DYLANISMS
Here is a fabulous collection of  Bob Dylan songs recorded by mid 60s folk-rock and garage bands. I've called this collection "dylanisms" and as far as I know this is the first ever time something like this  has been done. In the past compilers have focused on records that sound like Dylan.

PARTHIAN SHOTS: SWIRLING SIGHT
It appears that The Turns only released one single, I'm not even sure if  they're still going. They have a rich West Coast psychedelic sound,  like Moby Grape meets The Rain Parade. I  finally got around to buying some Mystic Braves material a few weeks  ago and I've already played this 2015 album several times. It's a  psychedelic delight from start to finish, there's not one number here  that I want to skip. Most of the songs are long player material  and drift well over the desired three minutes or less timings of the 45s  I'm more used to playing. That said there are a couple of fast paced  swingers to dig, especially the fuzz and organ garage tripper "Five  Minute Dream Girl"  Pete Molinari is a modern day folk singer. P.F. Sloan style songs  with commercial appeal. Pete would have hit the big time in 1965/66.  There are seemingly dozens of psychedelic guitar groups from Los Angeles  and surrounding area and The Mad Walls are another one. Much more  obscure with a lower profile. They do have a Facebook page though.  Galileo 7 are quite  a prolific psychedelic group playing the odd gig here and there. No  doubt appearances are limited due to the amount of things young Mole is  up to 😆 Songs were recorded at Barker's Litho, January 2016.  GRAHAM DAY & the GAOLERS - THE MAN WHO CAME BACK (Disques Volfoni CED 001) 2007 CREATION FACTORY - SWIRLING SIGHT (Hypnotic Bridge HYP-004) 2019 TURNS - DOORMAN (Hypnotic Bridge HYP-002) 2017 FRANKIE & the WITCH FINGERS - MERRY GO ROUND (Hypnotic Bridge HYP-001) 2016 MYSTIC BRAVES - FIVE MINUTE DREAM GIRL (Lolipop Records LPOPCD208) 2016 MYSTIC BRAVES - TO MYSELF (Lolipop Records LPOPCD208) 2016 GALILEO 7 - CRUEL BIRD (State Records THS-024) 2016 MAD WALLS - IT TURNS (Hypnotic Bridge HYP-003) 2018 MAD WALLS - ETERNAL LIGHT (Hypnotic Bridge HYP-003) 2018 PETE MOLINARI - SWEET LOUISE (Damaged Goods DAMGOOD 298) 2008

PARTHIAN SHOTS: MANTRA
Collecting sunflowers on this transparent day with The Creation Factory,  Liquorice Experiment, Frankie & the Witch Fingers, Balduin, The  Dawnbreakers, The Higher State, The Quarter After, Us And Them and The  Turns.**** picture is Alice talking to the blue caterpillar,  illustration by Gwynedd M. Hudson in 1922 **** The Turns are / were a  psychedelic group from Los Angeles. I'm not sure if they're still going,  no updates on their Facebook page for almost two years. Perhaps their last release was the excellent single I have on Hypnotic  Bridge which came out in 2017. The new Creation Factory  single has just been released earlier this month. Both sides are swathed  in hallucinogenic sounds and distorted vocals and are about as tripped  out as they have ever been. Highly recommended, My advice buy while  copies are available. This single by Frankie & the Witch Fingers  is fantastic, lots of psychedelic noise and weirdness. I hope I have  more of these kind of sounds to discover from them circa 2016 when this  45 was released. I've checked out some things more recent and they're  heading off in another direction, not really my bag though. What a triumph this 2011 disc is, recorded during their folk psych period. "Transparent Day" is superb, full of beautiful jangle and soaring harmonies. A definite high point and perhaps thee zenith of The Higher State.    INTRO  CREATION FACTORY - SUNFLOWER (Hypnotic Bridge HYP-004) 2019 LIQUORICE EXPERIMENT - LAST TRIP (Gizzard Records) 2019 FRANKIE & the WITCH FINGERS - MANTRA (Hypnotic Bridge HYP-001) 2016 BALDUIN - JABBERWOCK (Sunstone Records SSES 1002) 2014 DAWNBREAKERS - SEA IN A SHELL (Blink 2001) 1999 HIGHER STATE - TRANSPARENT DAY (Get Hip GH-252) 2011 QUARTER AFTER - SHE REVOLVES (The Committee To Keep Music Evil EVILCD 00512) 2008 US AND THEM - CORN RIGS (Fruits der Mer Records 20) 2011 TURNS - JUST LIKE YOU (Hypnotic Bridge HYP-002) 2017

PARTHIAN SHOTS: WORLD'S END
The Jack Cades is a superb 45, top side "Run Paulie Run"  is especially strong with a riff Ray Davies would have been proud of.  Back in 1964/65 this would have been a hit but times have changed and  it's now up to the devoted sleuths to get thee message out. Hastings  based garage band The Dirty Contacts released this single late last  year on the ever popular State Records label. Both numbers were recorded  live to 8-track at North Down Sound.  It's a noisy affair with fuzz, not a disc to play when your Grandma pops over for a cup of tea and a slice of Battenberg. New disc out now by Thee Girl Fridays on SpinOut Nuggets. Limited to 300  copies. They follow in a long tradition of garage beat groups from  Edinburgh and checking out the back cover credits reveals that Thanes  man Angus McPake produced all three numbers. They have an interesting mid sixties beat going on which I'm sure they can evolve with future releases. The prolific Graham Day & the Forefathers released this single last  year, back sleeve credits indicate that both numbers were recorded on  the 4th March, 2018. Both "Emmaretta" and "Love Help Me" were  released by Deep Purple in 1968. The front sleeve is a pastiche of an  early Deep Purple publicity shot. The dog played organ. 🧐  The Razerbills wear eye masks and appear to point and hang out in  graveyards. That's cool by me. Their music can probably be described as  surf garage and I dig it a lot. Hope more recordings emerge in the  future.  As for this four track EP? Only 300 copies were created  so grab it while you can. All the numbers are originals apart from a  version of "Sakkara" by The Pharaohs.  INTRO  JACK CADES - Run Paulie Run (Dangerhouse Skylab DSL 028) 2018 GRAHAM DAY & the FOREFATHERS - Emmaretta (Damaged Goods 506) 2018 RAZERBILLS - La Tombe (Next Phase Normal NPN4) 2018 GIRL FRIDAY'S - Shake-Shake! PARTHIAN SHOTS: TIME WILL TELL
Both sides of this 45 were written by Mike Warren, who was a Higher  State member for a couple of years. I assumed the numbers were written  by Marty Ratcliffe!!! I've used the psychedelic "Trip On High" on mix #23 but check out the promo video of "Automatic Motion" cos it's way-out. Plenty to dig on this record. Released 2008. Graham Day & the Forefathers update The Prisoners number "Love Me Lies" released on State Records back in 2014. "Once Over Twice" is on Mix #23 and what a 'heavy' song. This one  sounds like the angst ridden garage punkers they used to do in thee  early days when they 'owned' The Broken Doll in Newcastle with their  high tempo way-out gigs in the late 80s into the 90s.  Recorded at the Purple Pit Studio in Doncaster, Summer 2009. Almost ten  years ago. Contact on the back of the cover is a "myspace" address. BUT,  unlike the now ignored MySpace, The Mourning After are still together  doin' their own thang. What we don’t have enough of on the garage scene today is all girl rock  n’ roll groups. Here’s Thee Girl Fridays from Edinburgh. This three song single was recorded in early 2018 and had taken almost a  year to get to it’s release. Produced by Angus McPake of The Thanes  💥💥💥 All three cuts will be featured here soon but in the meantime look out  for it’s release online and buy a copy. Your support will be  appreciated. Thanks to Ms Boom for sending me pre-release MP3s and press  release. Only 300 copies pressed. Don’t miss out on their garage Beat  sounds.   INTRO GIRL FRIDAYS - Too Much Of A Good Thing (Spinout Nuggets SN004) 2019 SOLARFLARES - You Want Blood (Big Beat NS 137) 2002 DELTONICS - The Hurt And The Pain (Trident Recording TR-666) 2002 GRAHAM DAY & the FOREFATHERS - Love Me Lies (State Records THS-014) 2014 HIGHER STATE - Trip On High (13 O'Clock Records 13OC-002) 2008 HOODWINKS - Got Love (Flycatcher Records FLYCA004) 1999 MOURNING AFTER - Once Over Twice (Tryptic Records TR05) 2009 PAUL MESSIS - Time Will Tell (State Records THS-005) 2010 VICARS - You Lie (Dirty Water Records DWC1030) 2009

PARTHIAN SHOTS: FOOL FOR TEMPTATION
In years to come this fabulous album by The Higher State may  receive some plaudits as being ahead of it's tyme in a weird kind of  way. The early line-up, may have even been the original line-up.  Recorded between June 2007 and January 2008. Beautiful sounds and the  thick card sleeve and heavy vinyl had not been seen since the late  sixties. 12 string guitars, harmonies and excellent drumming throughout.  Keen purist production too nailing the sound. It may have been darker by the day but it's as intoxicating as a  Summer's night in my mind. Take a bow Higher State.    INTRO SATAN'S PILGRIMS - Boneshaker (Jackpot Records JPR047) 1998 BOBKAT '65 - Fool For Temptation (Get Hip Recordings GH-1965) 2017 VIBRASONIC - Aquabeat (Yep! PARTHIAN SHOTS: BROKEN MOONS
Broken Moons and kaleidoscopic paths featuring: Asteroid No.4, Balduin,  The Fuzztones, Marty Ratcliffe, The Social End Products, Cavemen V, The  Omens and The Youth.  Asteroid No.4 are on a trip to another part of the galaxy with this  single from 2017. "Broken Moon" is a dreamy lament, similar to The Rain  Parade material from the mid eighties. The top side "Ticking Time Bomb"  is a little more heavier with treated vocals, sound FX and added  dreaminess. Marty Ratcliffe went solo with this single from 2010 on Get  Hip Records. It was still a State Production though. A Bert Jansch  number "Fresh As A Sweet Sunday Morning" and (I presume) an original  song "Or Forever (Live Without)" are sparse loner folk. I can imagine  Marty's guitar dripping with tears at the recording session.    INTRO  ASTEROID NO.4 - Broken Moon (13 O'Clock Records 13OC-025) 2017 ASTEROID NO.4 - Ticking Time Bomb (13 O'Clock Records 13OC-025) 2017 BALDUIN - Waves, Stars And Moon (Sunstone SSES1002) 2014 FUZZTONES - Group Grope (Sin Record Company SIN 001) 2003 MARTY RATCLIFFE - Fresh As A Sweet Sunday Morning (Get Hip Recordings GH-247) 2010 MARTY RATCLIFFE - Or Forever (Live Without) (Get Hip Recordings GH-247) 2010 SOCIAL END PRODUCTS - Kaleidoscopic Path (Radar Eye Records RER 1) 2011 CAVEMEN V - Be My Cavegirl (Soundflat Records SFR-CD-022) 2012 OMENS - Falling Down (Soundflat Records SFR-CD-022) 2012 YOUTH - Your Life (Wilde Beat Records WBR-003) 2013

PARTHIAN SHOTS: LONG BLACK ROAD
I've used two numbers from The Cavemanish Boys album. They were a short-lived combo with Gerry Mohr, a former member of The Miracle Workers. “Come On Baby” is a cover version of Al’s Untouchables 1966 legendary garage single. The Frantic V  are another Greek garage band following in the footsteps of The Sound  Explosion with a sound based on fuzz and farfisa. Two numbers from this  2004 LP made it onto Mix #17. Check out opener “Room 409” As far as I know this was the debut single by The Flight Reaction. "Flying Colors" is a psychedelic rocker with sound FX, the other side "A Broken Heart" is an introspective acid ballad. Songs recorded at Dustward, Stockholm in January 2010. Your modern day garage rock collection will most definitely require a copy of "Fiddle While Rome Burned!" EP by Michigan's Fortune & Maltese and the Phabulous Pallbearers. Check out "I'm Crying" singer Freddy Fortune sounds like an  injured caveman as he howls and hollers throughout this frantic Animals  cover version. Classy group. From 2000. 2015 release from The Loons on Dirty Water Records. Check out their  rave-up version of "Alexander" originally recorded by The Electric  Banana a.k.a. PARTHIAN SHOTS: MOURNING LIGHT
And thee nightmare continues with Episode #15. Most garage groups on  this wailing half an hour hail from Spain! In order of appearance: The  Embrooks, Els Trons, The Phantom Four, The Flight Reaction, Os Haxixins,  The Ratkellers, Bobkat '65, BJ's New Breed and The Giljoteens.   Opening number on my latest "Parthian Shots" mix is "Nightmare" by The  Embrooks, released 2016. Recorded in mono and mixed at State Studios  during May 2016. They make a right old racket for a three piece. Here's a  four song EP by Spanish group Els Trons. All numbers are cover  versions, virtually impossible to surpass the originals or at least the  most well known versions, but they sure do a good job with "Res A Fer" "Res A Fer" is indeed "Outside Chance". Els Trons go for a jangle  folk-rock take and it works! This Flight Reaction single dates from 2012 has turned out to be their  last. An album titled "Flight Reaction" was released in 2014 but no  singles. I'm not even sure if they're still going? I've tagged Mans in  this for any updates etc. "Mourning Light" and "Citadel" are fine  examples of contemporary psychedelia and are evidence that this  complicated genre of music can be done with taste in thee modern age.  "Citadel" is their version of The Rolling Stones classic. Both sides  featured on #15    INTRO EMBROOKS - Nightmare (State Records THS-026) 2016 ELS TRONS - Res A Fer (Butterfly Records BUT44) 2011 PHANTOM FOUR - Speed Blender (Misty Lane Records CD outtake) 2005 FLIGHT REACTION - Mourning Light (13 O'Clock Records 13OC-012) 2012 FLIGHT REACTION - Citadel (13 O'Clock Records 13OC-012) 2012 OS HAXIXINS - Espelho Invisivel (Groovie Records GROOCS 0101) 2008 RATKELLERS - Tight Trousers (Marlowe Records MR001EP) 2014 BOBKAT '65 - This Lonely Road (Get Hip Recordings GH-1965) 2017 BJ'S NEW BREED - I'm Sorry (Time For Action Records TFA 33) 2014 GILJOTEENS - Away From Me (Screaming Apple SCAP 066) 2001

PARTHIAN SHOTS: STROKE OF MIDNIGHT
Two numbers from The Voo-Dooms album "Destination Doomsville" can be  heard on the latest 'Parthian Shots' mix #14. This new group of crypt  kickers are seasoned ghouls on the UK rhythm & beat scene and have  an early 60s vibration going on here. I can't recommend this LP enough.  Recorded in demonic MO-FI, music for executions and other sordid  entertainment. Perfect soundtrack for your Helloween Monster Mash  shindigs. Les Grys-Grys publicity sheet for their first single "Hot  Gully Wind" / "Neighbour, Neighbour" released 2014. Both sides are  savage rhythm and beat and featured on #14. WHY have I only recently  found out about Lulufin the Woo Hoo? Man, I need to look around on  Bandcamp more often. Both of their new recordings are purist surf beat  and sound top shelf. PARTHIAN SHOTS: THE WORLD IS SQUARE
The Baron Four publicity sheet reads twangin' guitars, throbbing bass,  pounding drums and frenetic vocals combine to produce the most exciting  sound you'll hear this year! released: April 2013. Debut single by Paul  Messis from 2009 at a time when he was exploring angst ridden teen punk  garage. A "State" production so no doubt Marty and Mole played on this  too....sleeve put through my 'dragan effect script.'   Here's a 2017 single release from The Mourning After. Classy modern  garage punk with that pulsating guitar riff. Back in thee late 80s I  hung out with Chris B and a few of us ended up at his gaff in Sheffield  for a few cans of lager and to talk some shit (as you did). I've never  seen so many Kinks posters on a bedroom wall. That's where he gets his  inspiration from ⭐ early period Kinks. Don't think I've heard Lenny's  vocal take as gruff and nasty as this before. "Dishin' The Dirt" is full  of menace. Perfect garage beat rocker from 2013. This single came in a  wraparound thick cover so I've scanned it all.   "I Found You Out" by The Beginner's Mynd is awash with 12 string jangle,  has a steady backbeat, swirling organ and an overall dream like  quality. I reckon this disc was inspired more by early Rain Parade than  anything from the 60s. Look around on the net, I'm sure it will still be  available somewhere. 2015 release. Wild Evel & the Trashbones look  like they'd cause havoc wherever they played 🤣🤣 They give you early  rock and roll inspired by Screaming Lord Sutch but with added fuzz.    INTRO  BARON FOUR - Girl (State Records THS-009) 2013 FOGBOUND - Come And See (Sunny Day Records SUN019) 2014 HIGHER STATE - Song Of The Autumn (13 0'Clock Records 13OC-005) 2010 PAUL MESSIS - The World Is Square (State Records THS-002) 2009 MOURNING AFTER - Get Wrong Off Me (Heavy Soul Records ROR083) 2017 THANES - Dishin' The Dirt (Dirty Water Records DWC1068) 2013 BEGINNER'S MYND - I Found You Out (13 0'Clock Records 13OC-021) 2015 YOUNG SINCLAIRS - Problems (Market Square Records MSR-02) 2013 WILD EVEL & the TRASHBONES - Hot Rod Zombie (Soundflat Records SFR-039) 2011 SOLARFLARES - Captain Blue (Big Beat Records NS 137) 2002

PARTHIAN SHOTS: LONELINESS IS MINE
My next "Parthian Shots" mix is gonna be an all female affair including two numbers from the Bobkat '65 album on Get Hip....their totally wired covers of Missing Lynx "To Be Like You" and Esquires teen punk weeper "Loneliness Is Mine." Check out "Destroy That Boy" by thee primitive space-age go-go girls The Rosalyns  on my latest mix. The number is from their four song EP on Ugly Things  Records released 2014. More recordings in thee pipeline from The  Rosalyns expected. The Jackets from Bern, Switzerland play  fuzztoned garage punk, they're a three piece and make a lot of noise.  Front woman and guitarist looks as wild as they sound which to my ears  comes across like The Rezillos meets The Monks. Check out their promo  video of "Wasting My Time" it's a hoot and shows that they don't take themselves too seriously. Now then, he's a fabulous garage punk album by The Neumans from a couple  of years ago. Everything about it is KILLER! but it would become their  last release before breaking up. Drummer Billy T. is still active with  another group called The Telephone Lovers. Check out the moody classic "Dark Are The Shadows" with  lead vocals by girl organist Gravel. It's on my latest mix of femme  delights. What a beautiful record I have here. This four song EP was  released back in June and is a collaboration between respected musician Dario Persi from Italy and 60s songbird Lia Pamina  from Spain. The whole package is sumptuous, not just the music but the  thick and glossy card cover and graphics. Everything is top drawer and  classy. "So Far Tonight" is the most commercial record I've ever  used in my mixes, it's so good, catchy and memorable it may have even  been a hit record in the mid 60s, but this is now and only 500 copies  have been pressed. Check out the official promo video.  My favourite 45  release of 2018. Respect is due. Get you copy while you can here:  https://elefantrecords.bandcamp.com/album/so-far-tonight   Miri May is a young girl from the mystic Spanish land of Galicia  and this 45 has been her only release to date on Saturno Records. Both  sides were available for download in 2012 and a vinyl record came out  the following year in small quantity. She found inspiration from the  1967 album "En Vivo En El Politécnico" by Los Monjes, a 60s Mexican garage band to make this cover of their song "Tú Eeres Mi Angel" produced by Jacco Gardner. The other side is a competent version of "Five O'Clock World" originally recorded by The Vogues in 1965. Paul Messis and Jessica Winter  join forces and deliver a modern day psychedelic number which sounds  both dreamlike and ethereal. Shame that Paul didn't explore this kind of  bag again. "Look Back And Laugh" is the debut 45 by Cardiff based Suzi Chunk.  Groovy Uncle are her backing band on both sides and all are seasoned  musicians on the scene. They add that driving beat and are perfect for  Suzi's soulful vocal style. Finally, it's the outstanding Us & Them with their fabulous version of "Fire Leap" from "The Wicker Man" soundtrack. Stunning performance.  INTRO  BOBKAT'65 - Loneliness Is Mine (Get Hip Recordings GH-1965) 2017 ROSALYNS - Destroy That Boy (Ugly Things Records UT-S75) 2014 JACKETS - Wasting My Time (Soundflat Records SFR-040) 2012

PARTHIAN SHOTS: SOFTEST
The Quarter After are a recent discovery for me although their album "Changes Near"  was released on CD back in 2007. Their Facebook page has had no  activity since 2015 so I'm assuming that they are no more. Recommended  sounds for anyone with a love of The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and Gene  Clark's solo material. Also hints of modern day janglers like Teenage  Fanclub. Why did I take so long to discover The Quarter After? OK, it's  time to brag about my white label test pressing that Paul from The Belltowers sent me back in 2014. Yes, I am thee #1 fan and will take any opportunity to promote this fabulous group. "No Matter"  is on Mix 10. Totally great uptempo jangler. All members operating as  one and thee results are outstanding. More Belltowers "Parthian Shots"  to come in the future, maybe even a Belltowers Special which will  obviously be way-out.   Another Thanes number in the mix, this time the Lenny Helsing uptempo swinger "Sun Didn't Come Out Today" released in 2000 on Sundazed Records. Another crude Ar-Kaics garage number has made it onto a mix. "Slave To Her Lies" is the flip of "Why Should I?" on Windian. Recorded in mono and released in tiny quantity in 2014. An excellent four track EP by The Giljoteens was released back in 2002  on the Screaming Apple label. Plenty more to come from The Giljoteens  who played a style of garage beat recurrent nowadays but back then it  was a rarity. An Indikation 'Special' mix is available on "Parthian Shots" Episode 8. Check it out cos it's a trip.   Following the demise of The Others Massimo del Pozzo formed a new group called The Tyme Society  who also played a brand of '66 folk garage, so in all honesty they  sounded just like The Others, especially as both outfits had Massimo's  distinctive vocals and utilized jangle. This was The Tyme Society's  first release on the small indie label Psych-Out Records. It was pressed  in a quantity of 500. Both sides are del Pozzo originals and were  recorded at Delta Studio in Rome during February 2000. I need more Worthless  music in my life. Their 45 on Market Square Records was limited to 300  copies and came in a colour sleeve with a postcard insert. Their way-out  noise is a combination of underground mind trips and basement reverie.  Brooklyn based combo, released 2015 and sold out. Now to play a number  from the Wicked Whispers rare 10" EP from 2011. Try finding a copy! Only 300 pressed. Anyway, what a cool neo psychedelic outing.     INTRO QUARTER AFTER - She Revolves (The Committee To Keep Music Evil EVILCD 00512) 2008 BELLTOWERS - No Matter (Hidden Volume HV-004) 2014 THANES - The Sun Didn't Come Out Today (Sundazed S-156) 2000 AR-KAICS - Slave To Her Lies (Windian WIN-20043) 2014 GILJOTEENS - Time To Go (Screaming Apple SCAP-066) 2002 INDIKATION - Jaqueline (Larsen Recordz LZ 067) 2002 TYME SOCIETY - Leaves Are Turnin' Brown (Psych-Out Records PO-45007) 2002 WORTHLESS - Softest (Market Square Records MSR-09) 2015 WICKED WHISPERS - House Of Peppermint (Electone ELEC 001) 2011 QUARTER AFTER - Changes Near (The Committee To Keep Music Evil EVILCD 00512) 2008

PARTHIAN SHOTS: CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE
Episode 9 takes on a much more psychedelic trip than previous "Parthian  Shots" which were loud, brash and a mix of modern day garage punk and  outsider folk rock. So, take a drink of your magic potion, climb aboard  thee mystery train into a realm of colours and whispering corridors. Each number used in my mix will be inspected thoroughly in order to  determine their nature or condition. The picture I've used is a scan  from a fashion article inside Petticoat magazine published 8th October,  1966.  The debut Fogbound single dates from 2014 and is already a sought  after disc. Copies sold out within weeks, perhaps only 500 were ever  pressed. Both sides are modern day psychedelic classics, recorded at  Circo Perrotti after winning The Battle of the Bands at Euro Ye-Yé mod  & '60s weekend in 2013.  In my mind I picture Balduin as some kind of intense and suitably  mad gnome type creature living in a hut on top of a Swiss mountain.  He's like a one man band playing every instrument on this now rare EP on  Sunstone Records. Released in early 2014 and sold out within a blink of  an eye. For the record Balduin plays electric and acoustic guitars,  mellotron, bass, acoustic harpsichord, piano, organ, vibraphone,  celesta, lyre, sitar, harmonium, drums & percussion. He only  ventured out of his mystical hut on top of a mountain in the Swiss Alps  to seek premastering aid at Whitewood Studios.  Now to play a number from the Wicked Whispers rare 10" EP from  2011. Try finding a copy! Only 300 pressed. Anyway, what a cool neo  psychedelic outing. "Amanda Lavender" is quite special. Dig thee Doors  style organ sound especially. Us & Them really deliver the goods with this stupendous four song EP of Paul Giovanni covers taken from the soundtrack of an early 70s cult movie from Britain called 'The Wicker Man'....Quite simply, along with Kes, one of the best films ever made and easily THEE best soundtrack.  It must have been an impossible task to reproduce the brilliance of  Giovanni's original acid-folk songs but Us & Them really capture the  macabre sounds and eerie mood of them all. The perfect musicianship and  the addition of mellotron and dulcimer into the mix create brilliant  new interpretations of 'Corn Rigs', 'Gently Johnny', 'Fire Leap' and 'Willow's Song'.   'Sea In A Shell' is just how I dig my neo psych. There is  constant 12 string and fuzz action throughout. On top of this heady brew  is lilting and echoey female vocals. You could easily mistake The Dawnbreakers 45 as a  long lost 1967 gem. It has a very authentic sound. There is a killer 12  string raga break just like those McGuinn interludes from the Younger  Than Yesterday sessions. 'Remember' is similar in style but not as cool as the top side.  It's still impressive though and a worthy B-side. Both songs were  written by Chris Maes.  I Fenomeni hail from Genova, Italy and have released a few records that have since come under my radar. Their mod-pop Who drenched number "Bruciamo"  is in this mix, remastered from a yellow flexi-disc. The latter was  released in 2015, not sure of the number of copies but it can't have  been that many. The Higher State were firing on all psychedelic cylinders when they recorded a fine rendition of "Transparent Day" which I'm struggling to believe how perfect their performance is. Beautiful record and one to add to your collection.

PARTHIAN SHOTS: THE INDIKATION SCENE
This time 'round I present thee World with a Parthian Shots Special Edition with thee ultra cool Beat combo The Indikation  who hailed from Norway. They were a short-lived outfit but left garage  beat freaks a handful of singles and an impressive album to recollect  and enjoy for many years to come. The cuts I present here are all from  their much in demand singles. Crank up the volume and light up your mind  with their way-out and immaculate Norwegian beat music.   Two sides of coolness, this was The Indikation's first single. Released  2002 and now highly sought after, not many copies for sale floating  around the internet. Recorded at Toe Rag Studios in London on vintage  60s equipment and it sounds like it. Highly recommended 45. Three track single on the collectable Larsen label dates from 2002.  "Jaqueline" is a huge favourite, think of The Zombies here during their  early Beat phase. Also included is a way-out organ dominated  instrumental titled "Indikation Ye Ye". I've had a look around various online sources and no copies are for sale, probably only 500 pressed. The  Indikation!!! surely one of the best revival groups since the turn of  the new Millennium. All of their releases are recommended, the early  singles are becoming rare and sought after. This four track EP was  released on Larsen Recordz back in 2003. The number I chose from this EP  for my mix "Swedish Girl" is an absolute gem of a beat song. It's like  we have a reincarnation of The Mascots circa 1965/66.   Numbers in order of appearance: Don't Send Me No Flowers Fashion Conscious Indikation Ye Ye Jaqueline Swedish Girl Three Little Words Tu Manipule Ma Tete Yes I Do

PARTHIAN SHOTS: FUZZ FILLED DREAMS
I'm sorting out the 45s I'm gonna use for my next episode of "Parthian Shots" and The Neumans are in. "Fuzz Filled Dreams"  is a fuzz ravin' teen punk blast of Godliness and is already one of my  all time fave rave turntable spins. If someone ever decides to compile a  "Back From The Grave" type set with contributions from post 1966 groups  I'd be severely disappointed if this hot mind cruncher isn't the lead  off track on Side One. Garage punk group Los Peyotes from Buenos  Aires sound and look a bit on thee wyld side 🐾🐾 They absolutely  positively make a noise that will scare away the creeps hanging around  graveyards at night. Garage Psych group Os Haxixins hail from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Both sides are fine and purist examples of 1967 Los Angeles groove.  These guys have got The Doors & Iron Butterfly heavy psych sound  down on vinyl perfectly. Other groups have tried this combination in the  past but NONE have come close to matching Os Haxixins. They even add  some wild fuzz guitar in the mix for good measure. Loud and pulsating  rhythm & punk by a three piece called The Branded. This 45  dates from 2009 and was recorded at Turbofon Studios in Sweden. The back  of the cover says "Play Loud" so do as they say, get yourself in a  frenzy then go outside and break some skulls.  This 45 is a big favourite of mine. Great song. 'Stand Up' is an obscure Del Shannon number that wasn't released in his lifetime and here Michigan based Freddy Fortune  and his band deliver the goods with respect. It also features Max  Crook, Del Shannon's original keyboard player providing a solo on his  custom built Musitron keyboard. (Released 2002). The Rosalyns EP "Hide and Seek" is enjoying turntable attention especially the number "Der Hund Von Baskerville" . This was Cindy & Bert's remake of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid"  - love the general uproar, clattering drums and of course the fact that  it's sung in German. Classy Rosalyn's in their way-out vintage-style  go-go gear and kitten heels.   I need to obtain more records by The Youth if this debut single  is anything to go by. I don't recall that much ravin' Beat au go-go  comin' out of Denmark but when David Peter Jorgensen is involved it's  gonna be shit hot gear. This is a heavy vinyl disc in a thick card  sleeve. Loads of coolsville information on the back. Recorded and  produced in Malmo. Diggin' "Fancy You". This EP by Jens Lindberg and the Strollers  just scrapes into my mixes. Technically it's before the start of the  Millennium, recorded and mixed in 1998 but not released until 2000 after  some mastering at Delta Studio in Rome. The Strollers were a great garage punk outfit from Sweden, they had the  crazy long hair and attitude. Sounded like a runaway train on record  too. Jens Lindberg has been in numerous groups and is the weirdo with  the pencil mustache holding a skull he found in a local graveyard. "Anything Right" is a moody garage beat number.   From Spain and released in 2007 comes this great single by The Phantom Keys. Top side "In The Summertime" (Mix 4) is a garage R&B raver with harmonica, turn it over for a cover of "Velvet Illusions" by The Velvet Illusions. Insane 45 by The Creation Factory.  Both sides intense garage psychedelia. Only 300 copies made last year  and it's already long gone. Check out thee official video for "You Got  It".

PARTHIAN SHOTS: THE MAN WHO CAME BACK
Archaeological sonic digs uncovering tomorrow's nuggets today. Hear  garage punk, beat, fuzz mayhem and psychedelic sounds from the turn of  the new Millennium by new, vital and way-out combos. Selections culled  from 45s released on independent record labels. Introducing in order of appearance: The Thanes, BJ's New Breed, The  Embrooks, Graham Day & the Gaolers, The Indikation, Suzi Chunk, The  Noble Krell, The Tyme Society, The Young Sinclairs and The Saffron Sect.    Kicking off Episode 5 (after the "Vendetta" Theme tune) is the respected and long time going Thanes. "What You Can't Mend" is an Angus McPake original. BJ's New Breed get a solid mod beat going with "Baby's Gone For Good"  on their single released 2014. Nuggets are out there if you know where  to look.  The group evolved out of the ashes of Vienna combo The  Jaybirds. So pleased that they are making records. Limited to 500 copies and on the heaviest vinyl I've got for a 45. Circle Records released this Embrooks single in 2002. "Dawn Breaks Through" is a cover of The Barrier freakbeat tune  and it's a loud noise and with-it. Authentic in every way and skillfully produced by Liam Watson at the  famous Toe-Rag Studio in London. Pounding single from 2007. Three piece  but they make a full and loud noise. Both sides have been used in my  mixes and I'm sure they will turn up again. Seek it out and buy a copy. An alternative cover for Suzi Chunk's promo CD release before the vinyl copies were circulated from April 2012. "Tripwire" is on this mix, quite the mid 60s swinger too. The Noble Krell use  Vox and Rickenbacker equipment. They are produced by Dr. Morbius,  engineered by Robby the Robot and recorded at The Krell Laboratory. You  have been forewarned. Outstanding single by Rome group The Tyme Society who evolved out of The Others. "I Gotta Know" is a perfect jangle folk-rocker New England '66 style. Recorded December 2000 and released the following year. 500 copies made available. "Engineer Man" by The Young Sinclairs  appears to have been a one man enterprise, namely Samuel J Lunsford who  played all instruments and added vocals. This number reminds me a  little of The Who during their mod pop phase. Only 300 copies pressed on Market Square Records in 2013. Rounding off my mix is the other side of The Saffron Sect's single from 2014. "All Lead Back To You" featured on Parthian Shots #1, here's their way-out psychedelic number "A Pinch Of Chalk." What does it all mean?     INTRO:  THANES - What You Can't Mend (Hidden Volume HV0043) 2017 BJ's NEW BREED - Baby's Gone For Good (Time For Action Records TFA32) 2014 EMBROOKS - Dawn Breaks Through (Circle Records CPW S102) 2002 GRAHAM DAY & the GAOLERS - The Man Who Came Back (Disques Volfoni CED 001) 2007 INDIKATION - Swedish Girl (Larsen Recordz LZ 076) 2003  SUZI CHUNK - Tripwire (State Records THS008) 2012 NOBLE KRELL - The Velvet You (13 O'Clock Records 13OC-002) 2015

JOHN WALKER – PHILIPS SINGLES 1966-69
John Walker’s solo career can be best described as unsuccessful  considering that The Walker Brothers enjoyed such acclaim in Britain  during the mid 60s. His records have various styles from orchestrated  pop ballads, country and even a hint of the Carribean on his final disc  in 1969. He recorded songs by Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan and Graham Nash  who co-wrote “Annabella” his only hit, reaching #24 in 1967. “Sunny” / “Come Rain Or Come Shine” (Philips BE 125970) 1966 “Annabella” / “You Don’t Understand Me” (Philips BF 1593) 1967 “If I Promise” / “I See Love In You” (Philips BF 1612) 1967 “Kentucky Woman” / “I Cried All The Way Home” (Philips BF 1676) 1968 “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” / “Open The Door Homer” (Philips BF 1655) 1968 “Woman” / “A Dream” (Philips BF 1724) 1968 “Yesterday’s Sunshine” / “Little One” (Philips BF 1758) 1969

THE TROGGS – PAGE ONE SINGLES 1967
The Troggs released four singles in 1967, excluding “My Lady” (Page  One POF 022) which was hastily withdrawn. Some copies reached the market  but I don’t have one. They rounded off the year with a top five hit,  hidden on the B-Side of this romantic love ballad is a mind-bending  psychedelic nugget written by Ronnie Bond. Indeed, when will the rain  come. “Give It To Me” / “You’re Lying” (Page One POF 015) 1967 “Night Of The Long Grass” / “Girl In Black” (Page One POF 022) 1967 “Hi Hi Hazel” / “As I Ride By” (Page One POF 030) 1967 “Love Is All Around” / “When Will The Rain Come” (Page One POF 040) 1967

BOBBY DARIN – ATLANTIC SINGLES 1966-67
Bobby Darin’s singles during 1966-67 period were of a very high  standard and his choice of material may surprise many listeners more  used to his earlier recordings. He laid down numbers by Tim Hardin, John  Sebastian and Gordon/Bonner. His own songs “I Am” and “Amy” hidden away  on B-sides are worthy too. “If I Were A Carpenter” / “Rainin'” (Atlantic 584051) 1966 “Reason To Believe” / “The Girl That Stood Beside Me” (Atlantic 584063) 1966 “Lovin’ You” / “Amy” (Atlantic 584079) 1967 “The Lady Came From Baltimore” / “I Am” (Atlantic A2395) 1967 “At The Crossroads” / “She Knows” (Atlantic 584147) 1967

THE FORTUNES – UNITED ARTISTS SINGLES 1967-69
During the late sixties The Fortunes released several singles looking  for that elusive hit record. Their music was very much in keeping with  the times although instead of experimenting with psychedelia they went  in search for the perfect pop 45 with commercial appeal and their  trademark vocal harmonies. “The Idol” / “His Smile Was A Lie” (United Artists UP 1188) 1967 “Fire Brigade” / “Painting A Shadow” (United Artists UA 50280) 1968 USA “Loving Cup” / “An Hour At The Movies” (United Artists UP 2218) 1968 “Seasons In The Sun” / “Louise” (United Artists UA 25 885) 1968 “Ballad Of The Alamo” / “Save A Little Dream” (United Artists UP 35027) 1969 “Books And Films” / “Sad, Sad, Sad” (United Artists 35 054) 1969
