Hello everyone! We are back with our news ep for April. Yes it's belated and we apologize for the delay but hope you enjoy it nonetheless. In this episode we talk about some conservation news, zoo news, and of course beluga news!

This week we've got another episode of the newses! Beluga news, zoo news, policy & conservation news its all here this week as we settle into this new schedule!

This week CQ Emily requested that we all try to come up with animals she has never heard of and present them. Learning about animals is one of our favorite pastimes so we all happily obliged. Come on a journey with us as we learn about a new bug, bird, small mammal & primate!

Ever watch that one Spongebob episode and wonder what actually is hibernation? Were you told as a child that hibernation is just when animals go to sleep for the entire winter? Well don't worry the Conservation Queens are here to clear up what exactly hibernation and torpor are! Join us as we discuss different animals who experience these scientific phenomena and what exactly happens during the process.  

This week we take a look at "monogamy" in the animal kingdom, including some examples of true monogamy, and some ~squishier~ examples. Don't miss CQ Emily's rant about puffins, penguins and seahorses too!

The Conservation Queens are back after a 6 month hiatus with some current events! We are so happy to be back making some episodes for you all, let us know what you want to hear next!

Thanks to a listener's awesome suggestion we will be discussing the broad topic of ecotourism, what it means, what to look out for, and all the pros and cons that go with it!

This week we dive into the five zones of the ocean. Inspired by everyone's favorite marine biology professor, Mr. Ray, the queens take a look at what makes each zone unique. Climb aboard, knowledge explorers!

In this episode the queens discuss ways to create spaces for wildlife right outside your own home. With spring coming up there's no better time to start planting some flowers, creating toad abodes, or looking for other ways to provide safe spaces for creatures of all shapes and sizes no matter where you live.

This week we take a break from the biome series to bring you a long-awaited deep dive into ecology and evolutionary biology in the hotspots of it all, Islands! We discuss some fun evolution, as well as some notable island chains and research topics.

It's time for another biome, and this time its getting grassy! We take a look at some of the most iconic biomes that contain everyone's favorite savannah and prairie animals. Come along with us as we dive into the world of Grasslands!

On this week's episode we're celebrating Conservation Queen Catie's belated birthday and talking about an issue that hits close to home for many of her favorite animals. We are talking about palm oil and the complicated circumstances surrounding the sustainability of this product and its impact on the environment. 

You asked and you shall receive. When we started this podcast Tiger King was definitely on everyone's minds as we were stuck inside watching a lot of Netflix, but now with Carol Baskin receiving more spotlight for being on Dancing with the Stars we thought it was time we discussed it. We talked a lot about how zoos came to be, their purpose, the difference between good zoos and bad zoos, and different kinds of accreditation on our previous episodes Let's Talk About Zoos Part 1 and 2. If you haven't listened to those episodes we highly recommend it before listening to this one. Specifically, on this episode, we talk more about the concerning things you see in the series itself and the issues surrounding it. Listen up all you cool cats and kittens because the only cool cats and kittens involved in that show are the actual tigers themselves.

This week we decided to go back in time and discuss some of our favorite animals that have gone extinct. We each choose an animal that we would save from extinction if we could. We also spend some time discussing the Holocene extinction, which is ongoing thanks to human activity, and how our little everyday actions can make a big difference for critically endangered animals!
