Managing up - how to develop a productive working relationship with your boss
We all tend towards one style of working more than another due to our personal preferences, the influence of role models and prior experience. Yet one approach does not fit all scenarios. The people you manage will likely perform better if you appropriately apply various working styles. Likewise, understanding how your boss operates helps you build a productive working relationship with them. Managing upwards, if done right, is not manipulation or 'sucking up' to people in powerful positions. It is about learning techniques and strategies to help you be more effective at work and happier in your job. You can't control your boss, but you can influence your relationship with them by taking steps that build understanding and foster mutual respect. In this podcast, certified coach Beverly Landais considers the six fundamental principles of managing upward that can help you get the best out of your relationship with your boss.  For further information about bespoke coaching services, don't hesitate to contact Beverly Landais at www.beverlylandais.co.uk

Take ten steps towards a better hybrid working experience
Life has begun to unfreeze as the vaccination effort continues and we cautiously venture back into society. Many have adapted to the past 18 months of working remotely with different degrees of success. Social isolation, loneliness and feeling adrift became a shared experience.  Maintaining boundaries between career demands and personal time has proved even more challenging. Yet there are benefits to doing remote working well, such as freedom to choose how you work, wearing comfortable clothes, no commute and enjoying your home comforts.  As we emerge from the pandemic, new ways of working are required to cope with the existence of Covid in our communities. The evidence suggests that hybrid working is likely to be the choice for many, at least initially. Making the best of this situation and avoiding preventable pitfalls requires thoughtful preparation.  In this episode of Bite-sized Coaching, certified coach Beverly Landais sets out ten steps to help you create a solid personal plan and craft an equally robust strategy for managing and supporting your team. Are you holding yourself back?
Sometimes it is easy to forget our achievements, and we can fall into the trap of displaying false modesty. The bad habits that can develop include attributing our success to others or saying phrases like ‘it was nothing’ or ‘I got lucky’ when thanked for something done well. Instead, receive merited praise as if it is a gift: say thank you in return. After all, ensuring everyone on the team receives fair credit includes you. Achieving this does not mean becoming an egotistical, self-obsessed person. However, you do need to make your strengths, capabilities and achievements known to others. Hoping that hard work and sheer effort will get you noticed is rarely enough. People are sometimes too busy to see without a prompt. The only person you can rely upon to be your best advocate is you. In this episode of Bite-sized Coaching, certified coach Beverly Landais leads you through several exercises to help boost your self-esteem and prepare you to confidently communicate your achievements in a genuine manner congruent with your values.  For further information about bespoke coaching services, contact Beverly Landais at www.beverlylandais.co.uk

Learn how to tame your negativity bias and boost your mood
Human beings are wired to be alert to things that might be harmful or dangerous and take evasive action, which means that we have a natural inclination to worry about everything that concerns us, even outside our control. This phenomenon is called a negativity bias. In normal times, our negativity bias is triggered by a poorly-crafted email, delays in travel or an awkward conversation. The resulting low mood, sense of frustration and stress are bad enough, but our negativity bias goes into overload in a crisis. Then our primitive survival instinct kicks in, tipping us into behaviour patterns driven by fear and anxiety. Shifting your mindset is the key to being in a more resourceful state. So how do you do this? In this episode of Bite-sized Coaching, certified coach Beverly Landais explores how you can bolster positivity and shares tips for dealing effectively with a negativity bias.  For bespoke coaching services, contact Beverly Landais at www.beverlylandais.co.uk
