How Have You Not SeenMay 02, 2024
The Muppet Movie (1979)
This week we’re shifting gears DRASTICALLY and talking the 1979 classic, The Muppet Movie. Kermit is maybe one of our best living actors. What exactly is Gonzo? Who is your favorite Muppet? This episode is the DEFINITION of a REAL GOOD TIME!

Prisoners (2013)
Perhaps the most criminal result of the delay of DUNE: Part 2 was the delay of our episode covering Denis Villeneuve’s 2013 film, Prisoners. Starring a veritable who’s who of some of our biggest movie stars; we lament over what could have been for Jackman’s song and dance career, debate how many superheroes and polka dots David Dastmalchian has played, and drool over just how STUPID hot Jake Gyllenhaal is. TLDR- We do everything we can to still make it a real good time.
A HUGE thank you to Kalie McAlexander for our social media. Solaris (2002)
This week, JJ Bersch from Blank Check with Griffin & David, returns to top his own record and deliver our longest episode ever. For the first time ever, a guest brings a movie Caroline & Carson haven’t seen. We discussed Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Solaris.’ Clooney is charming as ever, Viola Davis turns in an outstanding early career performance, and this episode is a real good time!
A HUGE thank you to Kalie McAlexander for our social media. Lost In Translation (2003)
This week, we are covering Sofia Coppola’s sophomore feature starring Bill Murray & Scarlett Johansson, 2003’s Lost In Translation. This film follows Johansson & Murray as they meet while following their individual journeys that have led them to Tokyo. Through Coppola’s signature style, the two form a bond that is as unlikely as it is meaningful.

Hard Candy (2006)
St. Patricks’ month comes to MAYBE the most upsetting possible conclusion; This week we are discussing David Slade’s 2006 film ‘Hard Candy’. Starring Patrick Wilson, Elliot Page, and Sandra Oh, this film draws a wildly striking resemblance to Emerald Fennel’s ‘Promising Young Woman’. Good, bad, and ugly, this film makes for some excellent conversation.

The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
St. Patricks’ month continues this week with Joel Schumacher’s 2004 musical movie ‘The Phantom of the Opera.’ There are SO many CHOICES made in this movie, good, bad, or indifferent. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote a WEIRDLY auto-biographical musical, and then turned it into a weirdly auto-biographical movie. Patrick Wilson is our shining light and always will be. The theatre kids are out in full force this week, but we promise it’s a REAL good time!

Tick, Tick... Boom! (2021)
IT’S THE CAROLINE THOMPSON 30TH BIRTHDAY SPECTACULAR SPECIAL! This week, we’re covering Lin-Manuel Miranda’s 2021 film Tick, Tick… Boom! Andrew Garfield plays Jonathan Larson in the semi auto-bigoraphical film based on his unfinished stage work. We found a bit and COMMITTED. We recorded this episode around Caroline’s 30th birthday. Turns out, turning 30 ain’t that bad! We have a very nuanced discussion around this film, musical movies, Larson’s work, and how it fits into history.
A HUGE thank you to Kalie McAlexander for our social media. Make sure to Follow us on FB, Twitter, Instagram, & Tiktok- hhynspod And, be sure to check out Kalie’s podcast, The Liberty Hall Video podcast, where her and Jon discuss whatever they happen to pull off the shelves of the last video store on Earth!

Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
It might be love month still, but this week Caroline is bringing 1967’s Warren Beatty & Fay Dunaway picture Bonnie & Clyde. Has anyone ever looked hotter on film than Warren Beatty? What review in Untitled Letterboxd Game ends “Fortnite Battle Royale!”? Oh, and Gene Wilder is here too? This episode is classic HHYNS and a REAL good time!
A HUGE thank you to Kalie McAlexander for our social media. Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)
This week we are discussing 2011’s Crazy, Stupid, Love. This movie is one of the most chaotic things to ever exist, with a STUPID stacked cast- Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, and Marisa Tomei to name a few. This film swings from charming/fun to disgusting/illegal and settles somewhere FIRMLY in the middle. We play a truly excellent game of Recast It this week and get into a firm debate. Is Steve Carell hot in this movie?? This episode is a REAL good time!
A HUGE thank you to Kalie McAlexander for our social media. What If (2013)
This week, we are discussing the Daniel Radcliffe & Zoe Kazan romantic comedy, What If. (Also known as The F Word) This film is maybe the most aggressively 2013 thing ever made. But, it’s still a lot of fun despite this! It’s got Adam Driver, fresh off of girls, re-treads some themes from When Harry Met Sally, and makes our entire show feel ANCIENT. It’s only been 11 years, but the costumes in this thing have aged like sour milk. Regardless, this episode and conversation is a REAL good time!

Sense and Sensibility (1995)
HAPPY LOVE MONTH! We’re kicking off the Valentine’s season by discussing Ang Lee’s 1995 Jane Austen adaptation ‘Sense and Sensibility’. Emma Thompson’s adaptation is our newest entry into the comfort film pantheon. Between Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Imelda Staunton, and Alan Rickman (I’m positive someone is left off this list), this film is truly a study in all great British actors.

In all seriousness, she provides some incredible behind the scenes facts. (This thing was filmed in an ABANDONED NUCLEAR REACTOR??) We play an always excellent game of Recast It, share our Cameron rankings, and as always have a REAL GOOD TIME.

It's A Wonderful Life (1946)
This week, we’re covering one of the biggest blind spots on our show EVER. Caroline hadn’t seen Frank Capra’s 1946 classic, It’s A Wonderful Life. Is this a Christmas movie? Does James Stewart’s performance in this automatically win him a Seenie? Is Zuzu an absurd name for a child? We cover all of this and more! It’s a REAL. GOOD. TIME.

BARBENHEIMER (2023)
We didn't think it'd be relevant a month later, BUT WHAT DO WE KNOW?? This week, Caroline, Carson, & Corey break down Greta Gerwig's Barbie & Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer. As you can only imagine, we discuss how these fit into each director's respective filmographies, debate early Oscar buzz, and have a REAL GOOD TIME!
Clueless (1995)
This week, Caroline & Carson cover Amy Heckerling’s 1995 classic Clueless, starring Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Donald Faison, and Brittany Murphy. Eighth Grade (2018)
This week, Caroline and Carson are traveling back to Middle School as they discuss Bo Burnham’s 2018 ‘Eighth Grade.’ We cover Elsie Fisher’s phenomenal performance, swoon over Josh Hamilton, and lament the universally AWFUL experience that is middle school. It’s a real good time!

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)
This week, Caroline & Carson are covering John Cameron Mitchell’s 2001 cult classic, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Carson continues his history of not knowing musicals are movies and he has to guess who wasn’t in the 2014 Broadway production- Aaron Taylor Johnson, Taye Diggs, or Michael C. Hall. We have a nuanced conversation on gender, sexuality, and how Hedwig simply is, Hedwig. It’s a REAL GOOD TIME!

Doctor Zhivago (1965) w/ Emily St. James
This week we are joined by a bucket list guest, Emily St. James! She had miraculously never seen David Lean’s 1965 epic “Doctor Zhivago.” We chat about the incredibly charming Omar Sharif & Julie Christie, obsess over the snow, and discuss some of the eerily prevalent parallels between this film and the world today.
Emily’s work can be found on vox.com where she is a senior correspondent, you can subscribe to her newsletter at emilyvdw.letterdrop.com, listen to her podcast Arden wherever you stream your podcasts, and follow her on Twitter at twitter.com/emilyvdw.

NOW IN 4K 3D
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This week, we are joined by a very special guest, YouTuber Nicole Fegan, who had never seen Titanic?! This episode has it all, swooning over Leonardo DiCaprio & Kate Winslet, hating Billy Zane in all the right ways, analyzing James Cameron's fascination with water, and a deep dive into big boat art. It's a real good time.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016)
This week, Producer Corey takes the reigns, and the HHYNS crew covers the 2016 Lonely Island mockumentary, ‘Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.’ It’s another big week for the lamenting of the studio comedy. Were ‘Marry Me,’ ‘Ticket to Paradise,’ and ‘The Lost City’ an anomaly? HOW did this movie only make back half its budget?? And, this week we play the most infuriating game of Rotten Tomatoes Price Is Right yet. It’s a REAL good time.

Aliens (1986)
This week, Caroline & Carson welcome special guest Madison Tayt onto the pod, to discuss James Cameron’s ‘Aliens.’ Is this the greatest genre shift known to man? It’s a REAL GOOD TIME!

Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
This week, HHYNS, covers Sidney Lumet’s 1975 crime drama, ‘Dog Day Afternoon.’ Pacino is turning in an INCREDIBLE performance, just 3 years post ‘The Godfather.’ We truly admire how wide ranging the genres in this thing are and how well balanced they are. Could this movie be made today? Probably not. And it is MADDENING. Also, fuck Ronald Reagan.

We compare this flick, ‘Alien,’ and ‘The Last Duel.’ A lot of the episode is dedicated to fawning over Ridley Scott and the cinematographer for ‘Thelma & Louise,’ Adrian Biddle. But, most importantly, we have a REAL good time.

Memories of Murder (2003)
This week, Caroline & Carson discuss Bong Joon-ho’s 2003 film, ‘Memories of Murder.’ Mel Brooks style satire comes up for the second week in a row! Ranging from ‘Snowpiercer’ to ‘Parasite, we debate where this lands in Bong’s filmography. We fawn over his visual stylings, particularly the use of color in this specific film. Most importantly, we are recording together for the first time in a MINUTE and it is a REAL GOOD TIME.
