Christianity and Lifestyle
By Christianity and Lifestyle
We have been called to a lifestyle of Christlikeness and that should reflect in all we do. You do not necessarily have to announce to the whole world that you are a Christian. Your way of life should lead people to Christ. Remember, 2 Corinthians 5:20 says, “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”

Discipleship Training: Quiet Time (Part 1)
In Mark 1:35, Jesus rose up early before morning and went to a solitary place to pray. Most of the times recorded in the gospels where Jesus was found praying are times He prayed alone. What is my point here? Congregational worship and fellowship with other believers is immensely vital. However, it can never replace personal devotions with God. The truth is that no one can have a consistent and systematic spiritual growth without a dedication to personal daily quiet time and fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
In this audio, Michael shares an in depth study on the topic of quiet time. What does quiet time really mean? Why is it important at all to have daily quiet time as a Christian? What is the big deal? And how do you actually plan your quiet time to take hold of your spiritual growth? Find answers to these questions in this audio https://youtu.be/0PrAJnWRJ08
Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed." (Mark 1:35 NKJV)

Christlikeness: The attitude of Jesus
Hello, welcome to Christianity and Lifestyle channel, making Christ known everywhere.
Today’s topic for reflection is Christlikeness: The attitude of Christ.
Our key test is taken from Philippians chapter 2 verse 5 (Amplified version): Have this same attitude in yourselves which was in Christ Jesus [look to Him as your example in selfless humility]
I saw a skit few years ago. A young man went to the church and met a couple of people cleaning the church. He saw one particular lady who was busily scrubbing the floor. After the man was done with what he went to do at the church, he saw this lady preparing to go home. This man "out of pity" for this "poor lady" (so he thought) decided to offer her a ride back home. After a short conversation with the lady, the man realised that the lady he pitied was financially stable and owned a plush car as compared to the man's old and rugged car. One lesson the man learnt was to be humble. He looked down on the lady just because he didn't even know who she was and concluded that she is a poor person.
I have heard of people bragging about their achievements, awards, qualifications, wealth, etc. I am not against anyone showing off to the world what they have achieved, but this should be done in humility. As we identified in our previous post, to be Christlike demands humility. Paul put it this way: “Have this same attitude in yourselves which was in Christ Jesus [look to Him as your example in selfless humility] (Philippians chapter 2 verse5 Amplified version). Imagine the Creator of the world stooping so low as to be born in a manger (Genesis chapter 1 verse 1 to 3 and John chapter 1 verse 1 to 3. He did not choose the palace, nor rich parents. Therefore no one has any excuse about the difficulty in relating to Christ’s humility.
The high and low, rich and poor, royal birth and servant-birth etc. can all look to Jesus as our perfect example of humility. Therefore, we are encouraged to "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves. Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others (Philippians chapter 2 verse 3 to 4). Humility is not low self-esteem or belittling oneself. It is an attitude of service with love and considering others with love as well.
Christlikeness without looking unto Jesus as our example of selfless humility is no Christlikeness at all. With this mindset let us consider ways we can develop Christ's humility:
- A personal dedication to imitate Christ's humility
- Fasting
- Choose your companions wisely (walk with the humble)
- Move away from the things that lead to pride.
Remember, having Christ's attitude of humility is the life that pleases the Father.

God bless you for joining us for today’s reflection. Until we come your way again, remain blessed.
Christlikeness: Follow the example of Jesus' humility
Hello, welcome to Christianity and Lifestyle channel, making Christ known to everyone.
Today’s topic for reflection is “Christlikeness: Following Jesus’ example of Humility.”
Our key test is taken from John chapter 13 verse 15: I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
Just before Jesus was arrested and died, He bent down and washed the feet of His disciples. Peter was adamant to have the Lord wash his feet but Jesus told him that “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me" (John chapter 13 verse 8). Why did Jesus wash the feet of His disciples? In ancient Israel, washing of feet (because of the untarred roads) was the duty of the least servant in the house. Thus, Jesus demonstrated to His disciples that to be His follower demands a servant-attitude towards one another. It is not about being bullied or belittled, but the willingness to serve one another in love.
We have been called to be like Christ and Jesus himself stated that, "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you"(John chapter 13 verse 15). In Christ, service to one another is done in love. Christian leaders are expected to have servant-leadership. Christians are expected to have the same attitude of humility that Christ demonstrated. Jesus said, “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you" (John chapter 13 verse 13 to15).
Christlikeness includes demonstrating the attitude of humility. Paul writing to the Philippian church stated that "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! (Philippians chapter 2 verse 5 to 8).
Jesus' humility did not go unacknowledged. Paul continued to exult the Philippian church that because of the humility demonstrated by Jesus, "God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Phillippians chapter 2 verse 9 to 11).
The way to get to the top is by going down. May we humble ourselves as we aim to be like Christ. Never pray that God should humble you. You can find out from Nebuchadnezzar. We have to humble ourselves before we will be lifted up by the Lord.
To know more about humility, I recommend our book on Humility to you.

Humility: Understanding the meaning and nature of humility
Pride and humility are the direct opposite of each other. They cannot co-exist, nor can they tolerate each other. Pride is an enemy of humility and humility, an enemy of pride. A person may switch between being proud and humble at different points in time but cannot be both proud and humble at any particular moment. There are no middle grounds. In other words, at any specific time, a person is either proud or humble and never in between the two. In this video, we discuss the meaning and nature of humility. #humility #humble #lifestyle

Christlikeness: Trained like the teacher
When one enrolls as an apprentice of another person, it is expected that at the end of the training, the fully trained apprentice will have the skillset of the teacher. In the same way, at the end of a concentrated study such as a PhD, the student is fully trained in the chosen field and most times reflects the expertise of the supervisor. To be like the teacher doesn’t come in a day. The learner has to put in efforts to learn and to be able to replicate the acquired knowledge. This is similar to our Christian experience. When we come to Christ, we have Jesus as our standard and ultimately aim to be like Him.

Christlikeness: Reflecting God's Son (Romans 8:29)
Have you ever heard someone say that “God is God and man is man. We can never be able to reflect the image of God on earth.” I have heard people say this on several occasions. I don’t dispute them that we cannot become like God in relation to His deity and sovereignty. However, from Genesis to Revelation, scripture confirms that God has before the foundation of the world destined man to reflect the image of His Son. Christlikeness is symbolized all through scripture. In fact, this decision was made even before we were born. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.(Romans 8:29) #CHRISTLIKENESS #REFLECTINGJESUS
Fishing at the Master's word- Luke 5:5
Bad business days can happen to anyone; whether you work in the corporate world or in the marketplace. Simon (Peter) and his fishing colleagues had a bad fishing day. They had worked all night and caught nothing. Jesus’ requested to use Simon’s boat as a podium to preach. Afterwards, Jesus said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:4). Simon’s reply was that they had toiled all night but at Jesus’ words, they will let down the nets. They “caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink” (Luke 5:6-7). What a miracle? The same sea that refused to give fish all night long obeyed the voice of Jesus and spewed out enough fish to cause the nets to break and the boats to sink. When Jesus is at work, there is no barrenness, there is no lack, there is no deficiencies. Jesus completes all our needs.
