This week Coach Brendan Suhr is joined by Paul Mills, Head Coach of the Oral Roberts University. Mills has engineered a remarkable resurgence for the ORU program. Last season, his Golden Eagles reached the NCAA tournament for the first time under his leadership while providing a memorable run as they were the second-ever No. 15 seed to reach the NCAA Sweet 16 after taking down No. 2 seed Ohio State and No. 7 seed Florida on the national stage. In this episode, Coach Mills discusses why he felt called to coaching, the sacrifices he and his family have made that have allowed him to rise through the coaching profession, takeaways from each stop along his coaching journey, how he has built his ORU program and the reward he and his players felt with this year's success after shared experiences battling adversity in the early years, highlights from his team's NCAA tournament run, and several tips that are useful for coaches at all stages of their career. This week Coach Brendan Suhr is joined by P.J. Fleck, Head Coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team. In this episode, Coach Fleck discusses his new book Row the Boat: A Never-Give-Up Approach to Lead with Enthusiasm and Optimism and Improve Your Team and Culture. In Row the Boat, Minnesota Golden Gophers Head Coach P.J. Fleck and bestselling author Jon Gordon deliver an inspiring message about what you can achieve when you approach life with a never-give-up philosophy. The book shows you how to choose enthusiasm and optimism as your guiding lights instead of being defined by circumstances and events outside of your control. Discover how to put the three key components of row the boat into practice in your life: The Oar: The energy. Only you can dictate whether your oar is in the water or whether you take it out and decide not to use it. The Boat: The sacrifice. The more you give, serve, and make your life about helping others, the better and more fulfilled your life will be, and the bigger your boat gets. The Compass: The direction. The vision you have for your life and the people you surround yourself with help create the dream of where you want to go. Perfect for athletes, coaches, business leaders, and anyone else who hopes to squeeze a little more enjoyment and productivity out of life, Row the Boat will propel leaders, teams, and organizations to greater heights than they have ever reached before. Coach Fleck also gives tremendous insight into his approach as the head coach at Minnesota, how he developed the mantra Row the Boat, an inside look at the HYPRR Culture he has created, why he views his Golden Gopher program as a life program and not a football program, his thoughts on coaching through last season and why he viewed it as a success, and several amazing takeaways for coaches in any sport to apply to their program. In this episode Coach Brendan Suhr is joined by Jeff Pearlman as he delivers an inside look at the story of the Lakers dynasty from 1996 through 2004, when Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal combined—and collided—to help bring the Lakers three straight championships and restore the franchise as a powerhouse In the history of modern sport, there have never been two high-level teammates who loathed each other the way Shaquille O’Neal loathed Kobe Bryant, and Kobe Bryant loathed Shaquille O’Neal. From public sniping and sparring, to physical altercations and the repeated threats of trade, it was warfare. And yet, despite eight years of infighting and hostility, by turns mediated and encouraged by coach Phil Jackson, the Shaq-Kobe duo resulted in one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history. Together, the two led the Lakers to three straight championships and returned glory and excitement to Los Angeles.
