Fear is a natural response for survival. However, obsession and worry disempowers us. We must stay vigilant and mindful with regards to how we react to the news. Cindy shares her personal childhood stories of witnessing domestic abuse, being a survivor, and learning how to forgive while discovering more about her own ineffective codependent behaviors. Understanding these terms were always intellectualized until she realized that these codependent behaviors were the only language she knew.
She also openly shares her personal frustrations with not being able to ignore the “urge” to help others, especially those close to her. This also includes dealing with borderline personality disorder behaviors, understanding long-term effects of childhood neglect and lack of self-worth.
“My saving grace is that regardless of my life's situations, I knew that I was always loved. This was a life-long gift. However, knowing I had value and being a survivor manifested as needing to be in control, to minister, mediate and constantly compromise to keep the peace. All excellent character traits, but it hasn't paid off, and it's not where I want to be now in my life.”
Cindy provides insights and suggestions to those who are also naturally sensitive, giving and nurturing in how to begin noticing ways to love yourself, as well as lovingly detach from those who have a difficult time receiving. She tells us how to target forgiveness towards others and ourselves, and make the conscious effort to stop self-sabotaging love from others.
“Learning a new way to nurture ourselves starts with practicing self-worth, a willingness to forgive, and an invitation to connect to a Higher Power. We don't need to master it, just recognize that it's our choice.”
In this episode, Cindy talks openly and honestly about aging, menopause and her body repairs. From breast cancer and Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) to colorectal surgery, Cindy's colorful stories are graphic yet humbling. Regardless of her health challenges, she's always chosen to stay positive and optimistic. “Sometimes when life gets serious, you just have to find things to laugh about.”
Cindy reminds us to not take other people's opinions too seriously or to “buy into” being a spiritual failure because you are sick. “A positive attitude is always a choice. Never self-deprecate and always know that you are being guided regardless of your situation.” Bottom line: It's okay to be vulnerable, humble and simply human.
