Done with This!: Your Practical Guide to Separation and Divorce in Canada with Daren Givoque

Done with This!: Your Practical Guide to Separation and Divorce in Canada with Daren Givoque

Our hosts are switching things up today with Tina jumping into the role of solo host and Darren as podcast guest! Darren released the book Done with This!: Your Practical Guide to Separation and Divorce in Canada in March 2022 after being inspired over the previous 3 years of cultivating relationships through CleanBreak. He found that there was a gap in the market with what resources were available to folks going through this process. After a lot of research, Darren noticed that nothing out there offered concise, digestible, and practical information on all of the aspects that are important when it comes to a separation - so Daren produced exactly that! From start to finish, Done With This! will act as your guide through it all.

About the book: If you are someone who is going through separation and divorce my hope is that you find this book to be a much-needed support and resource as you go through the process. If you don’t ‘see yourself' or your particular situation in this book, I hope that you will make at least use of the resources I have included. My goal from the beginning has always been to help make divorce just a little less difficult and hopefully this book will lay out the process in a way that is easy to digest and useful during a very stressful and emotional time.

Retirement and Finding Your Purpose with Dr. Riley Moynes

Retirement and Finding Your Purpose with Dr. Riley Moynes

Daren and Tina are behind the mic today for CleanBreak, The Podcast’s 100th episode! They are joined by Dr. Riley Moynes to chat about a life transition that happens to 10,000 people a day in North America: Retirement. Dr. Moynes moved into the world of financial services after spending over 2 decades in public education, and he has recently authored and published the book The Four Phases of Retirement. He, Daren, and Tina discuss the often overlooked psychological considerations and changes that happen during retirement, and what can be done to make this transition as smooth and comfortable as possible. Most people only think about the financial aspect of retirement, focusing on what they will do now that they have perhaps more free time and less commitments; but what if we told you that this phase only lasts on average 3 years? How do we navigate the rest of the almost ⅓ of our life, ensuring that we feel fulfilled and purposeful? Dr. Riley Moynes sheds some light on how we can make that happen.

The Four Phases of Retirement can be found on Amazon, as well as thefourphases.com

Working With A Jerk with Melissa Lafreniere

Working With A Jerk with Melissa Lafreniere

Melissa Lafreniere MA, RP, QFAS is no stranger to CleanBreak The Podcast, having been a guest on the show several times in the past. Today she joins Darren to discuss her presentation about something that many of us are familiar with: working with a jerk! Melissa takes the time to point out that there are various subjective factors that can determine how we feel after leaving an interaction with someone, such as: are they too similar to ourselves and are mirroring things that we may not particularly like about our personalities, or is their personality and the way they navigate the world completely foreign to ourselves. So while we may not collaborate well with someone, it does not always mean that there is a pathological reason for that - it could be as simple as the way that we perceive and handle situations are different. Do you tend to have the same type of conflicts with the same types of people? Does it seem like a pattern? Understanding how you manage the response that others elicit in you is important, especially so when we approach interactions through the lens that all events are neutral until we apply individual significance to them. Melissa references the DISC personality types as a great resource to deepen our understanding on where our intersections lie in regards to our own personalities, and how this will influence the perception that we will have of others depending on their intersections. Approaching communication, and potentially conflict, with differing personality types with empathy and compassion is an invaluable skill which will greatly improve every one of our working or personal relationships.

Melissa is launching her new website early March 2022 for Sandbox Family Solutions - cometothesandbox.ca . She can also be reached through LinkedIn, Facebook for AltDivorce, or truenorthmediation.ca. Real Estate and Gen Z with Curtis Murray

Real Estate and Gen Z with Curtis Murray

For our episode this week Daren is joined by Curtis Murray to talk about getting into the real estate market as part of the younger generation. Curtis became a mortgage agent after seeing the success that his mum (or co-host Tina!) had in the business and knowing that at this point in his life going to university or college wasn’t the right path. Curtis has been working alongside Tina as her assistant and is also growing his own client base as a licensed mortgage agent with Dominion Lending. It is difficult for a lot of folks, regardless of age bracket, to invest in real estate at the moment due to the increasing cost of not only purchasing a home, but interest rates as well; Curtis and Daren chat practical approaches to making home ownership more attainable including some unconventional solutions like purchasing a home with more than 2 parties involved. Investing in property isn’t something that needs to wait until you are in your 40s or 50s - there are ways in which the younger generation can break into this market too!

Aging Gracefully, Tea and Toast with Amy Friesen

Aging Gracefully, Tea and Toast with Amy Friesen

Daren sits down today to chat with Amy Friesen, CEO and founder of Tea and Toast, about the life transition that we all hope to go through - aging. Amy and her team at Tea and Toast facilitate the transition into retirement and aging gracefully by helping their clients determine their needs and wants for the future and how to ensure that those factors are met. Over the last 8 years Amy has been working to close the retirement living knowledge gap by assisting caregivers and retirees make informed and educated decisions when choosing what the next transition in their life looks like. Most people choose their retirement home based on the fact that it is in their area, or that they have seen it driving by, but what if that home does not have the level of care that may be needed in the future? Perhaps it has been advertised as an “assisted living facility”, but what does that mean for this particular establishment? The team at Tea and Toast are there to act as brokers to help navigate these questions, and any others that may come up, with a compassionate and considerate approach.

Amy Friesen is the author of Breadcrumbs, Piecing Together the Retirement Industry and the host of the podcast Artful Aging With Amy.

Pivoting or Pirouetting - Making Dance Accessible with Nancy Morgan

Nancy Morgan is a dancer, instructor, and owner of The Workshop Dance Studio in Kemptville. She joins Daren and Tina today to discuss the ways that dance can help support us through different stages in our lives as a way of keeping active and healing. Nancy has been dancing since she was only three years of age, and over the years of performing found she had a deep passion for teaching which led her to open her own adult only dance studio in March of 2015. Over the last 2 years Nancy and her studio did have to pivot the way their classes were being taught, needing to move to online streaming and pre-recorded classes as opposed to in person lessons in order to continue to provide the consistent classes that her students were counting on. Dance can be a form of therapy - not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well, and Nancy has first hand experience on how taking dance classes together help couples feel more bonded and connected to their partners.

AltDivorce - We Do Divorce Differently with Nathalie Picard and Melissa Lafreniere

Daren and Tina are joined by returning guests of the show Nathalie Picard and Melissa Lafreniere. Nathalie and Melissa are the cofounders of AltDivorce and work alongside a team of professionals to “do divorce differently”. Alternative divorce is an enhanced mediation process, the Alt Divorce way, providing clients with a different route to separation that is non-adversarial. By bringing in a team of professionals who are specialists in their respective fields, Alt Divorce is able to provide the parties with a more efficient and cost-effective separation compared to litigation and even other non-adversarial processes.

Contact Nathalie and Melissa through their website altdivorce.com or find them on www.mycleanbreak.ca
