From Hard Work to Heart Work with James Gardiner

From Hard Work to Heart Work with James Gardiner

I'm super excited to show off this guest for a few reasons. First of all, this person is a heart-centred personal and business development coach. This person also has a background in athletics and hospitality and resort management, is a motivational speaker and they've also hosted their own TV show, which I'm sure we'll talk about shortly. But most excitingly, this person is our very first dude on the show.
In this episode of The Recovering Perfectionist podcast, I chat with James Gardiner - the VERY FIRST dude interviewee on the show!
We talk about
James focuses his coaching on understanding personality, brand DNA, how to create a strategy and implement said strategy, and positioning. He sees over and over again that if there's a misalignment between a person's truth and how they're showing up, it will manifest itself in business guaranteed!
Some core ideas we discuss:

•The importance of having boundaries and showing up authentically and being honest about what you want and how you want to live and who you do and don't work with.
•You have to roll up your sleeves and do the deep work, right? You need to get in the trenches, and it's to get to really unpack the truth to get to your real truth. And in business or in or in life. You have to roll up your sleeves and dive in. You know. And the reward is magic. Yes, it's brilliant when you get it
•Everything is a work in progress? It's not like, 'ok we've done that work now we can move on with the rest of our life and never talk about it again".
•The middle lane analogy: And so that middle lane will always evolve as we evolve. And what we need to do is just adjust the scope of the lane as we move forward in life. And as we attract new business associates or venture out or go into relationships, you know, it ultimately has to serve us.
•Once we get crystal clear on on what it is we want the 'how' will become clear too
•Practicing failure on whatever scale you can. Learning that you can ask for something and be rejected...and no one's going to die. And it's going to be okay.
•The idea about being magnetic, which means you're also going to be repellent. And the more repellent you are to certain people, the more attractive you are, to the right people - whether it's friends, relationships, business, network, clients - but it's really scary to take that first step to be, you know, not all things to all people.
•There's a lot of males out there that are in this kind of purgatory - they want to be more emotionally accessible and they walk that fine line between the bro club and having really heartfelt discussions or being vulnerable
•Showing up as the TRUE YOU in whatever situation (whether in an interview, whether on stage, whether in a Starbucks, or at the gym, having a beer with a friend etc.)
•Being a conscious warrior - going all in with
•The difference between being a 'recovering perfectionist' and being amazing at what you do
•External validation and how to stop seeking it

James shares awesome resources, tips and videos on his Facebook page

Fear in a Fur Coat with Jenny Cole

Fear in a Fur Coat with Jenny Cole

Advice from a non-perfectionist who coaches a LOT of perfectionists! How perfectionism is fear in a fur coat and fear stops you moving forward. Jenny Cole is an Executive Coach, Consultant & Cheerleader ⁃ Jenny is a Recovering Principal who worked in education for a long time but burned out trying to do too many things at once ⁃ She coaches women who are perfectionist but has never identified herself as one ⁃ Women are often juggling so much - careers, caring for families, very busy etc ⁃ She was curious about perfectionism ⁃ Perfectionism is 'Fear in a Fur Coat' - women who are perfectionist are frightened ⁃ Imposter syndrome: we're so afraid of making a mistake and of 'being caught out' ⁃ We gloss over this fear with beauty and order and doing ⁃ Social Media perfectionism is its own issue ⁃ The concern is that some women attach self-worth to the quality of what they do - everything they do has to be 100% perfect ⁃ Anxiety, being too busy, and procrastination, lack of confidence ⁃ Turn our thoughts into action ⁃ If we think it has to be perfect, we put it off or it takes too much time, we won't take risks, we won't do something if we can't do it perfectly ⁃ All behaviour is learned - if you try and squash your perfectionism, it will show up somewhere else ⁃ Give yourself tiny little new behaviours ⁃ Catching the thoughts in your head - tell a different story ⁃ Accountability buddy ⁃ perfectionism naturally builds failure ⁃ lower the bar Join The Recovering Perfectionists About Jenny I am a busy professional woman. A mess of glorious imperfections stitched together with good intentions. I am a coach, facilitator, cheerleader and mother to Albert the spaniel. In my spare time I run a successful Education Consultancy. I am endlessly curious and draw greedily from the well of worldly wisdom and I am always keen to share what I know with the wildly wonderful women I work with. I believe that my clients are endlessly skilled and capable but sometimes they need to just get out of their own way. I also believe that the world is ready for a little more joy and we need to find ways to build that into our lives My professional qualifications are diverse - from Industrial Relations, Education (including 12 years as a school Principal) , Leadership and Positive Psychology but my greatest learning came when I was taught to SHUT UP and listen - to let go of my ego and get out of my own head. Only then I could truly be of service to my clients Check out her Website - https://www.positivelybeaming.com.au

80% of something is better than 100% of nothing with Honor Newman

80% of something is better than 100% of nothing with Honor Newman

After finishing her studies, Honor had an opportunity to work with women who had Post-Natal Depression

•Then at around the age of 30 she experienced burnout and all she was offered was medication
•She went on her own healing journey and uncovered her perfectionism and how it was manifesting
•Perfectionism comes from the way we're parented and also the way we're socialised to be the good girl, be polite, be neat etc.
•There's a lot of pressure to fit into these roles and when we step outside of these roles, we don't really know what to do with ourselves
•Mini goals - break down the big goals into tiny steps and just focus on one at a time
•80% of something is better than 100% of nothing

About Honor
Honor Newman is a psychologist who has been specialising in women with perfectionism for the past 7 years.

After experiencing depression as a teenager and especially severely in my 20s I've dedicated my life to learning how to heal in every area of life - including health, wealth, love and happiness. I've seen my life and those of clients transform as there has been shifts in limiting beliefs and traumas from of my mind and body.
I went from living in a falling down share house with no partner and no job to owning a gorgeous four bedroom home with amazing views, a great career as a psychologist and coach, great friends and 2 beautiful children. ( I have a cute lover too but-shhh!)

Habit changes are the sum of small, sustainable steps with Suzanne Culberg

Habit changes are the sum of small, sustainable steps with Suzanne Culberg

Habits - taking small sustainable action (breaking big goals down into sustainable steps

INTRO
Suzanne Culberg is a weight loss coach who doesn't do weigh-ins! She helps women press the reset button on their life, establish new habits and chunk down their goals into doable bite-sized parts so they can feel good about the progress they are making.

•Suzanne had 2 kids and a FIFO husband when she decided to enter online business in the weight release area
•She was still 150kg but really wanted to know what was actually going on, beyond the calories in and out
•We understand habits as an adult, such as brushing our teeth or having a shower
•When we go to make a change, we compare ourselves to what we want and it's too big of a jump
•If we discount the power of small steps, we set ourselves up for failure
•Choose a minimum baseline - 5 minutes, 3 days a week - it's about consistency, sustainable and habit rather than outcomes
•Celebrate what you're achieving as you're achieving it!
•Everybody is different - when we're feeling motivated to make a change, it's easier to do stuff so we pick too many
•The process is more important than the outcome
•Add things in, don't cut more out
•Don't wait for motivation... be a GPS - where do you want to go (not away from)

About Suzanne
Many of us want to make life long changes to the way we eat and move, but instead we cycle through patterns of dieting and binge eating. Having overcome this cycle herself, going from super obese at 150 kilograms Suzanne has released 78 kilograms.

Suzanne's great passion is helping people break out of this cycle by understanding that it isn't about the food, people can never get enough of what they don't truly want, and instead she helps them release the weight by uncovering what it is they are truly hungry for!

Suzanne knows that no single approach is right for every individual and so she has trained in a range of modalities including Neuro-linguistic Programming, Personal training and group fitness training (she holds a Certificate III and IV in fitness). Suzanne's educational background also includes a Bachelor of Medical Science from the University of Tasmania.

Boundaries in business - more than just your legals with Michelle Whitehead

Boundaries in business - more than just your legals with Michelle Whitehead

How brave boundaries and contracts that care can help you face the fear of getting it wrong. Sorting out limiting beliefs from real world dangers, and why taking imperfect action is better than perfect inaction. •Michelle Whitehead is an Australian lawyer and mediator to creative, intelligent entrepreneurs •She studied law after being told that she'd never make money writing books •After a few years, she qualified in mediation and realised that she had no idea how to market a business of her own •Discovered online community of women in businesses that lit them up •Thinking she'd leave law behind, she felt called to help these women to create business relationships that flourish, rather than feel like barb wire fences •Having boundaries means you can be of service without throwing yourself under the bus •Boundaries need to be1. Internally aligned - if they're not a match for you and your vision, you're never going to stick to them. Approach these from a holistic space. How do they affect you physically, financially, personally, spiritually? 2. Externally applied - no good if no one knows about it •As a procrastinator and recovering perfectionist, she knows that boundary-setting is crucial to a healthy business and mind •16 Brave Boundaries - to look into, broken into 7 parts •Future-proofing your business - who you want to be as a boss... taking ownership and responsibility •Understanding the regulatory system •Your business doesn't exist in a vacuum •Understanding what 'best practice' looks like for yourself and your business •Being open to feedback and customer complaints •Website T&Cs are a perfect way to start - investigation into boundaries. Services, disclaimer, who I can and cannot work with, IP, Refund policy, payment and cancellation policies, confidentiality •The work out where you're up to in your business - don't feel like you have to do it all Join The Recovering Perfectionists https://www.michellewhitehead.com.au/brave-boundaries/ Michelle Whitehead is an Australian lawyer and accredited mediator who provides creative entrepreneurs with the ultimate tools for business self-care. Michelle believes wholeheartedly in the need for education around legal concepts, particularly for creative entrepreneurs who - when faced with paying a lawyer to bore them to death - would rather run the risk of not knowing. She is enchanted by the fascinating challenge of reinventing traditional legal constructs for the needs of a new paradigm of business, basing them on principles of connection and caring rather than fear and avoidance. She creates contracts that care, demystifies intellectual property, advises on setting brave boundaries, handles conflict with empathy, and provides risk management with a woo woo twist. She is also an unschooler who can't resist any story that begins "once upon a time."

Overwhelm, anxiety, health and showing up authentically with Katie Godden

Overwhelm, anxiety, health and showing up authentically with Katie Godden

Katie is all about reclaiming your awesomeness - which is whatever that is for us and how we want to grow our awesomeness!
People work from an emotional level - we carry around our baggage... she helps to lighten the load and get rid of the stress.
Optimal wellness is different for everyone!
When she first started, it was all about helping people change their lives. She was baking paleo foods commercially, as well as working as a teacher and all the usual life stuff. She realised that people needed more than just the recipes and plans - that started her on her NLP and mindset training.
She wanted to teach adults how to handle anxiety!
Katie was always told to 'step out of her comfort zone'.. but it's more like 'expanding your comfort zone'... Step in until you're frightened... then step back and reflect
Breaking it down:
⁃ Support yourself with 4-5 people whose opinion you trust implicitly
⁃ Trust they will tell you their honest opinion
⁃ Have a coach who can push you - they will put it right back to you - who can hear your story or what you're creating

Observe yourself
⁃ get curious about yourself in order to be a great leader for our families or tribes, or communities
⁃ we need to be compassionate with ourselves

Katie has been a Type 1 Diabetic for 33 years - her focus is on getting to optimal health and staying there for as long as possible. She had to have the perfect timing, perfect sugar, perfect health. There was no room for error. Now she's delving into her vulnerability - this perfectionism is no longer serving her!

Join The Recovering Perfectionists

Katie's passion lies in helping ambitious but health-depleted women increase their productivity and motivation through managing their anxiety/stress, strengthening their mindset and reclaiming their vitality so that they can ENJOY life.

Katie believes you need to give yourself permission to live beyond your fears and free yourself from anxiety. She know what it is like to be BUSY, and to feel like life is spinning out of control, and more than anything, I want to help you create practical solutions to eliminate the overwhelm that has been filling up your life and getting you off track.

Katie is a wife, mum, business owner, anxiety/pts survivor, speaker, educator and the founder of Katie Godden Coaching, your calm and courage coach. In my own life, I've discovered that courage doesn't mean we're never afraid, but instead that courage is simply taking action, even in the face of fear and uncertainty. And now I'm here to not only help you unleash your dream lioness, expand your comfort zone and help you take the steps necessary to make those goals a reality. I never realised the power of taking the chaos out of life.

Intuition & finance... do they work together..? with Brooke Hunt

Intuition & finance... do they work together..? with Brooke Hunt

Brooke fell into Bookkeeping and then woke up a few years ago and realised she wasn't happy, despite looks on the outside. She was halfway through her life and didn't want to be on autopilot any more.

There's a lot of talk about being in alignment and being your authentic self. After completing training with the Institute of Intuitive Intelligence, she thought bookkeeping was behind her - but now realises that she has so much positive change to bring to this industry and the people who work with bookkeepers.

Key points from our conversation:

•Work out what you actually are (and not being what you need to be for everyone else)
•Familiarity vs courage
•Start saying 'no' and set boundaries that work for you
•Walk away from what is no longer serving you
•1. There's a ripple effect when you start living in alignment - how important your high vibe is - it streams across the whole family atmosphere
•Know that you have a choice to change your life - it's simple but not easy
•Encourage everyone to get in touch - stillness, silence, solitude... we don't give ourselves times to hear what's actually going on
•Drop down out of your head and into your heart

Nothing to prove, nothing to defend... write the book with Shilpa Agarwal

Nothing to prove, nothing to defend... write the book with Shilpa Agarwal

Shilpa Agarwal is a Book Coach... with 'Nothing to prove, nothing to defend'
⁃ Shilpa is a new Australian Citizen - she's been coaching for the last 5 years in a business with her husband's support. Now she's a book coach and works with people to write their books which helps people to understand more about their modality and craft
⁃ One beautiful autumn morning she wanted to go for a run (or do something that felt good for her heart)... but her head was saying 'what sort of serious business woman goes for a run when they should be working..?'
⁃ Believing, as many of us do, that 'THEY will know that you're not serious about your business'
⁃ She found so many excuses and never ended up going for a run
⁃ Then 24 hours later, she actually gave herself permission to go for a run... she realised that she had nothing to prove and nothing to defend to anyone
⁃ Surrender and trust that you can write your book
⁃ Surrender what is not in your control
⁃ Write down on paper - real reasons - what's in it for YOU and for your readers
⁃ Top tips
⁃ Structure before creativity (your creativity needs structure to thrive). For example... if you're looking to paint, you need some basic tools, time, and intention to get started
⁃ Chunk the process and the story down - bullet-point everything out
⁃ Why are you writing this book (intro chapter) - your intention
⁃ Elaborate on bullet points
⁃ mindset and technical / strategic things
⁃ Moderation is the key
⁃ Writing your book is a 6-month journey
⁃ You don't need to have all the answers or know exactly what it's going to look like
⁃ Purge your worries often (The worry is not important - it just wants to be seen before it goes away)

Could Solving Your Energy Problems Be As Simple As M-A-G with Kristan Kershaw

Could Solving Your Energy Problems Be As Simple As M-A-G with Kristan Kershaw

•Kristan Kershaw is a health coach with a focus on minerals - in this episode, we talk about how your behaviour is impacted by food and minerals... and what to do if you're imbalanced. Mum of twin teens and an almost-7-year-old who had a baby with big gastro issues and allergies
•She had to go on an elimination diet after being told she just had 'one of those allergic babies'
•She found that her family had a history of mineral imbalance and after lots of education and dietary changes, through these supplements, they have desensitised her allergies
•This led her to help other people and turn it into a business
•Stress (metabolically, mentally, financially) is all contributed by mineral imbalance. When we're stressed, once of the first things our bodies does is release chemicals that reduces magnesium
•Long term stress leads to more issues
•Bio-available copper in our bodies is really important so our bodies can use
•We tend to put ourselves last
•When she started looking at issues - she checked herself out at the same time as her kids...
•We can't give someone else the best care if we're not operating well
•Get familiar with what it feels like to get nourished and that it's ok to take care of ourselves
•Could be as simple as swapping a cooking oil for a certain type of butter
•A lot of us are told we're low in iron - actually a symptom of low bio-available copper
•Be an advocate for own health and do your own research
•Stress and sleep are massive
•Our grandparents and parents ate very differently than we do
•Australians and western cultures have changed the soil and therefore the food and minerals we are consuming

•addictions are tied in with our mineralsKristan Kershaw naturally has been supporting others around her to learn and find their way since a young age. She has developed that skill in connection over time and has added a lot of knowledge and experience to this via formal training. She has completed a BSc (Hons) in Animal Science, a Cert IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) as well as extensive training with Morley Robbins to be a Root Cause Protocol Consultant in the area of mineral dysfunction and metabolism in the body.
Kristan's forte is helping to simplify really complex topics, and to help clients make connections between their past and present stresses and the resulting changes to our bodies. As you connect to your mineral metabolism results and your stress, it opens the path to healing and restoration.
Kristan is passionate about transferring this knowledge to others and empowering them to not just be told (and accept) what is going on with their health, but to embrace it and understand it. The more we understand about how our bodies work, the more we can be in-tune with them, and can find our path to optimal health. Minerals run our bodies, and insufficient or imbalanced minerals in our body will lead to a range of symptoms from allergies and food intolerances, fatigue, to depression and anxiety related conditions, to concentration challenges in kids and adults alike, diabetes and other autoimmune conditions, and so much more.
Along Kristan's journey, she has been researching and learning alongside Teresa Bowley - a well respected and known face in the 'FAILSAFE' food intolerance circles, and someone with years of experience and knowled...
