Faith, Family and Finding Your Way with Tonya Guinn

Faith, Family and Finding Your Way with Tonya Guinn

We are excited to once again be joined by Tonya Guinn Executive Director of Trail Youth Coffee Home. Trail Youth was founded in 2014 on the trails in Issaquah Washington, when 3 caring moms took coffee, donuts, and soup to the at-risk teens living on the trails. They were serving more than a hot drink, they were serving kindness and compassion, they were letting the teens know that they cared, that they valued them, and they mattered.

In 2018 they were awarded a grant and makeover through Returning the Favor with Mike Rowe (Dirtiest Jobs), and he surprised these ladies with what is now the Trail Youth Coffee Home. A safe place for teens to get a free drink, hang out, and know that people really care, a place where there are no labels, just words of affirmation.

Trail Youth truly pours into the youth, from a free drink to barista training, mentoring, training programs for marketing, hosting their own podcast (Grounds of Love), AA for teens, activities such as art, poetry readings, D&D meet ups, and much much more. Check out their web site for all the details on how you can be involved, order coffee both personally or for your business, and pour into this amazing organization, www.trailyouth.com

In this episode, Tonya shares her personal story of loss and how this impacted her life driving her passion to give back, to be there for others and to provide avenues that encourage youth.  Her love of family also assisted and directed her to the work she is currently doing through the Trail Youth Coffee Home.

Sit back, pour yourself a cup of deliciousness, grab your tissue and get ready to be blessed through Tonya's vulnerability as she shares the importance of faith, family, and finding her way to live through adversity.

Mike Flood Part 2 - Community, Commitment and Kindness

Mike Flood Part 2 - Community, Commitment and Kindness

Join us as we continue the conversation with Mike Flood, on Community, Commitment and Kindness. More layers revealed, more insight given, more laughter and more doggy love for Aurelia!

Greeted with a firm handshake, Mike immediately turned his undivided attention to me. His quiet demeaner, his humility, the soft cadence of his words made me feel at home from the first time that I met him. Well, at least I think he was focused on me and not on his favorite guide dog. He waited somewhat patiently and finally asked permission to meet Aurelia. From the first time we met, I discovered so many amazing layers to this humble man.

A Seattle native, Mike attended Washington State University and later earned his Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina. He owned and operated an agricultural flying service in Fort Scott, Kan., and served as a pilot in the Coast Guard flying C130s, Dassault Falcon jets, and H60 Jayhawk helicopters. Mike also managed Search and Rescue Operations in Alaska among many other levels of leadership. Mike may have retired as a Commander in 1996 after 20 years in the service but he continues to serve and honor those who are currently serving and the veterans that gave so much to our country. He serves on the boards of the King County Municipal League, Camp Patriot, and Be Kind Snoqualmie Valley. Mike also happens to work for my favorite football team and has served as the Vice President of Outreach and External Affairs for the Seahawks since 1997.

Mike has been awarded the Outstanding Service to Veterans from the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs, Person of the Year from the United Negro College Fund, and "I Care About Kids" award from Mentoring Works Washington.

Take some time to listen and get to know the person that I consider to be a great friend, he is dog approved and one of the most compassionate people I have met.

A Colorful Life Part 1 - A Behind the Lens Look at The Life of Relationographer, Bruce Hudson

A Colorful Life Part 1 - A Behind the Lens Look at The Life of Relationographer, Bruce Hudson

Bruce Hudson is a Seattle area native who from a very early age understood the meaning of living a full life, the importance of capturing time, and framing moments into memories.  As a professional musician and educator, he had the opportunity to play with such greats as Bob Hope and Seattle’s own Kenny G! From 1978 to 1982 he was a band director at Tahoma High School in Maple Valley, WA.

Today, as a nationally recognized professional photographer, he’s had the opportunity to photograph President Bush 41, Governor Gary Locke and his family, Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson, music legend Marvin Hamlisch, nighttime radio personality Delilah and her family, Alan White (drummer for the band Yes) and recently Mikey Dolenz of The Monkeys, not to mention he photographed our wedding!

Before all of this, Bruce was a young man planning a life with his high school sweetheart Sue.  That life took twists and turns as he and Sue began their journey from high school to photographing weddings to beginning a photography studio and starting a family.

Bruce is noted as the Relationographer, he is a speaker, an author, an award-winning photographer, but more importantly Bruce is a family man. He is a great friend, a board member, a dog enthusiast, and a man who shares his life fully with others while inspiring them to capture each moment, frame by frame, creating memories that tell stories; stories that will resonate for generations to come.

Join us as Bruce shares his story and gives us focus into what living a Colorful Life really looks like up close and personal.

Sight Unseen

Sight Unseen

Living without sight means that you have to have a lot of trust, humor, and patience. Not only in others, but also in yourself.  Living with sight means that you have to have a lot of trust, humor, and patience, not only in others, but also in yourself... yes, you heard correctly - it is the same! We do not get to control what happens in our lives, and we don't always see what is coming. Those moments that are sight unseen can be some of the funniest or most important moments in our lives.  Are you being present and paying attention in the moment?  If not, it's time to trust, have some humor, sprinkle in some patience and start seeing the sights unseen.

From Grumbling to Gratitude

From Grumbling to Gratitude

Join us today as we look at challenges in life and reframe our thinking to be grateful. We have to make a choice to override any initial disappointment, we readjust our expectations, and we choose to appreciate that challenge as a gift. You take life on, you don't hold yourself back, you're not always looking around corners expecting the worst-case scenario, instead you focus on how this challenge (this gift) can be used to give your life significance and to encourage those around you. It's your choice to accept the gift and go from grumbling to gratitude.

Facing Your Mountain

Do you have moments in your life when you face obstacles, something that seemed so small that became a mountain that you had to navigate, climb, and conquer? That person that says - you are not alone in your struggles; I will climb that mountain with you, I'll even carry you if I have to!

Join Clark & Karrie as we discuss what it looks like to Face Your Mountain!

Lions, Hippos, & Gorillas... Oh My!

Lions, Hippos, & Gorillas... Oh My!

Life can feel a lot like a zoo for someone who is blind and truly sees life through the eyes of others. But when we actually go to the zoo, well now that is when it gets interesting. Embracing the moments, chasing a quick toddler, racing the sneaker waves, it's all a part of the journey.  Ask yourself this, are you stuck in the mud like a hippo, not really moving forward or are you embracing life and swinging from the trees like the monkeys? Toddlers, Leopards, Gorillas... Oh My!  Love life, live life, and truly be present in each moment!

Significant Moments

Today we get to share what it means to lean into your community, to see those around you, and to celebrate the significant moments that take place. In each of our lives we have the opportunity to encourage others to see their gifts, their talents and their abilities. We also have the opportunity to really listen as we engage with those around us and to appreciate each moment as it comes.

Gifts come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes they come tail wiggling, and tongue wagging, with floppy ears and cold noses. We hope you enjoy taking a journey with Clark and Karrie as they discuss what it was like for Clark to receive the gift of freedom and mobility through the gift of a dog and the kindness of a stranger. Welcome!

Well, we did it!  We have dropped our first episode of Coffee with Clark & Karrie. We want to thank you for joining us and hope that you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed creating this for you.  We are not perfect, we don't have all the answers, but we are real, we love to laugh, and we love life and what it has to offer.
