch the Influencer on Tubi: https://tubitv.com/movies/705562/influencer

Epidsode 1412: ‘thatonecatholicgirl’ Vanessa Forsblad and Music Producer, Steve Ornest

Just Talking

Vanessa Forsblad aka ‘thatonecatholicgirl’ aspiring Catholic apologist joins JUST TALKING on Good Friday to share the goodness. If religion is a relationship with God does that make your boyfriend a “side piece?” Time to change your profile on Christian Mingle to “praying the field.” At 18 most people have no idea what they want to do with themselves, life goals, etc. Vanessa knew early on there were two things she was passionate about, her faith and eating bean and cheese burritos with her grandmother. Religion has provided structure, tradition and values. She loves teaching and sharing, “because I just see the beauty of having something like that in your life.” Do you have to go to church to be spiritual? Millennials and Gen Z feel out of touch speaking about religion. WHY are people so reluctant to talk about their beliefs? Has technology become a new religion? We’re so connected now it should be easier than ever to share your faith. There’s been a decline in religious affiliation with Millennials and Gen Z. BUT is there an uprising on the verge? Apologist Vanessa says young people want the structure back, want a supportive community, an authoritative figure who can provide guidance and spiritual answers —— are we asking for an AI Jesus? Follow your moral compass. Use the search engine inside you and if you get no answers, let’s just pray on it first. Follow, listen and Pray: https://www.thatonecatholicgirl.com

Strike A Chord

Steve Ornest from Total Access Recording Studios joins STRIKE A CHORD to share his story about becoming a world renowned music producer. Lava lamps and keyboard players, it’s the recording studio dream. BUT how did young teenage Steve use his Gibson Les Paul guitar skills to pay the bills and get a new dad named Wyn Davis? Steve earned a degree at the Berklee College of Music in NY where there was fierce competition from eager rivals.  He found a new talent arranging and producing songs setting him apart from just being a guitar player. Hard rock and metal forever —— well, until you get a mortgage and family. “It can take 100 hours or more just on one song. It’s not just about making it sound good, it’s about making you feel something, capturing lightning in a bottle can take time.”  What are Producer Steve’s pet peeves? 1st more cowbell — a SNL Blue Oyster Cult sketch reference (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVsQLlk-T0s). 2nd I want to sound like this artist! This business is a team effort. You have to develop your brand. There’s writers, producers, agents, managers, etc.. Let’s do YOU and make the best version of what YOU are already doing. Produce that next album at Total Access Recording Studios: https://www.tarecording.com

Episode 1410: Video Game Talk Show Host HenricK The WrecK, Rage Quit and Vocalist/Guitarist Dan Mitre, Distortions

JUST TALKING

Game contributor HenricK The WrecK and Ubisoft Community Development Director, Dan Mitre log into JUST TALKING to smash their video game controllers on the floor frustrated with gaming politics! They're just one life-heart away from the final stage and with 10% energy left can they beat the final boss? In gaming news the U.S. government wants to ban social media giant TikTok because they have concerns over China spying on Americans. Meanwhile Apple Siri, Microsoft Cortana, Google Home and Amazon Echo say— “don’t panic, we hear your concerns." The 2023 BAFTA (British Academy Games Awards) are coming up and why should we care? We don’t BUT let’s press start anyway. Which games do our esteemed panel of gamers nominate? God of War is the Beyonce of awards—multiple nominations but hasn’t sealed the deal. Will Elden Ring take home the gold? Totally Turtles dude! It’s a sleeper hit on the Nintendo Switch. It’s heavy on the cheese but can it deliver the “za” in 30 minutes or less? Voice Acting is getting the recognition it deserves but the competition is tight. Which VO performer takes the trophy in a video game leading role? The best games in 2023 are from 15 years ago! How does the video game industry justify serving stale bread to the fans? Is the nostalgic factor worth the price of entertainment — is there an appetite for these old moldy games? Don’t touch it, there are masterpieces in our world that need to be left alone. The Olympic Esports competition will take place in Singapore with games like Just Dance and Tennis Clash while snubbing established tournament franchises like Call of Duty and League of Legends. Gamers say the Olympics are playing it too safe and need to include headshots. Can we uncheck the parental controls—BUT the E in Esports stands for everyone! Even hockey players clean up their act for the Olympic Games! https://www.chriscollinsshow.com/henrick-the-wreck

STRIKE A CHORD

Vocalist/guitarist Dan Mitre joins STRIKE A CHORD to discuss his Punk Rock trio band Distortions. Rocking out of Raleigh, North Carolina the band has deep roots in the punk rock scene, the trio quickly established a fan base and position in the music community. Distortions is well known for crazy guitar riffs and an unwavering desire to perform live on stage. Rumor has it, this is how the band survives without food or water—feeding off the communal energy of the crowd. But how did former Bear vs Shark bassist Nick Jones and former Blitzkid drummer Andrew Winter link up with Dan Mitre to form Distortions? Music is medicine for the soul. The trio brings passion and emotion to every track but Mitre admits "you don’t really know until you see us live on stage." Their latest EP “Flies” addresses some heavy themes. “We’re all battling some form of depression, the demons ripping at our chest but there’s hope at the end of the day, we can persevere and we can endure and there is a reason to continue forward.” Community is vital to Distortions. We need to be human. You can’t spend every day pretending to be Superman. REACH OUT to people that love you, don’t be afraid. That commitment to community also created a record label, Bored to Death Records. Dan’s DIY punk rock campaign to offer a platform for independent artists without the pressure and politics of a large music label. Singles or Albums has been an on-going argument on the show BUT which side does Distortions go sideways with? The trio is a force of nature and their latest single “Castaways” is as punk as it gets. We’re all just “whimsy hypnosis charming castaways” on punk rock island. Follow, listen and Support: https://distortionsband.com

Episode 1409: All The World Is Sleeping, Writer/Director Ryan Lacen and Denver Pop Punk Kings Bury Mia

Episode 1409: All The World Is Sleeping, Writer/Director Ryan Lacen and Denver Pop Punk Kings Bury Mia

Writer/Director Ryan Lacen joins JUST TALKING to discuss his latest film All the World is Sleeping. Inspired by real life experiences the film is about “survival, making it in a world that doesn’t go easy on you; following a mother struggling with addiction while also trying to surface for her daughter.” All the World is Sleeping asks the audience to put themselves in someone else’s shoes instead of simply judging. “Let’s pull that curtain back and see what experiences they’ve been through… let’s see their life.” All films have obstacles and up-hill challenges. BUT how did 7 women and their stories shape the voice of justice in this film? Addiction is a heavy subject. Like Ryan many families have experienced some level of addiction that deeply affects family relationships, friends and co-workers. What can we do to help and support? A film of this caliber needs to be authentic. Ryan brought the 7 women on set as consultants to evaluate and provide guidance on this production. The results are immediately felt during the film. There’s a new perspective with an emotional connection for the audience to find empathy in the story and create a conversation walking out of the theatre. Denver Colorado Pop Punk Kings Bury Mia joins STRIKE A CHORD to thrash out their latest single “We've Been Trying to Reach You About Your Car's Extended Warranty.” Reinventing Pop Punk is their mission. That’s a big ask. So how is Bury Mia going to do this? “We’re super inspired by the early 2000’s bands. Taking Back Sunday, Blink 182… we’re trying to reprocess and make something new.” Bury Mia is tired of being stuck “inside.” They crave to reach out.  What’s the message Bury Mia wants to share? “Reach out to people, they’re having a hard time… not everyone is living perfect … reach out, they would appreciate the text message, just talking, a phone call… just checking on your friend's man.” It turns out Millennials hate voicemail but love social media for connecting—BUT it’s not the most therapeutic method. However, if you can’t afford therapy, then the next best thing is to download “We've Been Trying to Reach You About Your Car's Extended Warranty” by Bury Mia. Having a vision for yourself is a priority and we hit the gym hard to reach that goal. While secretly hoping our frenemies eat humble pie, jealous of glamorous physiques with envy. That’s a dream many of us will never see! So, let’s get back to reality. You don’t need to be a “gym freak” to improve your fitness. The Vision Twins have some easy workout routines to motivate you into the fast lane to reach your goals. Strike a Chord

THE ADLIBS TikTok sensation Justin Bernardez returns to STRIKE A CHORD to catch up on recent events and his new upcoming project. Justin released an EP in 2021 musically themed around mental health—an open invitation on his social media accounts. Mental Health is a heavy topic and takes a huge toll. So how does an influencer with 2 MILLION subscribers deal with the overload? New videos daily, content hourly and responses in real time. The burnout is real! However, there’s a pay day! The social media investment does pay off. Fans have been asking for that new track, that new album and Bernardez delivers! Trends in music are always changing. There's a big push in the music industry to use artificial intelligence software to write lyrics and produce albums. Can AI really create music humans want to dance to? Are song writers a thing of the past?  Justin asks the question “AI can write a song for you—BUT can AI perform a song?” Music comes from the soul. If AI is artificial, it has no soul—OR does an artificial soul count? Obviously, there’s NO AI replacing Justin Bernardez any time soon! Episode 1402: The Stalking Fields, Writer/Actor/Co-Producer Sean Crampton

Episode 1402: The Stalking Fields, Writer/Actor/Co-Producer Sean Crampton

Let’s get IT! CCS Season 14 has begun!  Writer/Actor Sean Crampton joins JUST TALKING to discuss his new action thriller, The Stalking Fields. A film about a group of civilians who find themselves trapped in a PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) training program. What starts off as a reasonable therapeutic exercise turns into a dark government experiment gone out of control. A mix of screaming pauses throughout this film openly question your morality — when is it right? What is wrong? “Everyone carries PTSD in certain ways.” Crampton’s father was a decorated Navy Seal for 27 years — you couldn’t throw a rock and not hit a military family! A picturesque example of the modern nuclear family prompted Crampton to take a deeper look into the American Dream. But it was Hollywood’s hyper-glamorized portrayal of combat that really fueled this film in a different direction to provide answers. HOW do we adequately address the reality of coming back home? Crampton’s father, Cramton Sr. served 13 deployments for his country. According to the 2022 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans are at 57% higher risk of suicide than those who haven't served. What about retirement? How do we treat our Veterans during the transition? Can new technologies like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) provide beneficial therapy? In the writer’s room Sean Crampton and Jordan Wiseley both grew up in military families and director Ric Maddox, an army veteran, teamed up to make this thriller film. All three drew on their personal experiences to make this film as visceral as possible. The audience is definitely going to face a decision on which side they are willing to stalk for. JUST TALKING

Veteran Music Industry Executive and D.VERSE Media CEO, Benny Pough joins JUST TALKING to share his story about ON IMPACT: Life, Leadership, and Betting on Yourself. “GRINDING, GRINDING, GRINDING!” Benny’s been in the game for over 30 years—what’s changed? The title of his book ON IMPACT has a double meaning. It took a near death experience — you’ve got to hear this story. While recovering Benny developed the acronym IMPACT (Intuition, Mastery, Pivot, Authenticity, Connection and Teamwork), a journey from an 11 year old paperboy to current day CEO. We all start somewhere. Looking for an opportunity. Benny found his moment as a young standup comedian—BUT what’s more interesting is how not telling jokes catapulted his career. Benny has worked at Motown Records, Perspective Records (Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis), Arista Records, MCA Records and Def Jam Records — are there any record companies left? Love or hate it, it’s that time of the year. Christmas is around the corner and thanks to Benny one artist dropped a Christmas song that will be played to the end of time. Time to Pivot! Benny shares his experience leaving Def Jam to become the president at Roc Nation—" it was a natural fit, it was great, had some really big success—it was time to take a chance.” ON IMPACT is about Betting on Yourself.  Radio’s not dead. It still has value. BUT how do today’s upcoming artists survive the streaming wars and social media demand? Keep in mind Taylor Swift sold millions of vinyl records—BUT who has a record player anymore?! “You’re not going to be IT today but definitely going to be IT tomorrow.” Young artists look for the opportunity to sell your artistry — it’s all part of the GRIND! Love, share and follow: https://www.bennypough.com

London Rock guitarist Niro Knox joins STRIKE A CHORD to discuss his upcoming album release. Niro’s been playing in rock bands since Slash has been shredding Guns N’ Roses; King Lizard, KilliT and Holloway Hell. Niro is now stepping front and center with his own LP. Spilling tea, sipping tea and just plain old tea time, Niro originally from Israel moved to London 19 years ago and found his guitar pick in the local rock scene. Inspired by rock legends of the time, it was natural to resonate with being a kick ass guitarist. Later Niro found a disconnect between music and songs—what does that mean? Niro worked with Rasmus Bon Andersen (Diamond Head) to prepare as lead singer on this new album—BUT how did a cheeky t-shirt link up the two artists? Record label or self-publish? Niro made a conscious decision to produce this album on his own—BUT why not join a record label for the extra support? What does it really cost to produce a track at a studio like Abbey Road or Fiction? Niro started a Kickstarter campaign to help fund this album. Listen to the demos. It’s time to have a cuppa and ROCK! Support this kick ass artist: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/niroknox/debut-album-21

Episode 1309: CONCEPTION Director Tarun Verma, Actress Simren Lalani and Connecticut Rock Band, American Thrills

JUST TALKING

Director/Writer/Cape Crusader Tarun Verma and Actress Simren Lalani join JUST TALKING to discuss their film CONCEPTION. The film hits on a number of sensitive issues when it comes to starting a family. According to experts the fertility rate is declining worldwide for a number of reasons directly affecting Millennials. “Making babies is the fun part, until you realize you just can’t have any. How far will you go to have a baby?” Tarun’s personal life as a fertility pharmacist inspired him to write this drama. BUT what motivated a comedy writer to produce such an emotional story? When getting pregnant doesn’t happen naturally or by accident, what’s the alternative? Infertility is a dirty secret no one wants to talk about. The cost of IV (In Vitro Fertilization) can hit six figures, plus the physical procedures and emotional strain on the couple. When it happens, it’s an absolute blessing but who delivers the bad news? Is there anything wrong with a 2-person millennial family? Actress Simren Lalani opens up about her family choice. What if you want to live the Bill Maher life, bachelor till you’re 50? Millennials, we need to talk about having children! Watch and support: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13680670

Connecticut's Rock Band American Thrills joins STRIKE A CHORD and it’s like a Bald Eagle knocking back a 30 rack of Budweiser sitting on a throne of glorious red, white and blue! It’s a patriotic band name or is it? Every band needs a hook, something to grab the audience's attention and separate them from the herd. American Thrills went with “New Country”—BUT what does that even mean? Is this like Jonathan Davis or Chad Grey from Mudvayne? New Country and Rock genres are you saying Hank The Third? We’re all inspired by something. “This was kinda our upbringingLimp Biscuit and DeftonesIt was MTV and that was a very influential time for us as young musicians.” Is Punk Rock even Punk Rock anymore? 20 years ago you'd think of the Descendents. Parted Ways is American Thrills debut LP. How was this release different from the EP “Old Things?” Bassist, Jamie Otfinoski breaks down their production process. “Misfires” is classic upbeat rock anthem, heavy guitars, loud drums and shouting lyrics, combine them all and you got a kick ass track. How are small bands competing with rising gas prices, dynamic venue ticket pricing and streaming services? “Old Things” is another track you easily fall in love with. It’s about getting older, enjoying old friends and the nostalgia of past years. American Thrills is releasing a limited edition vinyl record and a music video to celebrate Parted Ways and we can’t wait to enjoy it! Watch, Listen and Follow: https://www.americanthrills.com

JUST TALKING

CCS Video Game Contributor, HenricK The WrecK joins JUST TALKING rockin’ new stylish glasses to keep Metaverse in focus. For all you video game fans let’s start off with a video game quiz. Who is Mario’s cousin from deep south state Tennessee? As 2022 retires the blinking red light on your xbox it’s time for the Video Game Awards Game of the Year 2022. Heavyweight competitors Elden Ring and God Of War Ragnarok go toe to toe while lightweight kitty simulator Stray knocks your controller off the table. Adapting video games into movies has always been a thing since Angelina Jolie motorboated her rack into Tomb Raider. GOTY 2022 now has the Best Adaption category—BUT which nominee will take it—Arcane: League of Legends, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, The Cuphead Show, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or Uncharted? WAIT WHAT? There’s no Best Horror game category? Clearly the GOTY committee has dropped their controllers on this one. Video Game competition is the Meta OlympicsZuckerberg has been heavily criticized for an uninspired Metaverse experience but who’s stepping up to challenge him? AUSTIN based Bedroom POP duo Solo Solo joins STRIKE A CHORD to discuss their sibling album Pure Graffiti. Greg and John get the show running on the quantum universe road that connects galaxy to galaxy, so what’s the deal with the band’s name Solo Solo? Maybe Hans Solo had some kids we didn’t hear about? Sibling bands are either a hit or a miss. Bands like Oasis, ACDC, Kings of Leon or Radio Head all include kindred band members and family drama, so how does Solo Solo struggle to keep it together? Ticketmaster recently apologized for its ticket debacle with Taylor Swift but responds by saying “it’s in the artists best interest.” So if fans can’t get tickets how does that affect up-and-coming bands like Solo Solo? It takes just one friend to make a solo audience? Who are your idols? Inspired by Nick Drake, known for his one to two minute tracks, we did a song a week for like 20 weeks. The band’s “No Sleep”—“is sort of a short song you want to listen to again.” “At the end of the day the only thing that matters is what comes out of the speakers.” The brothers needed a little help settling on the EP’s name. Chris and Marissa immediately were on board to help.  We came up with its Solo by Solo Solo. We’ll find out what the EP’s official title is later. Listen and Support these Bros: https://www.solosoloband.com/

Episode 1307: The Willowbrook, Writer/Director by Zach Koepp

“Good morning my Loves!”—to quote Ms. Lacey. Zach Koepp joins JUST TALKING to discuss his swiping social media thriller The Willowbrook. Once again the internet is pushing false hopes and pretenses after a renowned wellness influencer invites one of her recently overdosed followers to seek recovery at her small-town manor. The follower quickly realizes at The Willowbrook you LOG IN but you never really LOG OUT—until you're dead! Social media can be an addictive drug: “if we get sucked into that social media world—it’s like the elixir for giving up your individual power.” Writing this film as a thriller is “millennial.” Halloween Ends … horribly we might add. It feels like all of our greatest villains in the last 30 years of cinema have been put out to pasture one by one and now we have our new digital nightmare…social media cult followings. Mental health issues are a hot topic issue for millennials, but you’ll be surprised to find out what inspired Director Zach Koepp to make this film. From becoming online followers to staying at The Willowbrook the film takes time to explore each character’s final destination. Producer Jeffery Reddick (Final Destination franchise) came on board to remind us — you can’t cheat death. BUT how did Koepp’s prank on his younger brother turn into a win years later? This is our brave new world. You have to embrace it — or stay a luddite! Everyone eventually gives into the click and downloads. Remember kids, following influencers on social media will boost their egos. Following Lacey to The Willowbrook will get you killed!

Episode 1304: Red River Road filmmaker, Paul Schuyler and Swedish Indie Rock Band, Bring the Hoax

JUST TALKING

Triple threat (Writer/Director/Actor) Paul Schuyler joins JUST TALKING to discuss his new film Red River Road. It’s Halloween time! The perfect excuse to watch scary movies or better yet—make one starring your own family. Your house becomes a movie set, the wife and kids are the characters, you’re isolated from society, and trapped in a room with psychotic humans — is this a movie or a documentary about Dad disconnecting the WIFI? An electronic pandemic virus starts infecting humans through the internet, distorting your ability to perceive reality. Writing the screenplay for Red River Road was all about taking things down a wormhole. Once you’re disconnected it’s a roller coaster ride into isolation. The film was produced during the COVID-19 pandemic, a story about an internet pandemic during a real pandemic. Could the internet be the worst thing to ever happen to humanity? Have we hit an addictive toxic extinction event? Is social media the virus attacking society just one river away? Watch for yourself, https://www.wytshark.com/

STRIKE A CHORD

STRIKE A CHORD connects with Swedish Indie Rock Band Bring The Hoax. It all started over a shared love for indie rock and red wine. You’ve got to bring your flavor to the game. Stand out from the pack with fuzzy guitar licks and cute firm melodies. After a quick Ancestry DNA test our Host Chris found out Karl was his long-lost Swedish cousin? They both have the same glasses and the same mustache—BUT Swedes look a lot sexier. So, Chris shaves it off LIVE! Hoax’s latest single is “Jonestown” referencing the mass murder-suicide by cult leader Jim Jones in 1978—but, this dark theme is still fun. The band’s Bring The Hoax EP addresses millennial issues about blindly following online celebrities, social media responsibility and self-worth. Episode 1303: Acid Test Writer/Director, Jenny Waldo and Modern Pop Rock, KULICK

JUST TALKING

Writer/Director Jenny Waldo joins JUST TALKING to discuss her debut feature film “Acid Test.” Set in the 90’s “Acid Test” is a female coming of age rebellion story fueled by Riot Grrrl music, a dysfunctional family and LSD. Based on director Jenny Waldo’s personal life the film was part therapy and an opportunity to fill the void of missing female punk film directors since the days of Tank Girl. “Acid Test” is strong with the Riot Grrrl manifesto—heavily influenced by bands like Bikini Kill and lead singer Debbie Harry from Blondie. STRIKE A CHORD

Pop rocker KULICK joins STRIKE A CHORD. What’s the secret to getting over 3 million streams on Spotify KULICK? Uncheck the box, get the record label off your back, indulge yourself into the music and the streams will flow! Pop formula music gets predictable. Every artist has the moment when they need to timestamp the label and go off script. The latest album Everyone I Know Will Die (Deluxe Edition) does just that. Pop or NOT to Pop, KULICK influences range from REO Speedwagon to Tom Petty.  A very cool feature on the LP are 5 reimagined acoustic tracks with music videos. If you play guitar you get it.  The strings count but what type of guitar strings are “Necessities (Stripped)” for that acoustic jam session — watch the video to find out? It’s said, music is a gift from God so how do you make music with a hearing disability? KULICK accepted the challenge and jumped the hurdle! “Time to Go” is another deep track about life being overwhelming: “I still don’t want to die because it’s too good, I want more life.” Don’t Ghost me Bro! Ghost song writers have always been a thing but is it time to accept facts and give credit? Support KULICK! Support and listen: http://kulickofficial.com

Episode 1302: HenricK The WrecK, Video Game Contributor and Charleston SC Indie Rock band, Whitehall

HenricK The WrecK joins JUST TALKING to talk all things GAMING. Cyberpunk developers CD Red have announced a sequel to Johnny Silverhand's storyline played by Keanu Reeves in Cyber Punk 2077 for the upcoming expansion update, Phantom Liberty. Netflix is working on a new season for The Witcher 3—I don’t remember watching season 2? Nintendo revealed the first trailer for Super Mario Bros. Movie, a CGI animated film starring Chris Pratt and a mushroom load of additional celebrity voices. The film is scheduled for release in April 2023.  The big question is what game did Mario first appear in? A pause button of silence as Overwatch has been taken offline—BUT press the start button of relief because Overwatch 2 is here to keep gamers happy. Rockstar’s GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto) game-in-progress version was leaked all over the internet. The binary oil spill caused massive virtual car traffic jams and catastrophic damage to the virtual META environment—the penguins from Happy Feet are protesting in choreographed dance patterns.  BREAKING NEWS!  The glory hole leaked new features such as weapons, upgrades and customizations—BUT gamers are excited about this feature the most, returning to Vice City not Reality City! Getting back to sweaty nerd reality. Twitch-Con is happening right now October 2022—AND there's also the early release of Scorn, a game inspired by H.R. Giger’s (Alien). The game is centered around bone and flesh, which coincidentally is what Twitch-Con is all about. https://www.twitchcon.com

Indie Rock band Whitehall joins STRIKE A CHORD. The 4 dudes with long hair in a white room with 3 pictures behind them from Charleston, South Carolina U.S.A says it all. Whitehall has their new album Maizy dropping next year 2023. Their lead single, “Rose” is a chill in the heart vibe with a peppery edge—perfect for the Cali dream, driving down a highway with the sun on your back. Making the album Maizy these guys pulled an old Rolling Stones move. They drove up into the mountains and cut an album — kick ass! The Maizy drew inspiration from their manager’s dog. The dog’s calming Gandhi-like presence helped ease anxiety, allowing connection through the cosmos and barking out the lyrics! WHAT does the lyric “drunken telephoner” mean? It’s a reference to Slaughter House 5 by Kurt Vonnegut — is this a dark metal band hiding in the shadows? Special congrats! “It changed our lives.” Whitehall is opening for the Goo Goo Dolls with their “Chaos In Bloom” Tour 2022. “It’s a childhood dream come true.” Oooh my-lanta this band knows how to bring bangers! Episode 1211: Bad Year, Midwest Punk Rock and Poe the Passenger, Alt-rock

2 kickass bands join STRIKE A CHORD this week to end our 12th season on a high note! From Los Angeles, California alternative rock band Poe the Passenger talks about their new LP “ALINEA.” AND Midwest punk rockers Bad Year breakdown how best songs are breakup songs. “ALINEA” is Poe the Passengers second album and a new beginning for the band. “It’s bit edgier—we wanted to go a bit deeper emotionally.” AND they did!  The LA rockers hit the target on the bullseye featuring tracks about social problems, personal growth, community, etc. There’s a sense of urgency with this record. The band talks about writing the lyrics to this album within a 30-day writing challenge. Like many bands Poe the Passenger felt the weight of the pandemic pressure crushing down and with that much heat you’re going to form diamonds like “Strangers.” This high-energy track rocks hard with a deep message about feeling distressed and torn apart at the seams—BUT  it’s the music video that brings everything back together. If you can’t see Poe the Passenger live on stage, consider watching them in the Metaverse. The band teams up with the Time Lapse Project hosting a visual event space at Stageverse. They’re called Bad Year—BUT they’re having a good time! Milwaukee punk rockers are holding the scene down with heartfelt tracks like “Killing Me.” “It’s a little personal—those are always the best songs, breakup… heartbreak songs.” Deep down everyone loves sad songs. The band opens up about leaving things open to interpretation. “Countless nights of letting the writing process flow and trying to come up with cool guitar lines.” “Black Out” is a track inspired by pyromania and serial killers. JUST TALKING

Returning Guest Catherine Barnes joins JUST TALKING with her Folk Rock band entourage Calamity. When a Vegas club gig at the Cavern goes south the ladies make a break for the Mexican border in this comedy action radio play “Trouble a Calamity Adventure.” Nisha Catron and Cathryn Beeks started the project with Catherine Barnes after watching a James Bond solo show. Inspired by true shit hitting the fan it wasn’t difficult for the band to create an action, murder drama comedy radio play about calamity—it actually happened! Radio plays are making a revival.  Batman Unburied “baterangs” Joe Rogan from Spotify’s number 1 podcast—holy WTF Batman! “There’s something amazing about listening, painting an image in your mind, plus it's way cheaper than CGI — Calamitization!” Rumor has it there’s a Harry Styles rock musical in development. STRIKE A CHORD

Vocalist Chris Hoffman of Wolf Rd. joins STRIKE A CHORD to speak on love, loss and rock. Wolf Rd’s new single “Way Down” is about picking up the pieces after getting your heart broken during a pandemic relationship — where’s the vaccine for that? Everybody hates Chris… or is it everybody loves to break up with Chris? Whatever—social media can be a cruel reminder that your EX is having more fun without you in the Metaverse.  Technology can offer digital salvation in an analog world —BUT the future is “sex dolls!” When was the last time you had a good song? “As Good As It’s Gets” is a cathartic pop punk track—AND the music video has a hidden message for the fans. The long argued controversial topic of Backing Tracks has resurfaced once again causing a “fractured’ metal community — Backing track or not to Backing track—that is the question.  Keep it real and raw! FRACTURE EP release “Reflections of Regret” is an angry record without a lot of forgiveness.  Hasselbrink had to get a lot off his chest—SCREAM his frustrations to the world!  We listened and head banged in agreement—church is out! “Crestfallen” FRACTURE’s debut music video opens with a voice over: “and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others, I want no one to escape”—a line from Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.  Damaged vocal cords are real when singing heavy metal.  Vocalists like M. Episode 104: OFF THE FRET with Miami, Florida Alt Indie Band CANNIBAL KIDS | Chris Collins Show

Living in the city we all become “Urban Explorer’s”, some times it’s hiking trailing or maybe driving out to country side at national park or in the case of the Cannibal Kids, exploring abandoned scary as hell places while just a little high. Miami is known for it’s white-sand beaches, non-stop nightlife, warm weather and Mormon fashion! — there’s been a crime, call Miami Vice! Their latest track Jeans opens with the lyrics “Maybe it’s time that I open up, a pair of jeans just to say what’s up!” Opening your jeans for love can be scary. But don’t worry, the track Falling in Love at Wii Sports Resort, has a great synth pop beat, you can feel the Miami sun warming your Banana Boat covered skin on South Beach while sipping a cocktail. Dolly Parton said "Love is something sent from heaven to worry the hell out of you.” well according to the Cannibal Kids — the future is digital, fall in love with a computer but only if you have a high speed fiber internet or the Love Connection will be disconnected. This pandemic has got us anxious and questioning our sanity at the same time. Hobbies are a great way to release stress; try switching the stickers on your Rubric’s Cube because you can’t solve the puzzle, untangling an unlimited number of Yo-Yo knots and reliving your former Dungeon and Dragons memories or start the Bedroom Pop Tour on Youtube. I just want to outside, I don’t want loose my mind, Go Outside is the perfect track to describe how we’re all feeling right now. Episode 1114: Alt Indie Rock band Leaving For Arizona and Andrea Van Landingham, author of Hollywood Horrors: Murders, Scandals, and Cover-Ups from Tinseltown

JUST TALKING

Author, Andrea Van Landingham joins JUST TALKING to discuss her new book: Hollywood Horrors: Murders, Scandals, and Cover-Ups from Tinseltown.  The title is mouth full — hmmmm, that’s how you get past the green room folks.  What makes a Millennial want to write about old Hollywood scandals?  Salacious celebrity affairs have always captured the imagination of fans. Hollywood Horrors… is a collection of naughty adventures, gossip tales and hotel rendezvous—kinda like “the TMZ of dead people.”  American playwright David Mamet joked about writer’s block on REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER — “I can’t afford to have those moments.”  Andrea’s advice, find artistic inspiration, do other things, go into chill mode and keep typing till something clicks. How does one find the time to write a book? — have a “pandemic baby.” From the off screen debauchery of the silent era, to countless dramatic and mysterious deaths, to the sinister past lives of world-famous LA landmarks, vestiges of Hollywood’s checkered past can still be found all over the city. Check out the book on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Hollywood-Horrors-Scandals-Cover-Ups-Tinseltown/dp/1493060074

STRIKE A CHORD

Charlotte, North Carolina 5 piece band Leaving For Arizona puts the camera on wide angle to include: Lance Johnson (Vocalist), Jonathan Aviles (Guitarist), Alex Tyner (Guitarist), Aubrey Hollopeter (Drummer), Cameron Gainey (Bassist) on STRIKE A CHORD.  Aubrey has enough Big Boy Energy to keep Will Smith in check—if they get out of hand there’s a drumstick to set things right! The band is still in North Carolina, so why call it Leaving For Arizona? — legend’s say it was over a girl… we’ll never know. Millennials need to learn how to live in the moment. The band's brand new single—AND World PREMIERE: “Number Stationssings out—“stop wishing away those years, enjoy them while you’re here, they’ll be gone before you know so hold on and don’t let go.” What comes first, the chicken or the egg? Or in music terms, the lyrics or the melody?  Leaving for Arizona starts with the melody, then a baseline, then drum-line and by that point the lyrics write themselves — it’s so easy.  “Déjà vu is about “instant chemistry”, a collection of past dating experiences from all the band members.  “Conversations,” the last song on the track, finds yourself reminiscing about past emotions and simple conversations—BUT an open book where you get to create the next chapter. Leaving For Arizona is headed in a new, more purposeful direction and you can hear it on their EP “MISSING OUT.” Follow and Support at: www.leavingforarizona.com

JUST TALKING

Gen Z Critics Co-Founder Elizabeth 'Betsy' Kim joins JUST TALKING to predict 2022 Oscars.  Oscar season 2022 is here and who grabs the golden trophy for Millennials and Gen Z fans? — CODA—nothing else, just CODA.  You can measure the value of a film by questioning whether it’s worth your money or your time.  Relying on cinematic stereotypes is lazy story telling—nerdy Asians, British villains, German Nazis and uncultured countries.  Why keep remaking movies with Hollywood color-casting?  Why are we letting diversity quotas ruin movies?  Aren’t show runners doing their homework when there’s already established franchise material?  Look at Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince in The Prince of Persia, Tom Cruise as The Last Samurai and John Cho as Spike Spiegel in Netfix Cowboy Bebop adaptation—this should be a wake-up call! Follow Gen Z critics: https://genzcritics.com

STRIKE A CHORD

Singer/Songwriter Sophia Marie joins STRIKE A CHORD from Washington D.C. to discuss her debut EP entitled “Foreigner.” When Sophia isn’t recording music she’s at Georgetown University writing papers, supporting her sorority organization and working at an internship—she is busy! Coming from the West Coast to the East Coast can take some adjustment time. West coast people generally have a really chill vibe.  “On the East coast everyone is into consulting, politics and a cut-throat mentality.”  “Foreigner” EP track “Venice Beach to Washington D.C,” is a legally blonde song embracing the challenge of transitioning from one place to the next—finding your own voice and not relying on politicians and celebrity elites to tell you what to believe in!  Sophia’s single “Foreigner” cautions those seduced by romanticism to fall in love with the person, not just the foreign accent. WHAT DO YOU DO? Speed (1994).  This one is pretty easy.  You’re watching a cut scene and your girlfriend calls, do you pick up or ignore the call? — you pick up and ignore the call until the cut scene is over, right?  Top games of 2022: ELDEN RING and Horizon Forbidden West are going toe to toe for game of the year.  Valve Steam Deck takes a stand against NFT's blockchain technology and cryptocurrency.  While Amazon says Bye Felicia! to the gaming console (PlayStation, Switch, Xbox). It’s all about cloud gaming now.  All you need is a Luna controller and a Smart TV to play the latest titles.  OR will it end up like Google Stadia's cloud gaming platform—dead flat as Mario smashed mushrooms!!!???

Episode 1108: Zacharias Vamvakousis, EyeHarp Developer

The idea for the EyeHarp was born in 2010, when a musician friend of Zacharias Vamvakousis was involved in a serious motorcycle accident, and it was unclear if he would be able to play music ever again. At that time, Zacharías realized that there was no musical instrument accessible for quadriplegic people, and he began developing the Eyeharp. Eyeharp is a social project with the mission of improving the quality of life of people with disabilities through music. EyeHarp is the first musical instrument that allows people with disabilities to learn and play music with gaze or with head movements.

Episode 1107: Henrik, Video Game Contributor

The Chris Collins Show welcomes our newest CCS Contributor HenriK The WrecK.  Henrik will be dropping the latest Video Game related news, reviews and boos! This week we’re talking about video game TV and film adaptations.  In 2022 alone there are about 40 shows hitting streaming services and theaters between Netflix, Paramount +, Amazon, Sony and HBO Max.  Critics and fans should be dripping in nerd drool—BUT with so many releases suffering from bad casting, bad writing, and poor visuals — are they worth watching?  You know what the millennials say. YOU go WOKE you go BROKE?  Horror and campy action is a marriage made in heaven when you’re playing a video game—BUT even Sony’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) live action movie made flesh eating zombies go vegan???  Playing video games is a lot like smoking the devil’s lettuce—it’s an escape from reality — like weed! There’s an estimated 3.2 billion Gamers across the globe.  What about the next generation consoles and PC’s to meet the demand?  It used to be, insert the cartridge or cd, wait for the loading screen and press A on your controller.  The economics of gaming is more complicated.  There’s MTX (microtransactions), game subscriptions, game passes, seasonal passes and now game NFT’s (Non-Fungible Token).  Game companies love it and Gamers hate it — is this just another cash grab?  With a global chip shortage and not enough next generation PS5’s and Xbox’s to go around, is this the end of the console wars — do the PC’s win?

Episode 1101: #1 Billboard Artist & Actress - Joy Villa, The Contrast

BILLBOARD Artist, Actress, Singer-song writer and Executive Producer, Joy Villa joins JUST TALKING to talk about her latest film—The Contrast.  Joy plays Maria, who on the day before her wedding to a hipster playboy meets an Army Colonel, and struggles to decide between obligation and love.  The Contrast was adapted from Royall Tyler’s 1787 stage play but 235+ years later has society really changed? What attracted Joy to the character Maria?  When writer/producer Chris Johnson says you’re the perfect Maria—you take the role!  Wait!  Was that Joy Villa in Hero’s from back in the day? In the early days Joy got some industry push back because of her tats, unique style and attitude — “you need to be like everyone else—commercial.  Joy’s response, “I’ll come back to the industry when the industry is ready for me!” And she IS ready! The Contrast has millennial jokes, contemporary style and handsome men for the ladies.  BUT it also addresses an existential life question—do I please my family and society or go with my heart?  The Contrast is a millennial romantic comedy.  It’s relatable and fun.  In 2017 Joy’s “I Make The Static” made it to #1 on iTunes and Amazon music—“every voice should be heard.”  There’s a voice that sings to us, reminds us to be open to all walks of life and brings us nothing but “Joy.”   Watch The Contrast on Amazon Prime January 18th 2022.
