“Each night, when I go to sleep, I die. And the next morning, when I wake up, I am reborn.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
Maybe not the cheeriest of topics but very real when it comes to sleep anxiety.
Today we look at sleep and death, and how you can be at peace and let go each night with a smile.
"“People say, 'I'm going to sleep now,' as if it were nothing. But it's really a bizarre activity. 'For the next several hours, while the sun is gone, I'm going to become unconscious, temporarily losing command over everything I know and understand. When the sun returns, I will resume my life.'
If you didn't know what sleep was, and you had only seen it in a science fiction movie, you would think it was weird and tell all your friends about the movie you'd seen.
― George Carlin, Brain Droppings""
In today's podcast I will finish Carlin's quote on sleep and dig a bit on what seems so weird and how it can be explained scientifically.
What is the relationship between a smoothie and your sleep? It doesn't seem obvious at first. Smoothies are my favorite thing to suggest to people, who like to skip breakfast... It's morning, they're tired, they cannot stomach having to eat something, it's too much work or because they are so tired, they have the feeling that they're not hungry.
But that step of skipping food in the morning, is actually stressing the body out big time.
In this episode Christine talks about the book “How full is your bucket” by Tom Rath.
- We all have a need for good, whether it is praise or just a kind word.
- On the other hand when we are negative especially towards others, we take water from their bucket so to speak, and it will neither make them happy or us.
Following that philosophy will help you be a better leader, less stressed and a better sleeper.
In this episdoe Christine is going to look at Maslow’s pyramid in relation to sleep showing you how this little element is a key foundational piece:
* LEVEL 1: Physical Survival Needs
* LEVEL 2: Physical Safety Needs
* LEVEL 3: Love and Belonging Needs
* LEVEL 4: Self-esteem Needs
* LEVEL 5: Self-fulfilled (Self-actualised)
(p.s. when Christine discusses point 3 and says 'grumpy, horrible person', she means someone more difficult to fall for, not that being single = grumpy & horrible ;) )
In this episode Christine shares the story of one of her clients, who couldn't find her true voice until she started working with Christine.

Power naps are a great tool to give yourself a natural energy boost for the second half of the day.
Make sure you have 10-30 minutes where you are undisturbed and just listen and relax and have a nap.
