Time to get dirty, y'all. Actually, we're getting super clean in this episode, since it's all about coffee enemas and liver flushes! I'm excited to have Ms. Kitty Martone, aka Healthy Gut Girl, back on the podcast talking about something that makes a lot of people squeamish. But this age-old remedy is making the rounds once again beyond just the "alternative" health community as a powerful way to upregulate your liver function and jump-start your hormonal healing. In this week's episode, I go over my most recent blood labs to show you what patterns to look for in your own labs, so you can be more informed when going over results with your doctor.  From a functional standpoint, blood labs are a huge help in determining nutritional deficiencies before they turn into something worse. It explained a whole lot about why I acted the way I acted - especially in my romantic relationships - and why I kept participating in the same patterns over and over again.    And the reality is, how we act (or react) in relationships majorly impacts our nervous system on a daily basis. Season 3, Episode 11: How Your Genes Impact Your Menstrual Cycle w/Christina Sanders
A lot of us might not think about the fact that our genes may be a part of our heavy periods or PMS, or fibroids or cysts.  Or maybe you do, and you are irritated with your parents for the genes they passed down to you! But in reality, it's not as simple as what you got from your parents. AND there's a lot you can do when you understand things like gene mutations, how metabolism and detoxification works in the body, and learning how your dietary and lifestyle choices impact those things.  In other words, you have OPTIONS, once you know what is going on.  This is what I'm chatting about with Christina Sanders, a board-certified nurse practitioner and a nutritional therapy practitioner with 23 years of clinical experience. Season 3, Episode 10: Healing Breast Cancer Naturally with Katrina Foe
We have a powerful episode today with Katrina Foe, Functional Nutritional Therapist, who went through a journey with breast cancer that is a bit different from the norm.  Any way a person with breast cancer decides to move forward with their healing is completely valid, whether natural, integrative, or conventional. And what works for one person won't necessarily work for another.  Katrina shares her journey with utilizing state-of-the-art functional testing in order to learn the root causes of her cancer, as well as specific treatments based on her genetics.  We talk about her learning she had cancer, what her initial steps were, and what became her long-term plan. She also shares a little-known secret about how some women have healed themselves of breast cancer.  Her goal in sharing her story to inspire other women to learn about their different options and to keep asking questions.  Katrina Foe is a Functional Nutritional Therapist,  Pilates Teacher Trainer, and mom of 7. Season 2, Episode 28: Quitting Alcohol For Emotional Well-Being and Hormone Health w/Tēfa Hallock

Season 2, Episode 21: Utilizing The Organic Acid Test (OAT) To Support Your Gut And Hormones w/Christine Garvin
What is the OAT test? OAT stands for Organic Acid Test, and are compounds that show up in the urine that are byproducts of metabolism. Everything we eat, all the toxins we take in, all the supplements we take are metabolized through processes in the gut, liver, and kidneys so that what is no longer needed can be excreted via our sweat, urine, and stool. What’s particularly useful about a test like this is that it can show levels of some of the baddest guys out there, including: *Mold *Yeast *Strains of Clostridia, which are part of dysbiosis in the gut *Oxalates It also shows you: *How well our detox mechanisms are working when it comes to glutathione and B vitamins *Levels of neurotransmitters *What your mitochondria are up to  So yes, it tells us a LOT.  What does this have to do with hormones? Season 2, Episode 17: Synching Your Workout With Your Menstrual Cycle w/Jenni Hulburt
What does fitness mean to you? Is it pushing your body to the limit in order to make gains, or is it pushing yourself to get off the couch to do anything at all? The truth is, neither of these options are the best for your overall health and well-being. And, there is a different way.  In today's episode, I chat with fitness specialist Jenni Hulburt about how to tap into your own body's cycle in order to move in a way that feels best to you.  We talk about how your body needs different movement depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle (and also, where you are in the cycle of the year, as well as your life). Jenni breaks down what types of movement are best during your follicular phase, and then what supports you best during your luteal phase, and finally, your period.  We also discuss how to use your intuition when you’re not motivated or consistent with moving your body. This is a big one for many women who just aren't inclined to move their body because of previous harm from fitness or society's pressures, as well as those who have never felt called to do much movement.  I love Jenni's spiritual and cyclical approach to movement, and I know you will too! While  all of these approaches are necessary in slowing down the spread of the  virus, on the whole, we are not talking about what is necessary to  diminish the impact of the virus on individuals: a healthy immune  system. Season 1, Episode 26: Understanding the GI-Map, MRT Food Sensitivities, and Other Functional GI Labs w/Andrea Dahlman

We didn't have a chance to cover her story during that episode, so I thought I'd bring her back to find out how she first discovered she had PMDD and the ups and downs of healing it over the years. If you haven't heard about PMDD, it stands for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, and is even classified in the DSM-5. Think of it as PMS on steroids. It can include intense mood swings, marked irritability or anger, depression and anxiety in the week leading up to your period (and sometimes longer). BONUS SHORT: EFT To Connect To and Trust Your Higher Self
Last week, I led a class via Zoom where we used movement medicine (a little something I like to call "Metamorphosis Ritual Groove") combined with a spontaneous EFT session on connecting to and trusting your higher self, and finished off with a 20-minute meditation session.  I believe in times like these, we need to use all the tools and magic possible to stay in our bodies, stay safe, and rise above the noise. Movement grounds the body, EFT clears and processes gunked up energy and emotions, and meditation turns down the noise.  A few of the people who were in the class asked afterward to access the spontaneous EFT session once again since it had impacted them so much. So it gave me the idea to share it with you! Episode 15: Vaginal Steaming Can Change Your Menstrual Cycle with Keli Garza
I've known about vaginal steaming (sometimes referred to as "yoni steaming") for a while now. In fact, I probably learned about it the  same way you may have - when Gwyneth Paltrow introduced it to the wider  western world in 2015 via her online magazine, Goop.   There's been a ton of negative press about vaginal steaming since that  time, probably because of Paltrow's assertions of its healing  properties. What is rarely talked about is that vaginal steaming has  been used for thousands of years by nearly all cultures, which Garza  shares on her Vaginal Steam World Map.  And despite all the OB/GYNs that are interviewed for articles condemning  vaginal steaming, Garza lists a few of the US doctors that use steaming  in their practice.  As we talk about in the interview, some of these OB/GYNs have found steaming particularly good for bacterial vaginosis,  which has a high recurrence rate when using prescribed medications.   I was particularly intrigued about using vaginal steaming for fibroids,  which of course I asked Keli about (listen in to hear what she has to  say!).   One other aspect of the "uproar" about vaginal steaming that I want to  point out. Negative articles will often point out that vaginal steaming  has not been shown to offer any benefits, and in fact can be damaging.  But the problem is, there has been no research conducted in this country  to point either way. Yet studies have been conducted in other  countries, including Korea, where steaming is like "getting a manicure,"  it's done so often. So the underlying racism at play - the idea that  other non-white countries science isn't valid - is typical when it comes  to discussions about natural techniques used by indigenous cultures for  most of human time.   And since none of the "experts" claiming vaginal steaming is harmful are  doing any studies to back these claims, Garza decided to commission a  small study called, Fourth Trimester Vaginal Steaming: A Foundational  Study.  The study concluded that: "vaginal steaming has a positive impact on  many of the indicators of postpartum recovery, particularly in the areas  of lowering blood pressure and pulse, uterine restoration, initiating  and expediting waist girth and weight loss, labia healing, the quicker  cessation of uterine bleeding through drawing out lochia, alleviating  suture discomfort, promoting bowel regularity and hemorrhoid reduction."    There are so many hardships women face with their cycle - from excessive  bleeding to no period at all - that vaginal steaming can help with, and  Keli and I discuss these in-depth.    Keli Garza has a Masters degree in International Development graduating  cum laude.
