Art in the Library: Rock Rainbow

Art in the Library: Rock Rainbow

The art inspiration for this episode is Crocodile Rock by Laura Stisser. This abstract acrylic-on-canvas work contains mysterious, indistinct, crocodillian figures flowing through the piece. Erin took inspiration from the work to  go on a treasure hunt for precious rocks and minerals that were used to create some of the first long-lasting blue and green pigments.  Take a trip from France, to Australia, to the Sinai Peninsula in search of information about rock-based pigments. The Hubble Space Telescope has taken breathtaking images of distant regions of space for much of the 30 years it has been in operation. The art inspiration for this episode is Heron Drinking at Sunset by Herm Card. This photo-graphic features the silhouette of a heron against a fiery sky reflected on the water.
