REFLECTION, HOW IT CAN HELP US

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Hi everyone,

So happy to have you back for series 9 - of CHRONIC BUT ICONIC.

I can't believe we are on series 9.

Today, I wanted to discuss the importance of reflection.

YES, reflecting can be tough when you are battling a chronic illness. We mourn our past lives, EVERY DAY. BUT having the bravery and courage to reflect and be open with yourself in that way will really help you in the long term. As you will open your mind up to new opportunities and experiences. We will all deeply deserve. I know this is a hard topic to really dig our teeth into but I hope by the end if the episode you feel encouraged to take a moment to reflect and take on new hobbies, skills, just broadening your horizons.

So that being said let's discuss how this experience has affected us and our personal experiences.

If you don't already, give me a follow on Instagram @sophiewardy , I post daily mental and chronic illness content over there! With great resources and advice..

I would greatly appreciate a review on the podcast and if you can take the time to comment your experiences that really means the world to me as well.

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Hi everyone,

So happy to have you back for series 9 - of CHRONIC BUT ICONIC.

I can't believe we are on series 9.

Today, I wanted to discuss if we have forward planned in the event that become suddenly poorly or our symptoms flare up whilst we are out at an event.

YES, It is key that we have a plan in place just so then we can enjoy the event and not have the worry in the backs of our minds. This may be telling the host about emergency numbers of family and friends to ring is needed, lying down, sipping cold water, taking a support with you to an event.. the list goes on. You know what would make you feel comfortable and who would know what to do if you did suddenly fall poorly.

So that being said let's discuss how this experience has affected us and our personal experiences.

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Hi everyone,

So happy to have you back for series 9 - of CHRONIC BUT ICONIC.

I can't believe we are on series 9.

Today, I wanted to discuss how frightening sharing your story for the first time can be and how we feel about being diagnosed .

YES, a diagnosis provides us with with answers and some comfort. However, unfortunately some times doctors get it wrong and the wrong diagnosis is made. How do we feel about sharing our stories. Do we feel bad when our diagnosis is over turned and we find out we have something else. Have we received trolling or hate for sharing our story?

So that being said let's discuss how this experience has affected us and our personal experiences.

WHY ARE YOU HERE IF YOU ARE SICK?

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Hi everyone,

So happy to have you back for series 9 - of CHRONIC BUT ICONIC.

I can't believe we are on series 9.

Today, I wanted to discuss the judgements that are made on us when we attend events and social gathering when we are still poorly.

YES, we may still be struggling with a range of symptoms but we still want to spend time, see our loved ones and be part of events. With a chronic illness, we don't just have one bad day, every day we are plagued with symptoms we don't get a break. These kinds of judgements can really upset us though, so let's discuss this topic.

So that being said let's discuss how these comments affect us and how we respond to them.

YOU LOOK FINE

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Hi everyone,

So happy to have you back for series 9 - of CHRONIC BUT ICONIC.

I can't believe we are on series 9.

Today, I wanted to discuss how we feel when someone tells us, we look well and we look fine at events.

YES, it is lovely to receive positive compliments, but at the same time it can be heart breaking for us. As we believe that people don't fully understand our illness and much it has taken for us to attend that event, gathering or party. People don't see the pain and suffering behind the brave face and the bright smile.

So that being said let's discuss how these comments affect us and how we respond to them.

So happy to have you back for series 9 - of CHRONIC BUT ICONIC.
I can't believe we are on series 9.

Today, I wanted to talk about the symptoms we experience when we become poorly with an infection or virus and how these symptoms affect us.
YES, infections and viruses will affect us, we aren't immune -nobody is. But sometimes we experience scary, embarrassing and hard symptoms that people can be really judgemental about and hard on us for. When it really isn't our fault. The symptoms are out of our hands.

DIGESTING OUR EMOTIONS

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Hi Guys!

Welcome back to Chronic But Iconic SERIES 8. Yes baby!
This series I really want to focus on our support systems and the support they give us, but with that love, kindness and support comes guilt on our end.
Today we explore and discuss how important it is to show, address and be truthful when it comes to our emotions.
How it truly is so important that we don't just 'put a brave face on,' or filter our emotions in order to feel like we are protecting our loved ones. They want to help us and understand as much as they can and they can only do this if we are truthful with them.
I would love to hear your own personal experience with how you personally handle your emotions and if you find it easy or hard to express them with loved ones.
All that said, let's get into the episode.
I would love to hear your personal stories and feelings about this topic.

JUDGEMENTS IN THE WORKPLACE

JUDGEMENTS IN THE WORKPLACE

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Hi Guys!
Welcome back to Chronic But Iconic SERIES 8. Yes baby!
This series I really want to focus on our support systems and the support they give us, but with that love, kindness and support comes guilt on our end.
Today we explore and discuss how we can be severely judged in the workplace .

Maybe your illness is what costs you the opportunity to be employed by the company as you can't commit to being in the office 5 days a week due to treatments and flare up's.
Maybe other employees make you feel like an outsider because they are jealous that you get more flexibility than they do in regards to working from home some days.
These are just two examples..
But sadly chronic illness sufferers can find the workplace a deeply unhappy and uncomfortable place to be due to the judgements being made about them.
And also we lose the opportunity for many jobs and careers due to our health.
I would love to hear your own personal experience with judgements in the workplace and how this has affected your work life.
All that said, let's get into the episode.
I would love to hear your personal stories and feelings about this topic.

LOVED ONES BEING JUDGED ABOUT YOUR HEALTH AND THEIR SUPPORT

LOVED ONES BEING JUDGED ABOUT YOUR HEALTH AND THEIR SUPPORT

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Hi Guys!
Welcome back to Chronic But Iconic SERIES 8. Yes baby!
This series I really want to focus on our support systems and the support they give us, but with that love, kindness and support comes guilt on our end.
Today we explore and discuss how our loved ones can sadly face a lot of judgements about their support and the love they give us because of our health.
Sadly people love to judge and make assumptions and our loved ones aren't immune from these judgements. They may have their own family and friends who are questioning if being with you is right for them, do they need constant health stress in their life? Is it putting too much of a strain on their life balance? Do they not socialise as much now. It's truly upsetting that they do get questioned and that doubt gets placed on their minds.
I would love to hear your own personal experience with loved ones and if they have ever opened up to you about what others say to them when you aren't around!
All that said, let's get into the episode.
I would love to hear your personal stories and feelings about this topic.

GOALS AND DREAMS - YOU CAN STILL ACHIEVE SO MUCH.

GOALS AND DREAMS - YOU CAN STILL ACHIEVE SO MUCH.

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Hi Guys!
Welcome back to Chronic But Iconic SERIES 8. Yes baby!
This series I really want to focus on our support systems and the support they give us, but with that love, kindness and support comes guilt on our end.
Today we explore and discuss how important it is to still have dreams and goals that we aim for and chase.
Goals can be daunting when suffering from a chronic illness because many of us have had our goals left in tatters due to our health. That doesn't mean we can't set new goals even smaller goals that may seem silly to some people but are big achievements for us. It is also REALLY important that we celebrate all our wins, big and small because it really does empower us and instantly boosts our mood.
I would love to hear your own personal experience with goal setting and the dreams you want to chase. Maybe you love a good old vision board, I would love to hear your experiences.
All that said, let's get into the episode.

HOW TO BE OPEN AND HONEST WITH YOUR LOVED ONES ABOUT HOW WE ARE FEELING.

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Hi Guys!

Welcome back to Chronic But Iconic SERIES 8. Yes baby!

This series I really want to focus on our support systems and the support they give us, but with that love, kindness and support comes guilt on our end.

Today we explore and discuss how important it is to really be really open and honest with how you are feeling to your loved ones.

We really take a deep dive today why it's so important to be open and honest and not to push through symptoms and fib about how we are feeling because if we are out with them and we become poorly they may not know how to help and react.

I would love to hear your own personal experience with communicating with loved ones and meet up's, how do you navigate them.

SUPPORT GROUPS - GOOD OR BAD?

SUPPORT GROUPS - GOOD OR BAD?

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Hi Guys!
Welcome back to Chronic But Iconic SERIES 8. Yes baby!
This series I really want to focus on our support systems and the support they give us, but with that love, kindness and support comes guilt on our end.
Today we explore and discuss how support groups can work for us and finding a balance with them.
Support groups are on the rise and it is amazing to join one and connect to like-minded guys and girls going through similar to what we are battling but finding a balance can be tough. There are so many positives of support groups but sometimes there can be negative comments, posts and judgements through around that have a negative affect on you. So it's all about finding a balance.
I would love to hear your own personal experience with support groups and if you find the helpful, or a negative place for you.

Hi Guys!

Welcome back to Chronic But Iconic SERIES 8. Yes baby!
This series I really want to focus on our support systems and the support they give us, but with that love, kindness and support comes guilt on our end.
Today we explore and discuss how we can often feel invisible.. we can feel unseen, unheard and forgotten.
Often we are such pro's at the brave face and bright smiles that our loved ones don't question if we are struggling or not. They see us doing tasks and think we are doing well, they don't see that for us it was a simple task that felt like climbing Mount Everest.
All that said, let's get into the episode.

LESSONS FROM THE LAST YEAR

LESSONS FROM THE LAST YEAR

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
I felt this was SO important to highlight the overall lessons we are taking away from all the lockdowns and the global pandemic. I know it has been the hardest few months and it may seem like a never ending nightmare.  Yet, I think we can all agree that when the world slowed down, it put a lot of things in perspective. We began to understand what truly matters in life and what we waste to much energy over.  We may not have seen it at the time but we all grew so massively in so many ways & I really wanted this episode to inspire you to take a moment to celebrate all your wins, all your steps forward, all your strength over this TOUGH, TOUGH TIME and focus on how you will use these lessons & wins going forward.  I would love to hear your stories about your own circumstances. Feel free to DM me on Insta: @sophiewardy or email me : sophward024@gmail.com . Often sharing your story can feel so incredibly hard but your bravery and your voice really does help others feel less alone & find comfort. So, you really do make an impact. Whether you moved in with your partner and it worked, or you moved in an things fell apart. Maybe you decide to stay separated through lockdown!? Tell me how you managed long distance or was the distance & time just simply too much. Let's dive in. Remember, your views, comments and input mean the WORLD to me. Reach out to me on Insta: @sophiewardy or email me: sophward024@gmail.com to tell me your thoughts and feelings. Maybe you want a topic to be discussed. Maybe you want to be a guest. HOW LOCKDOWN AFFECTED RELATIONSHIPS

HOW LOCKDOWN AFFECTED RELATIONSHIPS

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
I felt this was an important topic that affected many of us. Even those of us who don't suffer with a chronic illness. Lockdown put a strain on everyone's relationships emotionally and physically. We were tested in so many ways.  I was so lucky to have met James in lockdown one, and begun ( IN PERSON after 6 weeks of Facetiming ) dating before the second lockdown came in just after Christmas. We were placed in a stressful position of after only 5 months of knowing each other, moving in or going months not seeing one another.  On top of this stress, I had to consider my health. I had not being with anyone for so many years and especially since being incredibly poorly. I didn't want to leave my main support system ( my Mum) and move away where I couldn't have that physical support daily but then I didn't want to lose James either. He was making me happy & I hadn't felt like this in so long. I was so lucky everything worked out and James was an angel. Always loving me unconditionally and being so understanding. For many though the tests were just too much and relationships broke down, leaving many feeling hurt & heart broken.  I would love to hear your stories about your own circumstances. Feel free to DM me on Insta: @sophiewardy or email me : sophward024@gmail.com .  Often sharing your story can feel so incredibly hard but your bravery and your voice really does help others feel less alone & find comfort. UNDERSTANDING THAT MENTAL HEALTH & PHYSICAL HEALTH ARE A PACKAGE DEAL

UNDERSTANDING THAT MENTAL HEALTH & PHYSICAL HEALTH ARE A PACKAGE DEAL

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
I think many of us began to become far more aware & in tune with your mental & physical health during lockdown. We began to understand how they really are a package deal & that both require love, care, support & effort to stay in a healthy place.  Our bodies are far smarter than what we give them credit for! They offer us signs & signal through emotional symptoms & physical symptoms for us to listen to & take action on. We are all very good at ignoring & dismissing these signs. But lockdown taught us that we can very quickly fall into a danger zone if we dismiss the signs & how important it is to  REALLY listen, become self aware & learn about your body. Learn what it is trying to tell you & ask for. This taught us to be more truthful with ourselves about how we emotionally check in with ourselves & how best we can serve our bodies physically through movement & rest etc.   I want to hear your experiences about how your mindset changed & what differences you made for your physical health as well as your emotional health during the pandemic.  This series I want to focus on mental health & how Covid, the lockdown & restrictions have affected our emotional health. We all know the importance of taking care of our mental health but over the last 18 months we have been tested beyond our belief. I felt this would be a topic everyone could relate to & hopefully as the series goes on we touch on emotions that have troubled you most & how best to deal with them. Let's dive in. Remember, your views, comments and input mean the WORLD to me. Reach out to me on Insta: @sophiewardy or email me: sophward024@gmail.com to tell me your thoughts and feelings. FEELING EVEN MORE RESTRICTED BY LOCKDOWN

FEELING EVEN MORE RESTRICTED BY LOCKDOWN

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Today, I felt it was important to talk about the thoughts & feelings we all had when lockdown was first announced. We live such isolated and restricted lives as it is to have this added restriction slapped onto us, how did we physically and emotionally feel.  I know for me, I felt my anxiety go through the roof & wondered how I was going to adapt.  I want to hear your experiences and what affect this had on your mental & physical health. This series I want to focus on mental health & how Covid, the lockdown & restrictions have affected our emotional health. SEEKING TREATMENT THROUGH THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC

SEEKING TREATMENT THROUGH THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
I felt this was a VERY important topic to dive into and discuss. Mentally and physically the pandemic had a strain on us but when you had surgeries pushed back, appointments cancelled and doctor appointments were over the phone or online mentally and physically this was challenging. On top of being so overwhelmed with fear of catching Covid 19 and become even more poorly.  We were faced with many challenging and hard hitting decisions about whether to push treatments back, take appointments, accepting surgery dates moving back or being cancelled, sending pictures of our physical symptoms or video calling our doctors. It was an extremely HARD time. One none of us ever want to re-live.  I want to hear your experiences about how your health treatment changed during the pandemic and what affect this had on your mental & physical health.  This series I want to focus on mental health & how Covid, the lockdown & restrictions have affected our emotional health. We all know the importance of taking care of our mental health but over the last 18 months we have been tested beyond our belief. TOXIC POSITIVITY

TOXIC POSITIVITY

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Toxic positivity, it's an easy trap to fall into & one that often we don't even realise we are entertaining. I wanted to talk today about lockdown and toxic positivity. We all knew the importance of staying positive but the balance can easily be tipped. We were bombarded by social media content & the media, often causing us to get into unhealthy routines & habits.  Please feel free to share with me your experiences through lockdown. Did you feel like you fell into unhealthy cycles? Or were you able to keep your mind positive & know where the line was? This series I want to focus on mental health & how Covid, the lockdown & restrictions have affected our emotional health. We all know the importance of taking care of our mental health but over the last 18 months we have been tested beyond our belief. HOW LOCKDOWN'S IN DIFFERENT SEASONS AFFECT OUR MENTAL HEALTH DIFFERENTLY

HOW LOCKDOWN'S IN DIFFERENT SEASONS AFFECT OUR MENTAL HEALTH DIFFERENTLY

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Today, I felt it was important to kick off this series discussing how lockdown one felt so different to lockdown two. YES. In theory we should have been pro's after being in lockdown one for so many months but lockdown two being in winter was so much harder in a mental health perspective. The darker days. The bad weather. Meant we had less time in fresh air. We had less motivation for going on walks or being grounded by nature and the dark & short days meant we felt all we wanted to do was to sleep to escape reality.  So many of you, like myself said lockdown two felt longer, worse & more exhausting.  Our mental health took a massive beating & that is why I wanted to take this episode to talk about this angle. Let's dive in. Remember, your views, comments and input mean the WORLD to me. Reach out to me on Insta: @sophiewardy or email me: sophward024@gmail.com to tell me your thoughts and feelings. SERIES 6 - MENTAL HEALTH FOCUSED SERIES

SERIES 6 - MENTAL HEALTH FOCUSED SERIES

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Wow, series 6! Here we are. This is such craziness. I set up this podcast to help people find comfort & feel less alone whilst battling their chronic illnesses. I have been honoured to have some truly inspiring guests on the podcast sharing their personal journey's & talking about a range of important topics.  I also wanted to use the last series to focus on the small businesses and the amazing role models behind them. Who despite the pandemic had created successful businesses that had become loved by their community.  Although series 5 was less 'chronic illness' focused I wanted to share some positivity from a time that was filled with sadness, anger & negativity. I hoped that the dose of motivation & listening to these amazing individuals with their stories would help us all to believe in ourselves & our dreams. Jasmine - The Painful Truth Campaign & Arthritis

Jasmine - The Painful Truth Campaign & Arthritis

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Today, we have the lovely Jasmine joining us to share her empowering story & her journey with arthritis. We also talk about the awesome campaign Jasmine supports: 'The Painful Truth'  The Painful Truth study analysed 100 hours of footage from the UK’s most-watched TV shows and films from 2019 (from Killing Eve and Line of Duty, to Sex Education, Downton Abbey and The Avengers) and uncovered people’s experiences of chronic pain are virtually invisible.  Despite millions of people in the UK living with chronic pain, predominantly caused by arthritis, just six minutes of the most watched TV and film of 2019 were dedicated to their experiences, out of 100 hours of footage.  Chronic pain was ignored by the characters in over half (51%) of all scenes (e.g. In Netflix’s Murder Mystery Adam Sandler’s character Nick Spitz talks about his back pain, while his wife Audrey looks away without acknowledging his struggle)   Over a quarter (28%) of storylines featuring a character in chronic pain never returned to the character’s pain, it was simply brushed aside in the plot (e.g. In Phoebe Waller Bridge’s acclaimed Killing Eve, character Constantine’s chronic pain from his shoulder is referenced but never resolved or returned to in the plot)   Almost 60% 1  of the characters living in chronic pain were presented as simply having to get on with living with pain, further engraining a message for people in pain to struggle in silence (e.g. Character Frank Sheeran from Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman is forced to simply grin and bear his chronic pain). Jasmine is a very empowered & driven 17 year old, studying her A-levels around treatment & has big goals to follow her passion in physics and go on to study in university.  Please do all you can to support the campaign via the website: https://www.versusarthritis.org/campaign-with-us/the-painful-truth-a-campaign-to-get-tv-and-films-to-show-the-reality-of-chronic-pain/ Thank you for very much for listening to this episode & I hope you enjoy. Thank you Jasmine for being a delight and all the amazing work you are doing to raise awareness & educate people on chronic illness.  Don't forget to keep up with everything over on my own social media: @sophiewardy for advice, life, health & positivity.  ENJOY. Re-building Self-Esteem

Re-building Self-Esteem

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
Chronic illness batters your self-esteem. So many of us focus on the outside for answers on how to rebuild the self esteem we feel & know we have lost. When truly self esteem lies within us & that where we must begin rebuilding. We often dismiss, neglect the evidence people, the universe & we ourselves give us to prove that we are the opposite of what our inner critic likes to say we are. Through this, we stunt our growth & feed the negativity that keeps on tearing down out self esteem.  I hope to give you all food for thought with this episode. To take away some tips you can begin using at home to help begin your own healing journey & repairing that broken relationship you have with yourself. Please, remember that chronic illness doesn't make you a bad person. It doesn't make you weak & it doesn't make you any less of a person. You still bring so much to the table with your own magic. A magic that is unique to you & that can't be matched. Never forget the power you have & the impact you have on this world by being yourself. You can DM me at @sophiewardy on Instagram or email me on : sophward024@gmail.com with any questions or to talk about private, personal coaching.  Enjoy! YOU ARE A STAR!

COPY CAT COMPARISONS

COPY CAT COMPARISONS

Catch me on INSTAGRAM: @SOPHIEWARDY, I can't wait to connect with you.  I am unapologetically  myself over there & you don't want to miss that do you?
