Adding a dose of joy to life

Adding a dose of joy to life

This week on the podcast we're talking about Joy - especially how to make time for joy. Did you know you could schedule in joy?
You can! And this episode is giving you all the how-tos. But be assured... this isn't about an app or a new day planner. It's about intention and more importantly realizing that joy is found in how you feel, not what you do.

"Our joy doesn't run dry because of what we have on the calendar. Our joy runs dry because we don't make time to nurture it with things that matter most." - Christie Browning

When leaving your comfort zone is like pulling teeth

When leaving your comfort zone is like pulling teeth

A little unknown fact about me.... I waited until I was 40 years old to get my wisdom teeth pulled. It wasn't that they didn't need to be pulled. They most certainly did, but the fear and anxiety of going in for a procedure like that was too much for me to handle and I put it off for far too long. Looking back on it now, I laugh at the hysterical antics that went along with this wisdom-teeth saga... some of which I share with you in this episode. But, there were some great life lessons that came from this experience which is what I really want to offer you in this episode:

1. Waiting far too long

2. Playing worse care scenario

3. Speak and seek support

I also reference a really fabulous book written by Jennifer Fulwiler entitled, "Your Blue Flame." If you like this podcast...  you'll LOVE Jennifer's book!

Red lights, yellow lights and green lights

Red lights, yellow lights and green lights

Who here hasn't been frustrated while waiting at a red light? Have you ever pushed the gas a bit more to beat a yellow light? I am guilty on both accounts! But what about the red lights we encounter in life? We all want the green lights, but what if there is good to be found in the waiting at a red light in life? And what about those yellow lights... you know the ones where we can slow down a second, reevaluate the traffic flow before jumping out and hitting the gas. Yep, life deals us all the lights, but it's in knowing how to discern them that we reap the greatest lessons and possibly a great reward.

Embracing your gift: An interview with Traci Neal

Embracing your gift: An interview with Traci Neal

Have you ever noticed a gift or talent inside of yourself but maybe been a little apprehensive to step into it? Maybe you recognize a gift, but just not sure how others will receive it if you start living it out? Feel like the thing you are most gifted to do is so far left of what everyone else you know is doing?  This episode is for you!

My guest this week is author, poet and speaker Traci Neal. Although she began writing at age 5, it wasn't until she was 30 that she decided to step into a writing career. Feeling the pressure to fit into the "normal" career path, Traci tried to make teaching her thing, but it just wouldn't work out. That's when she turned back to her gift of writing and embraced what she was most gifted to do.

Connect with Traci:

Catch up with Traci on her website to learn more about her writing and connect to her social media channels.

www.tracinealspeakerpoet.com

About Traci:

Traci Neal began writing at 5 years old. She did not pursue writing as a career until 30. After spending 10 years trying to become a certified elementary school teacher because it appeared to be a more stable career, she finally knew she had to go after her true calling of poetry. Now at 31, Traci is a Children's Book Author, Professional Christian Poet, and Certified Motivational "Youth" Speaker. Her primary goal is to inspire millions of youth and be a positive influence in the world. She wants youth to know they are not alone. Her books target readers for 3rd grade all the way to high school. Traci believes if anyone tells her she can't do something, she will just prove them wrong.

Dialing up your potential for purpose

Dialing up your potential for purpose

Do you feel like you have untapped potential? Is your purpose falling to the wayside? Or maybe purpose is too elusive and vague at the moment.

In this episode, we're diving into three aspects of potential and purpose:

  1. Why is living your purpose so critical
  2. What's keeping you from tapping into your potential
  3. How do you get moving in the right direction

Choosing to not live out your purpose can lead to a lot of frustration because you're playing small. You guts are telling you to be more, do more... but you aren't listening. Your mind and heart are at odds trying to compel you to act, but you don't move. When you're not living your purpose, you can find yourself making excuses as to why you can't and your energy gets drained.

Fear, procrastination, lack of focus and intention, and a lack of support are all things that can hold you back from living out your purpose and unleashing your potential. But there's hope! You don't have to stay stuck. You can get help to move ahead and to move past what's holding you back. Give yourself some time to make it happen. Create space and routines to do the work and start to feel the momentum taking hold. Remember, you can stop. You can rest. But you can't quit.

Choosing a new normal

Choosing a new normal

We've hit 50 episodes! Can you believe it???

Well, in this 50th episode, we're gonna address the elephant in the room... "the new normal" or rather change. If 2020 has taught us anything it's that change happens and we have to learn how to pivot, adapt and evolve as life deals out the changes left and right. But what if change meant choosing. Choosing to embrace a new way of living. Choosing to pair down or eliminate things that don't serve you well. Choosing to focus on who you are rather than all that you do.

I am sharing three key points with you today that will help you choose a new normal for your expectations, time and well-being.

Creating space to breathe

Creating space to breathe

I love this quote from Thomas Kelly: "We have hints that there is a way of life vastly richer and deeper than all this hurried existence, a life of unhurried serenity and peace and power. If only we could slip over into that center."

Life is busy. Our schedules are hectic. We cram a lot into our 24 hours and sometimes we pay the price. We feel stress, anxiety, overwhelm. It's as if the weight of all that we have on our plate is sitting on our chests and we can't breathe. We're being suffocated by all the demands, to-dos and pressures of life.

In this episode, I am sharing some ideas and helpful tools to shift this way of living to a more unhurried serenity, peaceful and powerful way of living. I find this topic to be so critical no matter who you are or where you're from or even what stage of life you may be in because the pace of our lives has a monumental impact on the depth of our lives. When we fall into the trap that our value comes in all that we do instead of simply all that we are, we wear busy and stress as a badge of honor.

So this chat is about creating room to breathe and margin in life. It's not about doing more, faster or more efficient. But it is about pushing out the noise and chaos, pushing out what's not necessary, to allow for what's most important to rise to the surface of our hearts and minds.

If you would like to check out a really great book on the subject, read Keri Wyatt Kent's "Breathe: Creating space for God in a hectic life."

I am also giving you a free e-book from yours truly. It's all about mindsets and methodologies on time management. You can get yours at www.christiebrowning.com/time

Resistance is a good thing

Resistance is a good thing

We know when someone is being resistant. We know when we're being resistant. It's that uncertainty of not wanting to jump in, reluctant to go for it, hesitation to try something new, the anxious feeling about stepping out of your comfort zone.

But resistance can work in our favor... more than just giving us a good excuse to not push ourselves or leave the safety of what makes us feel comfortable.  In this episode, we explore some ways that resistance hurts us, but more importantly, we look at 3 ways resistance is a big help to us and why we should want more of it.
