What are your work values? (why they matter + how to identify them)

I have to be honest here. I didn’t know that businesses had values until I sat down to write my first business plan. Prior to starting Color Resale I thought values were personal. Even when I read more about workplace values I still thought it was silly to implement when my business was just me (+ Eena, of course).

So why do business values matter (even for ‘soloprenuers’)? What do they practically do?

Business values -

• Determine what’s important
• Guide our actions & decision making process
• Clearly convey your company identity to customers
• Transform your work into a purpose driven business
• Add authenticity
• Give branding, marketing, and customer service a cohesive and heartfelt core.
• Are what propels every action, step and possibility
• Help with work relationships. Ex: postal workers, peers on IG, bank tellers, who ever else you interact with.

What a wild month it’s been , filled with so much uncertainty, information and emotion. I thought this would be the perfect time to get back to basics and focus on the one thing we have control over - ourselves - with a little two week Work Life Balance Challenge.

No matter what you do for business or where you are at with self care, this challenge is for you! It’s customizable, easy and will yield amazing results.

Challenge Breakdown

Start by choosing a work task and a life task. Make sure both tasks are important and manageable at the same time. If its not important to you, you won’t do it & it it’s too big, say a 5 hour task, you won’t be able to do it every day for 2 weeks.

What happens when you lose motivation to work when you work for yourself? (So many tips & ideas below)

One of the first pieces to go when I transitioned from teaching to reselling was  the accountability of my co-workers, students, admin and bosses. The honeymoon period of being my own boss was long, the excitement motivated me to work.

But as we all know work is just like any other thing in life, has peaks and valleys. The list I am about to share is what I turn to when I don’t want to work. I have it on my bulletin board as a reminder that there are ways to get motivated to work again!

A good plan is essential for any big goal after all, a goal without a plan is just a wish. For me a plan starts with a thoughtful weekly schedule.

A schedule that is balanced, productive, inspiring and challenging - in the best way possible.

As a self proclaimed ‘yes woman’ It’s taken me a while to figure out how to build a schedule that isn’t completely filled to the brim, and unrealistic.
