Cory Talks Podcast

By Cory O'Connor
Hi, I’m Cory O’Connor from Geelong, Australia. My podcast, Cory Talks features news on what’s happening in the world around us. My opinions feature, but first and foremost is to present factual information for my listeners because facts in journalism seems to be endangered at the moment.

I’m not a journalist, but I know enough to see though most of the stuff that is put forth as news in the 21st century.

Apart from being a podcaster, I love listening to podcasts, sci-fi, social issues, media, TV and movies.

It's Personal 0317
On this edition of the podcast, Cory Talks: It’s Personal. This is quite a different podcast episode. For a while the previous special, Season 3, Episode 16 was likely the last of this season. Just wasn’t sure whether I should release this. But here goes anyway. Apart from the level of personal information that I kind of reveal, there is news about season 4 of Cory Talks. ******************************** If you feel the need for help, or just need a qualified person to speak with, there are a number of services in Australia that can assist. Aussieland 0316
On this edition of the podcast, Cory Talks Aussieland Stars from Hollywood have been moving to Australia to escape COVID-19. Most are here for work – which is fine, but what about those who are trying to dodge the pandemic as much as they can, and meantime thousands of Australian citizens have been struggling for many months to just get a flight home from where they are currently. It's not just the amount of flights, but also the exorbitant price of flights. At the height of the pandemic in 2020, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison made a vow to get all Aussies who wanted to come home, back by Christmas. I guess in the deflecting detail PM’s defence, he didn’t say which Christmas. While no direct fault of their own, will these celebrities and their film projects suffer in Australia, because Australian audiences may see the stars as queue jumpers? I reference this story from BBC News which was published on 3 April 2021. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-55851074 Don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already and turn notifications on so you can be alerted when there’s new episodes out. Cryptocurrency 0315
On this edition of Cory Talks… Cryptocurrency For quite some time I’ve wondered about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. So I decided to do some research and I was amazed by a number of facts, including that there were more cryptocurrencies in the world than there are traditional currencies. Take a trip into the past and the beginning on cryptocurrency, what is it, what can you use it for, where’s it going and is it safe? Scams 0314
On this edition of Cory Talks… Scams Recently I’ve been followed by someone on Twitter who comes from The Gambia in Africa. I believe his reason for following me was to scam me out of money. If this is true, then I could see he was playing the long game, as he started following me more than a month ago and it’s only just prior to recording this special edition of the podcast that the hand came out for money. Since recording this episode, now two others had started following me, all from The Gambia. I’m guessing since the first attempt to scam me didn’t work, they’re thinking try, try again! Daylight Savings Time 0313
On this edition of Cory Talks… Daylight Savings What is it, why do we have it? It surprised me that there were only a few territories around the world that have never used daylight savings and equally as surprising for me, a great number that have experienced Daylight Savings Time and said, no thanks – I’ll be fine. Personally I don’t blame them. I need to say over and over and over again, “spring forward, fall back” as a way of remembering which way to turn the clocks when Daylight Savings Time comes, and goes just as it did early this morning in many parts of Australia. Virus-Free Victoria 0311
On this edition of Cory Talks… The state of Victoria has been declared virus free. And with that wonderful news comes sweeping changes to COVID-19 restrictions in the garden state. Hear from Victoria’s Chief Health Officer, Professor Brett Sutton on the great work all Victorian’s have achieved. The Chamber of Commerce thinks the restrictions being lifted from tonight (Friday 26 March 2021, 6:00pm) do not go far enough. Hopefully more Victorian’s can be vaccinated with the approval of 800,000 doses of locally produced AstraZeneca vaccine. My worry is (apart from when will actually get the jab), is the increased talk of opening up Australia’s borders and the potential risk of another lcokdown. Cory Talks S03 E10 - Mon 22 Mar 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… After last Monday’s March4Justice rallies across Australia, the Prime Minister… Scott Morrison made a tactical error. He opened his fat entitled mouth and effective said women in Australia should be thankful that they can protest in this country without being shot. #AusGovFail Last week Australian Home Affairs Minister, Peter Dutton called the deportation of New Zealanders as, taking out the trash. This week it’s about the Australian government sending a 15 year old back to New Zealand alone, a place he barely knows. Australia is an equal opportunity hater. It doesn’t matter whether you’re Australian or from another country. #AusGovFail The Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine rollout is resuming in Europe after no proof could be found that the COVID-19 vaccine causes blood clots. Great news for Australian’s, if only the Federal government could pull its finger out and get the jab for Australian’s. The second phase of the immunisation programme began today (Monday 22 March 2021) with an abysmal number of Australian’s vaccinated as part of the first phase which began just over a month ago. #AusGovFail Maybe it should be called QANTAS Aid, the amount of money the Federal government keeps throwing at the national airline. #AusGovFail Canada’s Conservative Party is moving on a platform that the climate crisis does not exist. Just what this world needs, more old white men (not always old, white or men), sticking their selfish heads in the sand. Some good news this week, the regional television network here in Australia, WIN has decided to dump the waste of airtime known as Sky After Dark on Rupert Murdoch’s Sky News Australia. Personal security when we’re out and about is something we should all be looking in to. After the horrific kidnapping and murder of a British woman walking home recently, social media has been awash with tips and tricks on your smartphone helping you stay safe and trackable in an emergency. Read the tips here from the BBC News Online webpage on this story: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-56373292 ABC Radio Melbourne journalist and host, Virginia Trioli has written an interesting opinion piece on ABC News Australia online, comparing the differences between struggling Australian’s and the man who is thankful of the pandemic for the amount of money he’s made. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-20/what-does-centrelink-recipient-have-common-gerry-harvey/13257024 Alarming details of young terrorist in Melbourne. Thankfully Victoria Police have made arrests and there is no known current threat. JobKeeper to go in Australia in a little over a week’s time. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it was time to go. I agree whole heartedly… except I agree that it’s time for him to go. #AusGovFail *** IMPORTANT NOTICE *** This is the final episode of season three of the podcast, but also the final episode for the moment. I’m looking at doing some special episodes on a specific topic in the coming months. Whether the Cory Talks podcast returns in regular weekly episodes and what format that would take, is still being considered. The best thing to do is to stay subscribed on your podcast platform of choice and ensure you have the website bookmarked – cory.media/corytalks Thank you so much for listening to the last three seasons and a particularly big thanks to those who have listened to the podcast on YouTube. I did some counting mid last week and was blown away by the fact since launching the podcast in May 2020, I’ve had a little over 300 plays of Cory Talks on YouTube. I certainly did not expect that. Cory Talks S03 E09 - Mon 15 Mar 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… I’m truly sorry if the stories of rape allegations in the Australian political sphere at the moment is disturbing, but we are not going to be able to fix the problem if we sweep it under the carpet. Canberra rape claimant Brittany Higgins has a win in court of defamatory comments by Defence Minister Senator Linda Reynolds. The money will go to help survivors of rape and abuse in the Canberra area. Today, Monday 15 March 2021 is the day of #March4Justice. Time for you, me and government to listen! The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia is a national embarrassment. Surely not all adult Australian’s who wish to be vaccinated, will be by October as the Morrison government claims. European Countries stop the use of the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine temporarily while they investigate if there is a link to the vaccine and blood clots. Australia plans to keep using this vaccine. The AstraZeneca jab is the one most Australian’s will receive. Western Australian’s went to polls on Saturday. Was there really a doubt of who would win. The people have spoken in the west. Let’s hope Canberra is listening with increasing talk of an early federal election before 2022. Australia’s Mr Potato Head, Peter Dutton in a Trans Tasman stoush. Aren’t we lucky Home Affairs Minister Dutton isn’t Prime Minister… well not yet anyway. Former Liberal Party Australia government Foreign Minister Julie Bishop confirms there’s a boys club in Canberra. That Oprah interview with Harry and Meagan. Even the Queen has weighed in on the matter. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews had a nasty fall last week. He cracked some ribs and did some damage to his vertebrae. A CEO of a law firm loses her job after been kept in the dark about the firm taking on the case of alleged rapist, Commonwealth Attorney General, Christian Porter. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in his own words… no wonder Australian women are so angry. I’m angry too! Federal Government coughs up funds to finance cheap flights at targeted locations around Australia. With the vaccination of Australian’s way behind, is this really the best time to be flying interstate for a holiday? And if the Morrison wants things back to normal, and people back at work – how can they do their job and take a break at the same time? Sounds like desperation from the government. Cory Talks S03 E08 - Mon 8 Mar 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… It’s a sh*t show in Canberra at the moment. You’d be hard pressed to find an adult Australian who is not aware of the truly disturbing rape allegations in the nation’s capital and a claim of a historical rape involving a very senior Australian government minister and Senator. The Federal Government has a completely different stance on how to proceed (quite simply, closing the case). But Australian’s are angry and upset… and rightly so. I’ll present a timeline of events as they’ve happened since the last podcast. There will be #March4Justice protest rallies around the country including at Parliament House Canberra on Monday 15th March at noon. Two Royal Commissions came to an end this past week. A federal one into the Aged Care sector. One state RC into the Mental Health system in Victoria. Making the announcements, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews. Spot the difference between these leaders. One admitted fault, accepted recommendations and promised change. The other flew into defensive mode. Australian Senator calls a former staffer a lying cow after making rape allegations. Triple earthquake off New Zealand and resulting tsunami alert. Blowout in the cost of Australia’s digital future, the National Broadband Network. It could have cost a whole lot less if politics was not involved. Western Australia joins Victoria in launching a Royal Commission into Crown Resorts and Casino after a damning report in New South Wales banned Crown from opening a casino in that state. Australian music industry legend and founder of Mushroom Records, Michael Gudinski has passed away. The Queen’s video chat to Australia. Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2021 is given the thumbs up despite operating in a COVID safe environment with social distancing. Trump 2024… please tell me it’s not true!!! Kayleigh McEnany, the former White House Press Secretary joins Fox News to the amazement of no one. Dolly Parton in fine voice as she prepared to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Cory Talks S03 E07 - Mon 1 Mar 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… That circuit breaker COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria recently has done the trick it seems, with further restrictions being lifted over the past weekend. Meanwhile Queensland has opened up its metaphorical arms to Greater Melbourne, lifting travel restrictions. I will not be reporting on the now growing list of rape allegations out of Australia’s capital. I’ve stated my reasons on my “Use Your Words” blog and also a rather lengthy response in the opening of this episode. You can find the blog post at https://cory.media/2021/02/23/capital-crime/ Australian government COVID-19 conspiracy theorist Craig Kelly has quit his party, almost guaranteeing that he’ll be even more of a nuisance to the Liberal Party than before. The JobSeeker unemployment benefits base rate will go up $25 a week from next month. But the $75 a week coronavirus supplement will disappear. Not exactly a good time to be persecuted by the Morrison government. But dividing the nation is what they do best. Evil old business tyrant (no not Rupert Murdoch this time), Gerry Harvey who controls the Harvey Norman department stores in Australia and New Zealand has decided NOT to give back the $22 million it accepted from the Federal Government in the form of JobKeeper to keep staff on during the pandemic. This is despite make huge profits in 2021. #BoycottHarveyNorman Facebook refriended Australia after the Morrison government which was not going to cave on their proposed media bargaining legislation. Well… they caved slightly and came to an agreement with Facebook. However the social media behemoth reserves the right to ban news being served up on its platform in Australia in the future. My opinion – neither side is looking out for Australia or journalism. When the going gets tough, Republican nitwit Ted Cruz gets going… to Cancun. I don’t think America can survive yet another selfish power hungry cretin in politics. Speaking of selfish power hungry cretins, Trump’s tax returns have finally been released. Hopefully in time to lock up the Orange Idiot. Speaking or right wing troublemakers, Australia has a real problem with extremism. If only we didn’t have a extreme right federal government, the country might be able to tackle the problem. UK court tells Uber it has employees, not contract workers. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews threatens to tear up Crown Casino’s license to operate in the state if the recently called Royal Commission into the gambling industry in Victoria deems it necessary. Oil refinery to pivot into the future… better late than never. Tech news on Twitter and Bitcoin. And whatever you do, don’t call him Mr Potato Head. Cory Talks S03 E06 - Mon 22 Feb 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… Rape allegations by two former Liberal Party staffers at Australian Parliament House levelled against one former male staffer. What did the Prime Minister Scott Morrison know and when did he know it? His words do not feel believable and if you believe the screenshot of a text message, the Prime Ministers Office knew about one of the allegations for a greater length of time than it has admitted. The COVID-19 vaccine programme is finally rolling out in Australia. The Federal Government says all Aussies who wish to be vaccinated, should be by October. The snap five day lockdown in Victoria was just that – thankfully! This was due to concerns about the more virulent strain of the COVID-19 virus, the UK strain. Now the state is looking to further easing of coronavirus restrictions this week. Western Australian election in less than three weeks time and if you believe Newspoll, the Labor Party under Premier Mark McGowan looks to a massive win. My take on this whole Facebook banning news in Australia thing. I don’t think either of the two (or is that three) players have the upper hand. I think in the end it’s Australian’s who will pay some sort of price for this political point scoring exercise. New silly fad on TikTok. Parler back from the wilderness. For them it’s been a long month. But if you’re new to the unfiltered platform, you might find it hard to join. US President Joe Biden plans to get tough on guns. Good luck Joe when America has such an obsession with guns! (Hey, don’t shoot the messenger). Harry and Meagan are officially out of The Firm. I am in no way interested in Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West, so don’t bother expecting me to mention these media whores on the podcast. More meat for cats. Coke in paper bottles. Cory Talks S03 E05 - Mon 15 Feb 2021
On this edition of Cory Talks… Victoria enters a five-day lockdown to tackle an outbreak of the more virulent UK strain of COVID-19. Greek tennis player departs Australia for South Africa and tests positive for coronavirus upon arrival. Former US President is acquitted for the second time. The voting was ten votes short of convicting Trump for Incitement for Insurrection. Trump vows to continue his fight. Free National Broadband Network upgrades to select Australian locations. Will it actually help. Google launches its News Showcase platform in Australia to try and circumvent government proposal to make Google and Facebook pay for news content they feature. I mention Superbowl LV… don’t expect much more than that! A tennis player at the Australian Open just wanted to pee! Why was the umpire hesitant? Investigations into former Australian Sports Minister, Bridget McKenzie as she faces the Sports Rorts Inquiry. Home Affairs Minister, Peter Dutton is also being looked at for his interference in grants process. New Zealand rolls out the COVID-19 vaccine. So much for Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s claim that Australian’s would be one of the first nations in the world to get the jab. More marketing lies from the King of Promo. Cory Talks S03 E04
On this edition of Cory Talks… Today (Monday 8 February 2021) was supposed to mark the date that 75% of the Victorian workforce could return to the office, but that was paused thanks to a coronavirus concern related to the UK variant. Anti-conversion law introduced in Victoria, and it’s about time. An Aussie doctor working in the Austrian Alps got the COVID-19 jab and has written a story for ABC News Australia on her friend who she loves dearly, but is an anti-vaxxer. After listening to this episode of the show, come back here and click on this link https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-04/vaccine-message-to-anti-vaxxers/13114344?utm_source=abc_news_web&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_content=mail&utm_campaign=abc_news_webto read Rebecca Schoepf’s opinion piece. Alexei Navalny is quite a headache for the Russian establishment. The US President and the technology impediment. Spotify to suggest mood music for you. How do you feel about that? Back from the dead, a social media platform that was apparently a hit here in Australia. I completely missed that! Cory Talks S03 E03
On this edition of Cory Talks... The last time I'm going to talk about Australia Day (Invasion Day) this year, I promise. Australian Open heating up for the February 8 start, and I'm talking about the exerted ranting of one American tennis player and his first world problem. Australian Chemists/Pharmacies able to sign up from today (Monday 1 February 2021) to become COVID-19 vaccination points. The European Union being heavy handed on limiting to quantity of inoculations to non-EU countries. It may have an impact on Australia's expected vaccine supplies. GameStop... something that I'd never heard of before has been in the news this past week and Wall Street was not amused. The tax office in Australia is investigating the rorting of the federal government's JobKeeper programme. Intimate contact hotel quarantine breach in New Zealand. NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was not happy that Australia abruptly halted the Trans Tasman Travel Bubble. New Aussie Trade Minister given the cold shoulder by China. @MarieWalsh18 on Twitter brought some memes to my attention last week in relation to what the Morrison Government has been up to. It may make you as mad as I was. Then again, maybe not if you're so easily taken my Murdoch media propaganda. And paying with your face! Cory Talks S03 E02
On this edition of Cory Talks... America has another chance at regaining their democracy after the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as President and Vice President of the United States on January 20. The Trump Impeachment (Part Two) is expected to start on February 8. The Australian Open tennis Grand Slam also starts in February and it's had controversy of its own with some professional players acting like spoilt children. Once players girlfriend would make my douche of the week award... if I had such an award to bestow. Australia Day is tomorrow (Tuesday 26th January), it's divided many Australian's for a number of years. Some of Australia's first nations people, see the day as Invasion Day. A time for sorrow and not celebration. A compromise must be sought. One thing I wouldn't compromise on is that tomorrow, former tennis great Margaret Court is expected to be given an Australia Day Honours award. She was a great Australian sportsperson and hero to this country in her time. But now she is a horrid embarrassment to Australian society. Google is still threatening to pull out of the Australian Search Engine market. A Twitter spat for me and a tinfoil hat wearing anti-vaxxer this past week. New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has been known as "unlucky in love", "koala killer" and now government document shredder. But she need not fear, there's not going to be any consequences. ALL COOL AND NORMAL! American Preachers who supported Trump in his "stolen election" falsehoods expose themselves and the fact there's not a lot of difference between business, politics and religion. Cory Talks S03 E01
On this edition of Cory Talks... Hello there everyone! It's been a while, almost two months in fact since the last edition of the show and I'm picking things up with days before the Inauguration in the US of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. It's been a rocky road to January 20, but I don't need to tell American's about that, they've been living it and my thoughts are with all the decent people who have not been taken in by the lies and deflection of the Trump administration. One episode one of season three, I'll look at some of the stuff that's happened in the past 50 plus days. Not only the American election, but also some of the stuff that's been happening in Australia. But let's face it, America has continued to be the focus of the world's attention. It's strange, because out-going President Donald Trump usually likes being the centre of attention. Like nothing's happened the Australian Open tennis is coming to Melbourne. Yes, despite a pandemic, it seems the tennis must play on. At least four people who've flown into Australia for the grand slam have tested positive for COVID-19. Thankfully the quarantine borders for the tennis are holding. Hasn't stopped some players from trying to leave their hotel rooms though. Is it just me, or has Australia's COVIDsafe coronavirus tracing app has gone missing? The sole surviving Golden Girl, Betty White celebrated her 99th birthday on Sunday. It's imperative Betty gets the COVID-19 jab. She absolutely has to make it to her 100th... and then keep going (only if she wants to of course). Should the Australian government really be getting into the divorce prevention arena? According to a report from the tatty News Corp toilet paper propaganda sheet, the government is considering it. Aussie supermarket giant Woolworths will stop accepting cash at select stores from January 25. A Cory Talks topic of discussion that I'd like to hear from you on. Drop me a line via the website. On this edition of Cory Talks... It's the 2020 series finale episode. And it's the longest podcast I've done so far coming in at 67 minutes. Please don't miss this one and certainly do not feel you have to listen to it all at once. There's breaks after around each 20 minutes. While Victoria continues on its path to COVID Normal, not so good news out of South Australia which initiated a brief lockdown this past week. It ended earlier than expected because a man lied to contract tracers about his association with a pizza shop. Still health officials were working hard to bring this outbreak to a swift conclusion. Meantime the inquiry into contract tracing in Victoria has seen disappointment levelled at the Department of Health and Human Services over their handling of contact tracing. Australian Defence Force chief Angus Campbell held a media briefing on Thursday over the damning report into Australian Special Forces members abhorrent actions in Afghanistan. *WARNING* the audio contained in this edition of the podcast will be confronting to some. The media diversity Senate Inquiry is going to happen looking into Rupert Murdoch's influence on the Australian media scene, as the attacks on its two poster children, former Prime Minister's Kevin Rudd and Malcolm Turnbull intensifies. A Melbourne based podcaster claims he "tested the system" by getting someone to forge fake digital signatures for the petition. A $1.2 billion AUD victory for those wrongly assessed by the government as owing money to the nation. Freedom of Information (FoI) documents cast light onto Prime Minister Scott Morrison's mirky past when at Tourism Australia and Tourism New Zealand. Rabid celeb chef Pete Evans gets rebuked for a social media post. A big shout out to a really nice and generous person. Prime Minister Scott Morrison claims he's assisting Joe Biden in how to deal with COVID-19. Joe should talk to Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews instead. Cory Talks S02 E18
On this edition of Cory Talks... Multiple media outlets early Sunday morning Australian Time projected Joe Biden to be President-Elect of the United States after securing at least 273 electoral college votes, three more than required to assume the Presidency. President Trump has been doing as much as he could to disrupt the counting and diminish the awesome democratic right American's have. But not all agree with that assessment as you'll hear in this episode. Joe Biden spoke of hope on Saturday. This was around twelve hours before he was projected to be the next President. As of Saturday, Victoria had recorded eight straight days of double doughnuts - that's eight consecutive days of zero new cases of COVID-19 and zero deaths in the garden state. The Inquiry into the bungled hotel quarantine system in Victoria is being finalised. There are 69 recommendations and they will be delivered to the Governor General of Victoria. We await the public release. Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's call for a Royal Commission to look into the control Rupert Murdoch's News Corp has over the Australian media landscape recorded a record number of petition signatures from Australian's. The petition will be submitted shortly to the Australian Parliament. New Zealand to open up to Melbourne. Queensland hopefully to open up to Victoria by Christmas. Clive Palmer has his legal challenge to Western Australia's lockdown dismissed. Now the fatuous self-obsessed tool has to pay WA's legal fees! Peta Credlin's Sky News Australia documentary that targeted Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews falls flat on facts... and interest. The death of an Australian swimming great. On this edition of Cory Talks... On this special episode, the focus is on the American election. What a result... well maybe... to be honest I don't know because at the time of typing this, votes were still being counted. There you go, honesty OF politics, not honesty IN politics. At the time of typing this, Joe Biden was in front in the Electoral College votes, 203 to 103. While actual votes for the Republicans and Trump are slightly ahead (at 12:47pm AEDT). Disturbing news on the COVID-19 figures in the United Kingdom. Five doughnut day for Victoria with five consecutive days of zero new cases of coronavirus and no deaths. Despite a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and protests at the capital's Shire of Remembrance, Victoria should still expect some further restrictions removed from the states lockdown. Time for the Chief of Australia Post to step down after a Senate Estimates inquiry. Victorian Hotel Quarantine guard speaks out. The final Presidential Debate for 2020 was not so much about fireworks from the mouth of Trump. Quite astonishing that the Pres pretty much kept his cool. The Foxtel rort. Concerns over New Zealand tourists who are entering Australia as part of the Trans-Tasman Travel Bubble. They're not all in the states or territories they're supposed to be in. On this edition of Cory Talks... The New Zealand election and a stunning result for Jacinda Ardern's Labour Party with a mandate to lead the country for the next three years. It's the first election win in 25 years where a single party has received enough votes to lead without the support of another party. Also election for Labor in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory). The Labor party has been in power in the nations capital for almost two decades. The Victorian Liberal Party have a plan for COVID-19... finally. But is it too late with the states positive cases continuing to fall? The US Town Hall Presidential Debates. The President on NBC and Biden on ABC. We all know how much ratings are important to the Orange Idiot, so he's probably not going to like that more people watched the Democrat nominee. What does copper and COVID-19 have to do with each other? The answer might surprise. Rupert Murdoch's attack drone, Peta Credlin tries standover tactics on the Victorian Premier... which fail, and she was not happy. Police looking into someone who's caused a COVID-19 panic in two regional Victorian locations. And a nice political story to end with. Cory Talks S02 E11
On this edition of Cory Talks... With just a few weeks to the Queensland election as donations scandal has hit that states opposition party leader, Deb Frecklington. I should create a new segment called, stupid sh*t the US President says because this week through either drugs or his natural, perhaps unnatural lack of sense has made him say lots of kooky stuff. To borrow a saying from the Orange Idiot, "you're not going to believe it". New Zealanders prepare for their General election this weekend. No huge gaffes to report there thankfully. Anger that some university course costs to go up. One independent pollie fears it will put higher education out of the reach of many. Former Abbott Government attack dog, Peta Credlin drops a truth bomb. How politics almost makes telling bald faced lies palatable. The hoped for major easing of lockdown restrictions in Victoria from Monday seems destine to disappoint like an episode of Channel 10's The Bachelorette. The flattening of the COVID-19 curve has not progressed as well as expected, while some still think getting back to normal right now is a good idea. Seems like there might be a correlation between the two. New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has confessed at an inquiry of being in a relationship with a fellow MP she sacked for corruption. But because she's a Liberal Premier, the media goes easy on her saying it's a personal matter. The hypocrites ignore that she'd lied. Apple launches yet another series of expensive iPhone's... yes, I'll probably buy one. Pre-ordering starts at the weird time of 11pm this Friday (AEDT). Plus how to get around a hacked sex toy. On this edition of Cory Talks... Following the Australian Federal Government's 2020 Hope, payer and jobs budget, there's anger at the people it leaves out. Most notably half of the population. Also New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian is pretty angry herself. NSW businesses flouting COVID-19 rules has caught her eye. The Vice Presidential Debate this week between VP Mike Pence and nominee Kamala Harris was not as fiery as the first Presidential Debate... thank goodness. Seems like there's not going to be a second debate between Trump and Biden because the orange idiot is having a hissy fit over not being allowed to do it in person, on account of him being infected... with COVID-19 too. Never a dull moment in Victorian politics. Premier Daniel Andrews still copping it from the state opposition, but more so this week from the Murdoch press and fellow biased media outlets. There is some smoke there, but is there a legitimate fire the Andrews Government needs to attend to? Nearly 100 year old ice cream treat to get a new name. Australia in the dirty game of making weapons for war. Former US Mayor, Pete Buttigieg turns the tables on Fox News hosts. Immediate tax cuts, but you have to make at least $45,000 a year. A budget for people who already have money is the way it seems to me. Kiwi's not in favour of lowering the voting age with just over a week until the New Zealand general election. On this edition of Cory Talks... The virus that US President Donald J Trump called a hoax, then would magically disappear in April, the same virus he played down despite knowing how dangerous it was... yes that virus, COVID-19. The President and First Lady now have this hoax liberal media coronavirus. Oh and the First Lady is now the Grinch who stole Christmas! The Australian Federal Budget is released this coming week. High deficit and expected tax cuts for those who can afford to be paying tax... what could possibly go wrong?!?!? Victorian opposition minister Tim Smith, otherwise known as Dim Tim is still on his crusade to bring down state Premier Daniel Andrews and the Labor government, at all costs. Even risking the health and wellbeing of Victorians. The first Presidential Debate for 2020 was described by CNN reporter as a sh*t show. While many have called for it to be the first and only US Presidential Debate this cycle, there's going to be at least one or maybe two more. Again... what could possibly go wrong?!?!? Australian government ministers are putting more public money at risk by approving funding for projects with a lack of oversight. I'm not talking about Rupert Murdoch and his dodgey News Corp, Fox News, Sky News propaganda machines, so that should be a relief. I know it is for me. A Royal Commission investigation into the failings of the Aged Care sector in Australia, a sad indictment of incompetence and putting money over the aged. That's just my assessment. The final report will be less damning. Let's see if the Australian government acts on the recommendations from the RC. Australia lost a treasure this week. RIP Helen Reddy. Cory Talks S02 E07
On this edition of Cory Talks... The rate of COVID-19 case in Victoria continues to drop which is very encouraging. While the state is not out of the woods yet, it looks like there could be some major changes to the lockdown laws in the coming weeks if we all keep getting tested and do the right thing by ourselves and other. Talk of a travel bubble between New Zealand and Australia is back on the agenda. You can still download the TikTok app in America... at least for the time being. How to keep occupied and help family and friends during a pandemic. It's time to get creative. Donald Trump's America... he really takes that title seriously. I guess it could be his if he just got rid of the votes. YES! He actually said that. On this edition of Cory Talks... BREAKING: Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos resigned on the weekend after Premier Daniel Andrews' testimony at the inquiry into the handling of hotel quarantine in the state. If you're an Aussie Rules footballer or family member, should that entitle you to special treatment during COVID-19 times? A robodebt for one Centrelink Disability Support Pensioner that can never be paid. ABC News Online readers help out Melbourne man Raiyan Chowdhury. It's my good news story for this episode. National Broadband Network about face from the Federal Government. Aussie cricketer and commentator Dean Jones dies of a cardiac arrest in India. Cory Talks S02 E05
On this edition of Cory Talks... The COVID-19 positive cases are falling in Victoria, which means further easing of lockdown restrictions could be lifted soon. The news out of the US is not so rosy on the death toll and reports show Americans are angry... with the President. Lawyer X Niccola Gobbo, the Police informant secretly returned to Australia to give evidence in the Royal Commission which is damning against her and Victoria Police. Deputy Premier from New South Wales, John Barilaro takes a break after imploding and threatening to break apart the Liberal/National coalition in his state. I don't think you have to be a Numerologist to believe in numbers, but one Trump supporter is adamant that COVID-19 is all a hoax. And could British actor and producer Tom Hardy, who has been in films such as Black Hawk Down, The Revenant, RockNRolla and Star Trek Nemesis, be donning the tailored suit to star as the next James Bond 007? Cory Talks S02 E04
On this episode, an economics warning for Australia has been issued. Yes, I know, just what we need right now in the midst of a pandemic. Victoria Police have shown poor judgement and actions during an horrific arrest in Melbourne. Politics in Queensland gets personal with the Premier and Chief Health Officer both being targeted by death threats. Western Australia gets a mention this week, and it's not positive. New South Wales government in trouble with fighting from within their coalition arrangement with the Nationals. #SuperBarilaroBruz has been causing headaches. He's taking four weeks off for a mental health break. It seems the Chinese government have not only been spying on Australia but also New Zealand... even Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's parents! The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting... well you know where this goes. Jeff Thiomas on Vero True Social and I have another interaction on the social platform over Donald Trump. Speaking of American politics, I have a podcast recommendation for Wondery's series, American Elections: Wicked Game. Hosted by Lindsay Graham (the good one). If you want to hear a series about every single American election, this is the show for you.

Cory Talks S02 E03
This is a big episode of Cory Talks. Lots to discuss aboutCOVID-19, particularly in my home state of Victoria where thankfully things are improving after suffering through the second wave of the virus. The Prime Minister demands a woman is allowed to her father's funeral, the Queensland Premier accuses the PM of bullying. Respected former Victorian Broadcaster, Jon Faine writes a piece in the newspaper that asks for people to do the right thing and stop blaming the Premier for everything. Trump caught out in a lie... yes I know, another one. But then so is his Press Secretary. I've been a bad boy and this could be the last podcast. The Police are after me... well at least that's what the scammers wanted me to believe. Our very own cold war. Australia and China at odds over journalists and freedom. I call for the Chief Executive Officer of Australia Post to resign. I haven't written to her, but I'm sure she listens to the podcast ;-) Plus a podcast for scares and imagination from Hawk and Cleaver's The Other Stories - www.hawkandcleaver.com

On episode 2 of the show, more on Trump with less than two months until one of America's most important elections. The Australian Government's battle with Google and Facebook over news source revenue. Another week, another seven days of attacks on the Andrews government in Victoria as the number of new cases continue to fall, but #covidiots protesting their lack of freedom at the expense of everyone's health. A regional Victorian woman thought it okay to organise a protest for this weekend, and wondered why she fell foul of the law. Australia's ex-PM (thankfully), the onion eater Tony Abbott scores UK gov job. A quake rumbles New Zealand. Heads up of a YouTube doco special from friend of the show, Ellie D. It's called the Fan Files and I'm on it!!! Cory Talks S02 E01
Welcome to the second season of the Cory Talks podcast. On this first episode of a new season, more on COVID-19 because it just won't go away... but I guess some just don't take it seriously enough. The Victorian Government wants to extend the State of Emergency for twelve months but has seen resistance. Meanwhile the Republican National Convention happened this week in the lead up to the Federal Election in the US this November. And what a show that was... entertaining and frightening. Are we in trouble with an asteroid, NASA says relax. A podcast recommendation for The Rise of King Asilas. A fantastic audio drama which will release its next season a little later in the year. www.theriseofkingasilas.com for more information. Cory Talks S01 E020
This is the season one finale episode. In it I talk more about the thing that just won't go away... yes, you know what I'm talking about. How man's best friend may be lending a hand in the fight against COVID-19. The idiot brigade have been out and about this past week, Sky News falling all over themselves to get an exclusive news story out, only for it to be found untrue. I've made a rather expensive purchase this week and good friend of the show, Ellie D consoles me in that I made the right decision :-) Speaking of decisions, will I continue my Twitter presence after they suspended me for 12 hours? A podcast recommendation for a brand new Australian true crime show - The Evil Gingerbread Man. You don't want to miss this podcast. Last episode Johnno told me about some of the guests that would be appearing on his Instagram Live Stream in the coming weeks and months, including Nicholas Brendon from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. We both really enjoyed the series and have a bit of a 'fan boi' chat about the show :-) Also coming up in this episode, a podcast recommendation from two guys who I loved watching on TV, two decades ago! Really!!! Has it been that long?!?!? Two more episodes in season one of The Cory Talks Podcast.
