[08] Giving Employees the Opportunity to Work and Live “Intentionally”
“While the war for talent may ebb and flow with the unemployment rate, the war for top talent is always hot. The irony is that if individuals are given the opportunity to work and live intentionally, organizations just might find they had more top talent all along—they were just tired and a little resentful before.” [Bree Groff, Senior Advisor, SYPartners]
The above quote by Bree is one of many underlying and thought-provoking themes discussed in this episode.
By way of introduction, Bree Groff is a Senior Advisor with SYPartners in New York. Her important work focuses on transformation, innovation, organizational design, and culture.

- Positive impacts of thriving hybrid cultures on employee and organizational well-being, engagement, and growth.
- Bree’s “10 Rules of Work” that can help optimize a broken system.
- Considerations and strategies for fostering JOY and FUN in the workplace.
- One practice all teams should do to create a healthier work culture.
- Opportunities for leaders to amplify employee creativity.
She is also featured in our book via the profile, “Talent Is Yours to Lose in This ‘Great Resignation,’” highlighting takeaways from our first interview, including a team-building activity she mentions in this episode.
As with all our podcast interviews, my discussion with Bree offers tactical insights and actionable strategies for cultivating employee and organizational well-being, performance, and growth.

[05] “Epidemic Leadership”: Cultivating Multiplier Effects for Cultural Transformation
How might organizations “lead infectiously in the era of Big Problems?” This was the overarching question explored (and I geek out over) in my fascinating discussion with Dr. Larry McEvoy — an emergency room physician turned CEO turned author, thought leader, and leadership expert.
Building on his profile in our book, “Cultivating Healthy & Vibrant Workplaces,” we dive deeper into opportunities for leaders to leverage the multiplier effect of PLV and other drivers of cultural transformation.
Leadership questions, fundamentals, and models discussed:
· Why should leaders think of epidemics as potentially positive?
· Characteristics of epidemics that leaders and organizations might leverage.
· Unleashing workforce potential and championing internal networks.
· Embracing the ACE model of practice (i.e., Affirmation-Appreciation, Curiosity, and Empathy).
· Advancing the multiplier effect of PLV (Performance, Learning, and Vitality) to effect cultural change.
· Fostering Change Agents to inspire grassroots movements.

[04] “PERFORMANCE COACHING” AS LEADERS: Approaches to Improve Effectiveness AND Nurture Trust and Growth
“Coaches don’t practice with the team and leave them during the game when it really counts, and neither do good empathic leaders. They are there to provide support, guidance, understanding, and motivation through every step of the way.”
The above quote by Rae Shanahan, Chief Strategy Officer for Businesssolver, perhaps best summarizes a vital takeaway from my interview with Carm Moceri, Principal, Certified Executive Coach of Healthcare Alignment Solutions, in Episode 4.
As you will discover, through his vast leadership and coaching experiences, Carm builds a compelling case for why and how leaders serving as a “Performance Coach” (versus a manager) might better support, engage, and develop their employees.
Here is a look at the critical questions and Performance Coaching approaches we explored:
1. Why Performance Coaching?: What is Performance Coaching, and what are the benefits of coaching versus managing employees?
2. Training Leaders as Coaches: Why should organizations train leaders (at all levels) in Performance Coaching?
3. Coaching vs. Mentoring vs. Advising: How are they different, and when might a leader use one vs. the other or engage an integrated approach?
4. “Coaching Up”: When might a leader engage in “Coaching Up,” and with whom?
5. Active/Appreciative Inquiry: How and when might leaders effectively use “Appreciative Inquiry” in coaching conversations with their employees?
6. Garnering Feedback in Coaching Sessions: Why is it essential to ask for feedback, and when is the best time to ask?
Whether you are a leader, employee, executive or wellness coach, this episode offers tactical insights to support your role and amplify your performance.

[03] Interview With My Husband: Our Book-Writing Journey...The Highs and The Lows
In Episode 3 of our bi-weekly podcast, Cultivating Healthy & Vibrant Workplaces, I pull the curtains back on our book-writing journey through a warm-hearted and never-dull interview with my husband, Peter Kelly, the co-author of our book, Cultivating Healthy & Vibrant Workplaces.
I asked (and he graciously answered) the following questions submitted by a few individuals profiled in our book. (To keep things extra interesting, I added a few questions and some of my perspectives on our book-writing experience.)
1) What was it like working with Lisa on the book?
2) What were some different viewpoints you brought to the book?
3) In your view, how did collaborating help enhance the book?
4) What advice might you offer someone challenged in completing their own book or struggling with Imposter Syndrome or perfectionism?
5) What advice might you give aspiring authors or those considering partnering with a spouse or someone else in co-creating a book?
6) What challenges or moments of frustration did you experience in co-authoring the book?
7) What personal outlets helped you stay grounded and inspired during your book journey?
