Euro 2022 special
Janet and Clio on their absolute favourite topic, the Eurovision song contest - non-fans needn't bother, it's all about the songs and the staging and the predictions and the sillyness, with clips.
Canary Cast - ode to Tiggy, sad days indeed
Janet and Clio mourn the passing of Janet's cuddler-in-chief, the lovely feathery Tiggy. Inevitably talk turns to the current war sitaution in Ukraine - they bring their own personal overviews to the situation, also look at how it affects Ukranian and Russian residents here in Tenerife, and tourism, and talk about why 'soft' boycotts, of sporting or cultural events, matter too.
The Eurovision restaurant at the end of the universe?
In this Canary Cast Janet and Clio wander through their shared love of the writings of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams and manage to end up discussing the Spanish entry for this years Eurovision Song Contest. What has any of this to do with the Canary Islands....well you'll have to listen in to find out!
Will it be a happy new year?
In the first Canary Cast of 2022 Janet and Clio bring news of storm damage this weekend, also look at how Spain is moving to change Covid from Pandemic to Endemic - and what that really means. They also discuss the future of tourism in the year ahead - and are both just a bit hopeful that things might start to get better.
Covidmas? Let's hope not!
In the last Canary Cast of the year Clio and Janet go over current regulations for travel to Spain and the Canary Islands, also look at what being in Level 2 means for Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and how use of the covid 'passport' can change some restrictions. There is also an update on what is happening in La Palma.
Can rain put out a volcano? And there's more
Janet and Clio check on the latest volcanic and visitor activity on La Palma, discuss the ups and downs of visiting the island, and also look at what is happening to Covid restricitions here, all in today's Canary Cast.
Rants, raves and a blue tit or two
Clio and Janet bring you news on new hotels in the south west of Tenerife, Expedia's decision not to sell excursions to dolphin or whale shows, and the discovery of a blue tit or two....

Animo La Palma
There is some tongue-in-cheek banter, and a bit of a rant or two in today's Canary Cast - Janet and Clio talk volcanos, Covid, Brexit and Janet's MBE ....a selection box if you will
La Palma and holiday lets - an odd combination we know
Janet and Clio outline the latest news from the La Palma eruption, and then move back to Adeje to talk about a conference this week on defending the rights of private property owners to rent out their properties as holiday lets.
Fire and fiestas and a bit of a rant
In this week's Canary Cast Janet and Clio bring you the lastest on the La Palma volcanic eurptions, wander into a bit of a rant about the UK's current Brexit-Not Brexit dilemas and end on a more positive note with news of the Adeje fiestas this week and next.
No back burners for volcanos or covid!
Janet and Clio bring you up to date on the situation in La Palma, look ahead to tomorrow when the government will declare the island an official disaster zone, which will be able to free up direct funding to those who are most affected. Clio also looks at her Covid experiences in both Ireland and England this month - travelling and staying....it's not over by a long shot.
Natural spectacle or disaster - or both!
Clio and Janet hear from Barbara Belt, who is in La Palma, with her 'on the ground' report close to where the volcano is erupting....and discuss science, safety, and what might happen next-
Where did the summer go?
Janet and Clio pop back for a one off, bridging the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, to have a quick look at where things stand Covid-wise in the Canaries, and to congratulate Michelle Alonso for her gold in the ParaOlympics....
"Don't pee on the stick"! Canary Cast takes the test
Janet and Clio discuss the latest restrictions coming into force in Tenerife today, updates (or lack of them) on travel to the UK if you've been jabbed here, and now that you can buy an antigen test in a pharmacy here they try to explain just how to do the test at home - don't pee on the stick!
The three degrees? Vaccines, travel, tourism!
Janet and Clio are joined by Diana McGowan who has blogged recently about the difficulties in trying to travel to the UK when fully vaccinated if the vaccines were administered here, not there! The three also talk about the state of play here in the islands, the need to change the way we look at Covid stats, and much more. Have a listen
Fingers crossed for Freedom day!
Janet and Clio are back after a short break, comparing the opening up of England with new restrictions on movement here in Tenerife - and both hoping against hope that the English decision to pretty much lift all blocks on freedom of movement within the UK wont' backfire - if it works other countries will follow!
Ladies in waiting!
Today Anne Hernandez joins Janet - the two with MBE's about to be presented to them - and Clio, without a medal to her name! The chat is, not surprisingly, Brexit-related, with some asides, and a bit of background. Hope you enjoy listening.
No words - Anna and Olivia, the saddest news
Today we couldn't ignore the domestic violence case that has made international headlines - Anna (1) and Olivia (6), missing from their home in Tenerife, since their father took them and told their mother she would never see them again, on April 27th. Last last week the body of Olivia was found in a weighted bag on the sea-bed. The courts have opened the case files....and are searching for Anna, and their father Tómas.
Traditions and teens - but not in that order
Janet and Clio try to give the teens a bit of a break - and then meander into a chat about local traditional fiestas, whether there will be any this year, and how things are changing for ever, slightly or a lot, but change is a good thing, generally, right?
Tax, vax and the Vietnamindian take-away
No musical interludes today, Janet and Clio stick to chat, about tax, vaccines and travel, new varients and actually some glimmers of hope for the future
Brexit bites back...and Voila!
The serious stuff today is on emigration, vaccination, vacations and comuinidades - and of course there's a Eurovision song too. Janet and Clio need their music!
All bets are NOT off....
Janet Anscombe and Clio O'Flynn try and make sense of the rules and restricitions in place in the Canary Islands now that the state of alarm at national level has officially ended. There's a bit about travel and also an update on the search for two missing children.
Crosses and reopenings and how Cheryl did it!
Today Cheryl explains to Janet and Clio and everyone else how she managed, in just a few bureaucratic dance steps, to get herself and her husband registered as public health patients here making them now eligible for vaccination.
Boring but bloody important - vaccinations and taxation -
So, Clio and Janet with the lastest on the local vaccine rollout - and Karen Cochrane with a brilliantly concise intervention on why you need to check if you have to make a tax declaration this year even if you haven't been working but receiving the ERTE furlough payments. Boring maybe, but it's kind of really important.
By the pricking of our arm, it shall save us all from harm"...(Sorry Mr Shakespeare!)
It's all about the vaccination roll-out today. Janet and Clio talk through efforts to get privately insured patients onto a vaccination schedule here in the Canary Islands. As neither can stray too far from the Eurovision, the podcast ends with this year's entry from Iceland, Clio's Nº1 pick, " 10 Years " by Daði Freyr andGagnamagnið.
Vaccines, (Grand) national treasures, what's another year?
Janet and Clio stray into horse racing and rugby today, with (of course) the weekly Eurovision mention too, and a goodbye to Shay Healy. They also answer Julie's question about 'comunidad' meetings during the pandemic, and update information on vaccine availability and roll-out in the Canary Islands.
Easter jinks and jabs and a bit of Eurovision
Lot to unpack here - not that we're travelling - Janet and Clio look back at some Easter weekend shenanigans, try and answer jab queries, remind people that the tax return window in Spain has just opened, and at last, manage to squeeze in a Eurovision Song Contest 2021 hopeful....
Canary Cast Comings and Goings, and a bit of religion too
Janet and Clio go over the 90 day rule again as the first end date is upon us. We also outline the current travel restrictions and permissions, and have a look at what is happening locally and online to celebrate 'Semana Santa' here.
Canary Cast, levelling out?
This week, while trying not to discuss the Eurovsion Song contest, Janet and Clio try to make sense of the new tangle of restrictions, some in force since midnight, some due on Friday March 26th. So where can you go, who can you go with and from where!

Deportation, vaccination, welcome to 2021
In this week's Canary Cast the British Consul for the Canary Islands Charmaine Arbouin warns how the Spanish authorities could ultimately deport people who deliberately seek to flout the new 90/180 day rule for non-resident British visitors. We also have a word of advice for people who may be working in non-registered/private care homes.
Level 2 - can we keep this down?
Janet and Clio talk today, January 18th, about the improvement in Covid stats in Tenerife and our move to Level 2 restrictions, some update or clarification on vaccinations and what now and what next for places like Tenerife that have relied on mass tourism!
Snowplough and sandwichgate
Snow on Mount Teide and Sandwichgate at Brexit borders - Janet and Clio cast a Canary Cast eye over the week's news, also see where we are here regarding vaccines, and invite listeners to suggest non-Covid, non-Brexit topics for future podcasts.
New year solutions?
We have put this one together on the run covering the problems people are facing on returning to their homes here in Spain if they happen to be British, given the Brexit/Covid vortex we are living through. There are some technical blips and blops but we hope it's worth a listen.
