EFFECTS OF MENTAL ILLNESS IN RELATIONSHIPS

EFFECTS OF MENTAL ILLNESS IN RELATIONSHIPS

GUESS WHO'S BACK, BACK AGAIN!? We are! Swear we didn't fall off the face of the Earth. 🌎 Nearly half of adults experience a mental illness at least once in their lifetime. Research and practical experiences tell us that mental illness can cause a person to have decreased quality of life, decreased productivity and employment, and even impaired physical health. A mental illness—including post-traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and alcoholism—can also affect a person’s relationships. Honestly, there’s probably no relationship more affected by mental illness than the intimate relationship between partners. The good news is that it’s possible to be in a healthy, loving, and long-term relationship with someone who has a mental illness. If this is relevant to you, be aware of the unique challenges you and your partner may face, and utilize resources and strategies that will help you grow and nurture your relationship. Toxic Relationships vs Mental Health

MENTAL HEALTH & RELATIONSHIPS

MENTAL HEALTH & RELATIONSHIPS

The Mental Health Foundation defines relationships as ‘the way in which two or more people are connected, or the state of being connected’. Relationships include the intimate relationships we have with our partners, those we form with our parents, siblings and grandparents, and those we form socially with our friends, work colleagues, teachers, healthcare professionals and community.

Relationships are one of the most important aspects of our lives, yet we can often forget just how crucial our connections with other people are for our physical and mental health. People who are more socially connected to family, friends, or their community are happier, physically healthier, and live longer - with fewer mental health problems than people who are less well connected. It’s not just the number of friends you have, and it’s not whether or not you’re in a committed relationship, but it’s the quality of your close relationships that matters. As a society and as individuals, we have to prioritize building and maintaining good relationships and tackling the barriers to forming them. Extensive evidence shows Having close, positive relationships can give us a purpose and sense of belonging.

"HAPPY" NEW YEAR!

"HAPPY" NEW YEAR!

THE NEW YEAR IS QUICKLY APPROACHING (aka tomorrow) AND MANY OF YOU MAY NOT BE INCLINED TO MAKE RESOLUTIONS FOR 2022, BUT SOME OF YOU MIGHT. Regardless, we are breaking down what it takes to be truly "happy" with life based of a book that Sam has been reading over the last week. We dive into positive psychology, the virtues of happiness and more .. so as always, grab your drink & LET'S GET INTO IT ..

BOOK DISCUSSED: HAPPY (Simple Steps to Get the Most Out of Life) by Ian K. Smith

TO TAKE THE SATISFACTION WITH LIFE - "HAPPINESS TEST" -- CLICK THE LINK BELOW: https://fetzer.org/sites/default/files/images/stories/pdf/selfmeasures/SATISFACTION-SatisfactionWithLife.pdf

“I believe happiness dissolves into 3 different ideas, each of which is separately buildable and measurable. The first is the Pleasant life which is having as much positive emotion and as little negative emotion as possible. The second is the engaged life – or being completely absorbed by the challenges you face at work, love, play, etc, and the third is the meaningful life – as in knowing what your highest strengths are and using them to belong to and serve something that is bigger than you are.”

GABBY PETITO: OUR THOUGHTS

GABBY PETITO: OUR THOUGHTS

Our hearts are saddened by the recent news in the Gabby Petito case. We know that this case has made National News and you can't go on social media without seeing or hearing about it, however, we wanted to give our thoughts on what we've learned. Sam will be solo this episode and we will reunite next week for our "normal topics"  .. but for the 2 people in America who are unfamiliar with this case, Gabrielle Petito is a 22-year-old American woman from Suffolk County, New York, who was reported missing on September 11, 2021, while traveling across the United States with her fiancé. Her family lost contact with her around August 25th when she was in or near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Yesterday, 9/19/21, The FBI found remains in Wyoming that are consistent with her description. We are so hurt for her family and friends that were so desperately wanting to bring her home 💔🕊

To those who knew her personally, she was full of life and had a passion for traveling. She documented this on her Instagram,
@gabspetito — our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones. Her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, still remains “missing”
