That eventually led to meeting new friends, going to the local skateparks & contests, etc. The terrain was limited, the vibes were high and skateboarding was a way of life. Becoming the first street pro for G&S Skateboards, was no small task. Yet, Mark handled it all with style & grace. One of the top selling skateboards, classic photos & magazine covers.. Throughout the years, friends come & go. Some, more memorable than others. Matt Pailes has been a friend, for close to 30years. I’d met Matt, before either of us had even migrated to California as teenagers. Not knowing what the future held, we‘d all eventually link up in SF. Skated everyday. All with the same hopes & dreams. As time went by, most of those early Northern California friendships fell wayside. Some, no longer with us. Some, became too cool. Some- remained the same. Matt Pailes, has ALWAYS been the same guy since day one: awesome person to be around, absolute charger on a skateboard & one of the funniest people I‘ve had the pleasure of calling a friend. The year was 1993. I remember it like yesterday, seeing Buk skating down 85 South in the Yall So Stupid video. Peep the video, for actual-factual evidence. My man even did a kick flip, and alladat. I wasnt the only one who saw it. It was in heavy rotation on BET, MTV, Video Music Box, etc.. Here’s my question: How can one talk skateboarding, and hip-hop? And, leave this man out of the equation? This gentleman was the first one to mash the cultures together, in a huge arena. Make no mistake about it- Uncle Buk, IS the culture. In this weeks episode, I get Buk on the line. When I’d started WCRP. One of the first gentleman that came to mind, was Alyasha Owerka-Moore. I’ve always been fascinated by dude. Quadruple-OG skateboarder, visionary, entrepreneur. So many things come to mind, when speaking on the legend.  I recently got to catch up with Aly, as he spoke candidly about his first skateboard crew growing up. Going to buy his first, new complete from Quadruple-OG, Bruno Musso. Tapping into his creative side, as a kid. Also, the social economics of skateboarding in the 80’s.  This is such a great teacher/student moment. This, is for the culture.  Thank you so much, to my man Aly for his time.
