Season 4 Ep:22 "1 of 1" Oliver and Marc Cohen

Season 4 Ep:22 "1 of 1" Oliver and Marc Cohen

On this episode of the podcast we chat with Oliver and Marc Cohen. Oliver is a young man that I recently got to know via his delivery of one mean sales pitch. I initially had no intention of using anyones services that morning but our man would not take no for an answer. After convincing me that my windows needed washing I was able to strike up a conversation with Oliver and really get to know him. I was becoming very apparent to me that this was not your average 11 year old and that I was dealing with something different. His knowledge of sales and his singleminded focus struck me as different, a 1 of 1 if you will. As someone who works with kids for a living it was quite easy to see that Oliver was operating at a different level. I also brought his father Marc in to pick his brain some and see if this entrepreneurial was born or bread into him. In what had to be one of my more fun conversations we chat with both Oliver and Marc and get to know them a heck of a lot more. Hope you enjoy this episode of the podcast and thank you for listening.

On this episode we chat with one of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu's finest practitioners and educator Professor Robert Drysdale. Drysdale head instructor at Zenith Jiu Jitsu takes us on a BJJ history journey and sheds some light on its current influence. I must admit there was a lot that I was not aware of and it was refreshing to learn about the current model that Carlson Gracie popularized years ago. We also chat about a number of other topics such as winning the ADCC title and Jiu Jitsu in Mixed Martial Arts. Thanks Robert for stopping by the show and chopping it up with us on The Be Someone Podcast.

Season 4 Ep: 19 "Raising Hell" David Reza

Season 4 Ep: 19 "Raising Hell" David Reza

On this episode of the podcast we sit and chat with David Reza, a friend of mine from Gracie Barra The Woodlands. I've known Dave for years now but after our conversation I had to step back and ask myself did I really know him. I found out so many interesting things about my buddy, so much makes sense now after our conversation. He really restored faith in my belief of people and how through adversity they can become their best self. He is on the precious of making his pro mma debut after a sparkling run at the amateur level. When he steps inside the cage there is literally nothing his opponent can throw at him that life hasn't tried already. I feel honored that Dave opened up to me and hope you enjoy this wonderful story told first hand by the man who lived it.

Season 4 Ep: 18 "Make your own luck" Mitch Melton

Season 4 Ep: 18 "Make your own luck" Mitch Melton

On this episode of the pod we chat with Conroe High School senior linebacker Mitch Melton. Mitch was a little late arriving to the party but there is certainly not a lack of dance partners who wish to acquire his football skills. His story is one that demonstrates that the path to our goals is not often a straight line. Whether it be moving from South Texas up to Conroe in hopes of being noticed by the college scouts or switching positions and becoming one of the best linebackers in the state of Texas. One thing is for certain and that is Mitch has been flanked with great role models and coaches along the way. Whether it be Coach Grant of the Fury 7v7 football family or his strong willed mother who made the move to help her son fulfill his potential. I can not say enough good things about the young man and you will just have to give the podcast a listen for yourself. In closing I can sum Mitch up in a few words, he is what happens when a battering ram merges with a super computer... I tell no lies!

Season 4 Ep: 17 "Motivated" Aedan Lewis

Season 4 Ep: 17 "Motivated" Aedan Lewis

On this episode of the pod we sit and chat with Aedan Lewis a high school senior who is looking to fulfill his god given potential. At 6'4 and about 200 lbs Aedan has all the physical attributes one needs to make any big time college program come knocking at the door. He has had to fight through some adversity and rehab from a couple of injuries. At his size and weight Aedan is normally the quickest and fastest on the court or the football field which in itself makes him an intriguing prospect. We chatted with Aedan a little to see his motivations and what he is hoping to do this senior season at Lake Creek High School. I know that if the young man stays healthy he will have no shortage of major colleges courting him for his skills and talent. We at The Be Someone Podcast want to wish you the best of luck this school year and know the best is yet to come.

Season 4 Ep: 16 Culture Inc "Stay Woke"

On this episode we sit and chat with 2X Reality of Wrestling Tag Team Champions Culture Inc. If you have an eye on the indie scene you would know these young men have a rocket strapped to their backs and getting a major push. This dynamic team has athleticism on lock and the mouth piece of Nick J Holiday to pub them on the mic. Trust me when I say these young men are the future of the tag team division and do not be surprised when you see them signed to major promotion sooner rather than later.

Season 4 Ep: 15 "The Keyes Ingredients" Michelle Keyes

Season 4 Ep: 15 "The Keyes Ingredients" Michelle Keyes

On this episode we chat with Michelle Keyes of "The Keyes Ingredients." I met Michelle through a mutual friend of ours Dr. Jesse Robinson. He had informed me of a vibrant and very informative colleague of his that had one whale of a story. After hearing a brief synopsis I made it a point to reach out immediately and nail down a podcast with Michelle. Her story captivated my heart and attention, a parents worst nightmare realized to say the least. Know one can prepare you for the news that your child has cancer but with Michelle's tenacity and grit they eventually got safely to the other side. Through the process she educated herself in all aspects of mind, body, and spirit which lead to the healing process. She has taken the nutritional information she learned on her journey and is using it to educate the people of her community. It was an honor and pleasure to sit and learn about her families journey and I know for a fact you will enjoy it to. Thank you for tuning into The Be Someone Podcast we appreciate each and every listen.

Season 4 Ep: 13 "Undeniable" Tice Williams

Season 4 Ep: 13 "Undeniable" Tice Williams

On this episode of the podcast we chat with my day one Tice Williams. He is a young man that I have known since he was about 5 years of age. Even way back when you could tell that he had some special qualities and traits that would separate him from the rest of the pack. Fast forward 13 years and he is on the precipice of having a monster senior season for the Conroe Tigers at safety. He recently committed to Boise State to play football and continue his education. The road has not been easy but at the end of the day it has helped shape him into the fine young man he is today. I am super proud to call this young man a friend and can not wait to see what the future has in store for him. Big thanks to Fury 7v7 football family for helping him have a platform to show his skills and talents on the big stage. Hope you enjoy this episode of the podcast.

Gaspar is a soft spoken and reserved individual that comes alive when the bright lights hit the stage. Formally a musician in a punk rock band Gaspar decided to give his dream of becoming a pro wrestler a go after being approached at the gym. Fast forward a few months later and Gaspar walked into Booker T's Reality of Wrestling ready to give it go. It looks as if he made a great choice in chasing his dragon. He is set to defend his title this weekend at ROW's Summer of Champions. Get to know this rising star who has the look and the physique to make a run all the way to the top.

Season 4 Ep: 10 "Top Gun" Sean Kennard

Season 4 Ep: 10 "Top Gun" Sean Kennard

On this episode we chat with my good friend "The Top Gun" Sean Kennard. Sean is a gentleman that lives by the credo "Stay Dangerous" which actually makes a lot of sense. He has served as part of the SWAT Team team, law enforcement trainer, and mixed martial arts champion. This allows Sean to walk into any room and instantly become the most dangerous man in the room. What this allows him to do is be calm and peaceful regardless of the situation. On top of that it gives him the confidence to know that if shit hits the fan he and his loved ones will be alright. I am a big fan and proponent of this line of thinking because it is the insecure people of the world that cause a vast majority of todays problems. He is also about to start his own business where he teachers home owners fire arm and home safety techniques though visits and camps. He has a ton going for him and I know this champion of combat will do anything he sets his mind too. Sidebar him and Chad Robo recently started the "Stay Dangerous" podcast and I can not personally wait to check it out.

On this episode we chat with life long magician Curt Miller. Curt was recently performing here in The Woodlands TX and I was lucky enough to chat with him after the show. Our conversation went in a number of different directions but always circled back to human engagement and interaction. I learned so much from this top of the food chain performer. I even came to the conclusion that performing magic and educating our youth are not that much different. Thank you Curt for giving me a bit of your time this evening. You are a man of many talents and I feel as if you are just scratching the surface of what you can do. Good luck on bringing live magic shows back to the masses. A little magic is exactly what the world needs at this moment.

On this episode we chop it up with Pedigo Submission Fighting athlete and Mt. Vernon HS Wresting Coach Alejandro Wajner. We get into the nuts and bolts of growing the newest program up in the midwest. Alejandro and Coach Pixley are slowly building a juggernaut and the surrounding area is starting to take notice. With reduced rates and more personal attention to be able to give to the athletes it is only a matter of time until Illinois is theirs. Season 4 Ep: 2 "Focused" Kaleb Smith

Season 4 Ep: 2 "Focused" Kaleb Smith

On this episode of the podcast we chop it up with Kaleb Smith an incoming senior wrestler at College Park High School. Kaleb first caught my attention years ago as a junior high student who made friends with me based on our love for grappling. I believe he saw the cauliflower ear and knew that he had a kindred spirit in me. Fast forward a few years and him along with his brother Jacob became standouts in their schools wrestling program. Jacob would go on to win a state championship and wrestle in college. Kaleb on the other hand has wrestled masterfully but has come up a hair short in his race for the state crown. In his most recent state run he wrestled with a torn shoulder that would require surgery after the tourney. He has been on the shelf for 6 weeks now and chomping at the bit to get back on the mats. This down time has allowed him to rest and reflect on what he needs to get that elusive state crown. There is not a doubt in my mind that he will achieve his goal of becoming a state champion this upcoming year. He has the training partners, family support, and coaching staff to make the aspiration a reality. On top of that he is a good kid that comes from an awesome family. We hope you enjoy this episode of the podcast with Kaleb Smith

Season 4 Ep: 1 "The Bloodline" Zilla Fatu

Season 4 Ep: 1 "The Bloodline" Zilla Fatu

On this episode we chat with rising star Zilla Fatu of the famous Fatu Bloodline. Zilla is a young man who grew up inside the pro wrestling world. His father was the world beater known as Umaga and he is kin to The Rock Dwayne Johnson, Roman Reigns, and the Uso's just to name a few others. He has arrived at this juncture in his life with his eyes set on the family business. As a young man he faced adversity early and often as he grew up morning the death of his father at the age of 8. This even led to some hardships and poor choices which got him incarcerated for a good while. Instead of blaming up and blaming the world for his mishaps he grew and matured into the young man he is today. He is a modern day Rocky Balboa success story, he is hoping to take his hardships and utilize them for fuel as he makes a run at the pro wrestling world. He is currently training under 2 time WWE Hall of Fame inductee Booker T at the Reality of Wrestling. He has everything one could want in a prospective super star and now it is on him to walk this path into stardom. I have been very impressed with this young man since meeting him about a month ago. I believe he has "IT" and it is only a matter of time before he's knocking at his Uncle Roman Reigns door ready to take the seat at the head of the table. Hope you enjoy this episode of the podcast and the entire season 4 line up we have for you.

Season 3 Ep: 28 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Public Education

Season 3 Ep: 28 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Public Education

On this episode we take a deep dive into two areas of my life that I feel strongly about and that is public education & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I really feel as if there is an opportunity for us to marry the two for the betterment of our student population. In particular I want to go after that tough to reach 2% to 5% of students that eat up a disproportionate amount of our admin and teachers time. In doing so I really feel that we can impact and shape the culture of our schools in a positive manner. I know jiu jitsu has been a catalyst for growth in my life and I would like to share that with our students that may need a different type of intervention. The world is changing and so should our methods when it comes to reaching our youth. If you are a believer in the gentle art and think it can be used as a catalyst for good I encourage you share this podcast. Lex, Rogan, Jocko and any of my other jiu jitsu brothers out there with a platform lets talk and get this ball rolling.

When we think of the greats in this sport past and present one starts to notice that there is no off switch, they are on all the time. Dan wants to take his talents behind the camera and help those aspiring performers who are wishing to take it to the next level. His heavy emphasis on the outside the ring action is something that has been neglected or been given very little attention. Dan wants to bring that part of the wrestling game to the forefront and I must say I do believe he is on to something. Hope you enjoy this episode with Dan Miller and have a blessed day.
