Time to break everything!

Craft Beer Conference 2019

This episode is a recording of a talk I gave at the Canadian Craft Beer Conference in Niagara Falls in 2019. I discussed all parts of the customer journey when buying beer online.  Most important to note is that consumer buying habits, particularly when it comes to beer have changed dramatically in the past 5 to 10 years. There are far too many breweries struggling! I would like to help shed some light on why.

Today we talked about the New England Patriots as an example for creating a system that creates success regardless of the pieces. Companies that have been around for greater than 50 years survive only by having super star sales people. These people don't exist at scale anymore which is why these companies are in trouble.

Near Misses
Looking back in our career we discussed missed opportunities. These were mostly due to massive gaps in the customer journey as a result of having no real connection between marketing and sales in our companies. These two departments should be consolidated into one. No question!

Look for opportunities
I would ask everyone that listens to this to take a half day, note pad or white board and map out the gaps in the customer journey. Your clients want a better experience from your brand. Even better, if they aren't asking for it, this is the best time to over deliver.

The real issue is that at the start of each year many think they will work more than ever. This creates a list containing more goals than we will actually have time for. Episode 1 - The Thesis
My experience shows that small business owners work incredibly hard to establish the Comfortably Profitable State or CPS. They hustle like their life depends on it to create enough revenue in their business to pay all their expenses, hire necessary employees, and maybe buy a couple of nice items to pad their false security or celebrate their recent hard work. And that's what CPS is: a false sense of security.
