Coie's Questions
By Coie Productions
Instead of trying to look past the stereotypes, maybe some good can come from embracing them and the individual cultures each state has. After all it is a big country and so there are bound to be some differences.
So with y’alls help we want to spend this season investigating and answering one of Courtneys most in-depth questions yet…
Which state has the coolest stereotype in America?
Coie's QuestionsSep 07, 2021
New Jersey Stereotypes
This week we have Matt from The Educator Podcast on to talk all about New Jersey and the stereotypes. We talk about food and how Courtney needs to have a Fat Coie named after her, the fact that the whole state doesn't smell like butthole, what's up with all the weird NJ things, and of course RHONJ and Jersey Shore. Spoiler alert: Matt is not in the Mob. You know Courtney asked.
Washington Stereotypes
Erik from Hard Mark Podcast joins us this week to talk all about Washington (State) and it's stereotypes. Spoiler alert everyone is sick of having to specify it's a state. Imagine if people had to say they were from North Dakota state. It would get a bit annoying right. We talk about the Seattle freeze and how Courtney thinks it should be a drink, the pyrobilibly of Cheetos being sold out constantly, Ludefisk, bomb making factories hidden by Hollywood set designers, and Courtneys love for DK Metcalf.

New Mexico Stereotypes
Kevin joins us this week to talk all about New Mexico. You already know we talked all about aliens and the McDonalds in Roswell. We also talk about all the great foods New Mexico has and we asked if they knew what the "more chill Arizona" meant. Courtney tells us about how the more we talk about hippies, she thinks she may be one. We get a bit into the conspiracy side of things, and Courtney tells Jay she threw her tin foil hat away. But no one believes her.
Theres a comment made about rolling someone in a carpet and only some slight paranoia about safety since then. We also talk about atomic bomb tests and the amount of PHD holding people in New Mexico. Bomb making degrees comes up and that brings up a whole lot of other questions Courtney needs answers too.
Kevin joins team Courtney and Jay decides he needs more people on team #defendjay
We are so excited to share the first episode with our brand new editor and hope you love how much better the quality of the episodes we are producing for y'all is now.
** Marked explicit because Courtney uses a B word that isn't beautiful about her boss, One F bomb dropped **

Vermont Stereotypes
This week AJ, Chris, & Courtney from The Island Fish podcast join us to talk all about Vermont. It wouldn't be a conversation about Vermont if we didn't talk about maple syrup and plaid; and it wouldn't be an episode with Jay if he didn't somehow come up with a reason to wear a plaid bikini while chugging maple syrup. It only gets better from there.
**Marked Explicit because we always get reported when we don't and we think there may be one tiny little f bomb in there somewhere. Sorry Grandma**

Indiana Stereotypes
This week we're talking about our "home state" neither of us live there anymore but it's where we met and where we went to high school. We talk corn, basketball, and race cars twice a year. Courtney is sure to piss some people off with her comments about Bobby Knight and Peyton Manning. Jay fan boys a little over both of them. We talk about Indiana Beach, State Parks, and the Shane Company. We did our best y'all, but maybe we should have gotten a guest for this episode because Jay had a bit of an add attack the entire episode while Courtney couldn't stop laughing. Want to know the difference between a redneck, a hillbilly, and a hick? Don't worry, Jay has your answer!
**Marked explicit because sometimes we just need strong words. No F bombs dropped in this episode**

Oklahoma Stereotypes
We talk with Roni, the super awesome chick behind the Oklahoma Explorer Instagram Page this week all about Oklahoma. We take some time to talk about how Natural Falls State park started the Oklahoma Explorer project, Travel Ok, Atlas Obscura, and of course the many roadside attractions in the state. Courtney refuses to believe anything other than Will-Hay Nelson is the coolest no matter what the results of Roni's Instagram votes say. She's sure the Blue Whale of Catoosa is cool and all but Willie will always be a winner in her heart.
We talk about deep fried butter, a food Jay just can't quite get over, calf fries, festivals, and noodling. We learn about the Oklahoma way to pronounce words like Miami and Prague, and Jay learns there is more than one meaning behind the letters PBR. If you know what a sooner steak is PLEASE message us and let us know!!
** Marked Explicit because of discussions about eating animal genitalia. No F bombs were dropped in this episode**

Arizona Stereotypes
This week we talk with the hosts of Humanizing History, Nick and Cliff, all about Arizona and the stereotypes associated with the state. Jay remanences about Kilt Licker beer and Sonoran hotdogs and his time living in Arizona while Courtney decides she would be happy with a yard made of rock instead of grass. Jay talks about his experience with border patrol and Nick totally agrees with him, while Courtney and Cliff are convinced that Jay was actually pulled over in Mexico.
Marked Explicit because Jays back and we are pretty sure there are cuss words in this episode. Nothing major though.

Louisiana Stereotypes
In this weeks episode Dan and Trox the hosts of ">Cry Me A River Podcast join Courtney to talk all about Louisiana stereotypes. We talk about McDonalds snack wraps, Jay still being allowed to talk to me and a bit about what we are searching for in our quest to find the state with the coolest stereotype in America before getting into the Louisiana stereotypes. It wouldn't be an episode about Louisiana with out mentioning Mardi Gras and discussing how long it has been celebrated in the state and that it actually started in Alabama. Courtney shares her Mardi Gras story spoiler alert it's all about a black eye and we discuss how Mardi Gras and Bourbon Street is "the Wild West". About half way through the episode Dan and Trox find out Courtney is an Ole Miss girl and the LSU / Ole Miss rivalry is discussed at length. Courtney asks about the need to spell Go Geaux and we talk about drive through daiquiris. 1 point in the positive column for Louisiana. We also talk about how Louisiana is up against Kentucky first in our bracket and of course Colonel Sanders comes up and Courtney tells everyone how much they need to listen to the Humanizing History episode about him.

Idaho Stereotypes
This week join Courtney while she talks with Frank Muir President and CEO of The Idaho Potato Commission all about the number one thing that comes to peoples minds when they think of Idaho. The Potato. We talk about what exactly the Idaho Potato Commission does, how Idaho Potatoes website is the coolest food website Courtney has ever been on and how they have a quiz to find out what kind of potato you are. Courtney asks about how Kobe Bryant saved the Idaho Potato Truck and learns about The Big Idaho Potato Hotel. Spoiler alert Courtney can not wait to go stay in the potato hotel and pet Dolly. We talk about how you really can't eat a meal with out potatoes because they are the star of the show and why Frank knows Idaho should win the state with the coolest stereotype. It wouldn't be an interview if Courtney didn't ask about food so ya know we found out Franks favorite way to eat a potato and of course how he eats his Oreos. Don't blame us if you decide you need more potatoes in your life after listening to this episode!

Minnesota Stereotypes
Join Courtney this week while she talks with Brandon (aka Chops) all about Minnesota and the stereotypes of the state. We talk about Northface and of course the Vikings. Courtney admits that the closest she's ever been to being a Viking plan was when Laquon Treadwell went to play there and how disappointed she was that he never really got to play. We talk about The Shane Company, Delilah, and Bobbys World. Courtney learns all about Minnesota goodbyes and the great walleye scandal that happened a few years back. We talk about The Mall of America and Charlie Berens and catch phrases in the state. While talking about food Courtney learns about Caribou Coffee, hot dish, desert bars, and the Jucy Lucy. Massachusetts Stereotypes
This week Official Dietitian Amanda joins Courtney to talk all about Massachusetts stereotypes with guest Nick Barry. This weeks episode is marked explicit because of several mentions of the work "Masshole" and maybe a cuss word or two. Nothing crazy, we promise. We talk all about Massachusetts food and what color their clam chowder is as well as Nick's opinions of the other color clam chowders that were discussed in our Rhode Island episode. Courtney finally gets to ask someone about the need to honk the very first second the light turns green and Amanda worries for Courtney when she tells a Boston man that Dunkin Donuts doesn't even have that great of coffee. We find another type to add to our Oreo project as Nick doesn't quite fit in any of the previous categories but he does agree Jay eats Oreos like a psychopath. Listen to find out all the other cool things we talk about this week. Courtney would also like to note this episode artwork is the ONLY TIME you will see her in Patriots attire.
Iowa Stereotypes
This week Courtney talks to Heather all about Iowa stereotypes and foods. Yes, Jay is missing again this week but he is alive and well and wants to assure his loyal defenders of Jay he will be back and just as annoying as ever very soon. Courtney was surprised to learn Iowa and Indiana are "siblings" as she called them because of the similarities.
This episode is marked explicit for a couple of low level cuss words and two f bombs. And no Grandma I'm wasn't the one that said them. Seriously. We aren't talking about anything too crazy in Iowa... actually we do mention a certain google search from Iowa that might be shocking. Maybe don't listen to this episode with little kids that ask a lot of questions. If you do however then just turn the sound down for about a minute after Courtney talks about data is beautiful and thinking her friends were messing with her.
Rhode Island Stereotypes
This week we talk to Eric from Villains On Vacation all about Rhode Island Stereotypes. This may be the ultimate #letcourtneyeat episode because we get in depth with Rhode Island foods like clam chowder and it's proper color, coffee milk, pizza strips, Del's Lemonade, and lots of other funny sounding foods that made us almost mark this episode as 'explicit' because even though they are names of foods our favorite hater likes to report us for stupid things. We talk about Lizzy Borden, the conjuring, and the craigslist killer (who was actually in Boston). Courtney learns about Polo matches, bubblers, and the big blue bug. So for everyone living in the 401 have a listen and laugh at your states stereotype and for everyone else learn something about this little state. Be sure to keep your eye out for when we start voting in June when Rhode Island is up against Pennsylvania.
Hawaii Stereotypes
Season 2 starts off with one of the states with the more well known stereotypes. Join Courtney and Jay while they talk to Taryn, a life long Hawaii resident and Courtneys good friend, about Hawaii and why it should win the state with the coolest stereotype in America. Spoiler Alert * It's not because of pineapple pizza and Jay talking about wearing a coconut bra comes up more than once.
To find out more see our extended show notes at coiesquestions.com and click on Hawaii. Make sure to check out the blog on Thursday to see Amandas food recommendations for the week. Join the search for the state with the coolest stereotype in America here.

Eating Through The Holidays and Amanda Donahue
Jay wants to make sure there is a **WARNING** at the beginning of the show notes letting everyone know we are talking about food for an hour so if you are hungry you should get something to eat.
This week we bring back the official dietitian of Coie's Questions to talk all about eating healthy during the holidays and how to go about getting back on track if you don't eat quite so healthily. Any conversation about food would not be complete with out mentioning Courtneys new bff Eric and how he taught us about the Oreo Challenge. Listen to that episode here. We are still waiting on Jay to post him doing the challenge and something tells us we are going to be waiting for quite awhile. Amanda is back to talk with us all about mindful eating, holiday foods and smells, and how food is a social thing more than we realize. Don't worry y'all, she isn't going to make you give up all the good things in the name of being healthy. Amanda wants everyone to know there is always room for everyones favorite food. Spoiler Alert she is going to remind y'all to focus on those veggies, healthy carbs, lean protein, and portion sizes. Jay wants everyone to know he wants plates full of steak. What else is new?
Amanda talks again about how there isn't really "bad foods" there are energy dense foods and slowing down while eating helps a lot. Jay struggles with that concept while Courtney shares about how she doesn't like her food to touch. Yes really, and she totally would be down to use a divider plate so if you know where to get one let us know! We talk about mindful eating, how to outsmart the buffet, and a dietitians super sneaky tip for all meals. If you take one thing away from this episode Amanda wants you to know not to skip meals. That isn't going to help anything.
We have a discussion about dark chocolate and Jay says no men keep that in the house it's for girls only so if you're a man that keeps dark chocolate in the house please let us know, and if you don't want to be like jay you can get some dark chocolate here and we will be giving some away in our ultimate Christmas guest giveaway.
Jay says he feels like he is having 'food confession' and even starts it with forgive me dietitian. We talk about substituting in holiday baking and Jay points out a banana will never taste like a steak. For anyone who thought it might. Amanda tells us about a 5 ingredient banana pancake we need to try and that leads us to finding out Jay has no idea who Jack Johnson is and really needs to listen to Banana Pancakes.
Halloween and Other Scary Things
Join us this week as "Producer Jay" makes another appearance. We talk the best ways to eat candy or not... We talk Halloween safety and trunk or treats. Courtney talks candy and how she ended up in an Instagram argument. Jay struggles to produce and defends haunted houses. This episode is a wild ride you will want see through, even if it spooky.
Jordan Lloyd and Visual History
This week Jordan Lloyd joins us to tell us all about being a visual historian and what exactly that is and how he ended up in this career field. Check out our extended show notes at coiesquestions.com/history to see more of what was talked about in this episode.
Union The Book and Special Guests Jordan Blashek and Chris Hough
Join us this week while we talk to special guests Jordan Blashek and Chris Hough authors of Union: A Democrat, a Republican, and a Search for Common Ground. We talk about what made them want to write a book, what the most impactful thing they learned during this journey was, and of course Courtney asks them the burning questions from the book like if they figured out what coolant is for, if they stoped and ate at the big Texan, and of course how they eat Oreos.
Puppetry and special guest Eric Wright
This week Eric Wright, puppeteer and co-founder of The Puppet Kitchen joins Courtney and Jay to talk about all things puppetry and Meeting Monster, the coolest thing you never knew you needed for your next zoom call . We talk about what got Eric into puppetry and how the O'Neill National Puppetry Conference changed his life. Courtney shares a tidbit about the time she saw a ventriloquist on a cruise ship, and Jay nerds out talking about Dungeons and Dragons. We talk with Eric about living his dreams as a puppeteer in the cast of Little Shop of Horrors Off-Broadway and his dream as a puppet designer would be working with Disney to bring Fantasia to Broadway.
We learn all about the different kinds of puppets from finger puppets to toy theater and Courtney has a moment where she fan girls over Snuffleupagus. Yeah, we know. We talk about puppets in daily life and how they aren't just for kids. Courtney needs to know if the puppets are for adults or "for adults" and we talk about Baby Yoda and Howdy Doody. As always check out our extended show notes at coiesquestions.com/puppetry and stay tuned to our instagram for a giveaway brought to you by The Puppet Kitchen.
23 and Not Me
This week join Courtney and Jay as they discuss DNA testing and make sure you have your tin foil hat because yet again Courtney goes there. We discuss some more realistic fears with DNA sequencing companies and Jay gives a list of reasons companies like AncestryDNA and 23 & Me could be beneficial. As always check out our extended show notes at coiesquestions.com/dna
Legalizing Marijuana and why we should just do it
This week tune to listen to Courtney and Jay debate if Marijuana should be recreationally legalized. Jay starts the episode against it while Courtney thinks we should just make weed legal already. Jay uses some of his very unique terms when it comes to talking about drugs and we both discuss how as friends in the same high school we had very different experiences with weed and what we associated it with. Spoiler Alert neither of us used any kind of drug in high school. Courtney does point out however, that her group of friends were the ones to sell weed to Jays group of friends and while Jay wasn't aware of that fact he does make it known that he isn't surprised. Through out Jays rambles and Courtneys laughter at some of his wording we do eventually get to a pretty agreeable outcome. Listen to find out which one of us convinces the other to change their mind. As always read our extended show notes at coiesquestions.com/legalizeit
Aphantasia and special guest Izzy Levin
This week join us as we talk all about Aphantasia and Courtney wonders if she has this condition as well. While Izzy explains Aphantasia to Jay he starts to feel like something is wrong with his brain because he doesn't have any issues visualizing with his minds eye. He actually has a very vivid minds eye and can even smell and taste things he imagines. Courtney and Izzy bond over their love of Reddit, Jay tells his mom he has not forgotten about how much she hated it when he dug trenches in her rose bushes, and Courtney talks about her imaginary dog Purple that changed colors when wet. Courtney asks Izzy if she has ever had a paranormal experience, an invisible friend, or an ice cream headache and swears she really does have a point to these seemingly weird sounding questions. She also needs to know what y'all call it an ice cream headache or brain freeze. By the end of the episode Jay can finally pronounce Aphantasia. More information as always at our extended show notes at coiesquestions.com/aphantasia
Dark Tourism and what it's all about
This week join Courtney and Jay as they explore dark tourism. Jay struggles to understand that it isn't a "goth kid drinking apple juice out of a plastic skull" situation while Courtney explains over and over that dark tourism isn't just about going places because someone died there. It is however about visiting places associated with death and other dark events from history have unfolded.
We discuss some of the reasons people go to dark tourism sites and Jay has a hard time comprehending that many people are interested in dark tourism because they are there to learn, or to try and understand why something so awful may have happened. Some are trying to come to terms with what did happen, and others are trying to expand on history they already understand.
Jay apologizes to Norway and Montana for saying no one lives there or does anything there because it's cold, and Courtney tries not to get too annoyed at the way Jay says "tourism" and his lack of research for this episode. Learn more about Dark Tourism on our extended show notes at coiesquestions.com/darktourism
7 Aspects of Life and Courtney's advice on how to rock them all
This week on the podcast join Courtney and Jay as they talk about Courtneys birthday week and Courtney gives her advice on how to rock all seven aspects of life. Jay takes the advice personally and thinks Courtney used his life as a template for what not to do. We also talk about how Courtney is mad she can't have the one thing she wants for her birthday, a hot chicken sandwich from Tin Roof Nashville while sitting at the bar there, and Jay tells her she will survive. After talking about the wtf news of the week, both of which take place in Illinois this week, we breakdown the aspects of life and the easiest way to live your best life.
Free Britney Movement and why it needs more attention
This week join us as we talk all about #FreeBritney. Courtney brings us the wtf news of the week and tells us all about how a Dr. believes in Demon Semen and Jay just can not quit understand that concept. We talk about Britney Spears famous breakdown and go in depth about what was going on with her in 2006 - 2008. Jay just doesn't understand how her dad, Jamie Spears, was able to get away with saying Britney has Dementia or basically hijack her life. We talk about how she isn't able to get her own attorney to fight the conservatorship and has been deemed not to have the capacity to hire her own attorney for the rest of the time she is a under the conservatorship. We discuss how fans always believed something else happened in 2010 and Courtney thinks that is when she found out the conservatorship wasn't going to end after her Circus tour. Courtney gets really annoyed with Jamie Spears, who she has now dubbed Lameie, and his statement that "the world don't have a clue" she feels like if you're going to be a douche bag then you should at least use proper grammar. For more information on the Free Britney Movement visit our page here.
We will also be doing some bonus episodes digging further into the #freebritney situation so stay tuned!
That's Not Normal and why we need to stop normalizing it
Join us this week while we talk about things society is normalizing that is not ok and should not be treated as normal. Jay starts with his fact about how pedophilia is being normalized and Courtney loses her shit. Then Courtney is a little extra ranty today and defends herself for asking so many questions. Someone may or may not have hold her she asks to many questions and it's annoying right before we recorded. Courtneys wtf news talks about about a study done at Oregon State University and California gatekeeping meals. We talk all about Cancel culture, the opinion police, and how we should cancel cancel culture. We talk ghosting and how it's just not a nice thing to do to someone, not spending time with people, and being on your phone 24/7. We touch on being a workaholic and how it's ok to not be ok. Courtney asks if people are allergic to the word sorry or why it seems to be so hard for people to apologize and Jay thinks it is because people have a hard time admitting they are wrong. We talk about not allowing people to think differently and how it is hurting the world around us. Then Courtney leaves us with some fun facts this week that she remembers from school. For more information and links to do with this weeks episode click here
The Mandela Effect and what might be causing it
Make sure you have your tin foil hat this week as Jay goes in depth telling Courtney about how big brain people aka scientists have a theory where creatures can travel through dimensions. We talk about Jays inability to take a selfie, knights fighting coronavirus, and how Covid 19 is at fault for a bank robbery. Courtney tells Jay about Fionna Broome and how she coined the term the Mandela Effect and we briefly touch on markers like the colors red and blue and the letters A and E. We talk about Mandela Effect residue pertaining to Looney Tunes/Toons, The Berenstein Bears, Sex in/and the City, Febreeze, Fruit Loops and a few more. Courtney is sad that she has to use the show The Office to back her up in some of the residue but is excited to solve the mystery relating to the Monopoly Man. Jay talks about how the cornucopia was absolutely in the Fruit of the Loop logo and we talk about many of the movie lines that seem to have changed as well. Jay loves the instagram handle of our Starbucks gift card winner announced at the end of the episode, and Courtney shares some fun facts about memory.

Good Food and a dietitians point of view
This week join Courtney and Jay as they interview Dietitian Amanda Donahue MS, RD, LD. We learn the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist, Amanda teaches Courtney a new word "comorbidities". We discuss the ability of food to make you feel better both emotionally and physically and how good nutrition is all about fueling your body. Amanda talks about how she doesn't judge what other people eat but she's always there for people close to her to get nutritional advice from and how eating at her house for a cook out may look a little different than what most people expect from a cookout. Jay tells us how steak is dense in steak and tries to make beer a 'healthy' food anyway he can. Jay struggles to understand fruits and veggies for dogs, and neither of us can really grasp the ability to limit yourself to one Oreo. We talk fad diets, how there is no such thing as "good" and "bad" foods, and learn how moderation is key for all things. We both admit to having done Whole 30 and it's pretty safe to say neither of us plan on doing it again. Courtney asks Amanda about the changes to the food pyramid and we learn about 'my plate'.

Personality Types and why they aren't the best way to tell a persons character PART II
In this weeks special two part episode Courtney and Jay talk about Courtney being president #Coie2024, road trips and private traffic concerts and if you want to know how someone will handle life when things get real watch them decorate a Christmas Tree. In the second part of this episode Courtney talks about how you can tell who a person is and includes things like what people choose to see in you and how they talk about other people as good things to look for when trying to see someones true character. Jay continues to tell Courtney she makes a lot of sense up until her 5 question personality test for people when she repeatedly calls him a psychopath and he is right back to his normal antics trying to get people to #defendjay. We talk about what it really means when someone says their ex was crazy, and Courtney shares her stuck in traffic concert playlist and talks about how Bruno has a front row all access pass to her jamming out. We get a little distracted talking about Kane Brown and why he is one of Courtneys favorite singers and Jay brings up Mr. Famous Singer Man again. Jay talks about fighting fair and how he wants a psychologist or someone in that field to come as a guest and Courtney briefly explains the difference in megalomania and narcissism. We've linked the two personality tests we talk about and would love for y'all to share your results with us!
Personality Types and why they aren't the best way to tell a persons character PART I
This week Courtney and Jay have a two part episode discussing personality types and why Courtney thinks her way of telling a persons character beats defining people by zodiac signs, Myers-Briggs types, or Enneagram numbers. Jay finds out all about how Kanye is running for President and Courtney decides her new favorite hashtag is #Coie2024 because she thinks she can be president just as well as anyone else, but she's not old enough to show us that this year. Courtney still is struggling to learn Twitter and Jay enjoys listening to her rant about hashtags and how people don't use the good ones enough and she tells us what the new hashtag trend is going to be. The Wtf news of the week includes something you most likely never thought about legally betting on, sweating like a dude, and trips to nowhere. Courtney and Jay debate if it is a cart, a buggy, or a shopping carriage and Courtney explains why servers are especially grumpy on Sundays. We start talking about rainy days and lost luggage and how they fit in Courtneys personality test and then we end part one with the news of a special episode release finishing the episode on Thursday.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard and munchausen moms
This week on the podcast join Courtney and Jay while they talk about what's going on with the Mississippis state flag and why Courtney thinks Georgia should be in the spotlight for the same issues as well. This weeks wtf news includes large wooden yard sculptures and suing people over gifts they never wanted to receive on dates. Courtney talks about the case of Gypsy Rose and Jay accidentally almost outs himself as a fan of anime. Courtney thinks not enough attention is brought to the fact Nicholas Godejohn was the guy that got caught watching xxx movies at McDonald's and Jay calls him the 2020 of Schizophrenic men. Courtney thinks if Gypsy would have gone to a jury trial she wouldn't have been convicted and jay disagrees. Then compares talking yourself out of a speeding ticket to Dee Dee Blanchard manipulating Drs, Courtney thinks he is just jealous that he hasn't ever been about to talk himself out of tickets. Naturally Courtney has a ton of questions about the entire situation and Jay does his best to answer them. End the episode by learning the difference in Munchausen by Proxy and Munchausen syndrome and how hypochondria compares to them both.
