Hostile takeover of USYS? E757

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ARIZONA SOCCER ASSOCIATION JOINS UNITED STATES CONSORTIUM OF STATE ASSOCIATIONS

Phoenix, AZ (March 7, 2024) – The Arizona Soccer Association (ASA) announced today that it is joining the United States Consortium of State Associations (USCSA) as part of a seven-member expansion to the organization. With this announcement, the USCSA brings its current membership to a total of 14 state associations, representing more than 800,000 players.

“Arizona Soccer Association (ASA) is honored to be joining the Consortium of Soccer Associations,” said Jonathan Berzins, CEO of Arizona Youth Soccer. “The ability to connect and share with like-minded leaders and forward thinkers truly aligns with ASA goals and mission. ASA is excited about what this consortium can achieve for all membership in conjunction with a continued partnership with USYS.”

The USCSA believes that State Associations can provide an anchor in local soccer communities by providing exceptional service, resources and inspiration that grows soccer participation by unlocking the potential within each of those communities. Traditionally, each State Association has its own governance, policies and procedures, and resources, which limits the ability to scale and incorporate efficient solutions. The organization aims to expand its influence, reduce costs and enhance services by scaling operations together. The USCSA wants to evolve the traditional model by integrating business strategies and shared resources to increase efficiency and effectiveness of each State Association member. To maximize its success and potential, the USCSA will rely on its core values of Trust, Innovation, Compromise and Alignment.

“The USCSA is thrilled to add each of our new members, and we know their expertise will help accelerate our efforts,” said Evan Dabby, USCSA President. “Specifically, this expansion will enhance our efforts leveraging these individuals’ experience with Competitions, Finance, Grassroots Programming, Women in Soccer, Club Development and Administration.”

USCSA Membership Includes (New Members Bolded)

Arizona Youth Soccer (Jonathan Berzins, CEO)

Georgia State Soccer Association

Indiana Soccer (Dave Guthrie, Executive Director and USCSA Secretary)

Iowa Soccer (Dan Cataldi, CEO)

Kentucky Youth Soccer Association (Kris Zander, Executive Director)

Massachusetts Youth Soccer (Rob Holliday, Executive Director and USCSA Treasurer)

Michigan Youth Soccer (Thomas Faro, Executive Director)

New Mexico Youth Soccer (Gloria Faber, Executive Director)

New Jersey Youth Soccer (Evan Dabby, Executive Director and USCSA President)

South Texas Youth Soccer (Jennifer Davis, Executive Director)

Tennessee State Soccer Association (Hans Hobson, CEO)

Youth Soccer & the Fear of Failure | E735 | Freddy Haase

#STATECUP #YOUTHSOCCER #FREDDYHAASE

Over the years, youth soccer has undergone a significant shift in focus, with many players and parents placing more importance on the league or club they belong to, rather than the actual competition itself. This shift has led to a decrease in the value placed on competitions such as state cup, as clubs and leagues prioritize their own interests and reputations over the success of their players.

One of the main reasons for this shift is the increasing commercialization of youth soccer. As soccer has become more popular and lucrative, many clubs and leagues have become more focused on their own success and financial gain, rather than the development and success of their players. This has led to an emphasis on creating and promoting elite teams, rather than supporting all players and teams at all levels.

In addition, many parents and players have become more focused on the perceived prestige of certain leagues and clubs, rather than the actual competition they are participating in. This has led to a culture where players are often more concerned with the name of the club or league they belong to, rather than the skills they are developing or the competitions they are playing in.

The consequences of this shift in focus are significant. Players are often pushed to compete at levels that are beyond their abilities or developmental stages, leading to a lack of enjoyment and burnout. Additionally, the emphasis on the league or club can create a toxic environment, where players feel pressured to win at all costs, rather than focusing on their own development and teamwork.

The decrease in the value placed on competitions such as state cup is also concerning. These types of tournaments provide young players with an opportunity to compete against their peers and showcase their skills on a larger stage. However, when clubs and leagues prioritize their own interests over the success of their players, these opportunities are often lost.

To combat this trend, it is important to re-focus on the importance of competition and the development of all players, regardless of their skill level or the club or league they belong to. This means supporting players at all levels and providing opportunities for them to compete in tournaments and competitions that are appropriate for their abilities and developmental stages.

It is also important to prioritize the development of sportsmanship and teamwork, rather than the win-at-all-costs mentality that is often associated with the commercialization of youth soccer. By creating a positive and supportive environment for young players, we can help to promote a love of the sport and a focus on individual and team development, rather than a focus on the league or club.

In conclusion, the shift in focus towards the league or club, rather than the competition itself, is a concerning trend in youth soccer. By re-focusing on the importance of competition and player development, we can help to

Develops Physical Fitness: Youth soccer is a great way for kids to stay physically active and healthy. It helps them to develop endurance, strength, speed, and agility.

Cultural Diversity: Soccer is a sport that is enjoyed by people from all over the world. Youth soccer in America can expose kids to different cultures and help them to appreciate diversity.

Cons:

High Cost: Youth soccer can be expensive, with costs including registration fees, equipment, and travel expenses. This can make it difficult for some families to afford.

Time Commitment: Soccer requires a significant time commitment, with practices, games, and travel taking up a lot of time. This can make it difficult for kids to balance soccer with other activities and responsibilities.

Burnout: Some kids may become burnt out on soccer if they are pushed too hard or feel too much pressure to perform. This can lead to them losing interest in the sport altogether.

Injuries: Soccer is a physical sport, and injuries can occur. This can range from minor injuries such as sprains and bruises to more serious injuries such as concussions.

Overemphasis on Winning: Some youth soccer programs may put too much emphasis on winning at all costs, which can be detrimental to the development of young players. This can lead to a focus on individual performance rather than teamwork and can cause unnecessary stress and pressure for the players.

#soccer #coronadelsol #highschool #club

From Trainlikelegends.com
High school soccer is one of the most memorable times of an athlete’s career.  Playing alongside friends for four years on your home field is an experience unlike any other.  Bottom line, the camaraderie established in high school ball is difficult to replicate.  Depending on the size of your school, however, the competition may vary.  Prestigious private schools and large public schools often have an advantage over small public schools. Private schools will often recruit public school players, and large public schools have a prospective field of thousands to choose from.

Club Soccer is somewhat like an all-star team, and the rosters are typically composed of players from multiple high schools.  The old adage may not ring true across the board, but more often than not, the best high school players also play club soccer. Typically, club soccer is more competitive than high school.  Club teams will often play year-round, so the kids that sign up for it are typically more committed to soccer as their main sport.  This fact immediately raises the level of internal competition.

Overprotective Parents Cause & Effect | E723 | Youth Soccer

Overprotective Parents Cause & Effect | E723 | Youth Soccer

There are many reasons parents shouldn’t be overprotective. The psychological effects of overprotective parents can be significant. The most notable one is that it hurts their children’s growth and development into well-adjusted, independent adults. Here are the different ways this harm manifests.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Crystal Dunn was often the only Black girl on her youth soccer clubs, and even when she finally made it to the national team, she did her own hair and makeup for photo shoots because "there wasn't someone set up for me."

While the U.S. national team has steadily become more representative, Dunn says there's still work to be done. That starts with making sure young women of color feel included all the way down to the youth level.

"I had very supportive parents who explained to me that, 'This is OK, you are still welcome in this sport. And just because there aren't many people that look like you, this is still your game,'" Dunn said. That support was key to her success "because honestly at the end of the day, it's pretty lonely to feel like you're the only one in this space and to not feel as if you belong."

From the inquire.org :  U.S. Soccer dismisses USMNT general manager Brian McBride

McBride and sporting director Earnie Stewart received complaints from Claudio Reyna, their former U.S. teammate, over the lack of playing time for Claudio’s son Gio at the recent World Cup.

Brian McBride is out as U.S. men’s soccer team general manager, multiple outlets reported Friday night, in the wake of the World Cup and this month’s Reyna-Berhalter scandal.

McBride and sporting director Earnie Stewart received complaints from Claudio Reyna, their former U.S. teammate, over the lack of playing time for Claudio’s son, Gio, in Qatar. It’s not yet known how McBride responded to them.

Nor is it specifically clear whether Claudio sent McBride the threat to reveal manager Gregg Berhalter’s 31-year-old domestic violence incident that Claudio’s wife, Danielle Reyna, sent to Stewart. Danielle sent the threat, and later publicly admitted to doing so, without the consent of the victim, her former college roommate and Gregg’s then-girlfriend — now-wife of 25-plus years — Rosalind.

What Happens when you overprotect your children:

-Worry is a recurrent, dysfunctional and rigid form of negative thinking that is often a primary sign of generalized anxiety disorder.

-Parental overprotection can undermine a child’s development of independent coping skills.

-Overprotectiveness conveys to the child a sense that the world is dangerous. It reinforces avoidance and keeps children from engaging in social situations restricting the opportunities to build friendships and learn social skills.

-Overprotective parents go out of their way to make sure their children don’t fail. They rescue their children quickly and provide them with unnecessary assistance, often without being asked.

-Higher occurrence of anxiety and depression, overprotected children also have lower self-esteem and confidence in their ability to solve everyday problems.

-Overprotective parenting is associated with high degrees of bullying experienced by the child

How do we put JOY back into Youth Soccer

How do we put JOY back into Youth Soccer

A former Virginia Tech soccer player has reached a $100,000 settlement with the school to dismiss her lawsuit claiming she lost her starting spot on the Hokies team over her refusal to kneel with teammates in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.  Kiersten Hening, a former non-scholarship player for the Hokies, filed a federal lawsuit against Virginia Tech coach Chugger Adair in 2021, saying he targeted her because he 'dislikes Hening's political views.'

Hening has now agreed to drop that lawsuit in exchange for $100,000. However, the settlement does not require Virginia Tech to admit to any wrongdoing, her attorney, Cameron Norris, told The Roanoke Times.

Former youth soccer coach accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting child heads to trial

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI – A former youth soccer coach who coached in Adrian before moving to Texas is heading to trial on more than a dozen criminal sexual misconduct charges.

During the investigation, authorities discovered dozens of images of the naked victim, as well as other evidence that Olnhausen was having an inappropriate sexual relationship with the victim, Nessel said.

Eric Wynalda claims Gregg Berhalter had a VENDETTA against Gio Reyna for the USA's World Cup campaign as he says family feud lasted 'eight or nine months' before bombshell 'blackmail' row - after Claudio Reyna didn't keep Berhalter's son at Austin.

Arrests Made After Parents From Belgrade Attacked At Youth Soccer Tournament In Sarajevo

The organizer of the tournament for children from the ages of 7 to 14 told RFE/RL’s Balkan Service that play would continue despite the incident.

Former Japan women’s volleyball player Naomi Masuko spearheaded the first such tournament in the hope of creating a better sporting environment for youths who may otherwise have borne the brunt of abusive coaching.

Fifth division soccer team Hapoel Zafririm Holon embarrassed its opponent Maccabi Pardes Katz with a record 31-0 victory on Thursday.

Pardes Katz, based in Bnei Brak, now holds the miserable record of suffering the two worst defeats in Israeli soccer history, having lost to Hapoel Ramat Yisrael 26-0 during the 2020 season.

Danielle Reyna told U.S. Soccer about past Gregg Berhalter domestic violence incident

Danielle Reyna, wife of former United States men's national team captain Claudio and mother of current international player Gio, says she told U.S. Soccer sporting director Earnie Stewart about USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter's past domestic violence incident because she was frustrated by comments made about her son after the team's elimination from the 2022 World Cup.

"During the World Cup an individual contacted U.S. Soccer, saying that they had information about me that would 'take me down' - an apparent effort to leverage something very personal from long ago to bring about the end of my relationship with U.S. Soccer," Berhalter said.

"In the fall of 1991, I met my soulmate. I had just turned 18 and was a freshman in college when I met Rosalind," Berhalter said. "One night, while out drinking at a local bar, Rosalind and I had a heated argument that continued outside. It became physical and I kicked her in the legs."

Couple of questions we must ask?   How hard did he kick her?  Where did he kick her?  How was his technique?

If this is what it takes to get rid of Gregg Berhalter so be it.   Let’s not forget how Gregg was hired via nepotism.

Consider that Berhalter’s brother Jay is among the most powerful officials in U.S. Soccer at the time of his hiring.  The fact that Ernie Stewart said Jay Berhalter played no role in the hiring of his brother but that he did participate in the decision to hire Stewart, raises questions over a potential conflict of interest.

When a person is yelled at, the brain's stress response system is activated, releasing stress hormones such as cortisol. These stress hormones can have a variety of negative effects on the body and brain, including:  Disrupting the normal functioning of the prefrontal cortex, which is involved in decision-making and problem-solving.  Impairing memory and learning.

From FUT411.COM

Following an official complaint filed with the MLS Next league office, Texas United is forced to end its allegiance with Dallas Texans. The days of Dallas Texans Academy rosters being used to play as Texas united are ending.

On  March 4th, MLS NEXT announced on that Texas United  had joined their platform through the early admissions phase of the application process. This announcement sent shockwaves throughout the north Texas soccer landscape, as the talent-rich and uber-competitive youth soccer market is home to some of the nations most coveted youth academies. Given how competitive it is to build teams within the recruitment windows here,  new clubs often form allegiances and partnerships with existing teams and coaches to compete.

FROM THEBIGLEAD.COM- Whenever a male athlete has the misfortune to absorb a shot to the groin, announcers are right there to deliver workshopped euphemisms to explain what has happened. The player has always sustained a blow "below the belt" or "to a sensitive area" or "where you don't want to get hit." But a young visionary, on the record in believing that the time has come for us all to be adults and rely on proper anatomical terms, may have just changed everything.

A soccer match between Everton and Newcastle United was halted Thursday as a protestor stormed the pitch and zip-tied himself to one of the goalposts. This required several police officers and stewards to remove the fan using bolt cutters.

REDLANDS, Calif. (KABC) -- Redlands police arrested a local youth soccer coach, caught allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in the back of his car.

Officers discovered 40-year-old Jonathan Ledesma and the minor in the backseat of a parked car Thursday morning, according to officials.

Female Referee punched in the back of the head in Adult League

Horrifying scene at a soccer game in Argentina this weekend -- when a male player absolutely lost it and attacked a female referee after being handed a yellow card.

It all went down during a third division match between Garmense and Independencia of the Tres Arroyos Regional League ... when player Cristian Tirone unleashed on official Dalma Cortadi while her back was turned.

In video of the incident, you can see several players try to stop the attack ... but to no avail.

Ann Arbor Public Schools' Rec & Ed department has made changes to make its boys and girls youth soccer teams coed for the fall season. Some parents who pushed for the change say the leagues, which are labeled as girls coed and boys coed, still reinforce gender segregation.

ANN ARBOR, MI - Kathleen Davis was surprised and disappointed to learn Ann Arbor Public Schools Rec & Ed department segregated teams by gender for children in grades K-5 when she signed her child up to play youth soccer last fall.

Davis’ kindergartener, who identifies as non-binary, had been welcomed and supported by their teachers, but had their identity “negated” by having the youth soccer teams segregated by gender, Davis said, causing her to start a petition to make all the teams gender-inclusive. It was signed by more than 130 current and former AAPS parents.
